We had my son's college graduation party here - FANTASTIC!
The food was delicious, the servers exceptionally pleasant, the interior very pretty, and the owner/chef Greg was very helpful with planning the menu. Â
Our dinner began with Classic Caesar Salad with creamy lemon-garlic dressing, followed by the most delicious Rigatoni Bolognese (a few guest had seconds). Â Next was a choice from one of three: Â Chicken Gregorio, egg battered chicken scaloppini with exotic mushrooms, garlic and a lemon sauce; Pistachio Crusted Salmon, with butternut squash risotto, spinach and a red wine sauce; or Balsamic Glazed Pork Tenderloin with spinach, garlic mashed potatoes and balsamic vinegar glaze. - Everything was delicious! Â There was even a special children's menu for three children whose ages range from two to six years old.
Since GREGORIOS is BYOB - We went to Gary's (see Sara she will match wines to your meal). Â We dropped off everything two days before the party. Â Chef Greg had everything chilled properly and the wine arranged beautifully on a front table. Â We picked-up an all chocolate graduation cake from Natale's, which Chef Greg served with a scoop of yummy vanilla ice cream. Â A lovely ending to a truly pleasant experience. Â P.S. They have great coffee too!
I was extremely impressed by this quaint small town restaurant. The service was excellent and the food was delicious.
I had the Mahi Mahi.... Fabulous!
The fried calamari was the best I've ever had. Â It is served with a different sauce on the side, but don't be alarmed, its amazing with the dish.
Its a BYOB, so that's always a lot of fun.
Quaint, cozy and delicious food. Â Can't beat it! Â
Great choice!! Â Enjoy!!!!
Really good Italian food. I hear a lot of people complaining about the Italian/Mediterranean distinction... I say f*** it; it's good food. BYOB is nice, and the scallops (if they offer any when you go) are rockin. I'm a big fan of the pans seared tuna as well. Pasta is always fresh, always cooked perfectly if you ask me, and the wait staff is very nice. All around good.
Review Source:Sundays in November mean one thing to me. Â Football. Â Except for that one time a year, or at least it seems, when I have to give up my Sunday and attend a Christening. Â Replacing football with crying babies is not my ideal way of spending a Sunday, which according to God, is supposed to be a day of rest. Â But i digress.
After the scintillating sermon was given by the priest and the babies had been "baptized", we headed over to Gregorio's for dinner.
I parked in the back of Gregorio's and came in through the back door. *Ahem* Â Our party took up the entire room that is Gregorio's, a medium sized space with a decent sized bar. Â
Not knowing about this restaurant, I wasn't fixated, like previous Yelpers, as to whether it served a Mediterranean cuisine or not. Â I just knew it was Italian and that was all that mattered. Â On to the food. Â Our set menu consisted of an appetizer, a first course, a choice of three entrees, and dessert. Â
The appetizer was a sun-dried tomato pine nut pesto filling, tomato salad and basil oil. Â Fantastic! Â I know, it's hard to make a bad fried cheese, and so while I enjoyed it, I still wondered how the rest of the food would be. Â
The first course was a Gemelli al Pomodoro, basically pasta in a tomato basil sauce. Â While I did enjoy the sauce, the pasta was too hard for my taste. Â Granted, I prefer my pasta to be "scotta", or overcooked, but it was definitely not served al dente. Â
For the main course we had a choice of three entrees.  The first, A Grilled Pork Involtini, was ordered by some and were said to be good.  Gregorio's called them rolls but they looked more to me like links to me.  The second option was a Chicken Scaloppine, which is basically a battered lemon chicken.  In my opinion, Veal  Scaloppine is better, but not many people these days are okay with eating veal.  The third entree and the one I opted for, the piece de resistance, was a Pistachio Crusted Salmon served on top of Butternut Squash Risotto, with spinach and in a red wine sauce.  Salmon is not one of my favorite fish to eat but the pistachio crust was phenomenal.  The risotto was cooked perfectly.  I tried to savor it and didn't want to finish it.  The spinach was, well, spinach.
The dessert consisted of a cake that the parents of the baby provided. Â I had a double espresso, twice, so in actuality I had a quadruple espresso. Â Wine makes me sleepy so I needed something to counteract it. Â It worked. Â
All in all, everything was wonderful at Gregorio's  From the courteous wait staff, to the friendly bartender, and all the way up to the lovely manager/owner.  If I lived closer, surely I'd go back.
