Woo Hoo!  Conveniently located in the Ritz Carlton at Pentagon City, this lounge is both cozy and comfortable. My daughter and I went for drinks as she was staying at the hotel.

Our bartender, Robert, was AWESOME!  He even made up drinks for my daughter. For me, the 2nd lemon drop martini (and third) were perfection. The first one was not tart enough. When I mentioned that too him, he made the correction, and I was well pleased!!!

And then there's the food. Presentation is great. That great presentation falls by the wayside when you taste the food. Goodness, the shrimp and grits, garnished with asparagus and honey bacon was beyond MARVELOUS!

Many 'regulars' were at the bar, all very friendly. Very, very comfortable. I'm looking forward to returning soon.

Went for restaurant week. Didn't know what the meny offerings were going to be before going, but clad I chose this place. I went with 3 other family members and we had a great experience. They ran out of the bottle of wine we wanted, so we got a bottle that was $12 more for the same price, which was nice of them to do in order to accomodate our original order. I chose quail, salmon, and caramel cheesecake as my 3 restaurant week options. I never had quail before trying it here, and it was good. I felt awkward trying to eat it w/o being a mess, but the flavor was like chicken. Cooked to crispy perfection and the sauce displayed on the plate added just enough flavor. The salmon was almost perfect. I like mine a little less done, but still crispy on the outside. But I enjoyed it. Now...if you love lamb, I recommend the lamb burger. It's the best I've EVER had!!! Was so flavorful! I wanted to take it from my mom and exchange her my salmon. The caramel cheesecake was a little over powering in the caramel flavor, but it was good. Very different presentation than I was expecting. If you love caramel, you'd die for it!
    I am def coming back!!!!

I used to be a big fan of their brunch, and have been indulging on occasional Sunday mornings for almost 4 years. However, since mid-2010, the price has almost doubled, the selection at the buffet is much less wide-ranging, the quality of the service has declined, and the straw that broke the camel's back is that they've eliminated the bottomless mimosa, and they now include one complimentary mimosa. For $55, the food is good, but not worth it. If you want to splurge, a la carte is probably a better way to go now. It's sad, because I really enjoyed this brunch. But I probably won't be back in the near future.

Nice atmosphere, excellent service, great food, and nice wine list. I chose the red fish and a Willamette Pinot Noir. Both were excellent.

Most people say that they don't remember the food at their wedding, but I can still see and taste the lamb chops I had on our big night.  But I'm getting ahead of myself.  The staff at Fyve, and especially Erin and Michael, made sure we had everything we needed for our big day.

We had originally planned a catering menu for our small party of 14 people, but with a small group, found that ordering a la carte with our guests pre-selecting their entrees from a couple of selections we presented would be significantly cheaper.  We had been negotiating catering prices, but Erin was more than happy to accommodate our rather last minute request to go the a la carte route instead.  And despite our changed plans, they still graciously printed out a very nice menu with our selections and our names.  When we arrived at the restaurant to make sure everything was in place, Michael was there to accommodate all of our requests with seating arrangements and settings.

The food itself was very good.  French onion soup seems to taste fairly standard everywhere you go, but I liked that the gruyere didn't harden into clumps as the soup cooled.  I was a bit concerned that the organic green salad would be boring, but it was anything but--the portions were very generous, there were large pieces of cheese, and the candied Virginia peanuts added a nice flavor.  For my entree, I had the lamb chops, which were done just right.  I didn't try the beef tenderloin or the crab cakes our other guests had, but everyone seemed to be very happy with their meals.

The only complaint I had about the dinner was that service was a bit slow.  We were sitting for what seemed like a pretty significant amount of time before our first course was served, and subsequent courses also took their time in coming.  This created lulls in conversation, and by the time it was time to cut the cake for dessert, the children were restless and our guests seemed to be losing a bit of steam.

When we received our bill, they had tacked on a 24% gratuity for the catering menu instead of the 18% for the a la carte menu we had previously agreed on with Erin.  Michael was very quick to make the correction when we pointed out the discrepancy, but we were slightly miffed that the mistake was made in the first place, as it was something that we could have very easily overlooked considering we were ushering out a group of wedding guests.

Overall, Fyve provided us with a very positive experience on a very important day.  Considering all the trauma and pressure of preparing a wedding on a short timeline, I really appreciated the efforts of the Fyve staff to make our evening completely stress-free.

Stayed here, and loved having this lounge/restaurant right downstairs -- it made things very convenient, which was really nice. Great coffee, tasty food -- the french onion soup was delicious.

