I love me some Harold's, but this Harold's is my favorite. Â Harold's chicken has a good reputation, anyway. Â They just know what to do with that chicken. Â The last time I was there it was crowded, but I didn't mind the wait. I have never waited more than 20 minutes. Â I ordered a half white with extra slaw. Â I asked for salt, pepper, mild sauce on my order and on the side. Â I have no idea what's in the mild sauce, but it's addicting. Â They cook the chicken to order and it's always piping hot. Â I always rush right home (I only live about a mile from the restaurant), open my bag and get my a Barq's root Beer to go with it. Â To my surprise, I had two extra wings in my order. Â I love this place and the service has been really good. Â I have been eating Harold's for almost 50 years and all of the locations are good, but I like this one the best. Â My nieces who used to live in Chicago always get there Harold's orders whenever they visit, to carry back home. Â They live in California and Atlanta, these days, but you can always find them at a Harold's Chicken Shack whenever they visit. Â If you have never tried harold's, you just have to and don't forget the mild sauce.
Review Source:Customer service is not a staple at any Harold's location, but this one is particularly bad. Â Rude cashiers act as if they are doing you a favor by taking your order. Â Calling in your order is a waste of time, because you'll still wait 30-45min upon arrival. Â Not to mention, the chicken can't compete with the other locations. Â The chicken isn't seasoned properly. Â I would suggest retraining the staff, but I'm certain they were never trained to begin with..
Review Source:I have lived on 35th street for about 10 years and was so excited when this Harold's was built. The food is very fresh and tasty and unlike one reviewer has said the staff is always friendly (not everyone in the neighborhod gives them attitude.) I will continue to come to this location for its convenience, food, and its atmosphere!
Review Source:I have lived in Chicago my entire life and never had Harold's. One night, I decided to venture out and find the place. To my surprise, this one was close by. I checked the reviews and they weren't bad so I gave it a shot.
I ordered a two piece, white meat, with hot sauce.
The meal was around $6. There was a long wait so they threw in a soda. The staff here usually deals with people with shitty attitudes but as long as you give them a smile, they will give you one back. I had a good experience and the food was amazing. I will definitely be back.
This site takes credit cards too!
I have their phone number on speed dial.
Just kidding (not really), but calling in an order of the 7 piece wing Special has saved me many minutes of waiting.
Awesome mild sauce, fries, and coleslaw all included for the price of $6.99 (Recent management has been raising prices for: dinner/white meat/we need to fund the new small TV/the clouds are out...but overall, still well worth it)
One more word of advice: get extra mild sauce on the side. They are 15 cents for a cup, but the stuff is like crack...I think if they didn't charge, I would be overdosing while drinking the sauce
I love southern food... from collard greens to fried gizzards. That said, I like my fried chicken to be juicy and flavored well. The prices were reasonable. We ordered through the security window and our cashier was friendly and welcoming. We got the chicken, gizzards, pizza puff and fries here. Choice of beverage included assorted bottles of Faygo. The chicken was fried well & served on a piece of white sandwich bread. This is just my opinion but I don't consider putting  salt/pepper/hot sauce on the outside of unseasoned food to be a great solution. This was needed sadly since there was not seasoning or flavor otherwise. That goes for the gizzards as well. My fries were soggy and otherwise unremarkable. The pizza puff was fine but I wasn't really there for that. I ended up giving my large order of gizzards to a patron who came in to order himself some. Overall I would say I was underwhelmed :
Review Source:This is the best Harold's in the city. It's a tiny little place and get's kinda busy, so you do wait for your food, but it's worth it. They use the good hotsauce like South Loop and Hyde Park Harolds both do, but they don't charge you extra if you want your sauce on the side like Hyde Park does. South Loop is almost as good, but this location is the best.
They also accept credit and debit cards here.
