Our bill was $102 before tip for 2 people. We each had 2 drinks & entrees and my hubby had a tuna appetizer. We had a $40 Groupon (which we paid $20 for). Â My hubby would give this place 4 stars-but I think it is more of a 3 star restaurant.
GREAT: Chicken Teriyaki, French Garlic sauce (this is not sauce but more like a garlic patty topping for hibachi items), fried rice, Rasberry Tini drink was served in a larger martini glass & was absolutely wonderful!
The service was great. We experienced no issues using our Groupon. The chef was entertaining.
GOOD: Filet (somewhat bland), shrimp, scallops, tuna appetizer was "between good & great"
OK: broth, salad dressing (would have preferred Ranch)
The filet tasted much better with the French Garlic topping.
I probably won't be back because I would rather go to Solliphana Korean BBQ in Schaumburg or any PF Chang restaurant where the food is all fantastic.
My family has eaten at this location since it opened. Â The food quality & service has went downhill. Â Â First our waters came and they tasted funny. They had bubbles in them. Â We sent it back. Â Next the shrimp tasted fishy. Â Gross.. Â Â The rest of the meal was below average in taste and freshness. Â Â That is our last time eating at Domo in Aurora, Illinois.
Review Source:Definitely NOT the best hibachi place. Much potential, but not there. While the food is good, I've experienced much better flavorful food at similar places. And our server? Omg. So my husband and I sit down and I leave for the restroom. Meanwhile the server comes by and asks him what he wants to order- he literally hadn't even opened the menu. He said he's waiting for his wife. So as soon as I come back to my seat, she comes and asks if I'm ready to order. Hello I justttt sat down so I said no I haven't looked at. I open the menu to take a look and literally 30 seconds later she's back asking if I'm ready. Feeling extremely rushed, I hastily ordered something. Kinda wanted some sushi along with the meal but I didn't even get to take a freakin look at that part of the menu. Whatever, their loss. The chef came and he was energetic and fun with us so that was nice. Although I gotta say we were given half a bowl full of fried rice, while the other couple got an overflowing bowl... Soooo yeah. So the chef leaves and we all start eating. After my fourth bite, literally, our server comes back and asks if we want to go boxes now. The poor other couple at our table said they're not sure yet and I gave her a wtf look and said I just started eating. I don't like being rushed. At all. It was pretty rude and honestly very annoying. Our entire table was kinda looking at each other like wtf is happening here. Then I gave my groupon and got my bill back and saw that they never took my 20 bucks off and then they tried offering me a $20 gift card for next time. Um hello, what makes u think I'm ever coming back here, let's be real. I meannnn I understand u have to advertise deals on google offers, living social, and groupon, but then to try to jip me and give me a gift card to try to get me back at ur failing establishment, that's honestly just pathetic.
To sum things up, food is just okay, service is horrible, and the only reason I gave 2 stars is because our chef was a nice guy. My advice to u is to avoid this place.
Was there on Sunday, July 31 for dinner with my fiance. Â Server's name was Nicole and she was fantastic. Â Food is great, but then again, I always get the same thing. Â I am not a sushi fan. Â The chef that prepares your food makes a big difference in how much we enjoy our experience. Â I like that they'll prepare it any way you want and you can watch them do it. Â The French Garlic is very good with my hibachi filet and teriyaki chicken. Â Not cheap by any means (our bill was $64 for 2 people and that was only drinking soda) but a nice occasional treat. Â Will try to find a Groupon for next time.
Review Source:Saturday night-early. Menus were torn, made of paper and dirty. Was hot outside and restaurant was very warm-AC on but not sure if could just not keep up. Had so many restrictions on what and how to order. Wait staff was nice. Manager said if in sushi room had to get sushi and my 11 year old not to big on it and said we had to order something from the kids menu. Was going along and asked the manager if we could get some fried rice or something for him. She was very rude and we ended up walking out of the place. Wheaton location have been there many times and like it. A business is only good as the people you hire.
Review Source:Domo is about my least favorite sushi restaurant in the area. Â It is noisy, often overcrowded, and overpriced. Â I refuse to go there on Friday or Saturday nights. Â The service is mediocre, and so is the food. Â It is hard to get a drink refill in a timely manner. Â I would rather go to Kiku or even Nagoya.
Review Source:My sister knows good sushi and swears by this place. Â I've only eaten here once and didn't have a great experience.
