I wonder how why no one mentions that this place smells like a sewer. Â Maybe it is because most of the reviewers on here might have had their service outside where there is ventilation. Â I cannot give the place a fair rating on food or service because whoa... that backed up poo water smell makes you want to run for ze hills once you try to come in.
Review Source:Parking is very difficult- street only. As soon as we walked in we stated we wanted to watch the Galaxy game and the hostess changed the channel on the biggest screen for us.  Within minutes a band began to set up right in from of the screen.  We should have been told about the band and offered to sit elsewhere.  No one came over to apologize about the distraction  even though we had discussed the game with two servers.  We changed seats on our own away from the band. Â
We are thankful we were now in a different section with a much better server that we extremely attentive throughout the busy night. Â
The food was very mediocre. Â We had the garlic mushrooms, bacon wrapped jalapenos, the California Burger, and the chicken curry. Â The mushrooms were very lemony and otherwise unseasoned. Â The burger was very bland, especially for having pepper jack cheese and a "spicy aioli" on it.. Â
It you want to go out drinking and listen to live music this would be a good place. Â But if you want to eat good food go elsewhere and if you want to watch a game be sure it's not a band night. Â Oh, Â their website doesn't work so checking may be a problem.
I love this place. The food is fantastic and the drinks very reasonable.
BUT...This is for Ciaran/Erin:
Please have your wait staff (girls) stop calling women "babe" and "sweetie" unless they are maybe a year or so older. Quite a few of us over 40 women find it very inappropriate.
It is insulting and (sorry) rather low class.
M-F Happy Hour 4p-7p and the best chicken strips. Mozz sticks good too.
Chill little Irish Bar. Â I don't have high expectations at any place I go to for HH - all I ask is that I can get a drink when I want and that the food is good. Â Well, when I go here - I sit at the bar....watch whatever sport is on (preferably Hockey or College FB), order the chicken strips, rum and coke (with a lime) and then $hoot the $hit with my buddy. Â We go here regularly...mostly on Wednesdays for 1 or 2 drinks.
Never had an issue with service...then again..I don't expect much and figure I am at a bar drinking - so can't really complain. Â The waitresses and bartenders have all been pretty cool with me...small talk, drinks, and food delivered.
Easy going vibe. Cheap drinks. Good food. How can you go wrong?
Most well drinks are around $5, much cheaper than any bars on 2nd or in downtown. Also, the food is not bad. They have tater tots!!! They have a pretty eclectic menu and it definitely tastes better than regular bar food. But I do think their buffalo wings, jalapeno poppers and other traditional bar food items taste better than things like their curry dish. Irish nachos are a good choice too.
Gather a team of 6 or less together to do Pub Trivia on Wednesday nights to compete for cash or try the bottomless mimosas on a Saturday morning. Also a great place for St. Patty's day if your up for it.
Came here with friends for a world cup qualifier game, and it was crowed, but fun. Â General atmosphere of the place was good, but service was just OK. Â I totally understand that it was a busy night, but there were issues at the end of the night because of a lack of communication on the part of the servers. Â The food is OK, your typical pub grub, and a nice selection of beer. Â I would definitely go back because it's a fun place, but if you go, make sure you ask questions and are very clear with your servers. Â Things that you assume they will pick up on, they might not, especially if it's busy. Â Attitudes of servers was not always friendly... again, I understand what it's like to serve on a busy night, but you had to know what you were getting into when you applied for the job. Â Just a note: a better attitude on your part equals better tips on my part. Â As a former server, I always start at 20% and go up from there if the service is good... just sayin'
Review Source:I got here at about ten o'clock the other night and it was absolutely packed. My friend and I were not invited to the private party, but we said we were and security let us inside! Because the place was so packed, and catering to a birthday party, service was pretty slow, but at least our orders were always correct. Our server, a pretty blonde whose name escapes me, was friendly enough, but visibly scatter-brained on account of all of her tables. I couldn't blame the poor girl, and I'm not an alcoholic so it's not as if I was chomping at the bit for my next drink. We ordered the Irish nachos and the fried zucchini. Everything was fabulous!
