Our first time was met with an energetic staff and great menu recommendations. The food was awesome and the portions were ample.  The desserts completed a fun night out.  We will definitely return for more menu selections

I absolutely love this place.  I adore Creole and Cajun food and this place delivers big time.  It's easily the best of this genre I've had outside of NOLA.

First off, the Gumbo is easily the best I've ever had outside of New Orleans and probably the second best I've ever had.  Spectacular stuff.

The appetizers are all good (some are a bit pricey for the size) but the quality can't be argued.

If you like spicy, the Hot as a Mutha Pasta is incredible.  Carmelized shallots and a huge pile of habaneros.

The chicken voodoo rigatoni is one of my 5 favorite restaurant dishes.  Perfectly spiced, without going over board (but it will make you sweat for sure).  Perfect mix of spicy and sweet.

The etouffee of the day is also always a winner.

i have yet to have had a bad dish there.

My only complaint is that it is very loud, and can be hard to hear.  The tables are very crowded and the  alcohol can get a bit pricey for the quantity and the menu doesn't have a lot of rotation.  Since we go once a month or so, you can go through the menu after awhile.  That being said, the food is absolutely great and I will continue to be a regular there.  Great place.

I love this place. The gumbo is awesome, the chicken voodoo enchiladas are amazing. Spicy everything (OK maybe not everything) but its a great place for some good Cajun food. Not the best place for little kids, unless they like spicy. The whole entire wall is racked with different hot sauces which is really cool. Get out and try this place. You won't regret it.

This might be my favorite drunch spot of all the places I have spent considerable amounts of time in which include NYC, SF, Chicago, and LA. For you who aren't familiar with the timeless and exquisite nature of drunch, let me explain. Drunch is similar to brunch only you aren't bound by the traditional brunch style menu (eggs, crepes, french toast) and it includes at least two cocktails or craft beers.

Heaven on Seven executes perfectly on both the food and drinks that combine to form the supernatural power that is known as drunch. My personal favorites are the cajun sausage (boudin?) and sweet potato polenta, the jalapeno corn appetizer, and the no-carb jambalaya. The no carb jambalaya might be my favorite dish of all time but honestly, who can confidently identify their favorite dish of all time?

There is a location downtown as well which I am sure is even trendier but this place is quality. And classy. In a weird, eclectic sort of way.

For brunch, Heaven on Seven was a bit disappointing and overpriced but I would be willing to return to try the dinner menu.

My husband and I shared two entrees - the Poached Eggs on Crab cakes with Creole Sauce and the Beef Tenderloin and Eggs. In addition, we used the Yelp Check-In offer for a free dessert with entree to get the Mississippi Mud Pie

    Highlights during our experience:
*The big, open dining room with Southern influences throughout from the multiple shelves of hot sauce to the bright paintings created a fun atmosphere.
*Complimentary warm corn/blueberry bread as soon as we sat.
*The beef came out as ordered - medium rare.
*The pie was decadently packed with a variety of textures of chocolate - crushed cookie crust, thick ganache, light mousse, sticky syrup. I'm not a dessert fan but couldn't help but enjoy this one for how rich it was. (I just wished there was a little less powdered sugar sprinkled on top)
*Attentive service with helpful suggestions, however ...

    Lowlights during our experience:
*There seemed to be miscommunication between staff. My husband and I would get something (drinks, food, silverware, etc.) from one person but then another server would come over and ask if we needed what we just got. Basically, at every stage in the meal, we would get two of the same question. By the fourth or fifth time this happened when we were ordering dessert, the second server said he would stop coming back and apologized.
*The poached eggs were overdone - more like soft-boiled and not as yolky as I expected. The creole sauce had very little kick and was a bit watery. And the crab cakes had more breading than flaky crab meat.
*The breakfast potatoes needed more crisp on the outside and lacked seasoning/flavor.
*The wheat toast looked like it came from a pre-sliced grocery bag instead of baked fresh.