Went for brunch buffet with hubby and parents since it was nearby and came up on my phone when i yelped for breakfast/brunch options in pentagon city. Went to website- its menu said ~$25 for breakfast... bill came, almost fell out of my chair, $239 not including tip.... not happy. My parents dont even drink. Totally not worth the $ go elsewhere. Had I known, and had the website been clear, never would have stepped foot in there. Million other places with equal or better food for a third of the price. boooooo :(

My companion and I decided to get out of the mall and escape some of the crowds, and ended up in the lounge for a simple drink.  Other than the unruly kids, it was a pleasant atmosphere, but remember it is the Ritz.  Expect to pay pay pay for that glass of wine and the cashews and olives that are complimentary.

The brunch was ok, I dont think it was worth 50$ per person. The desserts were really good. I just thought the toilet paper needs to be softer considering how much we are paying for the food, service, and venue.

    Of course very expensive.

This review is for the Lounge at Happy Hour only...
Wow, what an oasis from the maddening crowd at the mall.  My Mom, Sis, and I went shopping during the work week, and it was PACKED...we should have expected...We decided to try HH at the lounge and we lucked out.  Food items were specially priced and we were treated to some cashews and snacks while our food and drink orders came.  There was also live music in the background...ambiance and friendly service was fantastic.  The Manager came by to check in and to ensure everything was up to par...I am a fan and will be back!

The food was oustanding.  We ordered the Sunday brunch buffet and I had the crab cake benedicts, which was amazing.  However, the service was mediocre. The restaurant manager never smiled and acted as if I was bothering her.  The waitress was only seen every 10 minutes.

i went to the Fyve with my cherished people to spend a stressless Thanksgiving. We hoped to enjoy excellent food and a friendly, festive atmosphere with no cleanup (and no leftovers :( ). For this, we were willing to put down $90 for a fixed price 4 course dinner.

To start with, we were not greeted by a host, hostess, maitre d', or anything. Had to go searching for someone to seat us. Strange but so it goes. We were seated at a rather cramped table on a corner. As the food SLOWLY arrived, course-by-course, I had a good chuckle at the gigantic plates, SMALL portions of food, and the fact that the plates frequently did not fit among the copious flatware at each place. The food was only average, certainly not commensurate with the price.

I credit the chef for making doubly sure that the one member of my party with a poultry allergy was steered away from those food choices that would affect her.

Overall: expensive and meh. We won't go back there for next Thanksgiving.

Eh.  Not much of a review here as I only had a beer while meeting players from the Dallas Cowboys, but the place had a "nose in the air" feel to it.  I like to go places where I don't feel judged when I walk in the door by both the staff and the customers.

There were no more than 40 or 50 very civil fans in attendance to meet the team and the hotel staff roped us all off like cattle.  It was kind of demeaning.

There was a very sweet couple at the bar, though, who were also apparently Cowboys fans visiting to watch the game against the Redskins.  But otherwise, I can't see myself coming here for anything else.  I don't need a restaurant, particularly in a Ritz-Carlton attached to a shopping mall, to feel any confirmation of my social status.

Overall - pass.  Reading some of the other reviews, there are places in and around Washington DC with much better food, and brunch, than this place (check out La Boum at Cafe L'Enfant for brunch) and you won't feel like your ability to spend an arm and a leg for mediocre fare is what you're judged by.  Hell you won't feel judged at all.

Certainly not the worst, but by far one of the best restaurants in Arlington... wow, that grammar sucks but I can't put it any other way. Guess I should spend more time on English than feeding my face.

Food here is unique but nothing I would deem spectacular. Service was fabulous, as were the drinks (a lot of house specialties to choose from), but something about the food didn't really dazzle. It was a bit bland, sadly.

On the plus side they have a fabulous happy hour with $5 small plates. Not sure of the drink specials. The layout is beautiful with a fireplace and sometimes they offer live jazz. Bonus for it being right at the metro.

I do think this place has potential and I'll head back for afternoon tea or maybe brunch.  Try it... you might like it but it just wasn't for me.

With all you can drink Mimosas and an endless of arrays of tantalizing goodies, Fyve is by far the best brunch spot in the Northern Virginia area. From shrimp cocktail to sushi, the cold/hot bar features all of your favorite breakfast foods along with stone crab claws and ice-cold shrimp cocktail. The various cheeses/meats provide satisfaction for all of your salty desires, and the service is impeccable.

Worth the price, along with the fact that you can indulge in some retail therapy post-brunching.

Fyve, the restaurant and lounge, is arguably the most elegant scene in the South Arlington area of Pentagon City/ Pentagon Row.

