I like the space. Â Duos has a very nice patio area with plenty of seating and even though it is right next to the road, the walls seem to muffle the noise a bit. Â It would be great for a evening happy hour on a nice day. Â The interior is broken up in to odd spaces and I am not sure why, but it seems to work. Â
They seem to have a limited selection of libations at the bar, but the staples are there. Â I wasn't sure who the bartender was as there were a few people mixing and serving for such a small place. Â
The food had highs and lows. Â The portions were good for the prices. Â The corn dogs are great. Â You get 5 minis for $4. Â They are a perfect little snack. Â The calamari was no good. Â It was cut into thick rings and was very rubbery. Â The cauliflower and Dungeness gratin dip was good, but it was a bit oily and could have used a little more seasoning or spice, it was a little one note. Â
The service was friendly and prompt.
It would be a place I would try if I were in the W. Seattle area.
I've been here about 3-4 times now and felt a review was in order.
This is my kind of place!
Cool, friendly, knowledgable staff; very relaxed, stylish decor; with private, cozy seating areas; a drinker's selection of liquors at the bar; a great little patio; garage doors that go up in nice weather and some of the best appetizers I've had in a really long time. I really love this place.
As in other reviews the apps I've tried here are amazing; the sliders rock! corn dogs-delicious. Buddha roll-amazing. calamari-fantastic. etc. etc.
This place really is a must do.
The restaurant also has a wonderful, quiet seating area to the back with a table that would be perfect for a nice dinner for 8 (but could probably seat up to 20)?
If their restaurant/bar is this good, they would be a definite first choice for a catered event.
Cannot recommend highly enough.
I came in on Sunday for brunch with friends. They have a beautiful patio but the weather was iffy so we sat inside. The interior space is great, and it's roomy, no squeezing your way between narrow table gaps just to sit down.
I got the pork chile verde. Tortillas were warm and soft, pork was delicious and tender, egg was over easy with a nice orange yolk. My friends got the steak and eggs and the pork loco moco. I stole a bite of each: The steak and eggs was good  though I'm not really a steak and eggs kinda guy. The pork loco moco, on the other hand, was amazing - super smoky and the gravy was fantastic. My chile verde was great but I know what I'm getting next time.
Ambience was great, service was great, but really I'm giving five stars because of the food quality. I feel like Seattle has this glut of brunch places that succeed mostly because they're social opportunities, or habitual for people, or just because they have the momentum of their reputation, but the food is mediocre, adequate, and people shrug it off - "Food's fine, I just come here every week after my morning run with friends" or whatever. Enough! I want delicious food for brunch as much as I do for dinner.
Duos is one of very few places in Seattle where the brunch food is really truly excellent.
wow, the food here is amazingly great. came here for brunch and walked away full, satisfied and content.
ordered the chicken and waffles and every bit about it was amazing - the waffles, the chicken and the honey all worked well together to delight the taste buds. the service was attentive and the restaurant itself was nicely decorated.
slight wait to get seated, but hey it was busy on a sunday morning for brunch, guess it means the food is great and the other people are right. will definitely come back again.
oh my gosh, i have been so slow to review one of my absolutely favorite new joints - duos lounge. Â they started out as an awesome catering company and moved their way into the restaurant biz.
let's start with the ambiance. Â it's cute, trendy, but laid back. Â you seat yourself and they have random couches or tables to hang out at. Â when someone says trendy, you might think pretentious, but not here. Â you'll find families and they make you all feel so welcomed. Â there's also a gorgeous patio with sliding wall (formerly a garage door) that they open on those beautiful sunny seattle days.
now on to the food. Â it's all rock your world delicious, but please whatever you do, do yourself a favor and order the sliders. Â hell, order double the order because you'll want it. andddd they have happy hour. Â anddddd they even have happy hour on saturday!!! Â andddddd they just started brunch which is AMAZING!!! Â i've tried almost everything on it, but my 2 favs are the chicken and waffles and steak and eggs. Â their brunch portions are huge too!!!
i don't normally call out yelpers, but man to the girl who said using ipads to order is pretentious...wow. what century do you live in???? Â get with the times girl. Â it's smart and effective and places in renton even use that method. Â i get if someone has a complaint about service, but bashing a place who uses ipads to take down orders, really??? not cool dood.
check out my pictures, you won't be disappointed in this place.
