Underwhelming. My boyfriend ordered a belgium waffle with strawberries and whip cream....It came out with no strawberries or whip cream but with just little packets of butter and syrup on the side. Very disappointing to say the least then we had to try to find a server to get strawberries and ship cream which took a while. They just said they did noot have any strawberries cut. I figured that would have been taken care of when he ordered the waffle. Lack of any initiative to make it right it seemed, and did not make us want to come back. My breakfast was ok but nothing special. I had a pasta egg dish. It was pretty much pasta with scrambled eggs in it. I could have made better. The server showed up to take our order with a dirty rag on his shoulder, and maybe that's not such a big deal but just a bit of a turn off. Really if the food was good I probably wouldn't have cared about the lack of appearance at all. Then to top it off my boyfriend order a mojito (which was made to sweet) but they actually charged $18 for it. I have been bartending the past 8 years and found that a bit over the top. Maybe I just had a bad experience but I have no desire to go back.
Review Source:With a happy hour offering half off on all drinks and apps from 1-6 pm everyday, I had to check this place out and made my first trip a few months ago.
The cocktails are 6 bucks on happy hour and reading the description on the menu, they looked interesting enough. Unfortunately, the taste is a familiar one--it is that of cough syrup. Not what I expected from the Peggy's Pomegranate Mojito. They have an okay selection of beers, my favorite being BBC's bourbon barrel stout for 3 bucks. Definitely sticking with that route if I ever find myself there for happy hour again.
If you can't get enough of typical greasy pub fare, check out the appetizers. They have all of the usual suspects: wings, calamari, mozz sticks, etc. Similar to the mediocrity of the selection, the taste is right there in the average zone.
I will rave about the bbq chicken pizza I had there for dinner earlier tonight. I decided to give the place a second chance and I'm glad I did! Not only did the pizza feature what appeared to be a whole wheat crust, but it also had huge gooey chunks of both gouda cheese dotting the pizza. It was a nice way to taste each element: a bite of chicken here, a little bbq sauce there, and then a glob of cheese in the next bite. This could have been a very heavy dish, but the Ditto's crew saved it from that fate. I was pleasantly surprised and even took the second half home with me. It had about 8 medium-sized slices.
I was determined to hate this place. When my group and I entered, one of the patrons made insulting Ching-Chong sounds. In my head I was thinking "It goes to show what kind of people eat at this place." That same porker of a man wouldn't look me in the eye while I bored holes into his skull. Every day I was visiting Kentucky I would mention how sweet the people were. Isn't it 2012? Normally any kind of experience like that leaves a real bitter taste in my mouth.
However, I was pleasantly surprised at the caliber of cooking at Ditto's. The calamari was lightly breaded and crispy, the appetizer dip was comfort food at it's best (think fully loaded nachos) and the crispy chicken pasta I ordered was perfectly cooked. It's tough cooking chicken right - too many times I've been handed extra dry chicken breasts that are stringy but not at Ditto's! It was so juicy. Our server was gone for long periods of time though so that was the only downfall.
Dinner cheered me right up. Can't say I'll be visiting KY any time soon but if I did, I'd eat here again.
It always amazes me that this place is still in business. Food is overpriced and underwhelming. The only time I ever go here is because I am forced to go with a group of people who have no idea what good food is, or so I can walk through to Steven's and Steven's in the back, which is AWESOME.
Review Source:Average Place, Average Service, Average Food, Average Review.
This was my first time eating at Dittos's Grill, I had heard a lot of average things about experiences. I even knew one of the servers who expressed it was an Average place to work. It wasn't my attempt to eat at Ditto's, but we are always willing to try new places.
We started with the Signature Ditto's Dip, which was like a sausage queso. It was pretty Average comfort food, with a odd combination of hot and cold temperatures.
The menu had some good unique cocktails, when they came out we thought both of ours were okay.
Our service at both the bar and while dining was pretty average nothing to write home about. We got drink refills and attention, but you could tell that the staff was to busy to do more then that. We sat right behind the hostess stand and got to hear all the service drama and watch the staff actually talk about us, while we were looking at them, they could have just asked us if we had been waited on, but I guess the hostess two feet away would know too.
There was a lot of crazy choices on the menu, I say crazy because of the flavor combination. My meal was tempora chicken with apple slices and then brown gravy. My meal came with brown rice and chop up vegetables. I am not certain what they expected it to taste like, but it was presented like chicken fried steak and my whole dish was covered in brown gravy. My whole meal tasted like apple brown gravy. It was pretty run-of-the-'meal' average.
The whole cost of the meal was pretty affordable and made us feel a little better about the whole experience being average. Unfortunately for Ditto's I know many above average places in Louisville so I will not be back.
Total Review Average Count: 11
I have to admit that ever since I came here for a high school dance (junior prom I think?), this is not a place I pick (unless its for a soup and salad) but my parents love it so we went last night. Â As always, the service was impeccable and incredibly patient with us... and I learned that both my parents and my younger sister know the owner by first name when he came over to check on us. Â
We were impatient and I was high maintenance as I was hungry. Â The family got the Thai wings (which I couldn't eat as I don't do chicken) with tobacco onions. Â The waiter brought me fresh and yummy sourdough rolls when the gang let him know I didn't do wings.