Its a classy place inside, and the staff was very friendly. Â We ordered the all you can eat sushi/appetizers option. Â The wait for our sushi was horrendous. Â The appetizers came out quickly enough, but there was a 25 minute wait between the appatizers and rolls, and they forgot to bring out 3 rolls entirely. Â It wasn't nearly busy enough to excuse that. Â
I thought the rolls were just ok. Â It seemed like every one of them was loaded with the imitation crab meat garbage and had virtually no real fish. Â That irritated me. Â The rolls look great, but the quality of the fish just isn't there.
On the plus side they have great specials on wine and sake.
Went here on a night there was a Groupon. We had a reservation for 7, were not seated until close to 730. The waitress did not come to take drink orders for about 30 minutes. Sushi was ordered but never received nor put in by waitress. The chef was not engaging and did not seem to really care about his job. Â Chef also wasted food and threw scraps on floor. Overall dissatisfied with the experience and will never go back. Food was not good and very overpriced. Would not recommend. Â Credit card charged incorrectly and Groupon amount not taken off correct either.
Review Source:I've only been here twice. The first time we enjoyed it thoroughly! Our cook worked at Beni Hana (pardon the misspelling) for over 10 years, so he knew what he was doing and did it well! All the food was excellent! Second time we were here, however, our cook attempted all the special tricks and sadly, failed. Eventually he quit trying and the entire table just sat there awkwardly quiet until he was done and left. Food was still great, so of course we'll still come back. We still have a few http://restaurant.com gift certificates (cuz we broke!) so now we HAVE to come back, twist twist :)
Review Source:All You Can Eat SUSHI! Â On a Saturday night, it was busy, so if you're looking for a cozy, romantic sushi date, be warned that the tables are very close together and you will overhear the conversation of the three people next you, especially that loud-mouthed foodie wearing a Rosie O'Donnell hat that totes around her own chopsticks and gets excited talking about beef broth. Â I heard my neighbor more often than my fiancee talking.
The sushi is good, loved the King Kong and rainbow rolls. Â The other rolls were nothing notable. Â For $23/person, it's not bad for all you can eat on a Saturday night. Â Some of the rolls on the regular menu aren't included in all you can eat, which was disappointing - they weren't even the special rolls. Â
We had the blueberry lemon and a mango martini - both were fruity, but not too weak on the alcohol. Â
Service was excellent. Â Our order came fast, and water was refilled.
Still, Aodake reigns as my favorite suburban sushi place. Â Better selection, and you don't sit on top of your neighbors.
I would recommend it. But I heard the other location is better(the one in Glendale Heights). The Hibachi chef was lackluster, but the food was good and VERY generous in portion size. The drink selections and straws are unique. The japanese food place down the road kept calling me while I was eating and staring out the window wondering if I made a mistake in Japanese cuisine. I used the Yelp Check-In discount and saved a pretty penny on the bill. I would go back, but AFTER I go to the one in Glendale first.... :)
Review Source:My last visit at Domo 77 was a historical event. Something happened there that has never happened to me before at any establishment--- I sent back a cocktail. I am NOT picky at all when it comes to alcohol, but this was so bad they wouldn't even serve it at a frat party. Come on, Domo!
The rest of the meal was fine, I guess. I used to come here when I was a lot younger and I remember it being really good. Either my standards have just changed dramatically or theirs have, but it is not as good as I remember.
Our table was awkward... the other two parties not only didn't interact with us or the chef, but not even with each other. It was really awkward.
The food was less than mediocre. I told the server and the chef that I am a vegetarian--- I don't know if he thought it was funny or what, but he kept putting meat on my plate and trying to get me to eat it. He also put chicken in the communal fried rice, knowing that I wouldn't eat it. That really pissed me off. I went home hungry.
If we didn't have a Groupon I would have been VERY angry. It is normally so overpriced it's laughable. Since we got a good deal I let all of the issues slide, just knowing that I would never go back.
This place also violates my bendy straw rule. If you serve your drinks with bendy straws, your entrees should not be more than $15 each. Domo's are, and they're in direct violation.
Two stars because I GUESS it's a decent place to bring your family IF you have a Groupon. Kids seems to enjoy it, I know I did when I was a kid.
One of my favorites. I've been coming here (technically, their sister restaurants in Glendale Heights and Wheaton) for probably about 25 years. Â Always one of my favorites. Â I was excited when they opened this location a few years back, as it's much closer to home for me.
