I was looking for an alternative to Pizanos and Lou Malnati's, so I thought I'd give Homemade Pizza a try. Â You can order ahead of time online and custom make your pizza. Â I had indicated that I was going to pick up my pie at 2 pm and when I got there right at 2, a sign on the door said that they had to step out and would be back at 2:30 pm. Â I was frustrated and hungry. Â Eventually, the employee came back from wherever he was and I got my pizza and headed home to start the cooking process. Â The pie was flavorful, but I still had a bad taste in my mouth from the inadequate customer service.
Review Source:I didn't get this place. Â Why would I want to buy a pizza I have to cook myself? Â But everyone said it was good, fresh ingredients, etc., so I decided to try it. Â And I agree, it's pretty good!
I was having a group over, and wanted to provide a meal, so this was better than cooking up a frozen pizza, but I didn't have to worry about timing out delivery or picking something up and having it be cold. Â It's less than the price of having a Chicago-caliber pizza delivered, but it's pricier than say, Domino's or Papa John's. Â It's also better and fresher, plus they have some unique combinations of ingredients. Â
I got a classic cheese, cheese/pepperoni, and veggie and all were very good. Â I also got breadsticks, which were great too. Â The other cool thing is that you can choose whole grain or white crust, so you almost feel healthy with the veggie pizza! Â I'd definitely go here again, but it probably won't be my regular pizza place.
Our first experience with Homemade Pizza Co was a bit disappointing. The second time was much better. In fact, we might order again in the near future! I guess I should give second chances to more places that I first declare duds!
First time around we got the Georgia, a Cesar Salad, and a cookie. It was just too expensive for what we got. For the price, it would have been nice if the pizza and the cookie were already cooked. Mostly, we simply were not impressed by the Georgia.
The second time we got the Spinach Pie and a Cabo Salad. Both were much better options for us! We thought that the ingredients in both the pizza and the salad were high quality. In fact, by the end we were thinking that we might try the cookie again.
Both times we ordered from Homemade Pizza Co the customer service was nice. The people who took our orders were calm and friendly. The interior of the store was clean and classy. There is no place to sit - pick up and delivery only.
I don't think that Homemade Pizza Co provides the best pizza in Chicagoland, but it's certainly better than most delivery in the Gold Coast area.
The people that work here are nice enough, but they skimp on the toppings and all ingredients. Â I have ordered here several times and every time I do, I am amazed by the little amount of toppings they put on top. Â They put enough cheese, but everything else, the sauce, the veggies, the chicken, etc are almost non-existent. Â Honestly, you're better off buying frozen pizza since you need to cook this yourself. Â Bad value for the money and I rarely complain about stuff like this, so I'd recommend going somewhere else until they give customers more topping or lower the price of the pizza.
Review Source:$28 for a medium pizza and a small salad?
As soon as I walked out I regretted not going to Lou Malnati's across the street. Â But, after much consideration, I Â realized that I was paying for fresh, delicious ingredients not available at other pizza chains. Â So....maybe it is worth it? Â
I got a medium pizza on whole wheat crust with fontinella, parmesan, spinach, prosciutto, and marinated artichoke hearts. Â See photo. Â Looks good, right? Â Well, it was really good. Â Not amazing, but good. Â
If there's one thing missing from the ingredient menu it's FRESH MOZZARELLA!
I liked this pizza. Â It was good, but not great. Â I liked the selection and they cooked easily and well at home. Â We went to the store and picked up and it took some time to get the order. Â More than I expected. Â We also go cinnamon rolls which were gross. Â No one ate them and they ended up in the trash. Â The cinnamon didn't seem mixed with sugar and was overpoweringly strong.
Review Source:Their pizza looks amazing!! Â I would totally eat a slice. Â You know, if someone else took it home, put it in the oven, cut it into cute little triangles (or squares, I don't discriminate) and delivered it to me. Â That whole cook it at home thing is a bit too time consuming. Â I prefer instant gratification when it comes to the pie! Â
AND moving on. Â This review is actually for their salads. Â BEASTLY!! Â My favorite is the Cobb salad. Â Fresh and delicious. Â What more can I ask for?! Â I'm giving Homemade 4 stars instead of 5 because I haven't tried most of their menu items so I'd prefer to reserve full judgement until I try another item. Â That's my logic and I'm sticking to it.
I wouldn't say the pizza moves me as much as their salads.
They are phenomenal. FRESH and customizable loved the costarican they had over the summer and the staff is so amazing they still make it for me. Spinach salad, Cabo Salad.....the list goes on!!!!
I personally always have trouble making the pizza perfect at home....and I usually like making my own pizzas when at home.....it's hard for me to pay $18 for a large make at home pizza when I know I can do it myself for less.
BUT the salads are worth every penny! and if you get the homemade card every 6th salad is free!