My sister had the drink special - a Ginger Peach Manhattan with peach schnapps and Woodford (I believe) Â served sans cherry. Â It was exceptionally tasty.
I had a special entree... a blackened salmon and Caesar salad. Â The blackened salmon was served beside the salad, hot and cooked perfectly!!! Â The Caesar had red peppers and croutons... but not peanuts as it has always been traditionally served at Dittos. Â I was disappointed but the waiter explained that there was a concern about peanut allergies! Â BOO. Â
Everyone seemed pleased with their entrees and plates were cleaned so the meals must have been tasty.  I'm just an angry little gastro-gnome  because I always enjoyed Dittos' Caesar with peanuts!  Woe to foodies everywhere if this distressing trend speads!
I have eaten here two times and enjoyed the visit each time. Â If you are i the mood for protein and a bit healthier than a ground beef Burger; try the amazing Bison burger!! Â It was juicy and flavorful. Â My favorite in town. Â The downside was the fries were not fresh; other than that my meal was great. Â Love the location to the activity on Bardstown Rd.
Review Source:There was a rule somewhere in a reviewers code book or something that says, don't ever rate a restaurant based on a special buffet, especially is that restaurant isn't a buffet style restaurant. Â Well I am glad to say, I am breaking that rule. Why? Because if you're going to serve it, you deserve to be judged.
Luckily Ditto's Easter Brunch Buffet was amazing. Â I have been fortunate enough to eat at Ditto's outside the Easter craziness, and I was impressed. Â I was scared that their food wasn't going to translate well to a buffet, but it did. Â One dish I love is the Eggs Benedict Arnold. Â Your typical eggs benedict, but instead of drowning it all in hollandaise sauce, they cover it in cheese sauce. Â In my opinion, that is the way all eggs benedict should taste.
Because they turned over so much food, nothing tasted like it was sitting in a steam tray for very long, and the flavor was great. Â If you ever find yourself in Louisville, KY this place is a must check out, even if it isn't Easter. Â I will make it back.
The only disappointment of the morning was the dessert selection. Â If I wanted market day cheesecake, I would have stayed home, but this is just a small blemish on an otherwise great brunch.
On my most recent trip to Ditto's our party of 6 waited about 15 minutes to be seated despite our reservation and a dozen empty cleared tables throughout the restaurant. Â Everyone asked the same thing "Why are all these people waiting to be seated with all of the empty tables?" Â The only answer we could come up with was that the wait-staff was painfully slow. Â We tried to kill some time at the bar but the bartender ignored us for a solid 10 minutes. Â By the time we had decided on drinks we were ready to be seated(minus our drinks). Â
Our waiter struggled to remember who had what drinks and didn't take the orders or deliver the drinks in any particular order(probably didn't make it any easier to remember). Â Food orders were an ordeal; once again the waiter skipped around the table while taking them and when repeating them back to us. Â He also had no recommendations on what to order, which brings us to the meal. Â
Apparently in Ditto's world Blackened Chicken Alfredo means macaroni and cheese with chicken stirred in. Â Everyone kept referring to it as "Chicken Helper" because it looked like it was straight out of a Hamburger Helper box. Â My Chinese Burrito was essentially stir-fry served with tortillas. Â The Hosin sauce was the best part of the meal and apparently the best thing at the table. Â
Save yourself some time and skip Ditto's and go to Ramsi's instead. Â Hell skyline chili is pretty close too. Â It's not very good but at least the prices are reasonable.
Huge open space makes it great for groups or squirmy kids. Â The food is very average and on the expensive side. Â We had a caesar salad, pork chop, and kids meals. Â The pork dish had mushrooms and onions with mashed potatoes. Â The meal tasted like a good frozen dinner. Â The caesar was ok. Â The kid's mac and cheese was good, and the chicken strips were good. Â And we liked that fresh fruit was an option with the kids meals. Â I would give the food here a 2.5 and the ease of the dining experience a 4.
Review Source:I was back in Louisville visiting family recently. Â I used to live in the Highlands and ate at Ditto's quite a bit 10+ years ago when I was in college. Â All I can say is bring back the artichoke dip! Â We requested it and it is no longer on the menu. Â Interestingly enough, our waiter said that he had at least three requests for it in the past couple of weeks.
As with any restaurant, if you are a local, you know what to order on the menu. Â Can't say that everything there is stellar. Â The raspberry chicken salad is very good. Â They also have a solid fish sandwich and good tobacco onion rings. Â Would I recommend it to someone from out of town that has never been to Louisville?.... probably not, since there are so many other excellent restaurants in the Highlands now. However, if your in the area, not a bad place for lunch.
BTW try Stevens & Stevens which is a separate deli located in the back of the restaurant, good sandwiches!
Food is just below "above average", but there is a great variety in the menu. Â With that plus, you most likely find something to eat that will satisfy you. Â It's been around a while. Â I may be getting too used to the decor, but maybe it needs to get spruced up a bit.
I pretty much go for the burger most of the time and ask for Henry Bain sauce.
Ditto's is a trendy happening place. I am a friend of a friend and with that honor comes food Frank does not have on the menu. If you can talk him into a fillet, he ages it like no one else, it was out of this world.
Get a booth, get a cocktail with vodka and talk him into fillet.
Oh yeah, if it is in pumpkin pie season, his are a must. They were so good it almost hurt my mom's feelings. (She makes the best pumpkin pies)
