Visiting Denver thought this sounded like a fun place to go for lunch. Found a groupon and purchased then went over after a movie only to find a note on the door, we apologize our oven is down, hope to reopen in two days. Ok disappointed but figured we would try again, and so we did, 3 times within a week only to find the same note on the door......really oven is down for more than a week! I wrote to Groupon got my money back, hopefully they will stop selling the coupons as we figure the place is never opening again...what a waste of time. Thankfully there are plenty of other (open and functioning) great places to eat on the area!!!
Review Source:Gotta love the hawt. Best hot dogs I've had in a whle.
This is one of my favorite finds in the Cherry Creek area. found it through a Groupon and it's become a regular go to place for my fiancée and I. The food is always great, the specials are to die for and, while the beer selection is limited, it's great to have a Rouge beer on tap to wash down the hot dog.
It's hard to say which one is best, but the Breckenridge is always GREAT! Blue Cheese and Chive tatter tots or their home made chips are hard to beat.
I was hesitant about a place that focuses on just hot dogs (don't get me wrong, I love them). However, I was pleasantly surprised by the place. Don't get me wrong. It's still a small restaurant that sells hot dogs. Don't go in expecting something more than that. I really liked it though. Lots of options to choose from. You can venture out of your food comfort zone as much or as little as you'd like.
We went on a Friday night and were some of the only people in the place. At first that worried me but quickly I realized that it simply isn't the kind of place people usually go for dinner on the weekend. My parents went at lunch one day and said it was packed. Apparently people prefer it for lunch (which is understandable since there are so many great dinner spots in Cherry Creek). So, if you are a hot dog fan and want to try something a little different, I'd certainly recommend this place.
This is a great restaurant with some innovators behind the menu. I went with the Sonoma, because I love Chicken Apple Sausage, and in my Adult Years I really Like Garlic in Moderation. The Pocket  was great, and the Dog snapped in your mouth, and the juiciness of it was great. And As a Side I was skeptical of the Tater Tawts, wasnt really a fan Growing up. But these Tawts arent for kiddies. Or Atleast Im not sure how much I would share with them. Id be a Greedy Daddy.
I checked out the BLT salad because it comes with Grilled Pork Belly, that thin layer between the Bacon and Skin on the Pig. Its Oh so delicious but I really wanted a Dog. Friendly Employees from the Get Go to the End.
Reviews that I read about this place are part of the reason it's tough for me to trust Yelp. Â Sometimes, you've got to trust your gut, and sometimes that trust comes too late.. Â
I'm currently actively hating my guts, or they are hating me... Or yelp. Â
7pm on a Saturday and the place was empty... An omen, for sure. Â But my logic was simple: Â we'd been out all day, we're not from around here, yelp said it was good, and it's freaking hot dogs... Â You can't screw up hot dogs. Â
Two bites of a Sonoma dog, two of the nastiest, mushiest tater tots ever created, and I know the reviews for the place and its crappy hot pocket sandwiches are from the owners. Â Inedible, even for my cast iron constitution.
The only thing that makes the pillow fight my innards are currently waging worthwhile was watching my son (1) order sea salt and balsamic reduction chips and (2) watching him bite and put back the only one he tried. Â
To his credit, he finished his plain, burnt pig in a blanket. Â He's now crying himself to sleep in our hotel room.
Hawt err Haute err Hawt Dog? Â Seriously, read the truth before another innocent tear is wiped from a kid's face as he winces in a fetal position and prays for sleep, swearing his hatred for hot dogs. Â Kids can't hate hot dogs. Â Shut this place down.
Oh, the iPad checkout held by the waitress as she explains the tipping suggestions and waits for you to sign? Â Stay classy, Hawt Dog.
(Censored)-ing delicious! Â Seriously, amazing food. Â I had no idea going in what i was going to be getting, but their food is superb. Â Hot, fresh, and unique is a killer combo. Â Their tater tots are a perfect compliment to the dogs. Â The staff was friendly, polite, ready to help, and worked quickly and efficiently. Â I will 100% be back.