As someone that has gotten extremely tired of the traditional West Seattle bar circuit, this is a very welcome addition, and does an excellent job at providing a comfortable unique experience in the area. Â The food does feel slightly limited, but everything that our group order was good, and the service was timely. Â Management and staff were both excellent, and provided very personable service. Â Loved all of the above.
My only complaint is that the cocktail menu is extremely unappealing to my tastes. Â I love going through the drink menus at a place and ordering new things. Â I know that some people love gin, bourbon, and bitters. Â I, unfortunately, am not one of them.
Oh yum yum yum. This place is gooooooooooooooooooooood. First of all, they had a kick ass old school band playing when we went on a Thursday night. Which is rad.
Small plates that rock my world! I've heard that everything is delicious but we tried:
-Sliders (2)- tender, juicy, cooked to perfection, homemade bun and served with crispy shoestring fries
-Lumpia Stack- YUM, pretty legit lumpia, crisp, meaty and decent size.
-Mini Corn Dogs (5)- GOODNESS ME OH MY- this is the stuff dreams are made of! Not your typical corn dog. Homemade, quality meat and in a delectable honey mustard sauce, if I hadn't been in a public place I might have licked the bowl.
Now I see they are serving brunch and starting Happy Hour... You know I will be back!
Went here for the first time tonight and it was soooo good. The food is very creative and flavorful. Our favs were the Asparagus salad and Lumpia Stack and the Gerard and Dominque Smoked Salmon. Good wine list and beer selection. The servers were friendly and attentive. Overall I give a two thumbs up!
Review Source:The food is good but for such a limited menu, it takes way too long to be delivered. Also, the iPad ordering system is out of place in West Seattle. Maybe that kinda pretention flies in Bellevue or Belltown, but it just doesn't fit here. I will try Duos again, but I won't arrive with such high expectations.
Review Source:For Tapas the menu is somewhat limited. Â There are only 3-4 items that are suitable to share with a group. Â The sliders are very expensive for what you get. Â Come on, $9 for two sliders and a palmful of frites. Â Servicer were nice. Â Bartender/owner? was little on the quiet side but helpful. Â Overall i think the food is good. Â Except for the calamari, the rest of plates were a little on the spendier side for the amount of food you actually get. Â They need a couple larger plates that can be shared more easily for a group on 5-6. Â Hopefully they do well as i only live down the street.
Review Source:Been several times now, and I guess I have to admit that this place simply rocks. Â I've seen several establishments come through this building, but this is the first that not only receives consistently positive reviews from others, Â but also receives consistently positive reviews from me.
Perfect atmosphere (can't wait for summer when the outdoor terrace and the "garage door" wall are open), great food (yes yes - sliders and corn dogs are a must), solid cocktails, friendly, consistent service and awesome prices just keep me coming back.
If it's your thing, definitely give the calamari a try as well. Â Brunch and happy hour are apparently on the way as well. Â Can't wait :-)
Keep doing what you're doing Duos!
This place is so cute and tiny! The staff was very friendly and attentive. Great service!
Lumpia stack was good. Small and crispy. The dipping sauce is so good.
Corn dogs were delicious. I was surprised because I didn't think I'd like it as much as I did.
Beef sliders were really tasty, but the frites were too thin and crispy for me. The frites were really thin and skinny chips basically.
Kimchee rice was ok. I didn't like the sauce they put at the bottom of the dish. I think it would taste better without the sauce.
Seared scallop was ok. They only give one little scallop.
I would like to come back and try some other items on the menu.
What a great addition to West Seattle. Duos is both trendy and unassuming, casual yet upscale, unique but not kitschy. I've been here three times now, and on each visit the menu has gotten larger and better. This is a small plates restaurant, so if you're looking for a one-and-done Cheesecake Factory serving, this may not be the place for you. However, that doesn't mean you won't leave stuffed--it just means you have the opportunity to try a ton of dishes!
My favorites are the cauliflower and Gruyere crab dip, the apple salad, the seared sea diver scallop, and a crab cake/shrimp and mussel special. I haven't eaten red meat in years, but I sneaked a bite of the beef sliders (under the influence of their terrific wine selection, of course) and nearly renounced pescetarianism. There are several vegetarian dishes--certainly enough to fill up veggie diners, but I hope they continue to add more as they develop the menu. Also, the table water is flavored with cucumbers and is delicious; apparently some diners have been sending it back because it "tastes funny." For shame!