Ultimately, it would be interesting to compare this meal to their more well-known dinner dishes like gumbo, and it would be worth it to see if there is a difference between the suburban location and the city ones. Just keep in mind there is no OpenTable feature for this restaurant so call if wanting to make a reservation.

    Overall: 3
    Service: 4
    Food: 2

I've visited to New Orleans three times on business and think they're food is amazing unfortunately at least for the brunch, Heaven on Seven was a poor reproduction.

I went here for brunch with my wife on a Sunday morning. It felt friendly from the start, with a warm mardi gras style decoration and attentive service. We were asked every two minutes if we needed water or how we liked our food. The only downside to this is we were a bit misleading when we reaplied that we liked the food.

I got the poached eggs on crabcakes and creole sauce. The creole sauce was tasted like a Kroger salsa and crabcakes did not taste much like crab perhaps because they were overfried or just really had little crab. I'm a bit of a crabcake snob and frying automatically lower my impression. My wife got a sirloin steak with eggs and potatoes. Although the steak was well cooked we saw nothing special. Prices are definitely high for what you get.

Would I give it another try? Yes.
I have heard good things about this place and their dinner menu sounded very delicious. The immense beer selection including NOLA favorite Abita is right up my alley. I may just have had an uncommon experience.

My god am I a fan of Heaven on Seven.  As a spicy food junkie this place very well could of been built specifically with me in mind.  No one else, just me.  You'll find yourself staring at the wall of hot sauce.  Every time I see that wall it's like looking at Mount St. Helen and thinking to myself "I want to climb that mountain."  You know very well you cannot climb the hot sauce mountain but one can dream.

The jalapeño corn blasters are my favorite appetizer.  I must warn you that they are a very heavy appetizer and your portions will be generous.  The corn blasters come with a jalapeño house dressing that can't be described with out my mouth wanting to party.  I  am not even sure if their soups are good because the gumbo is where it's at.  It's packed with so much flavor and just the perfect amount of spice.  I always tend to lean towards the classic Jambalaya when I'm there.  Their andouille sausage is incredible so I always try to make sure whatever I'm ordering has the sausage.

And of course, the little extras that you get will leave a very pleasant early impression.  Before you even get your massive amounts of food, you'll be greeted by their fresh pickles and bread.  Here's a little tip, take the bread, spread the bean spread on it, put a little pickle on it, fold the bread in half like a taco and bite.  You'll thank me later.

This place is a good option for an affordable, relaxed dinner in downtown Naperville.  The portions are huge and the menu has many choices.  I give them props for having excellent beers on tap and in bottles, but it's annoying that the beer list is not on any menu.  The menu has a lot of options but some of the dishes could use some description as the names don't give away what they are exactly.  It's also the kind of place where it's hard to find healthy options.  The portions are huge though and the prices are very affordable for the downtown area.  Service is good, and it definitely has a great kitschy vibe going on.  My husband and I have traveled to New Orleans often, and the food here just doesn't quite stand up to what we are used to eating down there.  We used to eat at Dixie Kitchen in Evanston, which I think did a better job with the N'Awlins style food.  Regardless, I would recommend it for a casual dinner out with friends.

I frequent New Orleans once every few years and if I want a taste of it, I can get it right here in Chicago, or...the burbs.

I visited this location once before for breakfast a few years back.  It was good but now I wanted to try dinner.  I also visit the location on Wabash in the city but that's usually for a cup of gumbo and cornbread for lunch.  The lunch menu at that location is on the small side as well.

Come here for dinner and you cannot decide what on earth to have, but after much thought and a break in conversation last night we split the fried green tomatoes for an appetizer, we all ordered po boys for dinner which comes with soup, salad, or gumbo so for all three of us...gumbo.  I must say their gumbo is excellent, especially if you're comparing it to the gumbo you can find down in NOLA.  Yum-o!!!!  I need to get back here more often as there are many other things I'd like to try on the menu!