Review Source:With friendly service and great food, there's yet another go-to gourmet sausage stand in Denver. Â The dog baked inside bread sandwiches are tasty as can be, and I highly suggest both the hawt chips and handmade tater-tots as sides. They've even got a couple of beers on tap. Â I was impressed by their list of daily deals and over the top customer service from the young lady at the counter. It certainly seems like they're after repeat business, and I think that they've earned mine.
Review Source:I wasn't sure what to expect, but the high ratings on yelp pushed me to try The Hawt Dog & Sausage Eatery as we were looking for a place to eat in CC. Â
As I was watching the sausages warm on the grill, get wrapped in dough, and then put thru the oven, I was really excited. Â The food looked wonderful... but that's where the wonderful ended. Â We had tots and chips to start with. Â The tots were good, but I'm not sure I'd call them tots, since they were creamy mashed potatoes inside. Â But anyway, they were good. Â The smoked cajun chips were too smokey, that they tasted burnt. Â The sausages, well, I had the sonoma (grilled tomatoes, burrata cheese, basil, and balsamic drizzle). Â This was the most bland sandwich I'd had in a long time. Â I didn't taste any basil or balsamic drizzle. Â Absolutely no taste to the sausage either. Â It was also very liquidy and made my dough soggy. Â The BF had the Outer Banks and the sausage was so spicy he couldn't eat it. Â Â I don't see him leave food on his plate too often, but he left half his sandwich and half his chips uneaten.
All in all, a disappointing lunch experience.
Matthew S and I come here whenever we are in Cherry Creek, (or when we manipulate our plans to be in Cherry Creek in order to come here). Â They offer a great alternative to the hot dog standard. Â Their sausages are high quality, cut in half, filled with toppings and wrapped in flat bread dough and baked. Â It's delicious and not heavy on enriched bread. Â the sides are original, and they have Paulaner on tap!
Every time I've come here there's an instant Groupon deal too, and I'm always happy to save a couple of bucks. Â All in all a good spot for a bite, it's very much worth checking out.
A nice place with excellent service and great food. Â The lady behind the counter was friendly and patiently explained the menu to us newcomers. Â The food is very unique with the gourmet dogs/sausages wrapped in a dough pocket with all the topping. Â My wife tried the Big Omaha, and I tried the Outer Banks and we thought both were delicious. We also had the Spinch salad, which was out of this world! Â We will definitely be back to try others on the menu.
Review Source:When I first sat down to eat I thought "Yep, a very solid 4-star place". But as I ate I started to realize three things: they have unique offerings, I was getting more and more sad as the food was disappearing so fast, and the service was impeccable.
Their dogs/sausages come encased in a deep fried pocket that somehow still tastes like a hot dog bun. This gives them the flexibility to stuff these suckers with whatever they want. I had the French Q, which had andouille sausage links with shrimp gumbo. Absolutely awesome. And as messy as it sounds, it was easy to eat because of the pocket. Genius!
Can't stop there though. The pickles that came with the dog were a surprising standout. They're homemade with garlic and chili powder, giving them less of the pickled taste and a bit of kick. I normally don't like pickles, but I'd eat these guys with or on anything.
And then there are the homemade tots. Course salt and chives with bleu cheese dipping sauce, these guys are the perfect sidekick to your dog/sausage.
The service was fantastic. The lady behind the counter was very friendly, and came over and filled my water glass a couple times. This is an order-at-the-counter place, mind you. I also witnessed one of the other workers take the order of an older woman at a table, as she thought it was waiter service. My food did take a little while, but it was clear that everything was carefully made from scratch.
Everything I ate was divine. The service was great. And although a bit pricy, it's reasonable for the area and the quality is there. Given the unique options they have, this place nicely compliments the other gourmet sausage places in town. I'll definitely be eating here whenever I'm in Cherry Creek and am hungry.
We tried Hawt Dog last night after purchasing a Groupon and we will definitely be back. They bake all of the toppings inside a homemade dough wrap which is very unique and delicious! I had the bison cheddar and it was perfectly hot and spicey. Delicious beers on tap. The grilled sweet potato wedges were delicious and a healthy option but I can't wait to go back and try out the homemade tots with blue cheese.
