Went here for some after drinks after a scrumptious dinner a few blocks down at El Bronco.  The atmosphere is very chill and yes, there is a fortune teller on duty. Heard that they had a great beer selection and wanted to give it a try. Honestly, the beer selection was OK but holy cocktail menu!!  I wish I would have looked at that first before ordering a tap beer. They had so many interesting concoctions that I couldn't wait to chug down my beer and order one.

Unfortunately, there was a tornado nearby which foiled my plan. We were about finished with our drinks when the bartender got up on the bar to make an announcement "The sirens are going off and there is a tornado headed this way. We have a bathroom in the back and a small basement area for shelter."  Being the claustrophobic, tornado-fearing person that I am I said "Let's get the hell out of here and go home." Luckily we live very close by because if the tornado was gonna kill me, I wanted to die at home with my dog. If you can't tell, I don't do well with severe weather. It freaks me out.

Anyways, our trip to Fortune Teller got cut short but we will return to try a yummy cocktail. I will just have to check the weather radar beforehand.

A hipster walks into a bar.

I love this place. The decor is all dark wood and taxidermy, with a fortune teller in the front window on most nights. It's got a great ambiance that can't be created artificially; the combination of location, service, and kitsch make it something super-rad.

I didn't get the opportunity to actually go to the fortune teller, but I hear good things.  Evidently, fortune telling is illegal in STL, but I guess not enforced.

This is a nice spot to grab drinks on Cherokee Street, really deep selection of beer by the bottle.

Ok, for starters the fortune teller is just for fun. Don't come here looking for enlightenment.  But it is worth a few bucks tip (she doesn't charge, but don't be cheap) to hear the card reader guess at your fate.
All that said, this place is a great little bar with a relaxed atmosphere and excellent drinks. The crowd is mixed, but has kind of a young hipster trend going. The atmosphere is not fancy and to be honest I don't know why all the stuffed animals are there. The drinks seem to be where this place shines with a excellent mix of liquors and bartenders who seem to be all business.
I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to get a little buzzed at a little spot that is off the beaten path.

Glühwein! Imagine my surprise when I saw it sitting in a little electric warmer on the bar. It's only been two months since I had Glühwein in the Christmas markets in Germany, but I missed it already. While I found the Fortune Teller's version a little too mild and sweet (much less alcoholic/pungent than what I had in Berlin), I still appreciated them offering it. To cap off my German nostalgia, I also had a shot of Bärenjäger...certainly don't see that in a bar around these parts everyday. Rawr!

I am a little obsessed with taxidermy so the mischievous-looking coon on top of the bar was another pleasant surprise. Now I want to meet the owner. I think we have similar interests.

I dig this place. I'll be back.

This is an old-school, no frills, city neighborhood bar.  Good beer selection, excellent cocktail list, eclectic tongue in cheek decoration, helpful staff.  The bar setup is shotgun and it does get a bit crowded trying to weave through to get to the back or use the restrooms.  The crowd is south city hipster and good music is playing, so there is a friendly and laid back vibe.  I could see a solo act playing here in the corner being a great fit...not room for a full band, really.
I have yet to see the fortune teller, but that all good with me.  It seems a bit gimmicky and not a fit with the bar, but I guess a different and unusual theme does help draw folks to the bar for that first visit, then they will come back based on the good experience.
I understand some of the reviews that mention the area being a little sketchy at night- I live pretty close and spend a fair amount of time on Cherokee.  That is one of the things that makes this new bar even better and such a welcome addition.  Every time a cool, new place opens it attracts the good people and helps eventually displace the bad people.  Cherokee has really improved over the past few years with the many new businesses that invest in the neighborhood, so thank you for that!

    I really like this place...

The only downside is the location.  It seemed a bit sketchy... I was lucky enough to get a parking spot directly in front of the bar.  If I had to park too far away or down one of the side streets I probably would've had to skip going in.  As I was leaving there were several random groups of men standing around on both sides of the street in front of business' that appeared to be closed.  Then as I entered my car a guy knocked on my window trying to get me to give him a ride....Um, NO Dude!

Other than that the place is pretty solid.  It's a great neighborhood bar with a good selection of beers, cocktails and nosh items.  I had the Chicago Sidecar and it was delicious.  Really glad that they have Civil Life on tap...my fave local brewery.

I also had my palm read by the owner's wife.  She is the sweetest, nicest & coolest little lady ever!  Totally enjoyed my time with her!

I'm now a fan of this place. The lady bar tender is still surlier than necessary, but...who cares?! I had my birthday party-type thing here last night and everyone seemed to have a ton of fun.

The beer selection is really great. I love a good porter and they had one of the best, Founder's.

I didn't eat anything there, but the food was a shining moment the last time and I can only imagine they've improved it.

The owner's wife was there doing palm readings for tips. My reading was pretty awesome.

One thing keeping them from a 5: while they actually have a cocktail list now, something's wrong. Maybe they're bad cocktails, or maybe the execution was poorly done. I'm going to go with "good recipe, poor execution". Oh well.

