I've been meaning to write a review on this place for a few weeks now cause, thanks to Kathy V, I just can't get over how awesome karaoke is here. She hosted a UYE (Unofficial Yelp Event) here to share the awesomeness that is Anselmo's after dinner hours.
Seriously, I'm not a karaoke person but I do love to try and belt out songs in groups. All of my karaoke experiences until this night had been done as at least a duet. Anselmo's karaoke doesn't quite have a following yet, so the night started out with just us Yelpers and a random couple who appeared to have had recently finished dinner so it was a different atmosphere than a typical karaoke place. Initially, I felt like singing karaoke with only my vocals would be kind of daunting, but let me tell you - this is the PERFECT place for your group to have your own "private" karaoke. It's judgement free, partially because there's not enough people to create any judgement and partially because everyone there was really friendly, relaxed and easy-going. It was a Saturday night so things naturally picked up on the later side and the bar was full of groups of other karaoke goers. My advice: get there early and get warmed up when it's just you and your group and then it's even more fun when the crowds come in.
1792 Ridgemont Reserve Bourbon was $5 and the jello shots actually packed some punch as far as the amount of liquor goes. I think these jello shots might actually be the only ones served in a bar that I've ever successfully felt a buzz from. Ever.
The food may be hit or miss (idk, I've never had it), but with the karaoke it's all up to you and you can definitely make a fun night out Anselmo's!
This is a competent entry in the Italian family eatery niche that is so prevalent along the Bardstown Road corridor. They take a few risks, which I like. Portions are small, which I don't like as much (although I generally don't overeat my preference is to be able to carry some home with me). Still, this is walking distance for me and service is snappy.
Review Source:It's no Come Back Inn, but its worth a try.
My wife and I visited the other night and took advantage an alfresco dining opportunity. We happen to give it a try on a Tuesday, and they had several specials. One of which was half off their house wine (Salmon Creek). My wife opted for a Panzenella Salad (9.99)and added grilled chicken (2.50), while I chose their "version" of the Kentucky Hot brown (10.99) sided with a Caesar Salad. The later came out first. The romaine and croutons were very  fresh. However, the dressing was not as zesty as I hoped. I am also a fan of anchovies, and was disappointed that a few bits were not present. On whole, it was poor offering.  As to the Hot Brown, their "version" was like any other Hot Brown you might expect , save the baguettes, which were substituted for toasted white bread. It was a bit salty, but tasty.
My wife enjoyed her salad and the mozzarella cheese was fresh and had the right texture; moist and firm. The balsamic vinaigrette, arrived in two parts; one part vinaigrette and the other a reduced balsamic, so you can mix the two to your own taste. We agreed it was a nice touch.
In terms of portions, there is nothing to rave about here. I was satisfied, but the price point does not match what was plated.
Service was prompt. Our server, Tori, was very informative as to the menu, friendly and seemed genuinely interested in our experience. Â She immediately brought water for us as well as for pet, Ferdy Boy upon being seated. Again, a nice touch.
Last comment: I would opt not to go around 6:30 or so as the TARC buses make it impossible to hear your own thoughts. We dined early as our house was being remolded during that time. Â We stayed around for two plus hours, and can say that post 7:00 is the way to go.
