Yumm
Best chili relleno's in Denver... this has been my favorite Mexican restaurant for a long time.
Their margaritas are way better than Rio's and their chips and salsas are always fresh.
D'Corazon is the closest Mexican Restaurant to my condo. I so much want to "discover" (with the help of Yelp) my "go to" Mexican restaurant and the fact that it is soooo close would have been great! But alas, I was not impressed. I have to agree with some of the other reviews that said there was nothing special about the food. I didn't like the chips and salsa. The burrito was below average. They have a sign that says "Best Mexican food in Lodo..." which isn't saying a lot. There is not a lot of Mexican food in Lodo.
Review Source:Yelp once again didn't steer us wrong in Denver with this gem!
You know you've found a good place when the margs are $3 and it says, "limit 4" on the menu. Â I was scared they'd be crappy but man, was I wrong! Â Very potent!
Very fast service, chips/salsa/waters were brought over immediately.
*Carnitas were outstanding, only $10; had to supplement with an add'l taco which was also out of sight. Â GF got fajitas; smelled SO good. Â
After 2 margaritas each we were well on our way to an awesome night...All for under $40 for both of us. Â Go check this place out, you won't be disappointed.
My wife and I were craving Mexican food and asked the concierge at our hotel for a recommendation. Â This was the place and we could not have been happier. Â The food was EXACTLY what we were craving - Â fresh, just right spicey, and plenty portion-wise. Â The house margarita is cheap and tasty as well. Â Best tasting mexican and best value we've had in a long time. Â I'm definately hitting this place next time back in Denver!
Review Source:As a Yankee from the Midwest, now living on the East coast, I admittedly know nothing about quality Mexican food. However while visiting family in Denver, I was taken to their 'favorite' Mexican restaurant, D'Corazon. They knew what they were talking about! This was some of the best Mexican I've ever had - fresh, authentic, and SO good. It doesn't look like anything special from the outside (or the inside for that matter) but its a hidden gem.
Review Source:Yeah, the $3 margaritas were a good deal, tasty and strong, but not all that big. (It's just $3, so fine)
But nothing else was good here. Our server was a little snot, and the food was slightly below mediocre. I ordered the Chile Rellenos, which said it came with the famous Denver green chile sauce, but it arrived smothered in some red sauce. Disappointing. The poblano chiles were the smallest I've ever seen in my life. Like 2 inches long? How is that possible? And it wasn't dredged in egg batter and fried like it's supposed to be, it was gooped in about a 1/2 thick of some breading, and clearly pre-made and re-heated since it came out in about 2 minutes. It was hard to even find any of the tiny chile underneath all that breading. Gross.
Stop cutting corners with your food. Buy normal size poblanos, stuff them with quality queso, dredge in egg batter, fry, and for god's sake smother in green chile sauce if it says so on your menu! Oh, and serve them freshly made. And hire pleasant staff. That's all.
We stopped in here one night while at 16th St. Mall in search for chips and salsa. We walked in, and it was LOUD. So loud. Yelling level loud. As in, the only way to talk to your date is to yell. I didn't mind at first because the place seemed fun, but you should know if you go on a weekend night, it's not going tobe a quiet dinner. The free salsa was SPICY. Too spicy even for my husband, who loves spicy food. So then we ordered queso, in hopes that it would balance out the spice, but it was super spicy, so then we were out $7. At this point, we were pretty frustrated. However, our food was great. Husband got tacos and loved them, and I had a steak quesadilla that was good. The guac that was served with the quesadilla was amazing. If I go back, that is what I would get instead of queso. They did have margaritas for a good price, too. The servers were also spread too thin, which was annoying since the food was SO SPICY, and we needed more refills of water than we got.
Review Source:Affordable margarita choices (and delicious!) great beef&bean dip and a surprisingly, exciting a lively atmosphere. It's very unassuming from the outside. The free salsa is spicy, so beware. The carnitas is truly amazing. The tacos especiales is a big plate, so you won't new rice and beans. They come with lightly fried flour tortillas; super delicious. Husband got the fajitas and devoured them (combo chicken and steak). Overall, I will definitely be coming back!
