Congratulations to me....I drunkenly purchased Bulls tickets because of Foley's.  Way to go bar, way to go.  You see though, that's how I know I had a good night.  Doing something stupid and not even regretting it.

It's a dive.  There are clearly regulars (shoot, I came because my friend is one, or was one.)  The bar is small and there are TVs.  3 beers on tap, drinks are cheap and it's cash only.  What else do you need to know?

You'll have a tough time getting me to rag on a dive bar, unless it smells, but Foley's does not smell.

One of my new favorite dive bars!  I bowl on a league at the bowling alley next door so we stopped in after one night to check it out.  A very small bar made up of regulars, but cozy and welcoming with a jukebox playing good music all evening.  There was even a free food buffet on the Sunday we came in.  The manager is a great guy who right away introduced himself and bought us a round of shots while we chatted about the game.  The one downside is it is cash only but there is an ATM inside.  If you are looking for a cozy, nofrills bar with great people and cheap drinks, definitely check this place out!

Foleys is a great place to drink on Thursdays.  We watch Wipeout.  Drink here with the regulars and enjoy it.  They really are friendly if you say hi.  Also, bring your own food if you need to eat.  It is definitely a Cheers kinda place.  There really isn't anything fancy here, but it gets the job done.  See you there!

I've walked by this place a bazillion times and there always seems to be people in there so when Mr. Quinn and I were looking for someplace to grab a quick nightcap, I suggested we try Foley's. I'm not a big fan of hitting new bars all by my lonesome, so I was glad to have the opportunity to check it out.

Oh man, I am glad I didn't come here by myself. We walked in the door and it's like everyone stopped and stared at us. I get that it's a locals bar but I felt like a new attraction at the zoo. We ordered a couple of beers, grabbed a seat at the bar top and immediately, one of the other patrons started chatting us up. Once Mr. Quinn excused himself to go to the men's room, I swung my legs around to face the horseshoe bar and the five or six guys sitting there just stopped and looked at me, until I smiled sheepishly and waved. ::think of a distraction, Amanda!::

"This is the best country song ever written."

This was met with whoops of approval as Mr Quinn returned from the washroom. We quickly finished our beers and got out.

I guess if you're a regular, it's a fine bar. For the outsiders, it was a little like walking into a scene from the Hills Have Eyes -- something I didn't realize was possible in Chicago.

I've been here twice and really wanted to like this place, but last night proved otherwise.

A few months ago, I had been bar-hopping and exploring the area with a friend. We popped into Foley's since it wasn't packed and the drinks were cheap. The bartender was nice and friendly and we had a good time. I could tell it was a locals bar.

Last night, a few friends mentioned wanting to try that bar so we went after dinner. There were four of us (two guys, two girls). The locals did nothing but make fun of the drinks we ordered. We aren't the types to order fancy foo foo drinks either! I had a 7&7 while the others had whisky on the rocks and a rum and coke. one guy said "Wow I didn't know they served that kind of stuff and I've been coming here for years! HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAA!" ::high fives his lame friend::

Speaking of my 7&7....the female bartender made with RUM! wtf?! We left after one drink since the locals didn't seem to want us there. I will not be returning. that is a shame because this place seemed like a nice dive bar!

Do not go unless you are the hillbilly type.

This place ought to be called "Tits and Darts".

One of the TV's in the back had some Girls Gone Wild sh-t playing, and the touch-screen game in the front was full of porny games. And they had darts.

    Perfectly acceptable dive bar otherwise.

We like to come here after bowling on occassion; drink specials are decent, great jukebox, and they have darts.  It is a smaller bar though.

To quote one my pals; "This is a drinkin' bar".

This place does not match any of my requirements for being a bar I like to go to but I have to give Foley's credit as I've consistently had fun here.  So there's nothing special going on here.  It is a tiny dive that fits maybe 30 people comfortably and that's assuming you aren't taking advantage of the free darts.  They only have about three taps, 312 being the best thing on any of them and they have your average range of bottles.