Located within the Ritz, the dimly lit, swanky, high-ceilinged room hosts travelers and locals alike.  I've been after work with a girlfriend, and although one should expect to pay higher prices, one should also expect a refined, low-key atmosphere, decent service, and quality food and beverages.  Fyve delivers all of that.  The two tables near the fireplace are awfully nice on chilly evenings.  I wish the Ritz would put a sofa and chairs in that area instead.  Still, I love the sophistication of the place and will definitely be a repeat visitor.

*I got the Absolut L'Orang/Carrot Juice/Ginger offering from the 100-calorie drink menu this week.  Loved it.  It's very spicy-gingery.

I came here for a business lunch and was very impressed with the menu and obviously the Ritz service.

Our table was ready upon arrival. As I waited for my counterparts to arrive I was served the ordered drink and left alone. They didn't pressure me to order until everyone arrived.

I ordered the Salad Nicoise - it was very tasty. I substituted Tuna for Chicken - chicken was good. The salad was a perfect lunch dish - a little less salad dressing would have been nice (it was drenched in it).

The others ordered the butternut squash soup and the crabcake sandwich. The soup was a nice, small portion served in a french onion bowl/container so totally manageable if you order the soup + entree. The crabcake was a generous portion and both ladies really enjoyed it.

If you're looking for a nice lunch spot in the area I highly recommend this place. And because it is a lunch menu the items are totally affordable.

Another perk is they serve freshly baked bread with hummus while you wait.

    Yum.

Went here for drinks and a late night meal with a friend.

The lounge had a number of different patrons. One table had a group of women in the midst of what appeared to be a girl's night out. Another had an older woman reading the paper. There were businessmen and even a casually (t-shirt, jeans, one had a dyed mohawk) dressed couple. The environment was welcoming and comfortable, and above all, the service was unbelievable.

The staff checks frequently enough to make sure you don't need anything, the table is cleared of empty dishes, glasses are full, etc., but for the most part, they just let you sit and talk and enjoy yourself. We never once had to look around for help. The timing was impeccable.

My friend got the Commander in Chief and seemed to enjoy it. It was a radiant pink beverage in a martini glass. I got the Julep (Maker's Mark Bourbon, mint, peach schnapps, simple syrup). It was a little sweeter than I would have preferred, but still a pretty strong drink.

We also ordered the spicy marinated olives, Mediterranean dips, and short rib sliders. If you can get the short rib slider, do it. It melts in your mouth and the meat literally just falls apart.

It was a completely different world than hectic Pentagon City. Absolutely plan on coming back again.

Great tip from Yelp! I needed somewhere to wind down after a long week, and the location allowed for a little retail therapy before dinner.

I had planned on a full meal, but upon arrival, the lounge was a better fit for a single business traveler. I really enjoyed the setting - small bar, fireplace ablaze, a single TV for catching up on events (not intrusive at all), and various couches, small tables and seating for small parties. The pianist really made the evening quite enjoyable.

I sampled a few items from the lounge menu (cheese plate and a salad nicoise), had a few drinks and relaxed on a Friday night. The staff was great, always there when needed and very pleasant.

We were looking for a classy place around Pentagon City to get a couple of martinis, and Fyve looked like a better fit than any of the restaurants in or around the mall.  It's in the Ritz-Carlton, right by their mall entrance, so you automatically get the fancypants marble floors, art, and flower arrangements.  The bathrooms have real towels.  People hold the door for you.  It's nice, you get the picture!

I ordered a "Commander in Chief," which is basically a berry martini - I don't know if it's named that way because some President has a secret love for raspberry vodka and creme de cassis.  It was strong and delicious.  My friend ordered a dirty gin martini, and asked if they had blue cheese-stuffed olives... they didn't, but they made some especially for her!  I thought that was pretty impressive.  The cocktails were on the expensive side ($13), but very well-made.  And you're in the freakin' Ritz.

We weren't hungry enough to order from their menu, but the $5 appetizers looked really interesting - I'd happily return.  The bartenders were very friendly and eager to please, and service was fairly prompt until we were ready to pay and couldn't find anyone to bring the check!  Still, it was a relaxing place to have some drinks and enjoy the finer things in life.

    Tea service review!

One of the best high teas I've had in the DC area.  Not traditional, in the stacked plates sense.  They also serve forte tea in a little mesh bag (gasp!).  Still, the experience was on the right side of price and service.  Sandwiches were what you'd expect; the egg salad was particularly memorable.  Scone was good, and the sweets were super indulgent.  We made it a Royal Tea by adding a glass of champagne, which was only a few bucks above their traditional tea service.  If you are looking for elaborate china and little creamers, look elsewhere.  But if you are fine for a modern version of the tea service, make yourself an appointment.