The chefs are always top-notch. Â Even though I've seen the routine well over a hundred times by this point in my life, I still love it and still giggle when they make the onion volcano.
Some food-specific tips:
- If you are getting steak, upgrade to the filet mignon. Â The extra 3 bucks or whatever is WELL worth it.
- Ask for French Garlic with your steak. Â They don't always offer it (I think it's technically for the shrimp or lobster dinners), but it's very, very good.
- If you like sushi more than you like cooked food, and the rest of your group likes the cooked food, of course you can still sit at the teppanyaki tables, and they'll bring you your sushi dinner. Â The cook may even throw
some extra fried rice your way. Â :-)
- Their lunch specials are the same portions (minus the cooked veggies and the salad) for about half the price - nice way to save some cash and still have a delicious meal
The only reason I docked them a star is that on more than one occasion, the "specials" they have listed on the door as you walk in are not the same as listed on the actual menu once you sit down. Â And if you ask about it, they will tell you that what is in the menu is what you get (sometimes a few dollars different). Â But, the people are generally very nice. Â As a bonus, they are accommodating to children. Â I usually don't order my 3-year-old her own meal, even a kids meal, because she just doesn't eat that much. Â I usually give her some of mine, as does the rest of the family, and she's fine. Â They still bring her her own soup (with a side bowl of ice, without asking, since the soup is usually VERY hot), and childproofed chopsticks.
You need a Groupon coupon or similar to make this not be horribly overpriced for the value. Service was adequate and the chef was fun to watch. Although we've been to many hibatchi cooktop places, and this time our guy was the least flashy, without much "show". He did flip the fried rice bowls while loaded, which was a good trick. Â We had scallops, chicken, lobster and calamari. The scallops stood out above the others and were very tasty. the calamari did not have rings or tentacles. It looked kinda like a whoopee cushion. It must have been ground up and then recombined, because it wasn't a little chewy as calamari typically is. With the ginger sauce on it, it was ok. Really love their ginger inspired salad dressing.
True story: we were in Daytona Beach at a hibatchi cooktop place. 2 of us, and we got seated with 10 guys from Japan from Yamaha on a business trip, who came in for the motorcycle races at Daytona I guess. We didn't know them of course. One guy was from San Francisco and spoke english, the rest did not. We poured him some of our Sake, and then he poured some for us. We had a nice dinner. The bills came. The one they gave me said $800 and I about crapped my pants. The guy who spoke english and got their bill was laughing, because his bill was $50. I said, "they switched the bills, lets switch them back", He said OK, fine, but then just snatched the bill out of my hand and kept our bill and said, "Hey, It's on Yamaha".
Met up with some friends (and a Groupon) and tried the sushi side of Domo this time around, and I must say we were all rather impressed. The à la carte menu was surprisingly ample, including spider rolls and something affectionately dubbed the M-80. A friend ordered the sashimi & sushi platter, and the delicate preparation and fresh ingredients were secondary only to the taste (and value too).
I highly recommend the non-alcoholic Domo Sunrise, which literally was like, well, a sunrise: the most perfect sunrise cast over the ocean in a tropical paradise with nothing stretched before you but endless summer days and responsibility isn't even a word in your vocabulary. It almost makes my eyes envy my mouth.
I also had the famous Japanese marble soda Ramune, sold here only in its original lemon-lime flavor (fun fact: Ramune comes in such other fun flavors as octopus, kimchi, curry, and wasabi). You simply must buy this beverage for every child who comes here (and children at heart)! It's a joy to pop the marble through the neck of the soda bottle, releasing a cascade of bubbles in its wake before settling into a pleasant groove. You'll have a toy to play with all throughout the evening!
Our waitress was excellent, constantly coming by to refresh our drinks (was she psychic?) and ask if she could offer us anything else. She was never more than a wave away. She even helped me learn how to open my Ramune! Waitresses don't come sweeter or cuter than her. And double bonus: no snark or attitude when I made my reservation or gave them my Groupon! Yay!
My friends and I go to Wheaton location for sushi and we all love that place. Recently all of my friends and I bought Groupon just to use it for sushi at Wheaton, but later we found out that Wheaton sushi bar does not accept Groupon for their sushi, but Aurora location does. So I went to Aurora location and I was disapointed. The menu is completely different, overall sushi quality was lower than Wheaton. Never going back to this location again, even with Groupon.