There are couches, sofas, a community table, standard dining tables, and a couple of flat screens playing whatever game is on, and right now it's operating as a seat-yourself, casual establishment. The staff has been all about our comfort, and they always encourage us to stay as long as we like. If you're expecting your drink order to be taken immediately, again, this may not be the place for you. But if you want to have a relaxing time and enjoy lots of amazing food served by thoughtful, friendly staff, I can't think of a better West Seattle spot!
Met some friends here last night and left astonished over how delicious and original the food was. I had the sliders and corn dogs, but to call them just "sliders" and "corn dogs" doesn't do them justice. These were little bites of hot flavor bombs detonating in my mouth (sorry, that sounded kind of gross). Seriously, each bite was met with an eye-rolling-back "Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm". The only downside was that the portions were a little small, but then again, I'm a big, fat, gluttonous American so I should just shut up. Besides, it's always good to leave people wanting more, right? Service was excellent. Layout was fun (we ate at one of their couch and coffee table set-ups). Listen up fellas, this would make a killer date place.
Review Source:Been here 3 times. The first time, it was a pretty good experience. Good food and drinks. The service was okay.
Second time, we were seated on one of the couches. Unfortunately, after getting waters and waiting for 15 minutes, no one came back to take our orders. So we went to sit at the bar. It still took a bit of time to get our orders in there. After we got our drinks and had finished them for a bit of time, the bartender still hadn't gotten back  to see if we wanted food or more drinks. It wasn't busy at the time, so I'm not sure the cause of this. There was only one other couple seated at the bar and I noticed they had to flag the bartender down to put in their food order.
So by the time we were able to get the bartender's attention, we had decided to just skip the food and anymore drinks and settle the tab. Just chalk it up to an off night.
Third time we go there - we sit down at a table in the bar area this time, since there were no available seats at the bar. Service starts off fine. The owner/bartender seems nice enough at first.
We have a few rounds of drinks. We order a third round, my wife asks for suggestions from them on wine and settles on something they suggest and I order a cocktail. One of the waitstaff that actually hasn't been waiting on us up to this point took this order and was very cordial. He tells me that the cocktail is on its way as he drops off the wine.
The cocktail never comes and eventually, we have to leave for another engagement so we just ask for the bill.
The bill charges us for the cocktail we never got so I bring this to our attention. The cordial waiter, Tyler, handles it well and lets us know it was taken off the bill but we could still get it on the house. I decline since we have to leave.
The owner/bartender then brings over the corrected bill without saying a word. I put my credit card with the bill and it sits there for about 10 minutes. Owner/bartender comes by and picks up the card from a couple a few tables over, talking to them, etc. He runs their card & delivers the bill to sign, saying thanks, etc. They sign it and leave.
Owner/bartender comes by a bit later and picks up my card without saying a word again. Okay, he doesn't say anything to us, that's a little weird but fine.
He then puts my card and bill on the bar and takes off somewhere for a few minutes. At that point, I lose track of whatever he is doing. But a bit later, I see him walking towards us with what looks to be a bill holder for me to sign off on the charge. Instead of dropping it off at my table, he goes to the recently vacated table and places it ON TOP OF THE BILL THE OTHER COUPLE HAD SIGNED A BIT AGO. He put it at a table that was empty! Â He then goes back behind the bar and glimpses over at me real quick.
I'm thinking 'No way did he just accidentally put our bill at another table on top of another bill that was already signed.' How do you accidentally do that? But hell, who knows, maybe it was some weird restaurant thing I don't know about - maybe it was legitimately some bill for that empty table.
So at this point, I have to get up and ask where my bill is to sign and he acts surprised and goes get it from the other empty table.
I don't know what that whole weird ritual with the bill was. At best, the owner/bartender is really, really forgetful. At worst, he's trying to send us some passive aggressive message that he doesn't appreciate our business. That pretty much did it for me and I was pissed.
For me, message received - I won't be coming back and will let everyone I know about the weird treatment we got.
I guess at least the waitperson, Tyler, stayed cordial the whole time - saying that he hoped we had a great time and will come back (as I was getting out as fast as I could).