I can't help but wonder if the Giants had been losing, or lost, if I'd still have such a good taste in my mouth regarding my experience at Gregorio's. Â Haha, just kidding! Â I'm not that easily swayed.
I thought it was strange that they call it Italian Mediterranean when most of the menu is just Italian food. Â Maybe I don't get the Italian and Mediterranean together. Â My impression from the name is that their specialities is all kinds of pesce (fish)...particularly from the Meditteranean region say brazino but it's not.
BYOB - that's nice so we don't have to over pay glasses or bottles of wine. Â
Went there on a Thurs. night last week and it was packed. Â Nice to see given the recessionista. Â To me, it's a good sign if the place is packed on a weekday night.
Saw a former manager of Danielle's Bistro and now is a waiter and manager at Greogrio's. Â His name is Hector. Â Nice gentleman and hard worker. Â
Ordered the bosc pear salad....good portion but I would expect more endives and larger slices of pears instead of being diced up and framed around the plate.  I think if they add raddichio to this salad which would make it more colorful and add spiced or honey roasted walnuts that would make the salad a heck more palatable.  For my entree, I had the fettucine with exotic mushrooms and hint of truffle oil.  Again, good portions and the pasta was fresh and bountiful of mushrooms. I thought the dish was delicious and close  to the pasta I had in Italy.
Went there again and the braised lamb shank with mushroom risotto and spinach in a red wine pomegranate sauce is amazing. Â The balsamic glazed pork loin is also tasty.
Didn't had dessert as we drank the wine the whole night.
Kid friendly place? Â Somewhat even though the appearance from the outside doesn't portray that. Â They had a kid's menu and one of those Koala Kare diaper changing areas in the women's bathroom. Â Nice to know for those parents out there. Â
What to improve as a more kid friendly place? - Offer crayons and those coloring pages, a non-breakable cup with straw, a beverage and dessert to go along with the children's meal built into the children's meal price.
Chatham, NJ is a boring place. Â When we got to Gregorio's for our 8pm reservation, the place was buzzing. Â By 9:15, we're getting dessert and the place is dead (as in one other table eating their dessert dead). Â But, this doesn't mean it's not a solid restaurant.
The current listing says the place is Greek/Mediterranean, and I know the awning calls Gregorio's Italian Mediterannean Cuisine, but this is an Italian place. Â If you're coming here looking for Greek food, you are in the wrong place. Â There are no shabbily dressed men outside smoking and drinking coffee, and there's not a hint of foods ending in -aki inside.
Refined carbs like white bread are terrible for you, but Gregorio's bread comes with an awesome roasted tomato spread, so live a little and have some. Â Appetizers are a solid mix of good salads and plates that 2 can easily share. Â My last time here I had a salad special to start with spiced pecans and gorganzola that was really good. Â I'd also recommend the roasted pear salad, crusted fresh mozzarell and the eggplant involtini.
If you're in the mood to stuff your face, get a pasta dish here, the portions are huge. Â I had a squid ink linguini last time with swordfish and shrimp in a light tomato basil sauce. Â I was expecting a little more flavor wise, but it was good. Â Everything here is also very reasonable price wise, pasta dishes run from $14-19, and main entrees go from chicken dishes at $17 to $23-24 for tuna and steak. Â I usually get the pasta here, but the lamb shank is also good. Â
Desserts are basically ok. Â Nothing special, I'd say waste your calories on white bread and pasta and pass on the dessert stuff.
Gregorio's calls itself Italian Mediterranean Cuisine. Â I'm not sure what that is, but the food was good. Â I had a bosc pair salad to start that was very fresh and had a nice blend of flavors. Â Then I had the pork stuffed with mozzarella cheese. Â This was tasty, but the dish was so greasy that it became overwhelming after a few bites. Â The spinach was well prepared as was the fried cheddar potato bite, but the greasiness of the pork overwhelmed the whole dish. Â My friend had the skirt steak which had a nice citrus taste to it. Â I'll try that for my next visit. Â I skipped dessert as the pork dish had me stuffed.
As always, BYOB.
