Found this little gem of a cafe on Yelp and could not have had a better lunch! It's cold and rainy and inside its warm and the live music is uplifting! The Chicken Lime soup and the Quinoa Tabouli is fantastic! Love this place!!

My friend and I wanted to have lunch in Overland Park. So we chose Great Day Cafe. The limited menu offers panini's, sandwiches, spring rolls,, sides, all with a healthy flair.

We ordered. Panini's are 9.38, and you get a side, the choice is interesting in sides. I chose the quinoa. Then you are given a table marker with words like "Relaxed" or "rowdy." You find a table, which can be difficult.

When we were there, musicians were playing folksy, soft jazz. It made for an interesting background, but not so loud you can't talk.

Our food arrived, and it was delicious. I had the portabelo panini, and it was everything I thought it would be. A sliced portabelo mushroom, cheese, red peppers and other ingredients, warmed on asiago bread. Childfen of the party next to me (who I just  happened to know), played with hugging salt and pepper shakers.  You may have to look for those. But do look for them.

The atmosphere is hipster or green. Green as in a near catchy vegan restaurant or hipster like aura with tunes in the background. Personally I love this place, cause there's no other restaurant like this in Kansas City. I'm drawn to locations like this.  It feels good to eat here.

Me and my friend chose this place to eat at because we were headed to the Overland Park Farmer's market and for me it kept the theme of that nicely.

I ordered the you pick 2.  1/2 caprese sandwich with a house salad toped with feta and cranberries and when they asked walnuts or pecan's for the salad topping the very nice man behind the counter did not even batter an eye when I said both but happily obliged.

The table marker they gave us said "relaxed" and though we sat at the community table next to the "rowdy" marker:  a family with small children, it was all in good fun!

My opinion is this place serves good food, has live music on a Saturday afternoon, art on the walls, friendly servers is just a plain good idea and I will definitely be back.

I was looking for a spot in northern OP to grab lunch with Grandma (Meme) and my college-age son. Meme's a big fan of Wendy's but I really wanted to eat something real, and since I was driving, I chose Great Day Cafe.

There was plenty of seating for our little group when we arrived for a late lunch. I love the casual atmosphere of the place.

I ordered at the counter for us: the kid and I each had different panini's (roasted chicken asaigo, and black forrest ham and swiss respectively), Meme the tuna salad on wheat. I had an iced tea, a chai latte for the kid and Meme stuck with water.

The kid's chai must have been really good, I didn't get so much as a sip. My iced tea was something a little fruity, really yummy. I'm not even ashamed to say that I refilled my cup 3 times.

Food arrived shortly, the sandwiches are big and the paninis served hot from the press. I had a side of the quinoa tabouli, it was tangy and crispy and just fantastic. The kid's sandwich was inhaled... he loved it. Meme could only eat half of her tuna but made sure I got her a box so she could have the rest of it later. My ham and swiss came with tangy French mustard and was served on fresh bread... oh so good! I too could only eat half but I was excited to finish it the next day.

I wish Great Day much success, hope you guys are around for a nice long time so we can go back again and again.

Great Day was my first discovery when I moved to within walking distance of downtown OP.  The food is really reliably good.  It used to be they were only open from 10 to 2, but they've extended their hours into the evenings on Fridays and Saturdays now, which is a real improvement.  Still, it's easy to miss them for lunch during the week, and they aren't open on Sundays at all, so it's not the kind of place you can just show up anytime.    Last time I checked, it was still order at the counter, though they were talking about table service.  Honestly I prefer to order at the counter, and am sad to see that changing.

It's a soups and sandwiches kind of thing, with a nice variety of sandwiches that includes roast beef, ham and swiss, and chicken salad, but also portobello mushroom and roasted eggplant.  They serve a cranberry and pecan salad that I would eat for desert, and different soups every day of the week.  Friday is baked potato soup day.  Make a note.   The half and half combo that gives you smaller portions of a couple of different things is the way to go.  The portions are not huge but they're not dainty either, and the prices seem right for what you get.