Review Source:Great spin on the hot dog. Â Reviewers, look at Hawt Dog for what it is not for what it is not. Â This is not a hot dog stand slinging dirty water dogs. Â This is a gourmet take on the mundane hot dog with well designed recipes that are each unique in caprtureing the flavor of the place they are inspired by. Â The New York mixes all the right flavors of a street dog into a flavorful delivery package of dough that is baked around the ingredients. It captures the combination of sauerkraut, onions and mustard surrounding an all beef hot dog perfectly reminding me of NYC. Â Then there is the Santa Fe which captures New Mexican favors perfectly with a buffalo sausage melded to a deeply flavored chile with hints of bean and cheddar. Â Do not go here looking for standard hot dog flavors. Â Definitely go for a more gourmet and unique flavor experience.
Review Source:I was taken here not to long ago and WOW!! This place is incredible! The best Hawt Dog I have ever had! They have an amazing variety, the staff is friendly, but the food is to die for. This is a short but sweet review because the food speaks for it's self. YOU MUST GO! The owner is awesome, the food rules!
Review Source:Let it be known they now offer BEER, some great IPA's.
I was in the Cherry Creek area looking for a hat to the Mad Hatter Elite event, which I found by the way. Â My friend really likes hot dogs and sausage and I finally remembered Hawt Dog while I was in the neighborhood and offered it up as a place to grab a bite, and she bit. Â (LOL)
The menu still says beer is pending but they just haven't updated their menu's quite yet. Â My friend and I both enjoyed a pale IPA on draft that was refreshing and a delightful accompaniment to the meal. Â I decided on having the Outer Banks Dog and my friend had the Breck, and we split an order of the Tots with Parmesan and truffle. Â My dog was tingle my lips spicy with bacon and Gorgonzola on top of a pork and beef polish sausage all wrapped in a fresh dough. Â Now you may think the dough would be heavy or thick, oh contrare, the dough was thin and baked not fried. Â The tots were served piping hot and definitely home made, not the frozen variety.
The atmosphere is open and friendly with a great variety of people watching available. Â One Hawt dog, one beer, and a half an order of tots = $15. Â That's pretty good for the Cherry Creek area. Â This is my find of place!
Keeps getting better!
First of all, it's hard to beat their foundation of artisan sausages paired with gourmet toppings... all of which are then wrapped in fresh dough and then baked in the oven. It makes the traditional hot dog look like prison food. Plus, they offer fancy tater tots, grilled sweet potato and delicious shakes. This was all available during my first few visits.
Next they got their liquor license, as promised, and now offer draft beer. How can you top that? Well, when I took my family the Hawt a couple weeks ago, I was surprised to see that they now have hamburgers on the menu. These are wrapped in fresh dough just like the sausages and man are they delicious.
The interior is very simple and comfortable, with what I believe is Ikea furniture.
All in all, an excellent place to get a meal. I'll be back many times to come!
This place is a winner! Â Why? Â Everything is made from scratch, and as a scratch cook myself that earns big points with me. Â We had very good service and I like the atmosphere.
I was with my folks and a friend of theirs.  Everyone likes spicy except my dad so we ordered his dinner with a different sausage that wouldn't kill his fragile taste buds.  We had the blue cheese tater tots, (OMG, yum!), sweet potato wedge, regular chips and jalapeño chips.  All were great. Â
My only complaint was that the bottom of my burger (it was totally enclosed) did have some grease in it. Â I don't think there's a way around this problem unless there was a hole in the bottom to let the grease out. Â It just means I can't eat there too often :)
I only wish I lived closer to it.
First time I visited they had to close early because of problems with the registers, second time I visited they were out of tater tots and sweet potato wedges (both times were in the early afternoon!). But the owner more than made up for it when he apologized and apologized and bought us a dog on the house.
I like the concept of hot dogs baked in the dough, just wish they would offer something on a less spicy level. The Brecks was a delicious dog. The Outerbanks, only if you like blue cheese. Home made chips are awesome and I adored the BLT salad! The spicy slaws accompanying every hot dog is pretty nice too.