Review Source:Table service was NOT good at all. The food was good. Love the tater tots. Drinks were good. Bartender was nice. But table waitress was slow, forgetful, walked by us 8 times without acknowledgement, took 30 min to get a beer. It was almost painful to ask her anything because you knew it wasn't going to stick. Food and atmosphere was good tho. too bad she sucked.
Review Source:I loved this place and eat here all the time. The food is greasy and good and moderately priced. The waitresses are cool and attentive. But I was there this past Saturday night and I saw the owner screaming at this waitress and calling her a liar in the middle of the bar!It was really intense. I don't know what to make of it, but I don't think I'll be going back.
Review Source:This is a great little pub. Every time I've been there the mood was light and friendly with good customers all around. It's close to my bf's house so its a solid date spot. 9 times out of 10 they let you seat yourself. They have a weird system that seams to work: usually we have two people to take our drink/food order. I'm not sure if the person who takes out drink order is maybe just a helper but i can dig it.
My favorite thing is their tots! make sure to get their sweet chili sauce to accompany them! Burger wise i recently tried the stuffed burger. It's stuffed with american cheese! Â YUM!!! every occasion to date has been a good fun time. i recommend as long as your a laid back personality. They're easy going people there so if you want the server at your table every 3 seconds, this isn't the spot for you. (frankly, I cant stand restaurants like that. Give me SPACE! haha)
Rude!!! Rude & Rude. If I could give this place a zero, I would. I live two blocks away from this place so my husband and I walked over  to grab a drink. We walked in and notice a sign that said "please seat yourself" no problem. We found a nice table with a good  view to the game. However, we waited about 15 minutes with no service, actually the waitress walked by us with a stinky eye over and over and never once greeted us or even asked us if we were ready to order. NOTHING!! I mean  really??
We just walked out and headed to another Irish pub down the street.
Note: More like 4.5 stars
It's hard for me to give this place anything but a great review. I live like two minutes away (walking), so it's the closest bar/restaurant from my apartment.
The food is not going to satisfy your inner foodie, or rave to your friends and parents. It is, however, simple, reasonably priced, and pretty damn good.
The service is almost always quick and friendly (we have been unnoticed on the patio once or twice, but that was probably our own fault).
Good beer selection, and good prices on booze as well for that matter.
Not sure what else to say. As much as I like this place, it is somewhat unspectacular. I just happen to go here like two times a week since it's so close, so I definitely can't hate on it. Can get a bit crowded on weekend nights, but really, what bar in this area isn't crowded at those times?
Anyway, I'll keep going, and I'll keep bringing my friends here for drinks and food when they come by my place.
Notable dishes:
The bacon/jalapeno/tater tots are super bomb. Ask for some of their awesome curry sauce to dip them in (the aioli is good, but that curry sauce is the business). Only downside is they're a bit pricey - $6 for only like 7 or 8 tots. Still worth it, imo.
The seared ahi salad is great. I ate that on every trip for like 10 visits. Huge portion too.
Almost all the sandwiches and burgers I've had there are great, especially the Finn McCool (anything with a fried egg is generally a must order for me), the French Dip, and the Turkey Dip.
Biggest downside I've personally had is that, of all things, their Irish food is shockingly bad for a supposed Irish establishment. Could have just been an off night, but turned me off from ordering any of it on later visits.
Also, good for sports on TV and, if you're a smoker like me, relaxing on the patio and having a cig.
If you're in the neighborhood, it's a great little spot to just kick back and have a beer!
This review is not meant to trash this restaurant completely. Â Rather, it's meant to criticize one particular experience. Â We went to dinner here last night with some friends. Â It was Tuesday, "Buy one burger, get one free" night. Â Our friends ordered two of the vegetarian burgers. Â A full 5 to 10 minutes after taking our order, our server came back to announce that the kitchen had only one veggie patty left. No offer to substitute something else, no "how can we make this right for you", no nothing. Â And when our friend was noticeably upset, the server told her she didn't have to be mean. Â Really?
