We got 2 pizzas through takeout. The pizza is good. But for a pizza place that is only blocks from a bunch of other pizza places, I cannot believe how rude one of their workers was both on the phone and when I went to get the pizza. The pizza isn't good enough for us to go back and deal with that attitude.
Review Source:I'm a fan of the stuffed pizza at D'Agostino's. Â I've never had anything else there so I can't really speak to it. Â It has a good atmosphere and is typical of what you'd expect in a pizza place. Â There are TV's and usually lots of families so it can be pretty loud. Â It doesn't have the best service but a lot of the staff are relatively young so it's not all that surprising. Â What I mean by that is that it can take a fair amount of time to get waited on, to get drink refills, and for someone to check in. Â
That said, I like their pizza. Â It's reasonably priced and well worth it. Â The crust is nice and flaky, the sauce is a good balance between chunky and blended, and the cheese and meats are good quality. Â Giordano's is still better in my opinion, but I think D'Agostino's is better than Pizano's when it comes to stuffed pizza. Â
D'Agostino's is well worth a visit.
Having lived in Chicago, my husband and I are big fans of D'Ago's. Â Well, at least D'Ago's in Wrigleyville and River West. Â Now living in Evanston, we were surprised and delighted to find that D'Ago's has an outpost in Glenview. Â Bingo!
Not so much. Â The pizza was AWFUL. Â The crust was like cardboard. Â Very hard cardboard. Â And there was very little sauce on the pie. Â Come on! Â The sweet sauce is the best part of a pizza from D'Ago's. Â But not in Glenview. Â
I urge the management to re-evaluate the pizza-making procedures at this suburban location. Â I've never been so disappointed in a pizza in my life.
So I spilled an entire glass of Sangria on my date's white shirt when I was at this place (2nd date), and the manager and waitress were great! Â They gave her a free restaurant T-shirt so she could change in the bathroom. Â She was very impressed by my calm in the face of disaster, and there have been many more nights out afterward.
Review Source:They have some really great lunch specials.Good bang for your buck! The pizza is an amazing and tasty bargain and the italian beef was good but it gets strong competition from several rivals locally from portillos and cellis. Service was really good but there were only three tables so can't really judge it yet.
Review Source:For everyone who wrote about the crappy service at this place - YOU ARE ENTIRELY CORRECT. Â It is laughable how little the servers care about anything the customer needs or requests. Â And even worse, the manager can't be bothered by customers and does not want to hear from them. Â That's why this problem continues.
People we know around Glenview who dined-in told us how bad it is and they will never go back. Â People who ordered-out gave us a different opinion. Â We dined-in - WE WILL NEVER GO BACK. Â (There are other reviews here about bad take-out experiences.)
At nearby tables we heard other diners telling servers "it's too late now, don't bring it, we don't want it anymore." Â We had to get up and track down basic table settings so we could eat, after asking our server four different times. Â Same for bread. Â And the manager does not care.
Note to the previous reviewer who described the server as stoned, we agree.
I ordered a gift certificate from http://Restaurant.com and while the gift certificate does not state that I cannot order via carry-out, the rude person on the phone would not honor the gift certificate. That's pretty awful service. Needless to say I will not be eating here ever.
Review Source:I don't know...we had the nicest, most attentive waiter, the best thin crust pizza (I do like their sweet tomato sauce) and just happened to be there when it was half price night. Â Couldn't have been more pleasant. Â The prices are so reasonable, and the salad was wonderful, too. Â We had a glass of wine (again, so reasonably priced). Â There is an eating area inside which had at lease 20 Â tables, so I don't know what other reviewers are talking about when they say its carryout only. Â Obviously, they didnt see the dining room?! Â I have eaten at Pizanos frequently (on Waukegan) and their crusts are delicious but often almost impossible to cut. Â So I consider this a more than fine alternative. Â Great service, great pizza and a pleasant room for a casual night out for pizza. Â Try it.
Review Source:The bar is a bit of a hidden gem. Very small with only about ten table and seating for 5-10 at the bar. It feels like an old school neighborhood place. They have a nice beer selection, but not an extensive selection on tap. The entire menu is available at the bar and their thin crust pizza is among the best in Chicago.