Review Source:That is a damn fine $4 margarita!
I think they had a sign out front that said "best mexican food in LoDo" ... I hope not. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't very good either. It was just... meh. Very flavorless, bland. We had enchiladas and a taco... it was just... edible.
I guess if you're going for "consistently okay" it might make it, but otherwise I'm just going to stick to margaritas, which really were super tasty.
Someone call the DEA! Â
I'm fully convinced the good people at D'Corazon must slip a little something-something into their food.
Where else can you have a cheesy, saucy meal where you are so blissfully full and tipsy after a few margaritas, all for under $20?!
D'Corazon has a warm place in my heart and a permanent VIP room in my stomach. Â I've been to Mexico several times and while some may classify the menu offerings as "Americanized" Mexican, it sure looked and tasted a lot like the food I ate in Mexico. Â And even if it is a bit Americanized, you can't tell me you have a problem with things having too much delicious, spicy enchilada sauce smothered on top of your food that is filled with excess gooey cheese. Â And the restaurant itself, while a little cheesy, cramped, and loud, totally reminds me of the restaurants back in Puerto Vallarta. Â Now if only Denver had some sand and water =(
But in any case, this stuff is delicious and totally takes me back to my time in Mexico. Â The service is friendly, the majority of the menu falls under $10, and the house margaritas are $3 with dinner ($4 without food). Â The margaritas aren't the best I've had in Denver (I'd venture to say the house margarita might be among the least delicious margaritas I've had in Denver), so next time, I might skip the house deal and go for a flavored version of their margarita (which is only $1 or 2 more expensive). Â
The #6 combo (a massive portion/sampler of 1 smothered cheese enchilada, 1 smothered tamale, 1 bean and cheese tostada, and 1 beef taco) holds a very special place in my heart. Â If you're like me (hungry and indecisive), this is the perfect plate to get.
If you're going out for some food and margaritas, I'd highly recommend stopping in at D'Corazon for the meal portion (and a super cheap margarita) and then skipping over to the Rio for their tiny, albeit delicious margaritas to continue the fiesta.
This is a great, local, fast, friendly place for lunch. (I haven't been there for dinner). Â This is the type of place you can come and eat in 25 min. if that's what you're looking for. Â Chips and salsa are on the table the second you sit down. The food comes out approximately 4 min. After you order. Â Nothing was spectacular, but the food is good, reasonable and fast. Â It is also packed, so that speaks to the value. Service is fast and efficient. Â I wouldn't come here for a leisurely lunch, but would come back for quick good eats!
Review Source:Absolutely my favorite Mexican food I've found in Denver. Â The chile rellenos are amazing - definitely worth trying! Â Margaritas are great too - definitely a little strong, but you can't pass them up.
Everytime I have out of town guests, we go to D'Corazon and I've never heard a bad thing about it!
I can't seem to find good Mexican food where I live, so I was pretty happy when my friend directed me to D'Corazon while I was visiting Denver.
I had the carnitas taco dinner with beans and rice, and a horchata to drink. Â Everything was very tasty. Â Not too much more to add.... my fellow yelpers have gotten to it first!
Service and price were both very good.
Recommend!!
I had my birthday dinner here and it was great! Â The prices are very reasonable and the margaritas are very good!! Â I had the steak fajita burrito and the steak was great, the peppers and onions were cooked perfectly! Â We had an order of the queso and it was unlike any queso I've had before. Â They included their salsa in it which gave it a good kick, which I liked!! Â I will definitely be back!!
Review Source:Wow do I love D'Corazon! With their amazing authentic Mexican food, and delicious margs, it makes it one of my favorite Lodo spots. I love the tacos here. Only to be rivaled by Mexico City, and their carnitas burritos make my mouth water! I love the prices, and its so much better than the Rio across the street (sorry Rio).
Two notes:
1. The friendly service of the employees here is worth its weight in gold. They describe everything in detail and never seem annoyed or pained by their job (which happens a lot with servers)
2. They do cater upon request. We got a large office order here. The prices were outstanding!
Enjoy this favorite of mine :)
This place was good. When we arrived, the service was quick but it slowed down as the clientele picked up. Overall, the food good and there was a kick to the salsa and chili. The margaritas were delicious and not filled with overly sweet margarita mix: it actually tasted like a margarita!
