Best grinders around! Â I have walked nearly 20 minutes to get grinders for lunch in rainy weather before...that's how good they are! Â The grinder rolls are delicious and always fresh. Â The chicken salad is the best I've had anywhere! Â The kickin' chicken is fabulous as well -- just ask for a little extra sauce. Â And I dare you to try and go in for a grinder and not be tempted by all the other foods in the display window...it's rare that I walk out with ONLY what I went in for!
Review Source:Best place in Western Massachusetts to get cured meats and aged cheeses for an authentic antipasto. How many delis in this part of the world have more than one kind of prosciutto? Frigo's has 3 or 4. And try the dry cured whole sopressata. But be warned, once your family tries the cold cuts from Frigo's they'll never want the stuff from Big Y again. And if you've ever had one of those limp cherry peppers stuffed with cheese that comes in a jar of olive oil from the grocery store, do yourself a favor and try the fresh stuffed hot peppers at Frigo's. They're addictive!
Review Source:Outstanding food! I hosted a retirement lunch today, the team there is fantastic, everything was handled in a first class manner, from my last min addition to my order, to delivery (early), set up and all my guests 50 plus people were thrilled with this lunch! Â I will order from here again! Â Please keep up the outstanding work
Review Source:Every time I visit this place I just find it another reason to like it. Â We started coming here for the grinders, which are probably some of the best prices grinders you will find in Hamden county ($5.50 for an Italian half vienna loaf?!?). Â Everything is freshly made and the fact they have a line out of the door at lunch should show how good their grinders are. Â After lunch they still have a fairly good sized market of stuff that you probably will not find in the grocery store. Â On top of this they have a good selection of Italian wine and other Italian varieties. Â I believe they are supposed to be opening an expresso bar soon to, which will just be another reason to visit now.
Review Source:When I finally made it here after organizing a company "Frigo's Friday" after my brother telling me about it, I kicked myself for not going sooner. Basically, my brother is a bastard for not accurately conveying the sheer awesomeness of this deli. Can I even call it a deli? The place is so unassuming from the outside but should really have rainbows and dollar bills and other awesome shit like rock candy and puppies and little baby bunnies shooting out of its windows.
The display case is PACKED with options. The food is made fresh every day and it all looks so good! When I go in there I often panic by the time its time to order and end up just kind of pointing and grunting at something until the woman sticks it in a bag and hands it to me. Nothing looks unappetizing. From all tentacle squid salad to antipasto to the Kickin CHicken sandwich or a crowd favorite The Torpedo... its alll good. The owner always hands out free samples of cheese and is a super friendly dude. He made me feel like family my first time in there.
This place is my new joint. It rivals that of any Italian deli I have ever been to, NYC and Boston included.
Thank you Frigo's. Thank you.
As a side note I think its important to mention that when the tornado hit Springfield, my brother ran down there like a bat out of hell with fear in his eyes and a fire in his step. He was so afraid to think something may have damaged his beloved Frigo's. So glad you're okay!
...BEST ITALIAN FOOD IN WESTERN MASS, AND CT....NO REALLY, IT IS.
THE PLACE: iv been here about 12 million time, like twice a week and on Saturdays, iv since moved to Cali but this place is rare, its Authentic, old and it feels like home. Place is amazing hanging cheeses all around a beautiful case of pre-prepared Italian foods as well as prepacked homemade ravioli, pasta, olive oil ect. Nice little shop section with some Italian type stuff so you get real authentic with it. Â FLAT OUT, ITS THE BEST THING ABOUT SPRINGFIELD MASSACHUSETTS!! i recommend this place to people who are even passing threw Springfield...You don't wanna miss it.
THE FOOD: Â Amazing, anything you get is top notch. Â Any of the chickens covered in cheese or veggies (napoli ect) are BOMB and sometimes the even have some steak dishes, kabobbs, fresh meats, pasta salads, everything and it all TOP NOTCH, i cant stress how good EVERYTHING is. Â also, i get some flack for this but the DOLO breads are nice, stuffed with steak or chicken they are just something you don't see that much.
THE CREW: Nice staff, friendly, remember you, joke around with you and hit you off with some nice sandwich action on the custom tip if you like. Took a cooking class here with Joe Frigo, guy could not have been nicer, food was amazing and Dave is sick with the wine knowledge.
OVERALL: Amazing, i wish i still had it around..its the ONE thing i miss about east coast!
This place is absolutely fantastic! Â The only thing you need to know is that if you go in to get lunch, you will wind up buying something to take home for dinner. Â My boyfriend always knows where I went for lunch if I bring Frigo's home for dinner - and he loves when I do! Â
Also know, if you go right at lunch time, there will be a line. It's so worth it though!
They have their own parking lot too.
I'll warn you, do not come here hungry.
I usually come here to get a sub, which happen to be the best in the area, but always walk out with several other things that look too good to pass up. They know how to make food at Frigo's. If I had enough money I don't think I would ever cook. Instead I would stop at Frigo's and pick up dinner when I wasn't eating out.
Next time you're looking for a quick lunch in the area stop by Frigo's and pick up a sandwich. I swear they lose money on these things. Peruse the shop and I'm sure other things will jump out as well. You'll be back.
Frigo's is a classic family-style Italian deli and grocery - great deli salads with asparagus and prosciutto, lunch specials, antipasta, sandwiches, Italian cured meats, cheeses, even a small wine selection. Â
I've only been once, so I can't speak in depth, but everything I had was very good, and the stuff I didn't have looked to be of equal caliber.