Review Source:I only did carry out. Â In fact I did less than that. Â I ordered and ate. Â I didn't pick-up or pay. Â The man who took my order did make me feel as if I just interrupted him at home. Â Dude....I am calling you to order food...food that we will pay for.....which is why you have a job....please act slightly appreciative....or get another job!!!!
The food was fantastic. Â The deep dish sausage was great. Â The thin crust was better. Â When I order again, I will re-post for a more complete picture of this establishment.
5- stars for the pizza
4- stars for the service
If you want to watch sports sit inside. If you want to see it close up sit in the bar area.
Service was a bit slow this past week but in their defense they were short a server . They should have a sign asking you to check in with the hostess for the outdoor seating as we sat there for a while before someone noticed us.
If you like really crispy thin crust order it well-done. You won't be disappointed - even the center pieces are crisp underneath - like a cracker.
Calzones are good - if you order a custom one be sure your order is clear we got an Italian Beef sandwich plus a plain calzone when we meant to order a cheese and Italian beef calzone.
The salads are very good too - their house made balsamic vinaigrette is tart and sweet.
For dessert order the chocolate chip cookie sundae - it is a bomb - awesome flavors and textures!
This is not really a place you'd want to take someone, or anyone for that matter, for a nice sit-down dinner (on account for crappy service).
But if you're in the area and you want to grab a quick slice of pizza, and not deal with any silliness:
just park in the rear parking lot behind the building, walk in to their back counter, look/order which slice you want since they have one or two pizzas prepared; get a can of soda and maybe a cookie.
(they make good pizza slices)
^^This was my midday work snack for 3 years.
We walked in and it was busy, nice to see on a Tuesday night. My wife and I try to frequent this place as much as we can because we are excited about the opening of the wheeling location and appreciate local family owned businesses.
The food has always been consistently good, although the pizza sauce is sweet which I don't care for too much. Â The service however is below average.
On this visit, we were greeted by a hostess who was not really that friendly. We were told that a table had just opened and It just had to be cleaned and we would be seated. Â That took 15 minutes. Â Had to ask 3 times for crayons and paper for the kids. Â No big deal. Â The hostess came by our table a few minutes later to take our drink order. The drinks took forever to arrive. The waiter showed up a few minutes later and said "are you ready" and I replied "you are our waiter?". Â The timing of everything was messed up too. Food came out really fast and the drinks came out really slow. The waiter kept referring to me as "boss" which is very annoying.
I could go on and on about the crappy service. I think it was just too busy and the place is just understaffed. The manager (or someone in charge) was no where to be seen. Â
The Cubs were playing the sox on tv yet they had ESPN on showing little league baseball on both dining room TV's. Suprising from a restaurant that was originally born in Wrigleyville. I didn't waste my breathe on asking them to put it on because that didn't seem like someone could handle that.
Bottom line is someone like the OWNER should be paying attention to what's going on. Why would you keep opening new locations if you can't manage the ones you have?? Â Excited and scared at the same time about the new Wheeling spot. Don't screw this one up too.
I have been to this place a few times; it's just okay.
The thin crust is usually good, but recently we tried to branch out and try the honey wheat "thin" crust.
It was a terrible! Â It tasted like the whole wheat pizza I occasionally make it home with Trader Joe's refrigerated dough, and that's not a good thing. Â It was much thicker than their regular dough--think Domino's or Pizza Hut pan pizza. Â and even though I asked the waitress how the whole wheat was, she just said, "it's good!" without mentioning that it's not actually thin.
I've Viccino's whole wheat pizza many times, and it is quite good (albeit salty). Â But alas this isn't a Viccino's review.
Once I made the mistake of ordering some kind of fish from this place and it was not good at all--dry and bland. I suppose that was my mistake for thinking a pizza place could have decent fish.
Their southwest salad was a nice surprise. Â It was delicious--the only thing it was missing was cilantro. Â
Some positives: Â It's a great place to bring kids especially because it has a great view of the train tracks with plenty of trains going by during rush hour. Â They also have a little library of children's books that you can choose from and take your table. I would encourage you to use your hand sanitizer afterwards--the combination of handling communal children's books and eating pizza with your hands doesn't make for a terribly sanitary combination.