This place is one of my very favorites!

My favorite entree there is the Blackened Catfish! I get it just about every time I go. I recently tried their BBQ Beef Brisket Po'Boy and it was smoked like no other! Their sweet potato polenta is the bomb!

2 things I urge you to try: Gumbo and sweet potato polenta

On a side note the "Hot as a Mutha" appetizer is soo good, being a devilishly hot habenero!

I could go on and on about this place... It's awesome! Nice location too.

I love Heaven on Seven! It is on our list of must-visit places when we visit family and friends in Chicagoland.

I don't think you can go wrong with much on the menu but I always stick to one thing that I cannot stray from: the shrimp and Parmigiano-Reggiano grits. IT IS THE BEST. The shrimp are small and lightly battered and the grits are sooo creamy and cheesy, with chunks of salty tasso ham and green onions. i love this dish!

The gumbo is also awesome. I am by no means an expert but I HAVE been to New Orleans (twice!) and eaten a LOT of gumbo and the gumbo here is among the tastiest I have enjoyed. It is dark, rich and sooooo flavorful and the cup that comes with my meal is never quite enough!

They also have an andouille sausage and sweet potato polenta appetizer that is an amazing array of flavors and blows my taste buds away every time I try it with the spicy sausage, sweet potato, caramelized onions and mustard... YUM.

They do special tasting menus once in a while that I would really like to try some time. They also have a nice beer selection and a ton of tasty cocktails, including the requisite hurricanes and Sazerac and a bunch of absinthe.

Basically, this is probably the best spot to eat in downtown Naperville!

We moved to Chicago in August of this year, and I have already been to eat at Heaven on Seven at least 4 times.  In addition, I've eaten here twice before we moved.  My husband discovered this gem of a restaurant two years ago on a trip downtown and was HOOKED.  He loves gumbo and swears by their version.  Although I enjoy gumbo, I love other options on their menu even more.  Every time we decide to dine out in Naperville and can't pick where to eat, Heaven on Seven is our go-to option.

To date, I tried: fried oyster salad, shrimp po-boy, turtle soup, seafood corn chowder, hoppin-john, red beans and rice, collared greens, and pecan pie.  I loved every single one and have no complaints at all.  I could eat their collared greens for every meal.  I've been bummed they haven't had the seafood chowder for a while.

I love their pickles that come with the bread (might have to do with pregnancy) and always ask for extra.

Space is small in the Naperville location, so it can be noisy.  I wouldn't take my husband's 80 year old grandparents here for that reason; they probably wouldn't enjoy it.

TIP: ignore negative reviews from people who try non-cajun items.  Their complaints do not hold weight, since WHO GOES TO A CAJUN RESTAURANT TO EAT PLAIN GRILLED CHICKEN?!?!?

Holy gumbo, I love this place! Whenever my husband and I have guests in town, this is where we take them!

I love love love their gumbo. Seriously. I am so sick of crap gumbo in this world, but this place has it right. Gumbo is supposed to be a dark chocolatey brown, not spicy red! But man oh man, this place writes the book on gumbo. Did I mention I love the gumbo? You get salad or gumbo with every meal, so everyone has the opportunity to try it AND a different entree!

The etouffee never fails me. Whether you get the "of the day" or what is on the menu, it is hearty and packed with flavor. You can also expect to take some home, because the portion they give you barely fits on the plate! The catfish is good too. The jambalaya was a bit dry but still flavorful. I would not recommend the shrimp platter, because it tastes like ordinary fried shrimp, in my opinion. You can get the same thing at Long John Silver's.

Also, this place is the BOMB for brunch. They always have a live acoustic set, which I adore. If you love parmesan and grits, get the parmesan grits. They are a bit too cheesy for my taste, but most of my friends think its the bees knees. The bloody mary's are good too, but I looooove the Goose Island beermosa they were serving up last time!

