Cornerstone Cafe

Patchogue Pub Crawl stop #3

Tonight was my earliest visit to the Cornerstone, to whom I would suggest to drop the "Cafe" from its name if it wasn't so damn funny.  There's nothing cafe'y about Patchogue's friendliest dive bar.  The clientele is hit or miss, if you see a fat guy at the bar who looks like a biker who'd been in 'nam, and you want to amuse yourself, put Glen Campbell's "Wichita Lineman" on the jukebox, and then strike up a conversation about the Japanese motorcycle you ride, how you can imagine how tough it was in 'Nam ("you can't possibly imagine what it was like in "NAM!") or anything else, and watch the guy go from zero to a hundred in about three sentences.  Don't worry, he's all bark; raspy, profanity-laden bark.

Elitia T. nailed the place in his review, but I can't get behind his star-rating as the beer and liquor selection is strictly dive.  Three stars because they're open until four, but be careful because that last stop for late night beers is never the smartest play.

Always something unexpected and different.  Owned and operated by dirty joke teller, Johnny Walker Red drinker and doo-wop fan "Johnny". . . always hires female bartenders, who are usually good for a buyback.  A weird bar for Long Island standards, as it has a large percentage of walk-ups and taxi-cab takers, and this is a strange town.  Cheap beer on taps.  Well drinks are overpriced and understocked.  Pool table, Pinball, sawdust bowling and internet jukebox.   Sometimes its dead, sometimes its wild.