3.5 stars! (Could be a little pricey if without coupons, but considering it's located in Cherry Creek...)
With all of the gourmet hot dog and burger places popping up all over Denver, I wasn't sure if I should get excited about this place. I went in with low expectation.
I left very impressed. Hawt Dog offers "pig in a blanket" type hot dogs and sausages with the ingredients cooked into the bun. I had the buffalo jalapeno cheddar brat with bacon, caramelized onions, and chipotle chili. It was great, as was my "tater tots" which were NOT what I was expecting - but WAY better, as I got the blue cheese and chives tater tots which are fried with the cheese and chives inside and come with a dipping sauce. Reasonable prices for an expensive neighborhood and the girl at the counter was friendly and helpful...and cute.
If you're in the Cherry Creek neighborhood, I'd definitely recommend giving this place a shot.
my son & I dropped in here for lunch after a long morning of walking the cherry creek arts fest 2012.
the restaurant was full but not crowded. the bathrooms were clean. it wasn't clear to me that you needed to order at the register before sitting down, so I got a little perturbed sitting there being ignored until the waitress told me that we needed to order at the register. maybe some signage would have been nice. or maybe I was just too tired from the arts fest to notice.
the menu is short but full of possibilities. my 10-year old son had a regular hot dog with chips. the hot dog is cooked inside sort of a pizza dough thing. he usually doesn't eat hot dog buns but he loved this dog wrap. the chips are homemade potato chips, but they were overcooked. I had a salad, which was very good, and the bleu cheese tater tots, which sound better than they were. of course you have to try them, because they're unique, but they didn't do it for me. I thought they were going to be more tangy-flavored.
(hawt, if you're reading this, try adding extra sharp cheddar to the bleu.)
we sat at the counter. I hate their counter chairs. I couldn't get out! my friend had the same problem! stools would be better.
I gave it a 4 because it's clean, simple, affordable, good food, real beer, and nice staff. it's a good place to bring both foodies and picky eaters.
nice bonus: it's on the corner with lots of windows, plus an outdoor counter.
I am a fan and I'll eat there again if I'm in that part of town at lunchtime.
Nice little hot dog joint. Â Service was very friendly. Â We went on a Friday night and it was dead. Â Ordered the Santa Fe and it was pretty good. Â I like the concept of the dough they bake on to the dog. Â Food was slightly hot when delivered this way. Â Had the tater tots also and they were pretty darn good. Â
The reason it only gets three stars is because its too expensive for it being hot dogs and the sides are separate from the dogs, which makes for a very pricey entree when you add drinks. Â When you look at the big picture, I'm afraid this place is so trendy and specialized that it doesn't have a broad enough appeal for everyone. Â Plus depending on when you go, you have to pay for street parking as well, its hard to keep up in Cherry Creek North as a lot of business come and go. Â On another note, the place gets smoky too from all the cooking. Â All in all, Hawt Dog looks cool, but I'm not sure it feels cool.
Phenomenal. I had the make you're own dog. The bratwurst was perfectly cooked, well spiced, and well balanced with the ingredients. Â I love how the meat and toppings are wrapped in the bun, it wasn't too bready and was hot throughout. Service was stellar and the beer was great too. What a wonderful Saturday afternoon!
Review Source:After reading so many rave reviews, I was excited to try The Hawt Dog & Sausage Eatery. Unfortunately while it was edible and the staff was friendly, the meal just didn't deliver so three stars it is.
I ordered the Sonoma which is a chicken apple sausage, tomatoes, basil and burrata cheese wrapped up in the signature pocket. For the side I ordered the Maytag Blue Cheese Tawts. The Sonoma was relatively bland, as were the tawts. I think I may have had one chunk of blue cheese in the entire order of tawts.
While I wasn't that impressed with my first experience at The Hawt, I really think the concept is clever and I'd be willing to give them one more try and order something different.
After a long day of biking & frolicking we were famished! Came here because I was all hard up for a wiener.