To start with, most restaurants have a chalk board where servers can see what items the kitchen is very low on or out of. Â Secondly, servers should be trained and given the latitude to do what's necessary to make sure the customers are satisfied with their dining experience. Â This was not the case on our visit to Gallagher's.
Update: Â Yesterday (3/14/13) I was subjected to a couple of poorly written responses to this review via Yelp messaging. Â I'm guessing it was the server mentioned in this review who wrote the response, but not sure. Â Anyway, the jist of the responses was that our friend, mentioned in the review, is a pain in the butt and should not come back. Â I noted in my response to her that we have been back on a few occasions and have experienced less than stellar service. Â She then shot back that I was just a complainer and that I too should find another bar/restaurant to frequent. Â I suggest that, before going to his establishment, you read through their reviews and see what you think. Â Apparently there are a lot of "complainers" out there!
I don't frequent Irish bars very often, but this one was recommended by a friend, so I checked it out. Â I was told to get the breakfast shot and I'm glad I did. Â Its a mixed shot of Jameson's and butterscotch schnapps. Â Chased with orange juice and a piece of bacon. Â I ended up getting two before I got my food. Â Prices for food were pretty reasonable. I ordered the reuben sandwich, an item I rarely get at any restaurant but was in the mood for it. Â It looked very appetizing when it arrived. Â Rye bread was grilled and I couldn't believe how much corned beef was on it. Â I had soup with it and was pretty full in the end. Â If you're a dog person, you'll be pleased to know that you're allowed to have your dog on the patio instead of having them tied up on the other side of the fence. Â I would come back here next time I'm in Long Beach
Review Source:RUDE RUDE RUDE! This place has terrible food to start and the servers and service are the worst ever. The first time I came here they overcharged me. And the second experience included my friend being told to leave the establishment or the police would be called on her, all for having a Mexican government ID. THEY F*CKING THREATENED TO CALL IMMIGRATION ON Â HER! This place is run by a bunch of idiot, racist, bigots that don't know anything about business. They lost a huge party of over ten people buying many drinks and food. Â Thank god this is Long Beach and there's a sports bar on every corner. DON'T EVER COME HERE!
Review Source:Was disappointed by our visit today. Â The wait staff were rude initially and once we found a table to sit down, we sat there for 25 minutes without ANY acknowledgement or assistance so we left and went to another place. Too bad because we would have loved to stay and give them our business.
Review Source:Came on Sunday for football and had a great experience.
They open at 9am on Sundays...we got there at 9:20 and if we would have come even 10 minutes later we probably would have had a hard time finding a seat near/facing one of the TVs. We were there specifically for the 10am Chargers game which was only showing on one TV (they have a ton of TVs all along the walls and behind the bar), and we were lucky enough to snag a table directly in front of it.
We ordered quickly because the place started filling up FAST right at 9:30. They have $6.00 unlimited mimosas until 2pm I believe and although they aren't SUPER fast at refilling, they do their best at walking around with pitchers of mimosa every 15 minutes or so. I ordered the ham and eggs and my date had the corned beef hash and eggs, both were good and better than most Irish Pub breakfasts...I would def order food here again and the people next to us ordered from the lunch menu and their food looked even better.
There were a TON of Green Bay fans here so it will get loud but it's kinda fun (unless you hate GB I guess). Â
We stayed until around 1pm and left with a good buzz. I will say, the mimosas are NOT strong and the OJ kinda sucked, so we had to drink a ton of them (plus a bloody mary which was delish) to get that buzz, but whatever, $6.00.
This will probably be my go-to Sunday football spot from now on (or until I find somewhere better).
Before this spot was called Gallagher's it was Key Largo and that is when my love for this neighborhood gem start to grow ;) it has been Gallagher's for YEARS now and I still love the spot.