Review Source:I've tried some other teppenyaki restaurants before, so I had something to compare to when eating here. I was taken here by my cousin who I was visiting in Aurora. Prices were quite up there for dinner, I believe my lobster and calamari dish was somewhere around $34. Of course it includes the salad and rice as well. And I'm not sure why teppenyaki restaurants (not just Domo 77) think 4 pieces of baby shrimp count as a shrimp appetizer.
Anyway, I took the suggestion of my cousin's wife and went with an egg yolk and garlic sauce for the lobster. Umm....I'm not sure about that. Their version of egg yolk and garlic sauce consisted of a huge spoonful of eggyolk and drenched in what appeared to be very ground/fine garlic. Couldn't find my lobster pieces through all that. The calamari was pretty good, although I think I would've liked to have it cooked a little longer. I should have gone with the steak or even the chicken. I do wish they would have offered the option in the beginning between fried rice and steamed rice. I always have that problem with the rice, as it is cooked last and by that time, all your other items are getting cold. I normally just ask for a bowl of steamed rice so they can give it to me as I get the meat.
It was pretty average, chef was somewhat entertaining. Server was nice, kept my drinks refilled. The plus side, they do serve big portions which is very good compared to others I've tried. I don't think I'd choose this restaurant on my own if I come back to visit, unless it's the place of choice for the people I am with.
Our party had a reservation at 7pm and arrived on time. It wasn't until 7:30 until we were seated and by 8:30 we still hadn't even received our salads. The manager seemed apathetic and even after our server told her our entire table was waiting for over an hour, she just brushed it off and walked away without even a word. 8:45 rolled around and still no sign of our chef... our party got fed up, left some money for our drinks and walked out the door.
Can't comment on the food, but the overall atmosphere of this place is definitely sub-par. The menus were dirty and sticky and the air is stuffy. Definitely not what you would expect after eating at places like Kiku just down the street. There are numerous teppanyaki restaurants in the Naperville area so I have no reason to ever go back to Domo.
You know, this ALWAYS happens to me. First time here, and I am seated, apparently, in the only seat where one can feel a cold draft. I wore my coat and gloves the entire time. Did ANY of the staff show any concern for my OBVIOUS discomfort? NO
Did any other person in the restaurant need to wear their coat the entire time? NO
Was there anything outstanding? NO
Yes, the chefs were entertaining, but I want to enjoy my food and that did not happen.
I wish I had something more positive to say.
this review is for the sushi bar only!
we went to the aurora domo 77 expecting it to be similar to the wheaton location we frequent fairly regularly. this domo does offer an all-you-can-eat sushi special, but it is not as great as the wheaton one. for $23.95 you get all you can eat classic rolls, appetizers & nigiri, but no specialty rolls.
we were hungry and wanted some big, tasty specialty rolls (the fire kamikaze is particularly delicious, by the way), so we opted to order a la carte. this may have been a mistake as 4 rolls and a handful of nigiri (like, seriously, four or five pieces of salmon and shrimp) set us back nearly $80 with tax & tip. YIKES.
however, this location definitely beats the other in terms of service; our waitress was really nice & friendly, and our food actually arrived in a timely fashion. hooray! still, for value's sake i will not be dining at the aurora domo again.
what a blazing bargin this place offers for lunch! after a remarkably underwhelming bowl of soup, i was treated to a flashy cooking show, ate a roll of artfully presented sushi, drank several cups of outstanding gunpowder green tea, and slaughtered a mochi. i had at least a pound of hot entree to cart away. i was treating a coworker to lunch, and after all this spent about fourty dollars.
i also witnessed and tasted my first sqid steak. i did not know squid had steaks. i thought they were made of curly bits of deep fried rubber. tasted excellent, like chicken flavored celeriac root. interesting.
So my family and I love Teppanyaki cuisine and we frequent quite a few of the restaurants in this area. Â Domo is like 'Cheers' for us, we are regulars. Â The food is good, the prices are ok, and the atmosphere is comfortable. Â I give them 3 stars because they are A-OK with me!
An average meal for 2 is about 90 dollars including drinks, however if you use http://restaurant.com you can get a great deal!!
Sometimes I get a craving for food that's grilled up in front of me by a trained chef who occasionally throws his cooking utensils up in the air. Â It's a pretty specific craving, I grant you, but every once in a while, it hits me. Â Off to Domo 77!
