To me, Cody's is like a suped up version of a Texas Roadhouse (if you're from LI you'll know what I'm talking about.) But it is adorned with decorations like a Friday's or Applebees. When you first walk in you'll be blinded by all the tacky/gaudy knick knacks. They're pretty cool to look at though. If you're waiting for a table they actually give you playing cards and announce your number and suit. (I thought that was pretty unique.) Cody's has big leather booths and supersized tables to meet any party's needs.

They also shell out (pun intended) free peanuts for guests while waiting. Woo hoo!

They are famous for their sweet rolls and cinnamon butter spread as well as their bottomless salads. I have to say, both are really great. The rolls are warmy and fluffy and the salad is packed full of crisp and fresh ingredients (not just iceberg lettuce folks!). I ordered the 8 oz. sirloin medium with a baked sweet potato. It was excellent. Meat was very tender and spiced just enough. And guess how much it cost... $9.99! Talk about a deal.

Also I feel like I should note that up until 7pm it's Happy Hour. BOGO drinks of all sorts. Beer, wine, mixed drinks. You name it.

I visited Cody's for the first time while my parents were in town from Minnesota.  I usually read reviews prior to visiting any new restaurant, however this was a last minute decision.  Just after we were seated, I looked up Yelp on my cell while we waited.  I began to worry after reading so many negative reviews.
I must say I was pleasantly suprised.  The service was excellent.  The food was good.  I enjoyed the appetizer special for the evening of cajan chicken potato skins.  They had good flavor.  I would say they were not excellent as parts of the skins were burnt, however this is really a difficult preperation.
I ordered a steak for dinner.  The steak was cooked to perfection, taste great.

Overall I was very pleased with the experience.  My parents really enjoyed the time as well.

Adequate service, moderate food. The problem came with dessert. We ordered what was supposed to be a brownie sundae. The brownie was burnt to a crisp. So hard I couldn't even get a fork through it.  How does something like that even leave the kitchen?

The manager (Jason?)came over and laughed, somewhat apologized, and said he took "a couple bucks" off the dessert. And walked away laughing, as he went to talk to his friends at another table.

Do yourself a favor and go to a different location, or just skip Cody's all together.

I read previous Yelp reviews after I came in.  Frankly, I was worried what I would find.
We had a great experience.  The only thing I can figure is maybe Cody's is inconsistent in their performance (because most yelpers are spot on) but we found the service fast and friendly and the food excellent.  We got the steak chunks and they were excellent along with the sirloin steak which was also excellent.  The rolls are yeast rolls and if you don't like yeast rolls then you won't like these.  I, for one, love yeast rolls and Cody's rolls are superb along with their sweet butter.
We got fried pickles for our appetizer which were pretty good.
We went around just before 6pm and definitely would not hesitate to recommend Cody's

Burger with Provolone and grilled onions, $ 7.89-

I live within eyesight of this restaurant and I rarely eat here because there's always some problem.
I sit down at the bar and I hear the bartender complaining to some other customers about how his last customers "stiffed" him (no tip). I get a menu and order a burger: well done with Provolone cheese and grilled onions. I used to be a cook so I watch what goes on in the kitchens whenever I can. After what seemed like a long time
(20 to 25 minutes) I see their cook slide a burger up on the warming shelf, he then reaches into a steel pan and grabs a handful of fries. Someone carries this out to the bartender, who gives it to me. I taste a fry- mushy, stale, barely warm. I tell the bartender I would likes FRESH fries and he goes into the kitchen. I open my burger to add A-1 sauce and the cheese is stone-cold, not just un-melted, but actually COLD. The lettuce has slimey brown spots on it. I get the manager, tell her what's wrong and she takes my burger and "melts" the cheese. I don't know if she micro-waved it or what, but it was not gone very long. I pull the lettuce off and I still don't have FRESH fries.
The bartender seemed to not give a damn through the whole incident and when I asked for the corporate phone number the manager refused to give it to me. I called several other "Cody's" and found out this place is a privately owned franchise I left a message for the owners "Stan & Suzy" to call me.
    Stay tuned.

    Update:10/12/2011
I sent a link for this post to "Cody's" corp. website so they would know what's going on in this particular restaurant. This particular "Cody's" is a privately owned franchise. Today one of the owners ("Suzy") called me hiding behind a "private number" and accused me of trashing her restaurant on my website! Suzy!, if your restaurant is trashy it's you and your employees doing- not mine!
I take photos and give my honest opinion about restaurants I visit- if you don't like the "message" don't vent your anger at the "messenger".
"Suzy" offered me a free meal in exchange for taking down the photos and review- I told "Suzy" to keep her food, I'll keep my photos and my integrity.

A few hours later I received 2 hang-up prank phone calls from "private number". Also some moron calling themselves "GEORGE 1087" began spamming my Flicker page with the B.S. shown above, saying how much he loves "Cody's". The phone calls will be handled by the Police dept. and the FCC, the spamming on my Flicker page will be handled by Flickr/Yahoo and all of this will be brought to the attention of "Cody's" Corporate office and we'll see if they approve of their franchisees acting this way towards customers that dare to complain about bad food and rotten service!

Have only been once, so my review is tentative.  The Early Bird Sirloin is a great buy at $10,95, grilled with great flavor and perfectly cooked (how nice to get a 'medium'  order with a good amount of pink inside). I like that they have four choices for potatoes, and one can even substitute veggies and rice instead.  Appetizer onion rings were the best I've ever had anywhere!  Salad was passable, nothing more, but served nicely.  Rolls are a real downer, soft on the outisde and inside, totally lacking in taste and texture.  My happy hour Bloody Mary's were a bargain at $5.50 total for two large and satisfying glasses.  Apparently my friend's 24 oz. Porterhouse was outstanding (and huge) but a bit pricey at $25.  The $18 ribs were disappointing to my other friend, with a barbecue sauce that detracted from the taste of the meat. Atmosphere is a little dank and dark. Looks like a lot of regulars come and sit at the bar.  Service was average as the staff is overworked.  And yes, the throw-on-the-floor free peanuts are fun. But if you crave the taste of real, grilled steak without taking out a second mortgage, this chain deserves a try.

We went there last night for the 1st time.
I can't believe how crunchy the onion rings are and when you eat them the onion doesn't just slide out either.BTW if you're not a big eater only get the 1/2 order as these rings are huge.
Salad was better than it looked I think it was because of the garlic ranch dressing.
Steaks were delicious my wife had the T-Bone I had the Monster 24oz Porterhouse. We will be back for more.Dropped a star as they reverse cooked our steaks mine was rare instead of medium and the wife's was medium instead of rare.

What a great location, pretty good food too!!
But the service, give me a break.
    We keep going because:
    1) New Castle on tap 2) Happy Hour 3) sometimes bad service is funny
    4) New Castle on tap (worth mentioning twice) 5) kids eat free Mon and Tues
The folks there are trying really hard, they just dont seem to get it...accidentally throwing away your order ticket, not bringing your New Castle until 20 mins after you sit down, talking to friends at the next table and eating their food, etc.....
Now I admit we've had good service there, but the waitstaff appears to have high turnover. We'll keep going (did I mention they have New Castle?) because they are close to the house and we like throwing peanut shells on the floor