The freaking wall is made of hot sauces. I mean c'mon, that rules! They have a wide variety sitting on the table, which sometimes gets in the way (one time we counted 17 bottles on our table!), but it's all part of the ambiance I guess.

The only thing that stinks is how close all the tables are together. Couple that with not being able to fit the huge plates on your table (because you have 17 bottles of hot sauce to battle with) and whatever drinks you may have, and sometimes it can all feel a bit cramped. But when you bite into that glorious food, it'll all be worth it!

If you are freaked out by the idea of spreading beans and butter onto a slice of bread...don't be. It's a wonderful combination.

AHHHH..... I THOUGHT I REVIEWED YOU!!!

Maybe I skipped your review because I temporarily died and went to HEAVEN after trying your gumbo!!!  BAM.  Word Play.

With your cornbread, spread, gumbo, an humungo entree, I couldn't finish.... but really wanted to!  Along with your fab food, I really enjoyed the fun hot sauces on display, the cluttered yet alluring decor, and friendly waitstaff!

Keep on keeping on Heaven on Seven!

Delicious. I've yet to order something that wasn't fantastic.
    You have to try:
The "Hot as a Mother" pasta; accurately named. Habaneros galore.
    Gumbo
    Turtle soup

They have a great draft beer selection with rotating local craft beers, beer specials during the week. The servers are knowledgeable and friendly.
Busy but very cozy atmosphere, shelves lined with 100s of bottles of hot sauce, some cool art on the walls. Great little dining spot in downtown Naperville. Will always stop in for lunch when I'm in town.

    Unique, friendly, delicious.

I've eaten 3 times here, and never had a disappointing experience.  The food has a unique Cajun distinction, and has the decor to match.  The service has been good for the most part, I would definitely dine here again.

I will preface this by saying I've never had real southern food, so when I say that the gumbo was absolutely delicious it means it was absolutely delicious for a girl who's never been to the south.

I ordered the chopped chicken salad which was great, albeit I probably could have ordered something a bit more southern tasting however I was in the mood for something light. My girlfriend ordered the cajun caesar and she liked her salad as well.

The peanut butter chocolate pie was on special so we got a slice for $2, you can't beat that! It was also pretty good, but heavy.

Good service, good food, definitely want to come back and try their jerk chicken and bbq ribs.

Heaven on Seven is by far one of my favorite restaurants.  The gumbo is the most delicous item on the menu along with their corn muffins.  I love the pickles they give with the bread when you sit down and the service is always great.  I also like that all of the servers are required to taste everything on the menu before they start so they are very knowledgeable about the menu items.  We also love spicy food and mostly everything on the menu is spicy, so I wouldn't go here unless you like at least a little kick to your food.

Even though this is one of my favorite restaurants I only gave it four stars because their menu is huge.  I have found that there are a handful of items on the menu that are amazing and everything else is just so-so.  I think when you try to do too many things, not one thing stands out.  For example, I got the shrimp and fried green tomato salad that last time I went.  The salad came with 4 pieces of shrimp and 2 fried green tomatoes.  The rest of the salad was all lettuce.  If I wanted to pay for a salad that was only greens I could make one at home and not pay as much.  So even though some of the items on the menu are dissapointing, if you want some great gumbo and great service I definitely recommend eating here.

Very cheap ingredients: tiny and few shrimps and precooked rice in jambalaya, cheap bread in sandwich. Mediocre food, too expensive. The interior decor is nice, but the food is mediocre at best.

...I probably should've ordered something Cajun/Creole, but instead I ordered BBQ.  I really wanted to like this place but their side dishes (grits and tater tots) were way better than the rest of my meal which was ridiculously dry...enough said about this place.

Came here with friends based on the reviews from yelp. They got the barbecue sampler and jerk wings and I got the shrimp, with grits and tater tots as sides.