My boyfriend and I couldn't resist ordering off the sushi menu for an appetizer, and decided on the Fire Kamikaze roll: a spicy tuna roll topped with seared tuna. Â It was delicious. Â The soup and salad that came with the Teppanyaki dinner were so-so, but the appetizer shrimp were quite tasty and served with spicy and sweet and sour dipping sauces.
We were both very happy with our entrees (sea scallops for me and filet mignon for him), which were expertly cooked. Â My one beef would be that the timing on our food was a bit off - I had nearly finished my scallops before the chef even started cooking my boyfriend's filet! Â Saddies. Â I shared my food with him, though, since that's the kind of awesomely generous girlfriend I am. Â The chef was friendly and did some impressive tricks (last time I tried bouncing an egg up in the air with a spatula, things didn't turn out so well). Â With its lighthearted ambiance, I'd recommend Domo 77 for a relaxed date or night out with friends.
Oh, and before I forget:
AN OPEN LETTER TO THE SPOILED BITCH WHO SAT ACROSS FROM ME:
Girl. Â I'm sorry if you had a bad day, but when we have to sit at the same table, you gotta leave that shit at home. Â I know you wanted to sit at your own table with Daddy (since you were AUDIBLY COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS while we were there), but that ain't the way things work at most Teppanyaki restaurants. Â Deal with it. Â Maybe your lobster really was "too cold," but seeing as it came directly off a searing hot grill, I kind of doubt it. Â It was pretty nice of them to bring you a whole new lobster, though; you might consider saying "thank you" next time.
And just so you're aware, Princess, our chef was working his ass off to entertain us, and he was doing a pretty good job of it - constantly rolling your eyes and scowling at him is not an acceptable way to act. You looked to be at least twenty, so you should damn well know better by now. YOU ARE A GROWN-ASS WOMAN. USE SOME GODDAMN MANNERS.
Sincerely,
Michelle
P.S. - Immediately after you left the table, we and the other couple collectively sighed with relief and started laughing. Â Yes, you were THAT obnoxious.
My boyfriend and I love raw fish. Just can't get enough. And I got a coupon in the mailer for "All you can eat sushi $23.95 per person" at Domo 77. We're there!! (Check their web site; they have a lot of coupons, including this same offer for various locations.)
He'd been to the Wheaton location but not this one, in Aurora, which was a bit hard to find. It's not quite on the mall ring road and not quite on Ogden (print a map or take your GPS).
This is a pretty traditional-style building; we were seated near the sushi bar, in the corner of the row of tables along the wall rather than at the actual bar (apparently the bar was reserved, though no one ever came to sit there while we were dining). Because of our tucked-away location, it made it easy for our waitress to sometimes blow by us as she was passing between rooms, or even deal with the table next to us and then turn away without looking at our table to see if we needed a drink refill or another ordering sheet, which got frustrating.
When you order from the All-You-Can-Eat menu, you're given a truncated selection, but it's still quite broad-ranging and incorporates a lot of popular (and tasty rolls) and sashimi options.
We worked through a number of rounds (which you eat off a plate that is supposed to be reminiscent of a mussel shell I believe but is shaped oddly like an outsized human ear...), starting with shrimp shumai (fried shrimp balls) and gyoza as appetizers, both of which were great.
As to the sushi:
- King Kong: funny name, awesome roll. I recommend this the most! Â "Shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, snow crab and avocado roll, lightly battered and fried, with spicy mayo and sweet soy sauce". The size of the roll (like a 50-cent piece) and the fact that they're cut thin makes them a bit unweildy, but so tasty!
- Salmon Skin: salmon skin inside with a whole skinny carrot in the center (oddly) and rice on the outside, this was definitely a crunchy roll.
Sashimi:
- Maguro (tuna): okay, but the Hamachi (yellowtail) was so much better
- Tako (octopus): the first piece we got was just melt-in-your-mouth tender, so we ordered more. These must have come from a different part or a different fish, because they were much tougher (the way you think of octopus). So, a mixed bag.
- Kanikama (crab). So-so.
- Spicy scallop - holy CRAP this was spicy! I do like spicy food but this just about blew my head off.
The kitchen tossed in some little nibbles gratis, like two squares of seared tuna on a bed of vinegared frisee, and some squid salad with the sashimi flight. So that was unexpected, and enjoyable.