Sorry Tyler - we didn't have a great time and won't come back. If your boss continues with his weird behavior, Duos will go the way the last 2-3 restaurants at that location did.
I'm going to throw my 30th birthday here! Great small plates and tapas lounge right off the West Seattle Bridge on Avalon Way.
The interior is a cozy, modern/industrial space with lots of candles and a jazz band on some nights.
My favorites on the menu are their sliders with a potato brioche bun and their mini corn dogs with a honey mustard and chipotle dipping sauce. They have a specialty cocktail list with their own creations and twists on the standards.
Great place to bring a date or friends and just catch up!
I almost don't want to write this review, because I'm afraid word will get out about how awesome this place is, and I'll never be able to get a table. So let's just keep it between us, okay? It'll be our little secret. :)
First, the atmosphere is great. The restaurant is refreshingly spacious, and the seating areas aren't all too close together. Several areas have a "living room" kind of feel, where you and your dining companions can sit on loveseats around a low table. It's all very relaxed and informal, yet still intimate.
The dishes at Duos are simple but impeccable. My favorites were the corn dogs (!!) in a fresh corn batter and drizzled with a chipotle honey mustard. I also really liked the sliders, which were topped with an amazing bacon/onion jam. The tagliatelle was also amazing: perfectly aldente, with a smoked prosciutto ragu. Each dish was perfect to share between two people, maybe three max. Love the inventive cocktail list, too. Best yet, the prices are very reasonable for the ambience and quality of the food. My husband and I shared six dishes and the bill came out to only $66, including drinks! We'll definitely be back to Duos; I can certainly see us eating here a lot.
Love this place! The service was great both times we've been, first from Tyler and then from Stacey, both very attentive and helpful with the menu. The ambiance is chill and comfortable. The food is outstanding...we tried one of nearly everything on the menu and were happy with every item. Â I'd say that our favorites were the corndogs, kimchi rice, and gnocchi. Â The owners, Ben and Josh, stopped by to introduce themselves and ensure we were having a great time. So glad West Seattle has Duos!
Review Source:This is a great little spot in West Seattle to check out. Â It is really filling a niche missing in West Seattle, a laid back lounge atmosphere that is great for groups and meeting up with friends. Â The menu features some outstanding small plates. Â My personal favorites are the calamari, crab cauliflower dip, sliders, and kimchi rice. Â But really I haven't had a bad item from the menu. Â They also serve this crazy waffle with salted caramel sauce and vanilla gelato. Â The service is very attentive and they have a full bar including beers on tap and wines by the glass. Â Run, don't walk to Duos for a great evening out!
Review Source:West Seattle always surprises me with its charming little spots and Duos lounge is no exception. The lounge itself is open and inviting while managing to feel cozy and I like the seat-yourself aspect, although it makes it slightly difficult to get service in a timely manner. Their menu is an array of small plates that really serve as tastes of what they have to offer (read: portions are comically small), which is a positive because you get to try a lot of things, but also disappointing if you want a chance to actually feel sated. The corndogs are phenomenal; if I could only recommend one menu item then I'd tell you to ask for 3 orders of those and some drinks. Other things we tried:
- seared diver scallop
- kimchi rice
- truffle gnocchi
- speck tagliatelle
- calamari
- lumpia stack
- cauliflower and gruyere crab dip
The lumpia were cute, crunchy, and probably the largest amount of food in any given serving at the establishment. I wasn't a huge fan of the gnocchi or tagliatelle so I'd advise to shy away from the pasta offerings; the gnocchi was not pillowy soft the way I expect most gnocchi to be and the truffle sauce pales in comparison to the truffle gnocchi at List. The tagliatelle came with a ragu-like sauce with a lot of flavour, but the pasta itself left something to be desired (it was harder than al dente and hard to eat). Kimchi rice had excellent flavour and so did the crab dip. These were probably my two other favourites on the menu.
Duos would make an excellent neighbourhood spot if I lived in the area, but the tiny portions are not a compelling reason to go out of my way to return. If I find myself nearby someday it will definitely be among my top choices for something light.