The jerk chicken wings were dry, very dry. One bite of a wing and we were done with it. The BBQ brisket , the BBQ pulled chicken and BBQ ribs were ok.  My shrimp which alot of people raved about here was meh. The shrimp coating could have been crispier, the coating had a nice flavor. But the shrimp was dry and stringy and missing the pop when you bite into a fresh shrimp. The shrimp was obviously overcooked and just not fresh.

On the other hand the grits were good and the gumbo and cajun tater tots were ok as well.

Overall, try it but dont be expecting anything good and you'll be ok.

100th Yelp Review- woot woot! ;) I couldn't be more pleased that my hundredth review is that of a super fun night with some of my best girlfriends. Though this place was kind of cozy and a tight fit maneuvering through, and a little too loud for good convo, we had a great time, the food was delicious and our server was very accommodating.

We started with a 630 reservation but due to how busy it was (Tim Gunn was in town) parking was even more chaotic than usual and the majority of our group arrived after 7. We were worried we would not be able to get a table but my friend (who was early) was told it should not be a problem, and in fact they seated us with only 3 out of 4 in our party shortly after 7. We ordered promptly and our apps started arriving within 10 minutes, entrées within 20. We asked for the check and boxes as they brought us our entrées because we're trying to make the ghost tour. Yup, we commune with the dead. ;) They were very accommodating in trying to get us to our next stop on time, even though they themselves were quite busy. It was very much appreciated!

I ordered the half order of Jambalaya which was delicious, just a smidge of heat, though I can handle lots, and was an appropriate helping for those watching their waistlines (or trying to find one, in my case) with leftovers to boot. I tasted the Voo Doo chicken enchiladas, and that packed a punch and was awesome! It's a huge portion but that may be my next meal there. Another friend raved over her coconut shrimp, so my fellow Yelpers definitely got those right! Oh, and definitely try the fried green tomatoes app; quite yummy!

I couldn't  have been more pleased. I'll definitely be back, perhaps for lunch instead. But on a busy Friday night in downtown Naperville, we were in and out of there in less than an hour with happy bellies ready to walk two blocks over for some ghostbusting. Cuz busting' makes me feel good.

I really enjoy the Heaven on Seven that is off Michigan Ave., so when I saw this one in Naperville, we decided to stop in. We didn't have a lot of time to eat, so we opted to eat at the bar. The bartender was very attentive even though the place was slammed and was getting busier by the minute.

I ordered the Voodoo Chicken Rigatoni and my bf got the pulled pork platter. Both came with either soup or salad. I opted for the salad with the house dressing which was just as good as I had remembered. If you want a flaming hot, mouth-on-fire dish, then get the Voodoo Chicken Rigatoni. This dish was so hot my nose was running like crazy. The menu doesn't list any ingredients but it appeared to have diced jalapeños, yellow pepper, chicken and pasta in a sauce which seemed to have a hint of cinnamon.

When I checked in on yelp, there was a free dessert offer. We mentioned this to our server and she suggested we get the mud pie. We were pretty pressed for time so we opted to get the dessert to go. I wish our server would have mentioned that we would need to eat the dessert fairly quickly because it doesn't store well. It was pretty cool out and the dessert was in the car for about 1.5 hours. By the time we got to eat it, it was a melted mess. Oh well, at least it was free.

We did have a billing snafu where we were charged for 2 desserts (when we only asked for 1). We noticed this after the card was charged. Our server rectified the problem by refunding the card.

Overall, decent food that comes with a high price tag. 2 entrees+1 drink special ($6)+one free dessert = $60-ish.

Not gonna lie, Melanie R. and I were kinda hesitant to choose Heaven on Seven for our lunching extravaganza. But it was hella hot outside, so we ended up ducking in.

We were so glad that we did! I went with the special which was the Voodoo Chicken Enchiladas. I love enchiladas so it seemed like a perfect choice for me. Plus the special came with  gumbo or a salad and a dessert! Can't beat that deal.