As stated, decor was on the traditional side, versus the more slick-looking sushi bars that have been en vogue in recent years. The lighting was dim, but made for a nice dinner with my sweetie. Music was an odd mix of '80s; seemed strangely unsuited to the setting.
Overall, a very nice meal. I'd certainly return, or try its cousin in Wheaton. Domo arigato, Domo 77, for an enjoyable dinner!
I've only had one bad experience from Domo.
And it's from the constant change of waiters. They we're having a hard time getting this location together.
I wen't back since the bad experience, even though they changed the sushi menu and no longer honor my favorite one. But they redeemed themselves. Food is really consistency good.
I have been here twice so far. Â First time was pretty good. Â I had several sushi rolls. Â The second time, I could not get anyone to seat me. Â 20 minutes later, I left after not seeing a single person who worked at the restaurant.
*Since I posted this, the owner reached out to me to apologize for my bad experience. Â This kind of customer service is very rare now-a-days, and I appreciate the effort they made.
We ended up here on Valentines Day because it was the only place we could get a reservation last minute and we now know why! This was hands down the worst dining experience we've ever had, making us wish we had just stayed home and ordered in.
Granted, a holiday puts a restaurant to the test, but having worked in a restaurant for 8 years, I know that a good managment team can keep their act together even under the busiest conditions. Domo should not take resevations if they cannot handle the process.
We were seated for an hour and fifteen minutes before seeing soup, salad or appetizers. We go for sushi often but since we were on the grill side of the restaurant decided to start with just a simple California roll as an appetizer....big mistake! We were served a bizarre roll with a creamy crab salad and brown mushy avocado in the center. They replaced it for us 20 minutes later, and the crab salad in the roll proved to be as unappetizing as we thought it would.
Our filet and scallop meal was flavorless, with some of the scallops and vegetables burned. One of the "fun" parts of going to a place like this is for the "show" that the cook performs...ours skipped many of the fun and flashy methods and hurried us through...probably so the next table would not sit with only drinks for over an hour.
We will NEVER return here, and feel cheated that we used a precious evening out without kids on such a bad experience. If you are in the Naperville/Aurora area, go to Kiku instead!!
It has been about 7 months since I visited this establishment. I always love the hibachi. The food was good, however the waiter was not so good. He messed up our bill 3 times. I really don't want to blame Domo because everything else was really good. ( he just might have been having a bad day).
Review Source:Domo 77 is an OK, average hibachi restaurant. Â Restaurant was opened in 2006, and the outside looks newer than the inside hibachi area feels. Â Tables are smallish, but the 2 x 3 x 2 seating is comfortable, more so than some other hibachi places. Â The cook served the meat/shrimp before the veggies, which is reverse of most places - not a biggie, but not our preferred order either. Â Driver for us was the 1,000 point Open Table reservation, and it's also now part of http://restaurant.com listings.
Review Source:I had my 21st birthday party here before I went out for the night. I had an awesome experience. They recently upgraded their sushi menus and let me just say WOW. It is delicious. I ordered their filet and shrimp combo. I loved it, I had a good time also because I was with all my friends. It was a really good experience having a few drinks and the servers and chef were great also. I would recommend people to have their birthday parties here all the time. I know I am going to go back next year and do the same exact thing.
Review Source:AWESOME place if you really like hibachi. Â I also LOVE sushi, but I think their sushi is pretty bland, and not at all that good. Â Their garlic breading is phenomenal! Â I usually get the shrimp and lobster combo, but I have also gotten their filet mignon. Â I've never been let down one time with the taste. Â The cooks are usually friendly and very entertaining, I've only gotten a cook who wasn't very talkative once or twice, but they weren't rude or anything. Â Everyone is very, very nice there. Â I've only been treated very rudely by a lady who was cleaning off our table as we were sitting down, and I think she had become angry with the hostess who sat us (maybe too soon), and she started whipping things off the table. Â She actually spilled my brand new drink I had just gotten from the bar and yelled at my for setting it down on the table (even though she had finished cleaning our half of the table). Â However, this was the only time I have experienced something like this. Â I saw her a couple of times after that and she just never looked happy, so I think that is just how she generally is.