I sometimes wish that there were more than 5 stars for places that are this perfect. Â My girlfriends and I were out for my Birthday and decided to end the night close to home. Â I've been walking by Duos with my dog for months, and have loved watching everything evolve from a run-down old bar to a beautiful, comfortable, warm and welcoming space. Â We walked in with the intent of grabbing one last drink, then head home to watch movies... We instead closed the place down.
We were lucky enough to meet Joshua and Benjamin (the owners), who welcomed us with the warmth of an old friend showing you their new home. Â Our waiter Tyler was delightful and attentive and Marcus (the bartender) was working some magic behind that beautiful wood bar. Â We scored a couch area and it felt just as comfortable as home (albeit more beautifully decorated and better lit).
The kitchen was closed by the time we got there, but Tyler brought us some menus to look at... What surprised me is the depth of the menu-- Everything from corn dogs to a dish with Quail egg... I can't wait to go back and start working my way through that menu. Â Even with the kitchen being closed though, they did bring us a delicious chili-lime type of "pub mix" that was definitely not the kind you buy at Costco-- Pecans, Brazil nuts, Chinese noodles... Yum.
Their drink menu is equally diverse without being overwhelming. Â Their "house" liquors are high-quality and well drinks are $5 all the time-- Who needs happy hour? Â
Overall, if you're looking for a place to grab a drink and/or a bite in West Seattle, it doesn't get better than this! Â Even if you don't live in West Seattle, it's right off of the bridge-- So any attempt to blame the drive is null : p. Â
Welcome to the neighborhood Duos! Â We are SO glad to have you!
The atmosphere in this place is great. Â The lighting is lovely and it has a mix of tables and lounge areas. The food was was really amazing and well priced.
I really liked our waiter, he was nice and informative, and he did a great job. It did take about 15 minutes for him to take our order (both drink and food). I think maybe hiring another waiter or having to host take the drink orders might help...the waiter just seemed like he was super busy.
But food made me forget all about the momentary frustration of being hungry/thirsty and wanting the waiters attention. It was amazing. Even the items I was skeptical about turned out to be a treat.
Seriously, come with friends and order one (or two) or everything on the menu.
So this was the first we ate at duo. We walked in and to our surprise the place was much bigger then the photos on line so we were seated quickly. We started with drinks and then we ordered food. Went with a small order of food because we were not sure what to expect. Then after we got our food twe ended up ordering one of everything twice. The food was awsome and loved it all. We had such a great time. It is a great place to eat and it is one of the few places in seattle where even when its busy you can hear one another talk. Great place. Will go back often.
Review Source:We ate at Duos last week and had a wonderful time! Â There were six of us, and we are quite a handful. Â Our waitress was really sweet and the bartender was incredible. Â He came to our table (couch, chairs and coffee table - love the setting!) and engaged each of us. Â He surprised us with cocktails that were a hit and kept us ordering more. Â Benjamin and Joshua both came over and were delightful. Â It was a busy night, yet they acted like we were the only customers in the place. Â Very genuine, and they clearly love what they do. Â Last, but certainly not least, the food was incredible! Â Each dish was spot on, and we ordered multiples of everything on the menu. Â We will be back many, many times. Â Thank you for opening a storefront!
Review Source:Great vibe here! Â Nothing pretentious or over the top. Very friendly staff and service. The food was excellent and the wine was equally good and very reasonably priced. Â Can't wait to go back and hang at the bar for a bit to sample some of their interesting drinks off the cocktail menu!
We are VERY glad to see this new addition to West Seattle!
These guys have perfectly hit the mark with Duos. It brings to the area a laid back lounge atmosphere where friends can gather.
I have only sat in the bar, but the service and knowledge that Marcus and the other bartenders provide is reason enough to check this place out. The drinks are innovative and well balanced, without being pretentious. I hesitate to call them "craft" cocktails because you won't find them lighting things on fire or using ridiculous garnishes. Instead they use high quality spirits and liqueurs to create delicious cocktails at a reasonable price point that people will surely enjoy.
There small plates great for sharing and appeal perfectly to someone like me who wants a bite of everything. Highlights were the fresh crusted corn dogs with chipotle honey mustard and the grass-fed beef sliders with applewood-smoked bacon, Tillamook cheddar, and onion jam. I honestly can't wait to go back and eat my way through the rest of the menu though. This is a must visit spot for foodies or people who just want a great spot to hang out.