Free wi-fi and coffee refills make this the kind of place you could settle in for a while, as long as you don't want it quiet, because there is live music a lot of the time.  If it's not scheduled performances, it's one of the owners, who plays a variety of instruments himself.  Both owners are always there and checking in with their customers.  It's the kind of place where Kansas City seems to shrink down to a small town.  I'm pretty sure they get their pies from the pie shop down the street.  Their outdoor seating is lovely when the weather is nice,

This is a quirky place, full of bright colors and local art and funny little wind up toys on the tables. Sometimes the bright colors and liveliness feel a little overboard for me, but it makes this cafe memorable, and with food that is always good and owners who are always welcoming, I'm happy to spend time there even though whimsical cuteness is not normally my favorite thing.  I admit to being kind of charmed.

I've been there by myself and with my kids. Both times were great.

I've always gone for breakfast and fancy their crepes. My son loves their scones. What we love more, though, is the atmosphere. The kids love the crossword puzzles left on the table, my daughter goes to the bathroom about three times so she can check out the 'take what you need' flyers and they both love the art on the walls.

We think it's pretty special that the owner plays sax while we eat breakfast, and the kids have never been so excited to go buy veggies at the farmer's market because they know we will stop here for a bit.

Take a step back in time where everyone is laid back, positive and seems like they  take a page out of the 60's.  You'll hear a lot of "right on man" and "that's a groovy shirt you have on."  The owner plays a slew of instruments while people eat their sandwiches, soups and salads while telling everyone to "relax, because this is not fast food, it's laid back food."

There is local art on the wall, all sorts of catchy signs with cool sayings and some of the nicest people working you'll ever meet.  But, it's not about the nostalgia, it's about the food.  They serve up great cafe goods, all served on freshly baked bread, veggies from the local farmers, and great local meats too.  The bottom line, everything is fresh.

Take a stroll through the Overland Park Farmers Market, then get your butt over to Great Day Cafe.  Your libido and stomach will thank you.

We were lucky to find this place.  Looked on Yelp to find some great places in the area for a quick lunch and this one hit the radar.  I am glad that it did.

We arrived and walked in to hear a jazz clarinetist.  There was art on the walls.  The guy behind the counter was friendly.  They had a great rosemary-infused lemonade.  Was quirky and may be an acquired taste but it was good.

Ordered a reuben.  Looked awesome and tasted the same.  The asiago chicken sandwich and cranberry nut salad were also a hit.

The weather on the patio was perfect.  I guess management put in that request before my arrival.  Two golden stars for that one.

Dogs were welcome on the patio too.  I always like that.

Will be back next time I am in the area.  Highly recommended.

I ended up here on a happy accident and am glad I did.  We walked in and immediately felt comfortable.  It has a very casual, neighborhood cafe type of feel.  It's so casual that you just order at the counter, they give you a cute sign with something descriptive on it (our said Lucky) and find yourself a table.

It was lunchtime on a Tuesday and my friend and I were really just happy to be inside out of the 100 degree weather.  While we waited for our food, the owner actually started playing some music in the make-shift stage area in the corner.  While I thought this was an unexpected and nice event to happen during lunch, I found myself getting a little annoyed that my lunch partner and I couldn't have a conversation because of the volume.  Since we were out to partly discuss work, this was a little inconvenient.  But kudos to the owner for offering up a little fun for lunchtime folks.

I ordered the Mac & Cheese and my friend ordered the daily quiche.  My Mac & Cheese was very creamy with just the right amount of cheesiness and some crispy jalapeño chips on top.  It was very busy while we were there and our food came out in a reasonable amount of time.

Very cute place that I'll definitely be returning to.

We loved this place. The food was well made, the coffee was good, and the atmosphere was relaxed and hip. However not much in the way of vegan options. This is a great local business that deserves your support.