The one word of advice I will offer is DO NOT go there on Valentine's day!! Â They have NO idea what they are doing when it comes to reservations, or dealing with accommodating many customers at the same time. Â It had to be one of my top 5 worst experiences. Â I had made reservations for 7:00pm for my ex-gf and I. Â We get there 20 minutes early. Â We stood there looking for someone for about 40 minutes (no host, no hostess, no managers, absolutely no one was standing up front). Â Whenever a server or cook, or anyone who didn't belong up front would come up front to grab a menu or something they would be mobbed with people, and look like a deer caught in headlights, I actually felt bad for them. Â FINALLY, after about waiting for 45 minutes we see a manager, well now about 50 people are trying to "check in" with her, and it is nearly impossible to get close to her. Â She gets so over whelmed with trying to figure out who has reservations, who doesn't, what time everyone has them at, and so on that she just starts seating whoever. Â Basically, about 3 couples who walked in about 10 minutes ago (a good 45 after we did), all get seated instantly. Â Then she tells everyone to move into this room they have over to the left, and she would start calling people from there. Â Well we finally figure out she was once again just seating whoever jumped up the fastest, she had no idea who was there first or had reservations first, and didn't care. Â We basically had to push our way through this line to get up front and get seated after waiting almost 2 hours! Â It was absolutely terrible. Â I have never experienced anything like it, so I have and will keep going back even after that experience, because I do love the food, and it is usually never that crazy!
This is a DARK restaurant. I walked in from an exceptionally sunny day into what I would consider excessively dim lighting. My eyes took a while to adjust ! Â I wasn't asked whether I was interested in just sushi or hibachi and was seated at the hibachi. As soon as the waitress came by I explained I was just interested in sushi so I was asked to step across to the sushi bar area.
The sushi chef was a great conversationalist and made the experience of eating at this restaurant worth my while. He even made some seaweed salad and provided me a little soy dish of specially-made spicy mayo on the side to dip my rolls into.
They have a good variety of food, including hibachi cooking in the...yes, hibachi room. ;o) I found the place extremely dimly lit (the most dimly lit restaurant I've been in since the melting pot in Philly) and a little in disarray, particularly my waitress...with a lack of another option I would consider going back to have some sushi to again hang out w/ the sushi chef.
Good adult libation menu. There were some specials listed on a board by the host desk but I didn't look closely, I did see something about mochi ice cream though--which I plan to more closely inspect on my next visit.
Typical Hibachi/Sushi restaurant. Good sushi (better than Benihana) and good hibachi. Â Nice atmosphere and pleasant service. I had a nice time but I really felt like I was rushed. I was still eating my sushi appetizer when the cook was putting my entree on my plate. When I go to a place that is all about the experience I like to sit back and savor the experience. I walked out of there wondering what just happened.
The grill was a lot smaller than other hibachi places I have been to which made more room to cram in more tables. But overall, the place was big.
P.S. If you dont like rubbery/slimy goo in your mouth, then stay away from the Mochi ice cream.
I took a first date here a few weeks ago. Â My only gripe is that it is very loud in the room (I've heard that the other locations aren't as loud).
We had the steak, shrimp and scallops (we shared everything). Â I thought the food was outstanding. Â Because they cook it right in front of you, it is all very fresh. Â There is something to be said about seeing the food cooked to your liking right in front of you. Â Granted, you pay a bit of a premium for this, but it's worth the entertainment! Â You'll definitely won't leave hungry, they give you quite a bit of food.
It's a fun place for a first date. Â Check it out!
We went here for the first time with 8 adults and 5 kids. I was surprised at the amount of families in here, mostly do to the cost.
It was fun, but I really didn't think any of the food was outstanding.
My meal was steak, chicken and shrimp for $27.95. If you look at it as $16.00 in food and $12,00 in entertainment I guess it's more justifiable. The kids table bill was $98.00, the adults was $350.00, pre-tip. (yes, there was some beer on that one)
One of those places you have to try once, maybe again with a few freinds. Not a place I would return to on a regular basis.
If I could I would give it more like 3.5 stars.
I haven't actually dined in at this restaurant yet - which is a new location for Domo 77 - but I regularly order take out from their sushi bar, which opens at 3PM. The service is prompt and the sushi selection is quite tasty, though not quite as expansive as I'd like. Their selection of maki is also reasonably priced and pretty decent.
I'd rather drive my ass out to Bob San for a nice sushi dinner in the city, but I can't say I have any complaints about picking my lunch up here. Yum yum.