So maybe I'm just not used to patronizing "regulars" bars but the charm of Foley's lies in the time spent there with the people.  You'll hopefully meet a couple of the folks who frequent the place and if someone isn't chatting with you about any of the sports on TV, then there's usually other good fodder.  Marlena is an excellent bartender and you might want to watch out if you buy her a shot because she just might buy you one and then next thing you know you wake up alone next to a half eaten burrito and your clothes half on.

Yeah, there is a lack of the usual things that make this a strong attraction for me to make this my destination for the night but if you end up here, you could do much much worse.  Plus, the drinks are cheap.

Have to agree with Gail. This place is a total dump. Makes me ashamed that my mother's maiden name is Foley.

I stayed in Chicago during the summer with friends. Foley's was a 3 min walk from our house so needless to say we spent quite a bit of time there!........I had some of my best nights out here purely due to the company! Extremely friendly bar staff (Dana and Marlena!) and locals......It helps if you tell them you're Irish!
I brought a friend who was visiting us for a few days and she tells me it was one of the best nights she had in chitown!
And indeed I was there for one of the kareoke sessions when the microphone was passed around the bar- theres no better way to do it, everyone gets a go!
If you want to go somewhere where you can mingle with the locals go to foley's.Its top notch!
Forget wriggleyville just hop down to foley's
I would give it top ratings for its friendliness.

This is my favourite bar in almost the entire city. Where eles can you, on a Tuesday night, none-the-less, play free darts, drink $2 PBR's and hear stories from a dillusional drunk about how she (swears!) she "danced with Brad Pitt at a bar on Kimball and Irving Park!" while she drinks Jaeger out of a snifter. I kid you not. The bar is tiny, the beer is cheap, there are ALWAYS sports on at least three of the 5 TV's, and the bartenders are the friendliest in the city. Just dont let them push shots of Malort on you- they love it here.

Well, this must be the watering hole for the locals. I stopped by here on my way home and the bartender knew everyone that walked in the door (except me) by name. Somebody's Cheers, I guess. The cool thing about this place is that although everyone knew each other...they were still all very friendly towards me. I did not feel like the sore thumb in this place. The place is t-i-n-y, the music was pretty cool (satellite jukebox), they have darts, flat screens with the game on, and the bartender even got me a beer on the house. If this place was closer to my house, it would probably be my watering hole. Oh yeah, cash only bar but they have an ATM inside.

    Where everybody knows your name...

I felt that by the time I left this bar, I had met everyone in the place.  And even people that I didn't know were so friendly.  It was really nice!  The only thing better than the nice/fun people were the cheap beers for $2.50!  Yes, bottled beers on a Friday night for $2.50!

This is one of the tiniest bars that I have been to in my life.  The actual bar inside takes up most of the space.  It was packed when we arrived on a Friday night and then would have its peaks of people throughout the night.  And I have to say that the bartender (Seth?) was super friendly.

    I will definitely be back!

One of the strangest bars I have ever been to.  I couldn't quite figure it out.  Is this a creepy bar?  A frat bar?  A slut bar? Basically this place is a hodge podge of people who are too lazy to haul their ass to a better place to drink.  It's not good as a dive bar, a chill bar, a rowdy bar or any type of bar.  Plus, on the few occasions I have been in there a microphone is passed around for people to sing into.  Sort of a bootleg karaoke.

This is a general dive of a Chicago bar - but in a good sense. I was introduced to this place when I lived a block away from it last year. I would walk past in the spring/summer months from the Irving Park Brown line station (immediately NE of the bar) on my way home, and peek my head in to see what the score of the afternoon Cubs game was. As the season wore on and the Cubs inevitably imploded, all I had to do was look at the faces of the regulars, and I knew the outcome. This place has a big time regular crowd -- but don't let it deter you. Sometimes for no real reason you're just in the mood for a Bob Seger song, a budweiser, darts and a Golden Tee game, and this place packs it all in what seems like a 400 square foot space. The one non-dive aspect is that the place has a nice high-definition TV -- as for major football, baseball (Cubs have priority over Sox here) and basketball games, it 's a pretty safe bet that the game's on there. Beer is mostly bottled, and generally cheap. If you're in the mood for a drink in St. Ben's with few frills, this is your place.