Review Source:This is the best Mexican place in Denver! The food is cheap, delicious, and authentic (I think!). Try the chicken-mole enchiladas - I kid you not these are the best enchiladas I have ever tasted. Â In fact, my boyfriend and I fight over who is going to order them. Â Everything else that I have had here has been excellent as well, but they have me hooked with the enchiladas.
Review Source:Great mexican! The salsa is def five stars...very spicy and a great smokey flavor. The cheese enchiladas and chili rellenos are also great! The absolute best thing about D'Corazon are the margaritas. They actually have a limit as to how many you can order because they are so strong. They aren't so sour that you feel a stomach ache and they taste so smoothe the alcohol doesn't overpower the flavor. They also have a location on 6th and Union if you live out that way.
Review Source:Maybe I'm a spoiled Californian, but I wasn't too impressed with the Mexican food here. Â I'm not going to say it's bad, and the service was decent and they seemed to have a good crowd for a Tuesday night, but it is not authentic. Â The prices are very affordable as well.
I got a chicken enchilada and a shredded beef taco. Â The beef in the taco tasted like mushy beef that had been in the slow-cooker too long. Â The chicken enchilada was only so-so...I think it lacked some key Mexican flavors, cheese, and sauciness.
I think I would eat here if  "everyone else wanted to" or if I kind of ran out of options.  But for this California girl who gets her share of a ton of great Mexican food, this didn't really make the cut for me.
Skip the food at the Rio in favor of dinner here. It's not as crowded (I'm talking dinner hour as opposed to lunch, which I can't vouch for), the prices are more reasonable and the food actually tastes like something (as opposed to the bland fare across the way).
I had the chicken fajitas which were well-portioned, juicy and priced to compete at $11.99. One complaint is that they were fairly builder basic, and had fewer toppings than fajitas often come with (in particular I was missing the carbo-licious Spanish rice that typically accompanies such an affair). However, I imagine if you HAD to have more food, it could be added for a reasonable price.
Didn't get to sample the chili rellenos, but I imagine they must have been delish as my husband and all 3 of his friends ordered some combo that included them, but all joined the clean plate club before I could snag a bite.
Unfortunately, I can't speak to the margs because I didn't have one owing to an interview the next day, and the few other times I've had them here, I would say I don't remember the night well enough to cobble together an honest review. Lest you think I'm bashing it's neighbor across the way, I will say that friends and I often come here for dinner and a drink and finish our drinking damage the way.
Just ok. Someone recommended this place to us.
Service - Excellent. Very friendly, fast, attentive (even when it was extremely busy).
Ambiance - Loud. We couldn't hear each other speak across the table.
Food - Ok. I had the traditional chicken mole...the sauce was tasty, but chicken was rubbery. Rice and beans sides were a little bland. My husband had carnitas, which was very tender but not much flavor to it. Chips and salsa appetizer - probably my favorite part of the meal. Salsa is very spicy so beware! We both had the knockout margaritas, which were strong, but the tequila in them was pretty cheap, watch out for hangover.
I visited Colorado and this is the best restaurant that I've discovered. I ordered the Traditional Style Mole and wow, so freaking good. I paid less than 10 bucks I think. I'm salivating right now while writing this.
Btw, the servers are friendly. I can speak Spanish and I had a great time conversing with them.
Totally recommended.
A friend and I ventured to D'Corazon not to long ago for a quick Mexican lunch. Â Place is packed at lunch, be for warned.
We both decided to order of the lunch combo options. Â I got the lunch option #1, chile relleno, chicken enchilada, with rice and beans. Â I can't exactly remember what my friend had although we did have similar items. Â
This is fast Americanized Mexican food, so if you are looking for authentic Mexican food don't come knocking. Â This is a quick fix if you are craving some of those Mexican flavors or the like. Â Our food was fast on arrival, nice sized lunch portion, and pretty tasty. Â I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to come here, out of convenience I see future visits. Â
A solid three star Yelp experience I would say.