I live in the neighborhood and have for years so it's a great local spot I can walk to whenever I like...weather it be for Tuesday's 2 for 1 (Dunglow) Burger or the bottomless mimosa's on a weekend morning, they know what the people like and they do a great job at providing just that!
The servers are very nice, sometimes the service is slow but it's a kick back neighborhood spot so I'm not mad at anyone.
Tuesday night you can't go wrong with a Dunglow Burger, it's just the perfect combo!
It's fun to watch Laker's games here too, if you get there early enough to find a decent seat.
CHEERS!@
Love / Hate kind of place..
Love the food (Bomb A$$ Burgers!!!)
Hate the customer service!
Not sure if they are that busy, but my girlfriend and I have gone in when they were not visually busy, but they might have been busy mentally or subconsciously (sarcastic) because we had to wipe our own table down and get a servers attention in order for us to order!
This place is fun. Â dont expect your bartender to be an expert in mixology or anything like that... but they have a few good beers on tap, all the liquor one can consume and to top it all off they have VERY above average bar food.
Let's remember this place is a PUB and then a grill... and it's not trying to play the role of these new wussy "gastro-pubs" or whatever... I am not even clear on what gastropub even is...
That said, their food is pretty damn good. Â I usually get the corned beef sandwich with coleslaw on the side, or the grilled chicken sandwich however their buffalo wings and Irish nachos are pretty grub too...
whatever you do, do not leave here without eating the bacon wrapped jalapeno tater tots... oh my lord... so good.
oh and they have Harp on tap... what Irish pup would be complete without Smithwicks and Harp on tap?
After I read the reviews about bikes always getting stolen I was skeptical go this place again. But this past Saturday I went and WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THAT PLACE IF IT WAS THE LAST IRISH PUB ON EARTH.
You would think if the place was as dead as it was on Saturday afternoon during a major sporting event it would be easy to get good service, WRONG! When we showed up the tables outside were still a mess from earlier in the day. So we had to clean our own table off to sit down for starters. After we did that we thought this would  maybe catch the attention of one of the service staff, WRONG AGAIN!
There was only a party of 3 people on the patio, 5 including us. We never once got asked if we would like a drink, menu or anything. Whats even more pathetic is we were sitting right next to the entrance/exit of the kitchen!
So after about 30 mins one of the bartenders came outside and finally asked us if we needed anything. She was very nice and professional. She apologized  and covered for the poor server by "saying she thought  someone else was serving us". So after that we thought ok we will finally get some service, WRONG AGAIN!
We ordered some curry chips. Everything came in a timely manner, but the waitress failed to give us plates or even napkins. Also I just had finished my beer from the bar I had ordered and didn't ask me if wanted another. I believe the bartender came down on our server and she took out on us, the customer. Kudos to the bartender for trying to make it right(reason for two stars), but sorry I wont be going back to this place EVER.
Cover charge at 10:30 in the MORNING!!! Went in early on St. Patty's day for breakfast and a couple of drinks to start the big day and was slammed with a $10 cover. So much for a Irish pub that relies heavily on community support throughout the year, to be there for us on the biggest Irish holiday day there is. Major price gouging.Of course they did not have any specials, which I was okay with, given the crowds, but a 10AM cover??? I don't mind a cover in the afternoon or evening, but for breakfast?
I could have given a one star for the food alone. I have never had a piece of toast served to me that I could BREAK inot pieces. Stale bread? I don't cook at all, but I can at least do toast.
If there was an option to give zero stars, I would NOT have, only because of the service. The girls did a pretty good job, considering the crowds.
I have seen the owner of Gallagher's around town, this is his coomunity, so I was saddened that he chose to gouge the people he socializes with. I used to look up to him and was grateful for him providing a mostly fun Irish pub, but not anymore. Shame.
I will probably be back, because it is usually an okay place and my friends mostly like it, but I would not suggest it if  asked.
So I came here Wednesday night to play their weekly trivia with some friends. Â After getting lost because the damn 22 is till closed we finally were able to find the place...and just in time for the trivia to start.