I love thin crust pizza. The last time I came back home to visit my family we decided to come here. It was delicious that time. The crust, ingredient portions, etc.
I came back out this last time and thought that maybe we would make it a regular thing when I visit. I have to say it was pretty inconsistent. The crust seemed a little thicker, though I wouldn't swear by this and the toppings were disproportionate. Also, we found ourselves waiting a lot, though we were one of two tables in the dining room. Just one of those days I guess.
Really not a horrible pizza I was just a little disappointed was all.
Classless. This is a classless restaurant. On my first, and final visit here I was completely disgusted. I feel bad for the owners, that SOME of their staff doesn't seem to care.
1. Our wine arrived with cork pieces floating around, when we asked for new glasses, we watched the bartender take new glasses, place paper napkins over them and use paper napkins as a strainer- almost like a coffee filter, to attempt to remove the cork.
2. When we asked for plates for our pizza, our waitress grabbed 3 filthy plates and put them on our table. When I say filthy, I mean covered in onions and ranch dressing filthy.
3. One of the bartenders was talking outloud about watching a live childbirth, in detail. Try eating a pizza while listening to this.
Im sure the owner of this place is clueless to all of this, as it is the employees fault. The food was ok, but the experience as a whole left me with no desire to ever come back.
-PIZZA PIZZA PIZZA REVIEW-
I had thought the pizza at this location okay until I tried it from a nearby unnamed pizza joint and realized how off the mark I was. Â I like Dags, and the pizza at Wrigley is good, but now whenever someone from my company (very near Dags) orders pizzas from here, I will only eat it to not go hungry.
What brings it down? Â The sauce is okay, the crust is okay, the cheese is "eh." Â All together, it doesn't come off like a very impressive pizza. Â I would have to put this under a "disposable pizza" category that I'm starting to discover at more and more places. Â I took off a star because Dags makes a better pizza and this is below that standard.
This won't stop me from trying some of the other items on their menu at this locale- just the pizza.
If you're craving a quick Italian meal, this is the place to go. Their alfredo fries are delicious as are their sweet potato fries (be sure to try the sweet potato tater tots). I've had the penne primavera a few times (broccoli, grape tomatoes, onions, zucchini) and the penne pasta usually comes a little mushy, but the sauce is tasty., but I think that their pizza or calzones are a better way to go.
Review Source:Friday afternoon, around 5pm- peak happy hour. I walked across the street from the metra station for a few brews while waiting for the the next inbound train. "Any beer specials?"
"it's a Friday afternoon, whaddya think?!" the bartender says in an annoyed tone, and then turns his attention to the lone milf sitting at the bar.
Ohhhkay, a simple "no" would have sufficed. Hope you scored with the milf mr bartender! I won't be back to find out though.
I'm a bit torn on this review since I've been here previous times and had a decent time and service but this time around, I was just disappointed.
Strictly on the food quality, the neat section for kids to pick up books to play with, and the selection of variety for food, this place has the potential to be a four star restaurant especially since it's so close to The Glen and it's right across from the Glenview Metra station.
However, service is a bit lacking - when we were seated, it took two tries for them to respond to our request for menus. Â They also forgot to give us our silverware. Â After they served us our appetizers, they still forgot to hand it to us. Â We had to ask a third time and wait a good five minutes after our appetizer was served before we finally got our napkin and flatware. Â The food was decent but just disappointed in our service.
The location is great because it is near so many other things...Costco, Glen, train, "downtown" Glenview, library..etc. So it's a great place to stop for the convenience factor. However, we found the food to be just glorified bar food. If it weren't for the friendly atmosphere, it would be a 1 star rater. We got the turkey salad, the loaded tater tots, and we made a pizza. (homemade sausage, goat cheese, basil, tomato) Nothing very wow worthy, although I have to give them credit for a nice thin crust that is crisp. They have mini-desserts, which we had the brownie and the cookie. For a couple of bucks, they are these cute little cups of fudge, brownie/cookie, and a scoop of Homer's ice cream. Pleasant enough.