Found this place randomly on the way to a Nuggets game. Â What a nice Surprise...I'm not the kind of person that likes to eat at places like the "Rio" so when we saw this place across the street we happily made the trek.
It was really good. Â I mean I don't think I have to break down the food, it's good Mexican...what else do you need. Â I'm looking forward to going back and trying more of the menu....and some of those margaritas everyone likes!
Meh, all around. Perhaps we should have crossed the street.
Kids, gf and I worked up an appetite viewing the chalk art on Larimer, and headed to TD's for a dog & maybe Mac n Cheese. Unfortunately, they are closed forever. Kids said, "Mexican is OK," and D'Corazon is right there.
Waitress messed up two of the orders, the food was just passable, and the vibe was off. I had the Chile Relleno, which did have a nice & spicy green smother. The steak quesadilla turned into a chicken variety somehow, and son's "cheese free" burrito came out smothered.
Overall, a less than satisfying experience.
Slap me sideways, that's a strong margarita. Screw Rio y'all, this place is the real deal and their food is way better.
Chips & salsa, check! Salsa is slammin' with just the right mix of cilantro and kick.
The taco, smothered burrito and chile rellenos were bountiful and beautiful. The green chile suffocating my plate was all but slurpped up off that surface and we both wanted to get some to go. We didn't, but we talked about it on full bellies, so you know it was good.
The patio is a little crampy, and I definitely didn't appreciate the a-holes next to us slamming tequila, hooting & blowing cig smoke in my face as I went to take a bite of my relleno, but because that relleno was so damn good--I'll only take one star for that. It was a bummer about the bros, but really, who can prevent the douchebaggary but the douchebags anyway?
Back to the marg: so strong, couldn't finish it because we were going to see a MOOOOvie at the PaviLLLions and I didn't want to be all sloppy in my seat. Just a half of one gave a good ring to the feel of the evening. Plus Four-Dolla-HOLLA! At that cheap, I'll be back for a full one, and maybe two if I'm not slurring. ;-)
I always went here on Friday nights. This was my spot in Denver for Mexican food and a nice walk from work and home. Â I love the chile relleno's and always had the combo that included one.
The service was prompt and always friendly. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a good Mexican grub! Hat's off.
Was introduced to this little downtown gem by fellow yelpers Holly and Seth G. Â After being out doing a little evening drinking at Copper Kettle Brewery in Aurora, we all three started to crave some Mexican. Â D'Corazon-way across town-was where we headed because I was assured by Holly and Seth that it was "that good."
They were right. Â The BEST Rellenos I've had--and I'm a bit of a relleno snob. Â This is something I will regularly order at a new mexican joint to really see how well they are doing their biz. Â It's my measuring tool for mexican food. Â And D'Corazon is doing something right. Â They were crispy on the outside, but not super greasy. Â The chiles on the inside were still recognizable and really flavorful. Â When rellenos are drenched in batter and fried, sometimes the chiles just melt into the a greasebomb. Â Not at D'Corazon! Â Yum.
Good rice and beans and really yummy salsa. Â Pretty spicy! Â Which I like. Â Also, if you order food, margaritas are only $3 and they are pretty good for $3.
Our waitress was super attentive and had our water/chips full and dishes cleared all in good time.
Needless to say, it might be kinda dangerous to know about this place now. It's close to work and home. Uh oh! :)
D'Corazon is a great Mexican restaurant in Lodo. Â I went there for dinner on a weeknight with my husband and some out of town friends who wanted good Mexican food ... we were downtown so we Yelped "Mexican food" and this came up with the highest rating.
My husband got enchiladas, one friend ordered a mole, one ordered flautas, and I ordered the carnitas with a chile relleno on the side. Â Everyone enjoyed their food--the friend who ordered the mole said it was among the best he's ever had, and my carnitas had a ton of flavor. Â The chile relleno was spicy and cheesy and delicious too.
Another great thing about D'Corazon is the price. Â Our bill was under $60 for four dinners and three margaritas. Â I definitely recommend this place for anybody looking for yummy Mexican food.
I am definitely a fan of the service and the Margs. Went for my dad's birthday happy hour and they were excellent. We are a tough crowd but our server kept with us. Excellent Margs - pack a punch SO have a DD!! :-) Great for groups!!!
