When deciding on a place to live, there must be a bar within stumbling distance. That's a requirement.
Having just moved to the little nugget of Columbus nestled in between Grandview, Marble Cliff, and Upper Arlington (I affectionately refer to it as Upper Grandmarble Arlingtoncliffville), I was worried that there might not be a bar to stumble to. I thought I would have to go to one of Columbus' nearby neighborhoods to drink it up (which means getting a cab or a DD).
Thankfully, Cliffside Sports Bar exists.
It is the BEST (read: only) bar in the vicinity that you can walk to (or drive to...there is a parking lot). It's a pretty neat watering hole that is a mix of young Quarry-dwellers and old timers looking to have a good time.
When I first went to Cliffside Sports Bar, I was greeted by the bartender (I believe her to be the owner as well) named Susan (maybe Sally) who introduced herself and referred to me as a newbie. She also explained that on every Sunday evening (it was Sunday that I went) she cooks up some food and sets it out buffet-style for everyone to enjoy for free! I am sure the menu changes but it seemed like cassaroles and salads and pizza. Dude. Free homecooked food will make me stop by anytime!
There are pool tables, tons of TVs to catch some games (hence the Sports Bar in the title), and a laidback atmosphere. The beer prices are pretty cheap too from what I recall, and there is a decent selection.
Even if you aren't within walking distance, you should go to Cliffside Sports Bar. It's a quaint bar that feels a lot like a good old fashioned small town bar, since it's far away from the busy strips in Short North and Campus. I hope to see ya there!