Also, the barrel tables they have are sorta unfortunate. Their tops are sloped inwards so everyone's drinks just end up sliding into the middle.

Go here to drink beer on Cherokee Street!

I truly enjoy this space! I finally got around to visiting on a decent night and met some great people. Ambiance is pretty nice, and my friend pointed out the original ceiling and portions of the floor that are still in tact, which I love. Gotta keep the originals when you find them, including the front sign. I am glad they brought this joint back and brought it to a new level!

Try their spiced wine. It will change your life and gain a few new friendly acquaintances and test their germ tolerance! Hehe

I may be a little biased, as I recently befriended one of the owners, but I am a big fan of the Fortune Teller Bar. I believe it is Thursday through Sunday nights that they boast a real Fortune Teller.... I don't know about you, but that's a selling point enough for me!

The decor isn't super glamorous, but that's kinda their thing. It's very hipster to say the least. I love the creepy animal heads on the wall, alongside the vintage chairs and barrel tables they looked right on.

When we stopped by last week, they had an established list of reasonably priced beers by the bottle. They also had some really interesting cocktails that I wasn't daring enough to try (or maybe my budget played in here too).

Snacks included a charcuterie plate, a cheese board, pizzas made locally on Cherokee and PICKLED EGGS. What else do you need?!?

Bartenders are super cute, friendly and helpful as were the new friends we made whilst sitting at the bar. Very comfy, cozy atmosphere. No doubt we will be back.

I stopped in the other day... a friend of mine told me about this place and that it recently opened.  It's on Cherokee very close to Jefferson.  It seems that they are still working to get off the ground but may have a good following already.  There were plenty of people there.

Weird animal heads were on the wall.  How does a fortune teller have anything to do with taxidermy?  Confused.

Unfortunately we were looking for draft beer and they don't have their kegs running yet.  So we were in and out.  I'll reserve more acute judgment when they have all aspects off the ground.

A great addition to the night scene on Cherokee street, a small shotgun bar with terrific young people running the place.  Some interesting cold plates of meats and cheeses to nubble on and great selection of German beers. You can even get your palm read here! This place just opened and will no doubt get better as they figure it all out.

Fun bar, with a very creative menu, which supports and promotes neighboring establishments. The food and drink menu has a variety of items that will appeal to a wide range of connoisseurs, from stag and pizza to unexpected picked eggs and veggies to go with a crafty cocktail of your choice. Great addition to the Cherokee neighborhood!

While they just opened and are still scrambling to sort out a few of the details, it's so nice to see another spot on Cherokee keep their old world look on the outside but renovate so beautifully on the inside!

The space is a shotgun hallway style space, but having seen the space a few years prior when a few of the co-owners first acquired the space, you too would be amazed at how much they've opened up the space! While the space seems to fill up fast at night, you can always go for a happy hour or for pre dinner drinks and beat the crowds and have the bar all to yourself since as of now they open at 4! It's also a much better time to ask in more detail about their craft liquors and cocktails! The menu and website offer clear descriptions even if it is crowded, and standing on the shorter edge of the stately freshly varnished long bar extending down the hallway ensures that behind you'll have a few tables to sit at if you prefer that over barstools or leaning on the ledge to set your drinks on while chatting with friends and watching the turnover of people waiting to order cocktails. As of now, their beer selection seems limited (which is funny to say since their site boasts THIRTY bottled selections with draught coming soon, taps are already installed!) compared to how knowledgeable the owners and staff are, but for what it is, it sure is well curated! The meat plate is great, they have a few different pizza flavors that should please you no matter if you're feeling plain or adventurous, and they have a few types of pickled offerings-- my fave!

Kudos to them for assembling a cocktail list where even those who make faces while sipping strong dark liquors (guilty as charged, I can't help it if I prefer a good clear liquor infusion over a barrel aged bourbon!) can tolerate and even enjoy their whiskey based cocktails (the absinthe alone on the other hand made me feel like a kid trying to stomach cough syrup.... But I had to try it!!!) to my surprise, the real gem of my heart on their cocktail menu was actually a bourbon based drink! The Chicago Sidecar features Buffalo Trace Bourbon, fresh lemon, sugar, baked apple bitters (if not made in house, they certainly found a hard to find bitters!) and an egg white shaken in just for that creamy fizzy fluff top heaven that only an egg in a cocktail can achieve! Just describing it is making me thirsty for one now... How close is it to 4 o'clock?

Oh and remember to bring cash, the ATM is there if you need it but it comes with a fee, so be prepared if you forget your cash. That being said, it's SO NICE to finally have a pedestrian ATM available in the area, a few years ago I would every so often stop into a (now closed) diner on Cherokee street that was cash only and I'd often find myself having to drive to the shell station on Arsenal and I-55 by the Budweiser brewery and not having to make the drive to that ATM just to pay your tab is WELL WORTH the $3 convenience charge in my eyes!

***UPDATE*** They now take cards so the ATM comment and recommend to bring cash is now irrelevant!