Tremendous customer service, the staff at the Ritz went above an beyond all expectations.

I was looking to surprise my wife with a massage and brunch with her best friend. I researched a few local Sunday brunch via yelp and the Ritz seemed to be the winner. I called the restaurant and spoke with Jennifer Paik about setting a reservation for brunch. She accomodated my every request, between her and the staff they made her experience truly memorable.

According to my wife the food was good but keep in mind she had several glasses of Champagne. So my review for now is based on their service. Highly recommend this spot when customer service is at the top of your list.

As far as pricing goes, in my opinion is fairly reasonable. Brunch is 30 per person(champagne included). By the way the restaurant is in the Ritz and is called Fyvve.

Top-notch service, class, and luxury are all words synonymous with the Ritz-Carlton. Another word to add - - pricey! It isn't cheap to hob nob with the executives who rule our city. But a las, I have found the perfect venue for a small and intimate dinner or happy hour with friends. Every day, from 2:30 - 11:00 p.m. the Ritz-Carlton in Pentagon City offers a $5 lounge menu.

Imagine cozying up in a suede chair by the fire with a glass of wine and listening to a musician playing popular hits of the past on a baby grand. When your food comes, the waiter oh-so-daintily places a napkin in your lap and magically re-appears again only when you want him to. The service and ambiance is so good that you will magically forget that you are a mere corporate drone trying to find your way up the ladder.

I checked the place out last week with my cousin and we ordered two entrees, a glass of wine and dessert and ending up paying a total of $25 sans tip. The food offerings are of standard bar fare only fancied up and in smaller portions but we left feeling full. Some of the items on the lounge menu include: a local artisan cheese plate, risotto balls, calamari, grilled chicken wings, short rib sliders, mini cupcakes and cheesecake.

The food was delicious but not outstanding. The service however, was top-notch. I will definitely return for a happy hour gathering with a group of girlfriends.

Went here for lunch. Pretty decor with orange hues but the dining room is kind of dull.
Service was excellent. Special lunch menu is a great value. I had gaspacho with crabmeat, grilled salmon and chocolate fudge cake with raspberry sorbet - all very delicious for $21.
They serve illy coffee - awesome!
When you order coffee, they bring you a huge pot so you don't have to ask for more every time they come around.

I'm giving this a 5 because I've been here so much I feel like I should buy stock options.

I'm usually in the lounge for drinks, although I have dined for brunch (which was AMAZING)

he service is always fantastic and the servers are not overly attentive.  Sidenote, the servers I've had remember what I usually drink...awesome, right?  I mean I'm not there every night, or weekly, or even monthly but they always remember.  Ahhh...wistful appreciation.

Speaking of drinks they are always made perfectly.  Can't ask for better.

The bar menu is short and well executed, although I am highly annoyed at how they changed the calamari.  It used to be a pretty good plateful which could be shared and MAn is it good.  Some of the best I've had.  Now it's a much smaller portion and not even close to enough.  Wah.

Yes, it's the Ritz, yes its a clearly older, more settled crowd here but it's a perfect place to relax like an adult in a peaceful environment.

Delicious brunch and breakfast. Fresh and flavorful food. The service, as you would expect, is top notch.

Of course, it's the Ritz, so it's not going to be cheap. But it's really a reliable place to take friends or family when they come into town for some quality food.

Ok - so here I am at Fyve again.  I was anticipating what my smoked salmon would look like today and indeed it was quite different from the last three times.

Let see.. today, there was only about half of the salmon, no tomatoes and cucumbers..  today's onion was diced and capers were scattered..

Oh well, at least the service improved today..

The food was delicious but, I wish we would've gone on a night other than Sunday.  They didn't have their full menu available and we sat in the lounge instead of the restaurant.  Service was very slow when we first sat down - probably waited 10 minutes just to get water.  After that though, things picked up.

The meatball appetizer was awesome and a stand out of our meal.  Crab cake was the best I've ever had.  Dessert was beautiful - very well done presentation.  Creme brulee tasted as good as it looked too!

I Love Talking to the Servers

How do you make a review of the restaurant in a Ritz-Carlton (cover your mouth when you yawn please) sound "hip" and garner the coveted "cool" accolades?

One hallmark of the Ritz Carlton brand is the international character of the help.  You ask an employee where they are from, and you're likely to hear of some exotic locale.  This morning it was Cameroon and Morocco.  So, if you want to see if your French from school still works or put those Arabic classes you've been taking to the test, this is the place for you.