At first glance it's your typical Irish Pub, with some cool swords up high on the wall. Â They also have a decent selection of TV's so that no matter where you sit you can see one. Â The menu is again your typical Irish Pub food...with tater tots. Â
I ordered the steak sandwich with tater tots...I love me some tots.  The sandwich was just OK, nothing great and I only ate half.  The tater tots were perfectly salted and crunchy but with all do respect its not exactly hard to deep fry a tot.  My fiancé got the bangers and chips which he said was good although he didn't finish it which is weird for him since that's his favorite dish.  So overall, food was fine but nothing to write home about. Â
The service was blah. Â At first it was good but then our waitress decided to play the "disappearing act" and we never saw her again. Â We had dirty plated in front of us for about 45 minutes from when we all stopped eating.....no bueno. Then once our plates finally got cleared we literally didn't see her again for 2 1/2 hours...thank goodness we were playing Trivia, which was running later then its usual time period. Â We were wanting to pay our check and it took quite a while before she even came around to our area. On another note, the trivia they do it fun and challenging, I wouldn't do it every week but its something fun to mix into the pastime. Â
So overall the place was fine, not too bad but nothing great. Â I won't go out of my way to come back here, especially since Pub's are a dime a dozen. Â Oh, also, they automatically charge your card a 20% gratuity which goes away when the chare actually go through on your account...weird but now you're warned.
Before moving from Belmont Bluff, this was my bar of choice. Mainly, because I could get a Guinesse and their food was pretty spectacular for a bar. Â Now, the caveot is that I haven't eaten at you in well over a year and a half.
You see, I am now too busy acting like an adult, living my suburban life, tending to my wife and children and generally have no time for myself.
Yes, gone are the worry free days of cruising down on your bike and having a nice meal and a few brews. Or swinging by on the motorcycle after a ride down PCH on a Sunday afternoon.
I am sure little has changed at Gallaghers, that darn Notre Dame flag still flies and the patio is where you want to be on a warm summer evening.
I miss you, G.
Gallaghers is a great place to have a beer and some nachos. I love them as a bar and have had some GREAT nights there. The Pub Quiz is fun and they have live music a lot.
On the down side, the quality of the food seems to have gone down, and the waitstaff is hit or miss. The atmosphere and the fact that they have Smithwicks on tap keep me coming back though.
This bar seems to be a darling among my LB friends and I get why.
* It's a cool spot with a DJ
* They have a dance floor!
* No line or cover.
But EH....nothing made me feel like this place was better than 3 stars. The kitchen was closed by midnight, so I didn't get to try their food. An update to follow once I eat here.
What I need to do is come back for this Bottomless Mimosa deal I keep reading about. I'm sure I'll bump it up a star (or two).
DON'T RIDE YOUR BIKE HERE - well, unless you are trying to get rid of it. Â When my bike was stolen last night the staff told me how it happens all the time. Â Their cameras have blind spot that the thief knows about it, so that's where he always steals from (last few spaces of the bike rack). He cuts the locks and takes off down the alley. I know that this is a problem in long beach but Gallaghers is easy hunting for a bike theif.
The bouncer has had 2 bikes stolen and some wheels. The waitress's husband had his bike stolen. I talked to the owner and he confirmed that it happens quite frequently: same place same MOhe said recently there have been about 4-5. If this was my business; I would install a camera that covered that "blind spot" after the first couple times something was stolen from my property. Â On the bright side all the staff was really empathetic and helpful. They made me feel like they cared.
Other than the bike thing, my experience was so so. Â The seared ahi plate was super good, one of the best I have had in awhile. Â My BF had an impressive burger for $6! Â The place was pretty dead, especially for Halloween night yet the service was painfully slow. Â Our waitress was very nice which kind of made up for it taking about 20 minutes to get our first round of Irish car bombs. Â They were missing the whiskey, just milky beer (yuck). Â The second round was prepared correctly. Â My Jack and coke was good as well.