Review Source:Great family restaurant in this family-oriented neighborhood of The Glen, just across the street from The North Glen Metra station. Â That means this place gets slammed on weekends at earlier hours than city restaurants do.
D'Ags has a wide variety of food on their dinner menu - aside from the salads, pastas, sandwiches, and pizzas that you'd expect, they also have ribs and fried chicken. The most popular items I saw being ordered were salads, sandwiches (grinders), and their thin crust pizza. I've had the spinach salad ($9, serves at least 4) which was pretty divine because of the house vinaigrette. The appetizer platter was average (3 each of jalapeño poppers, mozzarella sticks, toasted ravioli, and fried mushrooms for $9). The grilled calamari had great char flavor (8 unappealing pieces for $9). The DAGS specialty pizza was ok too (18" XL for $24) - the ingredients (sausage, mushrooms, peppers, onions) weren't chopped thoroughly and sprinkled on sparsely. The pizza sauce is a little in the sweet side.
Overall, a 3-star restaurant for it's food quality, but an extra star for the family level business is brings in. Â Not many restaurants at The Glen are this kid friendly.
Convenient location coming off the train or working late in the Glen. Â They have pretty good food a place to crash waiting for your train. Â I would not come out of my way to dine here. Â On the other hand if you want to sit down and have pizza not a bad place to come with a group during lunch or after work if your in the area. Â This is a very average place with nothing spectacular to offer. Â They do have a bar and a place to bring clients and friends to do business. Â Despite being an average place sometimes that is a good thing because they are predictable. Â I can expect that there will not be a spectacular food or service here but usually serviceable.
Review Source:Really, D'Agostino's? Really? I have eaten your Tombstone quality pizza countless times when my office has ordered lunch (it's free, so I cannot complain) and have been known to pick up a to go slice in your Wrigleyville location when Bacci's is miserably crowded with Cubs traffic. And while your pizza is edible by "the blowjob standard" (even when bad it's good) the service at the Glenview location removed my tolerance of your horrible product.
I don't subscribe to the notion that being the only table in a restaurant means that you will get your server's full attention. As a matter of fact, I expect a slight bit of neglect because they aren't walking around and tend to disappear so as not to hover. For the love of God, I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt! That being said, my co workers and I shouldn't have to spend 20 minutes of our lunch break with closed menus waiting for our waitress to return. And when she returns, she'd damn better not ignore the 4 empty glasses and run off before we can ask for refills. As her only table, we were cutting into her sit on her ass time and she didn't care to hide her disdain of our presence. She could not have been more annoyed.
We sat parched for a solid 20 minutes waiting for our food, and we were finally able to ask our waitress (who I am convinced was stoned) to refill our drinks. As we sent her for more drinks, we asked for the check. When she returned we made her wait while we paid. There was no telling when we'd see her again. After all this, I was left with 15 minutes to eat a chicken sandwich (I think they should patent their trademark bland because it truly is like no other) and get back to my office.
D'Augostino's, I don't like to trash service on Yelp, but you really give me no choice. I can't say I won't eat the free pizza in my office kitchen or use your Wrigley location as a 2nd choice for a quick slice; but I can say that it'll be a cold day in hell before you see me menu in hand at your Glenview location.
Banned!
I've never eaten inside, but have gotten takeout and catering many times. Â Our company orders from here for pizza lunches, and I don't much care for it. Â The pizza (thin crust) seems flavorless and the crust extremely boring. Â I vastly prefer nearby Viccino's, or even Edwardo's or Giordano's if push comes to shove.