This was a breakfast with a high school bud who was in town and staying at the hotel.  The server offered the breakfast bar, but we demurred and ordered off the menu.  My tablemate had the "American Breakfast," aka eggs to order with bacon, toast, coffee, and juice.  If the $21.50 price tag makes you gag, you can always go to a quick eats place out in the Fashion Centre Mall, but you won't have a cloth napkin laid in your lap for you, nice flatware, and won't get introduced to the shakers and movers in town having their breakfast meetings.

I had the three-egg omelet which was $16.50, but came with cottage-fried potatoes, a baked tomato with basil, and a sprinkling of asparagus tips.  We were there for well over an hour, weren't rushed, and the service was attentive without being obtrusive.  My little coffee pot was replenished without having to ask.

The location is superconvenient to the Pentagon City Metro stop and would be a great place to meet with out-of-town guests even if they weren't staying at the Ritz.

This is a great spot no matter what level of food you want.  The bar area has casual food served by the fireplace and the grill is the nicer of the two.  I have hosted a corp luncheon here and had several very nice meals and lunches.  Always tasty with superb table servers.

Brunch is fantastic here.  Come hungry and don't plan on eating afterwards.  The bottomless mimosas and fresh-squeezed OJ are winners.  I hear that weekday tea service is good too but never tried it.

ODDITY:  Holiday dining at The Ritz is usually very nice but you need to be careful of the menu offerings on Thanksgiving and Christmas or you may be disappointed if you have dislikes like wild game, seafood etc.  Once you sit down in the grill on a holiday the menu is strictly prix fixe.  Last Christmas the menu was all wild game and seafood so we had to get up and abandon our reservation and head to the casual side of the Ritz to eat off a bar menu.  We really enjoyed this despite the initial upset.

I'm a brunch-a-holic and am on the eternal quest to find the best in town. This would hit the mark save for the fact that I only go when my dad pays. I've no idea how much it is, but it cant' be cheap.
Go late because you have to be hungry. Caviar station, sushi, desserts, meat carving stations, the usual brunch stuff (eggs, pastry, salad, fruit, cold seafood). The point is for the elaborate spread, none of the food suffers in quality. The shrimp is the perfect consistency--usually an easy bench-marker at a buffet sort of brunch. The caviar is ice cold and they usually offer no less than four varieties. I had a broiled, on-shell scallop that sent shivers down my spine. And there were about 20 sitting there for the taking. So take I did. The dark chocolate fountain they had the first time I went had me mesmerized for about 15 minutes of blood sugar-altering bliss. Sadly, it wasn't there the second time around. We used to do the Westfields Marriott brunch as a Mother's Day staple; now any high-falutin' brunching is done at the Ritz.
P.S. My sister is a vegetarian and left fully sated for those with veggie people in their lives.

Brunch heaven! Sunday Brunch will never be the same!  Granted, it's a tad pricey - but it is worth every single penny and I'd go back in a second! The Ritz Grill advertises their "award winning Sunday brunch" - now I don't know exactly what awards they've one, but they can add Penny's Best Brunch Ever Award to their list, if they're so inclined.
Service is IMPECCABLE!  The buffet is truly to die for....salads, egg station, sushi, caviar and shell fish station...the foie gras -ummmmmm. Desserts are totally sinful and delightfully decadent.  The sabayon is glorious! Everyone at my table continued to talk about the orange juice into the next day...we've never tasted any so sweet. Of course, following up with a bottomless glass of very nice Champagne doesn't hurt!  Absolutely a splurge that you must engage in!

All hail The Grill at Ritz-Carlton, Pentagon City. I'm not sure if it was the food, the service or my hot date that made this place one of my favorites but its definitely high up on my top ten list! From the moment I stepped into this restaurant it was an experience. Our waiter was great, he helped us make our wine choices and suggested some of the best things on the menu- for appetizer Grilled Mississippi Quail, main course Seared Pekin Duck Breast and for dessert the Valrhona Chocolate Sampler.

Feeling adventurous I didn't choose any of the suggested entree's (except for the dessert...which I will get to in a moment). I chose to go with the East Coast Specialty Oysters for an appetizer, Arugula and Big Woods Bleu Cheese Salad and the Lobster Risotto for the main course. Each one of these choices were fabulous is their own individual way but if I had to recommend just one it would be the Lobster Risotto. It was perfection!

The Valrhona Chocolate Sampler was a great finish to the meal. Warm Pain de Genes, milk chocolate tart and bittersweet Pot de Crme served with a malted milkshake...ummmm ummm good!