I walk in at 1:15PM for lunch.  There is one table with people at it and they already have their food.  I order a Rueben with the pasta salad.  20 minutes later I get my food!  Really?  20 minutes to throw some meat and kraut on some bread and toast it?  I'll never go here if there's actually anyone else waiting.

The sandwhich was OK, not nearly enough meat especially for what it costs.

I'm not hip enough to eat here again.

We really lucked into finding this place!  We were driving in old OP looking for a place for lunch - what an unexpected surprise!!  I had half portabella and roasted red pepper panini and salad with cranberries and pecans.  The bread was nutty grains and was delish!  My friend had the turkey and havarti sandwich with pasta salad.  The staff is attentive and FUN - I can't wait to go back!

I love this place.  Food is much better than you would expect, prices are reasonable.  There is often music.  All in all a family party mood and a lot of fun.  Sandy and Greg Tugman are responsible for the warm welcome.

Solid spot. Although I am typically a Reuben purist (corned beef, sauerkraut, dark rye, Swiss cheese, Russian dressing), their version which used Pastrami and marbled rye was still quite tasty. I think the kicker was the horseradish - a great zing to the overall experience. Great atmosphere and love that the owners are as active in the operations as they are. The music rounded out the experience - electric guitar, bass, percussion, and one of the owners playing a variety of brass instruments as well as adding vocals.

We stopped here for lunch after visiting Penzeys and were not disappointed.  Cute atmosphere, delicious food and the owner sang and played flute, sax and oboe (?) during the lunch hour.  My lunch partner and I had the same meal and it was good enough to make me want to return again.  We had the soup special which as chicken lime (broth) and basmati rice; and we also had a chicken panini with artichoke spread, spinach and roasted tomatoes.

They offered some yummy looking desserts but we were too full to try.  Maybe next time!

Best place in the world. Everyone should go. It is like nothing you have ever seen. The food is the best, but the people are unbelievable. You just have to go and see for yourself.

This place has been 3 different places in the last 5 years so I write this review somewhat cringingly, as I can only hope that they succeed where the others have failed.

I stopped by here recently for a chat with one of my staff.  Service was quick (but alas, there was no one in there!) and the tables and ornaments (they have "hugging" salt and pepper shakers - you'll see what I mean) are charming.

Check it out and support it....otherwise it may not stay here...

French Toast and the Chef even sings to his mom.  Quaint.  Food is good, the singing covers up sounds of the kids.

I like the atmosphere here a lot. It feels like your neighborhood coffee shop. The staff is friendly and theres live music on Wednesdays.

I've only stopped in for coffee and unfortunately they've messed it up the last two of the three visits. It's not hard, an iced americano with vanilla. I get it, take a sip and find they left out the flavoring....again. So they smile and fix it. But really that's a simple thing and I'm not sure how they keep missing it.

Maybe sometime I'll try some of their food. Their wraps and soups usually sound good.

This is where Red Bench Café used to be until it closed, but I'll be honest, it seems pretty much the same.  The food and drink menus are incredibly similar and the process of ordering at the counter and then taking a toy back to your table as your identifier is really similar too.  So the owner might be the same actually.  Well the food was comparable, so I'm giving it the same number of stars that I gave Red Bench Café.  Food is good.  Prices aren't TOO extreme.  The place is very cute and has an awesome patio area that will be nice to eat at when the weather cooperates.

I love the atmosphere of this cafe! It has a very welcoming feel to it, and a perfect place to go read a book or catch up on some homework (the comfy red couch is definitely a plus!). Everybody who works there is really friendly as well.

I ordered the French toast and was very impressed. Best French toast I've ever had, hands down. The presentation of it was so pretty, too! I also had a latte, which I found to be quite good.

They serve breakfast and lunch here, and they serve breakfast all day. That was nice because we were craving breakfast and it was around noon.

The breakfast was great and fairly priced, we also ordered smoothies. They forgot the order, but it wasn't a big deal they were very apologetic and the smoothies came out 3 minutes later with 2 free cookies.

We finally have found a local breakfast place, that there is not a half-hour wait with friendly service.