But some of their other food is decent. Â They have a large menu full of sandwiches, grinders, salads, pasta, and other entrees. Â And, they are friendly and quick. Â Their location is right across the Metra tracks from our office, so if I place an order and leave in five minutes, they will have it ready by the time I walk over there. Â Yesterday they successfully omitted the red onions from one of my employees' salads but gave me the wrong dressing for another. Â I know that mistakes happen, but I felt badly since she is pregnant and asked for extra dressing to begin with. Â Sometimes it's the little things. Â The ticket said "French," but they gave me ranch. Â Pay attention, D'Agostino's. Â
Recently I've been craving calzones, so yesterday I ordered theirs. Â It was huge--bigger than a football (but flatter). Â However, I assure you that you do not have to be an NFL defensive end to finish it, just a gluttonous regular-sized person. Â I give it a C+. Â The ingredients (pepperoni, green peppers, onions in this case) were good but there weren't enough of them. Â And the cheese was very thick and almost rubbery. Â I also didn't like the dough: Â it was bland, dense, and chewy. Â I dislike those calzones with a really thick edge that takes up 25% of the mass of the whole thing. Â There's almost no such thing as a bad calzone, so I enjoyed eating this, but it isn't what I would consider to be good.
When I used to think about where to go for thin crust pizza, I would think Marie's, Pat's, Villa Nova, or Oddo's. Â Now, D'Agostino's has made it to "the list"! Â So crispy, so thin, such good quality ingredients. Â Recommended!
Everyone on the staff here is very friendly. Â If you're not hungry and have time to kill when waiting for the Metra, when he's bartending, Greg's always happy to serve you a cold beer. Â I think he calls almost every guy that walks in "boss." Â
The food is consistently good here. Â Sandwiches/grinders are always a win too. Â The baked Club Grinder is served on crispy sourdough bread and packed solid with roast beef, turkey, ham, bacon and provolone cheese. Â The Italian Beef is quite good for not being Al's. Â And one of my favorite options at D'Ags is that instead of fries you can get TATER TOTS with your sammich! Â The sandwiches are hearty, so I take 1/2 to go so that I can enjoy the Tots while their hot. Â "Is she hot?" (Pedro, Napoleon Dynamite)
"Gimme some of your tots, Napoleon!"
"Get your own!"
The food is average. Â I will admit up front that I'm not a big pizza lover. Â I know, how un-American right? But when my coworkers are jonsing for a slice, I make do with their pasta selection. Â Overall, the food has been fairly consistent but nothing "special"
My primary complaint is the wait. Â For each of my 7-10 visits to D'Agostinos, I have yet to get my food in a timely fashion. Â For being a restaurant without a wait to be seated and an extreme close proximity to my office, there is no reason I should need an hour and a half for lunch.... and that is if I eat fast once it finally arrives! Â Each time, I am somehow surprised by this fact. Â Yet somehow I forget when a few months pass and a coworker is begging for pizza. Â Sigh.
Okay, so this place is just awesome. I love sitting on their patio during the summer and eating their delicious Hot Salad (Chicken with greens and spicy peppers). Â The pizza is definitely my favorite...I dare say anywhere....and that's pretty magnificent after my days of living in downtown Chicago with so many awesome pizza joints at my fingertips.
What I love most about this restaurant is its staff. Maybe it's because we've gotten to know them or maybe they are always so great, but they are just so kind and so friendly every time we are there. Â They go out of their way to make sure we are taken care of. Â They are just as happy to see us if we're with our adult friends only OR if we've entered with a whole herd of children (as we often do). Â
We have made a little tradition of meeting our friends here on Friday nights. It's "family" night for us. The kids have a blast and we get to enjoy good food and drinks.
Go there or take out, it's awesome!!
Had a birthday party for my 3 year old. Â Yummy thin crust pizza. Â Sauce is on the sweet side. Â They accommodate the tables by the front window plus a booth for a party of 17 -20. Â Not private and the tables are separated in the middle for easier access. Â Kind of keeps the food harder to get to and the conversations limited. Â But I believe the tables were separated for adults at one table and kids at the booth/table. Â (But most of the kids at the party needed a parent at their side). Â
Service was friendly and maybe needed another 1/2 server for our party. All 20 guests did not arrive on time so there were waves of service that was needed. I got a little confused because our waitress also had a twin sister (also a waitress), and I may have called on the wrong waitress a couple of times (served without probs).
Otherwise, a great family establishment, with good food. Â I always go for the Dags salad with hot peppers and sausage. Â My family chooses middle pieces of thin crust sausage pizza. Â And for the dairy allergy sufferer the Chicken tenders are the safe bet. Â For dessert, the kids go for the Homer's brand ice cream. Â One scoop does it for the kids.