I have yet to try their pizza, believe it or not, but stop in frequently to pick up a salad on my way home. They make it on the fly, it's fresh and tasty, and I earn "rewards" for it...just as if I was ordering a whole pie. Make sure you get a loyalty card next time you are in if you don't have one!
Review Source:Amazing pizza!
I hadn't been here since they first opened on the Goldcoast and totally forgot how great and *affordable* their pizza was!
I stopped in a couple nights ago after work when I was in the mood for pizza but didn't wanna dine in somewhere but also didn't want to spend $30 on carrying out good pizza or $10 on sh***y pizza...so what options did I have?? HOMEMADE PIZZA!
The staff here is sooo friendly! My wait was only 5 min and the cost was only $15 for a large fresh sausage pizza!
It's SO simple to cook at home, can't wait for another pizza night!
This is only a few blocks away and I've never been disappointed. Â Their Miesian is a trusty standby and their Cobb salad with balsamic dressing is a great starter. Â One time, they forgot an ingredient I requested on the side and they even offered to deliver it to me for free. Â Because I didn't want to wait, they were quick to offer compensation on a future order. Â Everyone here is super friendly!! Â Only con- can be a bit pricey.
Review Source:We were hanging out in our old hood and stopped by the State Street location to pick up a pizza. Thankfully all their locations are consistent. They did not disappoint. Â Very good quality and taste!

Definitely sign up for the rewards program. The pizza is a much better value when you use your coupons!
Definitely my new favorite find of the holiday season!
I'd had Homemade Pizza Co once or twice before, but the locations were always too far away to merit a quick evening pick up when I didn't want to spend the time making dinner. Now that they've opened a State Street location, just a few blocks from my (parents') house, I'm totally hooked.
The concept, admittedly, is a little funny - pick up or get delivered an *unbaked* pizza of your choice. You can also get salads, sodas, etc. It's like an odd cross between Domino's and DiGiorno, but the pizza is sooooo much better.
Before, when making pizza at home, we've always had to use a pizza stone and worry if it was cooking evenly. Not so with Homemade Pizza Co. It really does work to just slide it in on the parchment and use the cardboard round to pull it out. Also, they say not to cook more than one pizza in the oven at once without rotating them, but it actually works just fine to do two.
We've tried the cheese, pepperoni, Miesian, mushroom, and barbecued chicken and really liked all of them. The cheese and BBQ chicken were probably the favorites. We're also "members" so looking forward to working our way to a free pizza. Oh! And we tried one of the salads last week, with apples and bacon, and that was worthwhile as well.
Homemade Pizza Co is absolutely delicious and simple as pie. Orders for pick up (call ahead) are usually ready in about 20 minutes, the estimated delivery time is an hour, and I believe you can also just pop in and pick up any of the pizzas they have in the case. It's a little expensive, but totally worth it.
Now I'm back in California and desperately wishing they'd open up a Palo Alto location!
I have to admit that when this place opened I was like whaaaaaat? Who wants to buy a pizza to take home and bake themselves when they can just order one already cooked from a pizza place??
BUT
I've been converted......
I've ordered from here prob 4 or 5 times......I love love love that you can do it all online and pop in for a pick-up or have it delivered......the staff is always so nice and helpful when I go in, zero attitude....the prices are good (psssst.....they always have coupons and deals!).....and the pizzas are pretty damn good......fresh ingredients, freshly prepared and def not drowning in pools of oil. I usually get a salad to go along with my 'za and I crave their creamy garlic dressing.....plus I like that in the time it takes me to heat up the oven and pop in my pie.....I can sit down and enjoy my salad because if I order regular pizza delivery and a salad.....let's be honest.....I'm going straight for the pizza and the salad is just an afterthought. As far as issues.....I'm a cracker thin crust kind of gal and their crust is a little doughy for me......but if you cook it a little longer it will crisp up nicely. Also.....sauce is boss....and I would like a little more please.
Overall......it's close to home....user friendly and tasty.....win/win!
Are you serious? Â The success of this oxymoronic "home made" pizza that is assembled in a glorified lab and then heated by your own two hands at home is a surefire sign that the American brain is going down the drain.
Yes, it's true. Â You pay $18ish per pie, heat the pie yourself, and they don't even tip you. Â If I'm lazy enough to order a pizza, I'm certainly too lazy to heat an oven, watch the timer, and risk breaking a nail for a slice.
We picked up a couple pies at a friend's request, and I have to admit the fresh herb pizza was good. Â But not make-my-own-pizza for $18 great.
I was really excited that this place was opening right outside my house. Opening day was yesterday and they had a tent set up right outside of their shop, making pizzas and giving out slices to everyone who walked by. I tried a piece of the classic cheese pizza and it was AMAZING! Seriously, really good quality pizza. I was expecting it to be good, I've never been to any of the other locations, but I was not expecting it to be THIS gooood. I will most definitely be back to try their other pizzas. They also have a wide variety of salads, which I will also be trying. Thanks homemade pizza for opening this location!
