My husband, son, and I tried this place for the first time last week. We had high hopes because my husband loves German food, but they were quickly dashed. Our first clue should have been the fact that on a weekend night, the place was nearly deserted.

Despite being empty, we waited at the door for quite a bit, finally seating ourselves in the bar area. Apparently they only have one person for the door and she was seating someone else. I wonder what they would do if they actually got busy?

The bar area was cozy, but the music was way too loud. I'm not sure if they are trying to be a fine dining restaurant or a pub. The bartender was also our server, and when she came to the table, she almost seemed mad that we were there. My son had a hard time ordering and she was very impatient with him. I think she may have been new though because when I asked her questions about the food, she had to grab her glasses and read with me because she didn't know the menu. I tried to forgive her not knowing the menu, but throughout the entire dining course, she was very distant and not very friendly.

The food was average, but nothing special. Portions were huge. Too huge. Apparently the owners didn't get the memo: quality over quantity. I guess they got by with average food in rural areas, but here in Oakley there are so many much better choices for the price range. The pretzel app is basically just super pretzels warmed up. The pasta was average. My husband said the schnitzel was decent, but the spatzel was cold and rubbery, and the broccoli was mushy and had brown spots.

Overall, I will not be coming back and I will not be recommending this place. There are much better choices in Oakley.

This place opened up a block away from my house, so my husband and I finally went there Friday night. They won't be open much longer, unless some miracle happens.
The dining room peaked at about a third full. Service was friendly, but awkward and unpolished, and suffering from a severe lack of menu knowledge.
They kept the Oktoberfest menu, apparently due to its popularity. We ordered the pretzels and beer cheese from it and were very dissatisfied. Better pretzels can be found in the freezer aisle at kroger's, they were covered in a pound of salt, and the beer cheese tasted exactly like melted Velveeta, with no hint of beer flavor whatsoever.
We didn't complain; our philosophy is to just not go back if we are disappointed.
The entrees redeemed our visit, however. My chicken Marsala with mushroom ravioli was rich and tasty, and my husband's seafood pasta was good too, although oddly smothered with fried calamari.
The special martini I ordered was too sweet, the wine pours seem a bit small for the price, but the beer list seems worth exploring.
All in all, we will go back. We like how close it is to our house, and we like to support local restaurants.
I have high hopes for next time, and I will upgrade my rating if our experience improves.

Wow! Huge portions and delicious food! What else could I ask for?? Well, more parking..but other than that this was a great experience. This was my first visit to Great Scott and I will definitely be going back, except next time my husband and I will order 1 meal to share! The fish and chips was amazing, the french fries was delicious, the cole slaw was yummy! I absolutely loved the fried pickles and can't wait to go back even if just for them!