I don't think I've ever had gumbo before and I really didn't know what to expect, I'm not sure if theirs is "typical" but it was really freaking good! So glad I opted to try it. I would order it again for sure if I went back. The Voodoo Chicken Enchiladas, I'm not so sure if I would order again. They were very cheesy and they also had a creamy sauce, so for me it was kind of overkill.

I wouldn't mind trying something else for an entree though. I did order a jalapeno corn muffin....which was pretty darn good if I do say so myself. It had just the right amount of heat and sweet at the same time.

Their dessert portions are HUGE! I got the Mississippi Mud Pie, which was good....not great, but still huge. I would probably try another dessert next time.

All in all great value, and I enjoyed myself even though it wasn't the very best food ever I do think I would find things that I loved here. Plus, they had pretty good looking drink menu that I wouldn't mind trying out!

Really torn between one and two stars on this place. It's one of the only restaurants I know of in the Naperville area that offers up cajun food, but the prices, portions, and overall quality are just all over the place. It seems like if you order one of their specials that day, they're almost always good, but you're going to pay for it. Last time I was there I had a phenomenal salmon dish, but it was upwards of $20, which felt really overpriced for such a measly peace of fish sitting on top of a massive pile of mashed potatoes. Ordering off the menu is often underwhelming, and just as expensive, if not more so, if you get involved with sides and appetizers.

The drinks I've had here are almost universally bad and expensive as well. On my last visit, I dared to try one of their bloody marys which not only was almost undrinkably spicy, but seemed to have no alcohol in it- A veritable crime for the near $10 price tag.

I'd say Heaven on Seven is worth a try if you're in the area and have a creole craving, just don't expect to have it knock your socks off- And be prepared to pay for it.

Every time I come to Heaven on Seven I order the shrimp and a long island iced tea and my night is set!

I went here last night and once again I was not disappointed. The long island was perfectly strong and the shrimp po'boy sandwich ($13.95), although impossible to eat like a regular sandwich, was so good. I recommend the Jalapeño Cheddar Corn Muffin ($2.50) and the gumbo ($4.50) for appetizers, but they are spicy!

FYI- There is a check-in offer for a free dessert going on right now!!!

Good food and fun atmosphere. Good opportunity to have some food that is not very common in the Chicago area. Careful with the spice though.  I like spicy food and didn't even order the hottest level and I was impressed...

Prices could be a little better. I was also disappointed that they were advertising a crawfish special on the table that they didn't have.

I wanted to love this place after visiting in the past and tasting their intoxicatingly good (figuratively and literally) Voodoo Juice, but on this visit (6/18) there was nothing Voodoo about this juice. After one whole (16? or 22? oz) glass, I didn't feel affected in the least (and no my tolerance is not increasing!). So, I asked the waitress if the woman bar-tending forgot to add the alcohol. I said I'd try another as long as she made it a bit stronger (a request I rarely make!). So, she comes back with another....punch. Yet the bill shows an extra $1 has been added to my nearly $10 drink; and bear in mind this is not NYC or LA, it's Naperville during happy hour in an almost empty bar. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't trying to get tipsy and I would have been happy with one normal drink, but two weak glasses of punch for $21? Lame.

My parents had to ask for their Margaritas straight up because the first ones had too much ice and quickly turned watery. Neither the waitress (more understandable) nor the bartender knew what straight up meant, which made me wonder if this woman was filing in for the real bartender.

Now, for the reason for the three stars (because my drinks wouldn't have got them past two):

The Catfish Mini Po Boys were delicious! The Beef and Pork PBs were also really tasty. The Shrimp Mini Po Boy which I was looking forward to was a tad dry, like they forgot a dollop of sauce or cooked the shrimp a moment too long. All in all, the Mini PBs were scrumptious! We ordered two plates and I'd definitely get them again.

The breading on the Fried Green Tomatoes was too dense and heavy for our liking. I'd send them back to the drawing board on that one.