Service was all well and good but the dawgs just didn't really deliver, I got the buffalo option and it was pretty bland, even covered with chili & cheese! The bee-eff got a different one & wasn't impressed either.
Wouldn't go out of my way to return but I might if I was in the hood....& also waiting til they get booze. Sweet, sweet booze.
I was chatting with Tiffany "Not the CM" N about her review of The Hawt Dog & Sausage Eatery and it reminded me that I had a Living Social deal here. I'd planned on going to yoga after work last night and realized I was absolutely starving! I wasn't going to be able to wait until after yoga to eat, so I stopped here instead of finding my zen. Parking was easy and the place was a bit dead. However, it was a Monday evening and the weather had previously been nice and warm and it had just turned chilly. Not many people were out in Cherry Creek North anywhere.
I perused the menu and made my choice for the Sonoma. As I tried to determine what to order for the vegetarian boyfriend, the owner suggested the Tofurkey Dog (which is the only option); however, he suggested caramelized onions, sauerkraut and a spicy mustard, which was a perfect choice for the man. I decided to eat there, because I was *that* hungry and had an order of tater tots with truffle oil. I'm sure you've seen the other reviews that mention the dogs are served not with a bun, but are baked with a dough that is wrapped around the dog like a pocket, which is genius to me. The tater tots were hand-formed and utterly amazing. Light and fluffy and served with a horseradish ranch. I'm not a huge fan of horseradish, but the sauce was done just right.
The owner also let me know that everything is made fresh there and the sausages are from Continental, just up the road. He asked me what my favorite restaurant was (Deluxe) and also mentioned some other restaurants that he liked, which I thought was pretty neat.
They should be getting there liquor license soon. He also mentioned that they will be rolling out a new menu in the next week or so, that will include hamburgers? Could be interesting.
The boyfriend can be a harsh critic and he enjoyed his hawt dog as well and loved the sea salt with balsamic vinegar (reduction) chips. He went crazy for them, which was perfect and he liked the coleslaw that came with it. I'm not a coleslaw fan, so I didn't go crazy for it, but I typically don't like any coleslaw, so there you have it, but it was alright, not mayonnaise-y.
Those house made chips and tater tots are ridiculously good. I'll definitely be back!
Mouthgasm seekers---seek no more! This place will satisy!
I've passed by this time a few times while in Cherry Creek North and when I saw Living Social offering a deal for it, I thought no better opportunity to try it out. I stopped by during lunch and was surprised to see it absolutely empty. From reading the reviews and the location they occupy, I thought it would be way more packed than it was. Oh well, that just means quicker service for me! How it works is you order at the cashier then they bring you out the food. There's even a clear view of the cooks for all you germaphobes out there!
I was conflicted about the menu options because everything looked amazing, especially on an empty stomach. They have 10 hot dogs on the menu and each had their own flavor and flare to each one. Now the question was, which kind did I want: something traditional like a Chicago dog or something new to me? I guess I was feeling nostalgic towards North Carolina since I went with the Outer Banks hot dog--Pork and beef smoked Polish sausage, applewood bacon, gorgonzola cheese, sweet and hawt slaw with hot sauce.
instead of a bun, it was wrapped in a pizza crust like a calzone, I was in seventh heaven. Plus not only was the hot dog huge but there were two links thanks to it having both pork and beef links. To say I felt naughty eating that would be an understatement.
I got an order of tater tots along with the dog. When the cashier asked me if I wanted them with truffle oil or with bleu cheese, I was at a loss. Could I possibly have both? Oh yes. Now the smell of truffle oil is one of my favorite smells out there so I was anxiously awaiting for them to come out. Soon enough they came out, fresh and hot and reminded me of a hush puppie more so than a tater tot. The bleu cheese dressing had a kick of horseradish so that was a surprise most welcoming by my taste buds.
From 0 to mouth-gasm in four minutes.
Check this place out!!
Considering all the comment about the limited space, I thought I would be better off trying this new joint on a weekday. So, I picked Thursday eve as the big day. The location is definitely a prime one surrounded by several bars and pizza joints. Although when we went there, the place was deserted. There were only two tables occupied including us.
