Drivers Sports Cafe is the biggest dive bar in Johnson County. It is run by the son of the owner who lives in in Emporia and is never in the bar and a friend of the son named Pete. The bar has dark tint on the windows giving off a bad vibe that keeps most people away. This bar has fierce competition in the area. There are no lights on the patio so it looks closed at night. There is no one in there for lunch and on any given week night you are lucky to find more than 5 customers in there. The female bartenders are often left alone at night for hours at a time. Jeb is the owners son and he is a nice guy but is only in there during the day. Pete is his partner and runs the bar at night. The bar is only busy during the Chiefs and K State game. When Pete is there he is normally extremely intoxicated. He puts on rap music on the juke box that is degrading to women with the "N" word in it. He often shouts the F bomb across the bar with total disregard for the customers. He leaves his female bartenders in there for hours at a time by themselves! On a recent week-end night there was the bartender and one customer in there from 9:30 pm until 12:30 am until Pete came in drunk in a cab with five of his extremely intoxicated friends. He started yelling at the bartender to call her friends to get some people in there. They do no advertising and he thinks it is the responsibility of the bartender to bring customers into the bar. Patrons often argue and shout at the top of their lungs and use the F bomb, the N word among others. On a recent night Pete and the cook named Phil who was behind the bar were playing spin the bottle and took their shirts off. How this place stays in business I will never know.
Yummy! Went here w/ a friend from work for a quick lunch- just a perfect, inexpensive lunch for a gal who needs some good grease. Â I'm sure there are healthy things to order on the menu, but we didn't choose them! Â I had the special-chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes and gravy and all were fabulous and the entire meal including a diet soda was 8.50! Â Super filling (I shouldn't have eaten the whole thing, but couldn't stop myself) and super satisfying! Â My co-worker had a cheeseburger and fries and said they were great as well. Â The owner seemed very nice and friendly and our waitress was a doll. Def. going back for happy hour on Friday!
Review Source:I would give it two, but BF thought it was great, so I will compromise. Â This was the second stop on our JoCo mini-crawl. Â We decided to try bars we had never visited. Â I always feel the need to go to KCMO to find a bar I like, and I tend to bad-mouth JoCo options. Â That isn't nice of me, as I live in OP, so I want to support my peeps more than I have been. Â
Drivers is full of realllly loud, drunk people of all ages. Â Maybe this is because it was after midnight and they had been drinking much longer than I had. Â Or maybe it annoyed me more because the lights were much too bright for a bar, so I perceived everything with annoyance. Â One thing I appreciate is that the patrons were not all "pretty " people. Â I think all kinds are welcome here, and that makes me feel happy. Â Also, the bartenders are friendly and attentive. Â
They have a pool table. Â They have a juke box. Â They have a lot of televisions. Â And they oddly but awesomely have on tap. . .Widmer and Shock Top White Belgian alongside the crappy domestic selection! Â BF lovvves Widmer, so this alone will bring us back. Â
I didn't love it. Â I didn't hate it. Â Meh.
Worst service ever. Our server/bartender acts like we are bothering him. Â He may want to rethink his line of work. Â One of the worst experiences at a bar ever. If the owner wants to stay in business he may want to rethink his staffing choices. Â It was so bad it inspired me to join Yelp just to tell people to aviod it.
Review Source:Drivers is one of those bars that I wish was within walking distance of my home. It's one of those places where a beer after work can easily turn into 3 or 4 beers after work. It's a typical sports bar, with several flat screen tvs and sports memorabilia, customers who look like "regulars", and decent bar food. Â Drivers has daily food and drink specials, once we got in on a $5.00 burger and fry special, and both were fantastic. Â As Dev mentioned in his review, the owners are really great and accommodating.
Review Source:Drivers recently opened in Old Overland Park, right behind Mr. Gyros. Â I was skeptical at first, but it's actually a good setup and not exactly like it's neighbors in the Other Place and Maloneys.
Big plus here is the guy that runs it, Pete, is very welcoming and seems to sincerely care about his patrons. Â You want the Royals game on a specific TV? Â Done. Â Is your waitress too busy to get you your check when you are ready to leave? Â Pete will take care of you.
They have great, great homemade tacos on Tuesday. Â I didn't think they were going to blow me away, but they did. Â It's a family recipe, and I've never had anything like them. Â Deep fried flour tortilla filled with seasoned ground beef, crushed tomatoes, lettuce and cheese. Â Bueno!
There is a lot of open space here, they have had a few bands and DJ's come through. Â Hopefully it can turn into a good dance spot in old OP.