So, H on S is a solid A-OK, but I think they have some kinks to work out before I can enter a state of fandom.

Very good food. The fried green tomatoes appetizer was really good, and I'm not a tomato fan.

Nice little spot in great downtown Naperville.

The Cuban po boy was good, but I've had better Cuban food in the city( which is understandable).

    Would recommend.

If you need the heat and crave the spice this is the place to go. I was prepared for the worst and I got it with the Hot as a Mother Chicken and Pasta. Minus the heat this dish was flavorful and delicious. I didn't mess with the bottles of hot sauces on the table, they are strictly a gimmick.
The drinks are great to, my vote is for the New Orleans tradition, no not the hurricane, it's the Pimm's cup.
    This place is solid!!!

I have been here about 20 times, and I got stuck on the Voodoo chicken enchiladas for a while. To me, it is the perfect dish. Of course, I get some gumbo to start things off.  When I look at straying away from my all time favorite, everything on the menu looks sooo good that I cannot make up my mind!

A couple of times, recently, we have gone in for the family style all-u-can-eat brunch which is phenomenal.   I have also gotten into the Jimmy Feed Me jr.  for dinner, which is a chef's choice 4 course dinner (they also have a 7).  I was blown away both times! Last night was Jerk wings for an appetizer (mango pepper sauce makes this dish), Gumbo and turtle soup plate accompanied by a jalapeno cornbread muffin (yum) came next, followed by BBQ salmon atop an andouille sausage and potato hash ...then to my pleasant surprise, a voodoo chicken enchilada finished it off!   I could not fit another bite, so I got the included dessert to go (bread pudding that I will have for lunch!)

I have come to expect great service, excellent food and reasonable prices, and I do not see them ever letting me down!

I love Cajun food and while Heaven on Seven is not the best I've ever had, it is pretty darn good!  I've tried a mix of things from their menu and have not been disappointed.  Each time we've been here the portions have been sizable as well.  I could make a meal out of just their awesome cornbread!

I love the fun decor - one wall is covered in, what else? Bottles of all kinds of crazy hot sauces.  The other wall has some eclectic artwork to enjoy.  The staff has always been friendly, even when the place is hopping.

I highly recommend making reservations unless you are coming at an off-peak time.  The restaurant is small and fills up very quickly.  If you fail to make reservations there are plenty of other shops in downtown Naperville to peruse while your appetite builds.  Plus if you check in here on your Yelp app you might get a nice surprise like a free dessert!

I get it.  Hot food is played off here as being cute. As in,  "Ohh let's put da hottest spices and seeznin's in dat dere gumbo and watch his ass burn from here to Rue de Bourdon HEE HEE!!"

To be fair, when you order a dish that's "Angry," it's gonna be a little more than ticked off.  Think, "all of the crushed red pepper and scallions you can spare tossed with a little habanero vinaigrette" angry, and that's what you get.  But surprisingly, it's not overkill.

The place was decorated very festively for Mardi Gras, and since I missed out on celebrating any kind of Fat Tuesday thanks to work, Melissa H. and I decided to come here and start a new tradition of Fat Wednesday instead.  Indulgence knows no daily bounds.

Like the non-practicing Catholics, I opted to go meatless on Ash Wednesday, so I  played it safe and decided not to try the gumbo.  The Creole Caesar salad was an adequate reserve choice, but not as awesome as Melissa said the gumbo was.

For dinner, I went with the angry Shrimp Linguine.  It had no problem telling me who was the boss that night.  Melissa opted for the Pot Roast, generously covered in gravy and served with some great looking mashed potatoes.  It looked and smelled so good, my eyes were drooling.  Or maybe those were tears being shed at opting to go red/white meatless at a place like Heaven.

Toss in a free dessert for checking in  on Yelp (chocolate cake = win) and a half-price bottle of Malbec, and you have a little tipsy and silly to go with your Fat Wednesday...or Thursday, or Monday....