So, we, a party of two decided to try the Sonoma and the Santa Fe. We also ordered the sweet potato wedge and a side salad. I was most curious about the special dough they bake to "pocket" the sausage and all the toppings...well in their case, they would be "fillings"!
Although the place was very empty, we didn't get the prompt service we expected in a hot dog joint! We waited for about 25-30 minutes before our food arrived. Everything looked very contemporary and delicious. But the suspense of it all was that I could not put anything in perspective of a hot dog joint. I guess thats why it is a "Hawt" dog joint!
The so called hot dog was basically a hot pocket stuffed with the sausages and all the toppings that's supposed to go on top of it, hence I use the term "fillings". I also observed that the toppings settled to the bottom and I did'nt get to taste them until about 2/3 of the way down the "pocket". The flavors were great but deceptive if you go in there with the mindset of eating a "hot dog".
And the potato wedges were not your typical wedges. They were gigantic! A fork and knife is in order to consume such enormous portion of wedge, two of them in a serving to be precise. But I must say, the yogurt lime dip that came with it was heavenly. Very crisp and refreshing.
The salad was very ordinary and not much to write about really....
I walked out of there satisfied with the bill, the taste, the ambiance and the service. But I was still left with the craving of a hot dog!
The Denver restaurant scene is becoming a giant sausage party. Â However, I think that is a good thing because one can never put too much tube meat in their mouth. Â The latest addition to the tube meat market is the Hawt Dog and Sausage Eatery, a modern wiener peddler oddly squeezed into Cherry Creek North. Â
They have great dogs, but let me start with their "tawts" first. Â When I saw that the special of the day was a bacon gorgonzola tawt, I was expecting a batch of ora ida freezer tater tots smeared with melted gorgonzola, with bacon crumbles sprinkled on top. Â What I got was a freshly made ball that resembled a potato croquette that came stuffed with savory potatoes, cheese, and bacon. Â I now know what it is like to bite into awesomeness. Â Seriously...it was crispy, then soft, salty and savory, and completely oozing with gorgonzola. Â It was a Christmas miracle in January! Â I must note that I had their regular truffle "tawts", which weren't as incredible. Â But I am of the opinion that truffle oil and other truffle flavorings have been abused by restaurants for a while, overpowering every flavor that the truffles come in contact with. Â
On to the dogs. Â De. Â Lish. Â Us. Â It is to be expected when you're sourcing your sausages from Continental, but they really bring a lot to the table at this restaurant. Â Their main twist is to wrap the dogs with all their fixings in a freshly made dough wrapper. Â They are like those bagel dogs they used to have every month for school lunch, but so much better. Â During our first trip, I went with a Santa Fe, a jalapeno cheddar brat, stuffed with more jalapenos, chili, and pepper jack cheese sauce. Â It is really a brilliantly savory/spicy combination that should not be eaten in the presence of women and small children --- trust me on this one. Â The next visit I ate a French Q, which was good, but I was disappointed that the onions were not properly caramelized. Â I also sampled my wife's Outer Banks, which I wish I would have ordered instead. Â More gorgonzola and bacon on a polish sausage --- it is a fat man's dream. Â
Does anyone read this far down into a review? Â If so, why? Â You should be stuffing your face with sausage right now. Â Go on! Â Go!
This place is a killer spot in Cherry Creek with an original take on how to prepare hot dogs, brats, sausage, etc. Â My daughter and I went there today and I had the Outer Banks Hawt which was amazing and my daughter had the Mini Hawt Dogs. Â Also, we had some sides of sea salt and spiked balsamic vinegar chips, blue cheese tater tawts and then washed them down with a toasted s'more shake. Â
Another great reason to come here aside from the great food is knowing that you are also supporting other local businesses as they get their bread and meat from other vendors based in Denver. Â Everything is cooked and prepared there on the spot and you have to love the originality behind their food. Â The service is excellent as well and they certainly make you feel welcomed. Â Jeremy (Managing Partner/Owner) has knocked out a winner in the Cherry Creek community!