A night at Gallagher's Pub & Grill is like being groped by a frat boy on prom night; the experience is uncomfortable, forgettable and goes on way too long.
I really wanted to like this place, but what a continued disappointment. Â I've been here several times over the past two years and it seems to be really going downhill. I love Irish Pubs, so I have really tried to give this place a fair shake, but alas, they have proven time and time again this is probably the worst Irish Bar in Long Beach. My last visit will definitely be my final experience for a variety of reasons...
One. The staff is miserable. I don't know if the girls are just burnt out (I've seen what seem to be a few 'lifers' here) or if management is poor, but the attitude is awful. Â In my opinion, attitude reflects leadership; the owner/manager really needs to shake things up.
Two. I don't think I've had one memorable bartender here. They seem to blend in with the back ground, no personality, no flair. My last bartender was about as bland as their overcooked cabbage.
Three. The regular afternoon drunkard crowd is the weirdest mix of ne'er-do-wells you will ever see in Long Beach.
If you want Irish Pub, go to the The Auld Dubliner at the Pike or O'Malley's in Seal Beach. If you want that "get me outta' here" feeling, I think my prom night analogy is apt.
You know what I love? You probably don't. Maybe you do. There's a lot. Anyway, it's probably not what you think in this case, though.
Deals. I love deals. I'm a sucker for deals. It's probably due to my childhood brainwashing: I was raised to think that my family was poor and not a bite of food or drop of drink was to be wasted. We weren't quite to the extreme where we'd rinse and dry out used paper towels and reuse them, but I do remember adding water to almost-empty ketchup bottles. Same with shampoo that's about to run out. Just add water and presto! More shampoo/ketchup/soda. Ok, not soda. Ovaltine though - we started to have really diluted Ovaltine once we hit the bottom of the tin. Suffice to say I was taught to be frugal.
Anyway, I'm not ashamed to use coupons at restaurants, take advantage of specials, claim it's my birthday for a freebie. I'm not above it. Now you combine that love of free/discounted with pub food and drinks... well now, whoaaaa nellie!
Which is why I love Gallagher's. Every day they run some sort of drink/food special. I'm particularly fond of Tuesday's, when they offer two-for-one burgers. (Finn McCool, aside from obviously being a cool name for a burger, is also mighty tasty with that fried egg on top.) On top of their deals, Gallagher's also shows most major (and minor) sporting events, and is one of the few local pubs to showcase both types of football, NFL and soccer. On top of the top of that, they also have weekly quiz nights on Wednesdays (gonna have to try that soon!) as well as karaoke on Thursdays. (Coinciding with their $10.95 prime rib dinner night. I can't think of anything better to pair with prime rib than horseradish with a side of karaoke.)
But WAIT! says Billy Mays from his grave. On Sundays, they also feature (along with your choice of NFL game) bottomless mimosas. Inflation has jacked up the price to $6, but bottomless anything alocholic for that cheap a price is well worth it, let alone champagne. Ok, it's SHAMpagne, more like sparkling white wine, but who's quibbling. Chances are, if I break free from the couch-induced inertia on Sundays, you'll find me here at Gallagher's. Actually, there's an equal chance on any other night, since they seem to have something going on just about every day.
Gallagher's: A Love Letter
Dear Gallagher,
I know we've had some rough times in the past. Sure, there was the time it took you thirty minutes to deliver my meal, and then delivered the wrong one. I get it, you're a busy guy. Lots of gals are knocking down your down for a piece of your Irish Nachos or your Finn McCool burger. I'm just one of many.
You know what, though? I'm okay with that. I'll be just another girl in your lineup so long as you keep those bottomless mimosas coming every Sunday morning. Because we all know nothing cures a booze-induced hangover like more booze. Plus...two for one burgers on Tuesdays? How can a girl turn down a guy who offers double the meat once a week?
Through the ups and downs, I know we'll always be there for each other...especially on those Sunday mornings. ...See ya soon, Gallagher.
Love and kisses,
Hazel Q