Great Carnitas! Lots of flavor in the meat, mild chile. The nachos were a little bit disappointing, but the guac was fantastic. Still it is terrific to have another good option in Lakewood.
OMG! Best Mexican Food in the City! It is so hard to find really good mexican food when your in the very heart in the city, one kind find actors of mexican food but not true mexican food.
This place this amazing, I stumbled upon D'Corazon with a friend of mine, we had just finished a carriage ride downtown, something my friends and I do often especially in the warmer months, if the horses we like are out and we get the deals we want. We were about to head back to a friends house, as the farthest south that a carriage company can go is Market. So we were walking down the mall and my friend had mentioned she was hungry.
I knew we could turn around and go up the mall for some "fast food" options or that we could keep walking and look for some options down blocks that maybe open at that time of night.
This place is right off the 16th street mall, right pass a Starbucks, very brightly colored but I love the colors, the different colors of dishes, and chairs, it makes one think of a mexican resturant that I always associate with good with.
They have a good selection in food, and if your curious about something like there chili or something like one of there sauces, you can always ask for your sample before ordering it especially if a sauce of chile has a large part of what your ordering.
They are also very good with groups and work equally wlll with qne qtqin thqnk
Stopped by this place after happy hour a few blocks up the street.
Service: Superfriendly and fast. Our server was courteous in spite of being so late. We were a few minutes from closing time. Still they took us in, no problem.
Ambiance: It is very colorful and vibrant. Everyone one would expect from a Mexican restaurant.
Food: We all ordered carnitas, since we had been drinking for a while. Before that we had the guacamole and chips, not much to talk about, could have been better. But the carnitas were incredible. However they were a bit stingy with their portions! I know it is a difficult balance between too much food and not enough, but really! The margaritas, yes more drinking! Were awesome! In spite of the "A-Ok" score I will definitely be back for more food and margaritas.
Having moved here from LA, I've had a lot of good Mexican food, and this place is definitely one of the best. Don't get put off by it being packed during lunch. The wait goes extremely quickly, I promise.
FOOD: A+
Absolutely delicious! Worth every penny (and it's not a lot of pennies either). Most options are about $7-$10, and the portions are sizable. I've pretty much narrowed down the menu to the two best options, and now just alternate between the two. You've got to try them:
- Carnitas: the most wonderfully tender pieces of beef in a special 23-ingredient sauce that's just perfectly spicy. Best carnitas I've had.
- Carne Adobada: Â delicious pork steak marinated in red chile and vinegar sauce.
DRINKS: A
Delicious house margaritas for $4. Not as strong as the Rio's, so you're probably not going to be drunk when you get back to work after lunch. But if that's your goal, just have 2 or 3 :)
SERVICE: A+
The service here is always impeccable. It gets packed, but we still get seated 10-15 minutes after we get here -- mostly because the food gets served so quickly after ordering. Servers are always attentive and want to make your experience here positive. The owner/manager is always very friendly, too -- so it really feels like a great local place where you're always welcome.
Hands down - my hubby & I's favorite Mexican restaurant in town. Everything is seriously amazing, including in the salsa. The best dishes are the chile rellenos (either crispy or soft - both yummy), carnitas, and enchiladas. Mmm...writing this review update is making me want to eat dinner there.
The staff is still awesome and as friendly as ever. When I need some comfort food, this place hits the spot every time.
I'm a huge fan of going out for Mex and Margs and have been searching for my go-to Mexican joint since moving to town from Steamboat a little over a year ago. Â Last weekend I called off the search after discovering D'Corazon. Â
I'll spare you the blow-by-blow account of the evening and belabored description of the products enjoyed by offering you the following summary: the restaurant itself is not really a hole in the wall, nor is it trying to be all trendy--just right for Mex any night of the week and located downtown, to boot; the food was dynamite, served up lickety split and priced perfectly; the margs were plenty strong and tasty for 4 bucks; the service was on point and it was a rather busy Friday night. Â For two people we had: two apps, two entres, and 3 margs each for under 60 bucks including a 20% tip.
