Stumbled into this relatively new craft beer haven while wandering down Bardstown Road the other night. Spent the next couple of hours getting to know the beers, getting to know the bars and getting to know the staff. Overall? Fan-friggin'-fantastic. As a guy who enjoys trying tasty and various beer, I'll be visiting again (and again and again) soon.
The bar features twenty-four ever-changing and diverse taps from a wide variety of regional and national breweries. On my visit, we saw some well known names next to some intriguing obscure ones. Â Don't know a lager from a stout? No worries- Patrick will answer any question and walk you through each beer with the right balance of knowledge and passion. You will find the perfect beer. No pretentious bar staff here - just a incredibly friendly group who know & love their beer.
As a head's up, the bar is a bit on the smaller side and they honor their name by only serving craft beer (with the exception of a couple of lager domestic bottles) - no liquor or wine here. They do have a kitchen with tasty looking bar grub, but we didn't have a chance to sample the food while we were there.
In short, River City Drafthouse may not be the right bar for everyone, but it was certainly the perfect bar for us.
Fun little place with a great beer selection at decent prices. I liked that you could get beer in three different sizes, which essentially allowed for "samples." I haven't tried the food yet, but the owner is from the Mid-Atlantic area, judging by both his inclusion of "crab fries" (Fries with Old Bay) on the menu and him telling us he was from there.
My only star off is for a lack of internet presence and hours on the door. My husband and I went to catch a game on a Monday and River City was closed. What a bummer to drive all that way for nothing.
