It's rare that I go to a non dive bar so I may be easily impressed but this place is gorgous. From the spacious interior with the comfortable backed bar stools and lounge seating to the backyard patio. The outdoor space has a great layout and design with plenty of plants and seperate nooks that make it seem like you're in your own special area of the yard. My only slight complains about the patio is that the AC unit for the bar is in the back of the patio and the hum of the fan is too loud to get a silent and serene garden experience, and the misquito situation out there is pretty horrible, they really need to put out citronella candles/torches. I was out there for 20 minutes and ended up with like 8 bites.

As mentioned, this isn't a dive, is a classy yet down to earth establishment, really an ideal date spot. They do have a great looking menu of food but it's limited as this isn't a restaurant. The beer, especially on tap is also a bit limited as well though the craft beers were interesting. Huckleberry is really a cocktail bar.

The average price for beer is $6-7, cocktails $11-12, and wine $8-11. They have a very good happy hour which runs from 4-8pm Mon-Fri and 2-4pm on weekends. It's $3 off cocktails, $2 off draft beers, well drinks, and house wines. They also have a special going right now where the wine is 2 for 1 on Wednesdays after 8pm. In the summer they even screen movies.

I'm more of a cheap beer and dive bar kind of guy but I love that I now know a great place to get a more quiet, comfortable, and higher class drink without paying too much or feeling out of place.

Excellent food and drinks, but every time I've been there the waiter or waitress is MIA.

So you'd like to nerd out and watch Game of Thrones while sipping an "Iron Throne" Ommegang?" But what's that? Your girlfriend thinks your tv watching is at an all-time-high and she'd like to get a nice cocktail and sit in a lush garden or backyard patio? Enter compromise: Huckleberry Bar. My many thanks to whatever genius came up with the idea to project Game of Thrones in a classy space (not to mention Mad Men). And when the season is over, you have the summer to enjoy the fantastic backyard and the interesting seasonal cocktails. All of which are strong and well-crafted.

Great spot, came here on a Thursday night and it wasn't too packed.  Loved being able to sit outside, reasonable prices, what more could you want??  I wouldn't say this is a destination spot, but if you're in the area, I couldn't think of a better spot to grab a drink...

I'm so glad I stumbled upon this place. Bartenders were very friendly and very professional. They really seemed to know their drinks, down to the lemon rind squeeze. I ordered a Sicilian tuna sandwich and it was so simple yet so fresh. It came with just the right amount of salad which was equally delicious, I finished the plate and wasn't full but wasn't hungry either. It left me with just the right amount of satisfaction. I will have to return one day to try out their drinks as they all looked delicious. The atmosphere is very comfortable and they have a nice outdoor patio.

Great cocktails, great music, great vibe, although pretty crowded on weekend nights.
The bouncers were super friendly, the bartenders were super friendly, and our bartender made me an awesome cocktail when I said I liked gin, fizzy, and elderflower.
Not cheap, but definitely a great place for drinks with a friend or significant other. Also, they have really cute matches to take home. This makes me love it.

Oh how I love this bar! I got pulled here by chance for a friends Bday party a while ago, and literally stayed at this bar for hours and hours! The drinks were delicious, the bartenders were rad, and the music was awesome! Nothing like walking into a bar that smells like the sweet smell of mixology!

Always a good place to hang! Great cocktails made with fresh ingredients, tasty food bites and good music which is mostly indie... The bacon wrapped dates and Mac and cheese is must!

Hip little place out in Brooklyn! Came here on a Friday night with some friends and grabbed drinks in the back area. Really cool looking back patio that would be great for warmer nights. Drinks weren't bad nor too expensive, and the noise level and lighting was comfortable. Wouldn't mind coming back if I'm in the area!

All the things that many Brooklyn bars try to be.

We don't drink in Brooklyn much, and when we do it us often a strange experience. We past Huckleberry after a stroll through some back alleys in East Williamsburg (don't ask about that) and decided to stop in for a drink. I was a little skeptical about the signs for a massive record sale in the window, but I figured I could suppress my Manhattan pretensions long enough to enjoy a mimosa.

Huckleberry had all the things I associate with Williamsburg bars. There was a dog roaming around being petted by everyone. There was a woman breast feeding her new born. There was a guy with a skateboard and there were hipsters everywhere. Normally, this combination is lethal for me. Not this time. Neither the dog nor the baby caused any drama. The hipsters bought their vinyl and grooved to the music without getting on your nerves. The music was a combination of jazz and R&B that went very well with day drinking. The drinks themselves were well made expressions of the classics and the service worked well too.

I doubt that I will ever go back to Huckleberry because I'm rarely in that part of town, but this bar has set the standard for me in terms of the Brooklyn Bar experience. I hope everyone else can keep up.

    Have fun,
    G

Great cocktails. Great back patio. Nice decor/bathrooms. Bartenders are helpful and make drinks perfectly.

I like the comment that its a dive bar and a cocktail bar rolled into one. its like a dive bar with good drinks. To me though when you get a drink with 3-4 ingredients mixed together, $11 bucks is fair by nyc standards.

    I love coming here.

Amazing cachaca drinks.  A nice local spot to throw back a few and maybe get involved in a late night dance party!  Good crowd mix but early in the night most people are just looking at each other with limited mingling.

I really love the huckleberry for one-on-one catch ups with friends and dates with the b/f. It's cozy on the weeknights and a little rowdy (but fun!) on the weekends. And the drinks are awesome. I'm partial to the gold rush :)

I absolutely adore Huckleberry Bar.  It really combines the best of both worlds.  A cocktail bar and a dive bar rolled into one.

I was lucky enough to come here with some friends who live in the city and really, I wish I was there right now enjoying their take on an old fashioned as well as a regular old fashioned.  Prices are also cheap (compared to DC) at about $11 a drink.  Not bad at all IMO.

I also loved the crowd too, lots of people dancing later into the evening.  If you get tired or just want to chill they have a seating area outside in the back.

Places like this make me wish I lived in NYC.  Meh

One of my favorite cocktail spots in the city. It's relatively accessible, despite being in East Williamsburg. The cocktails are a great value at $11-13, but at the quality of the top spots in Manhattan like Death & Co. or PDT. Reservations aren't needed. On a weekend night, the place was not too crowded. On a warm night, it's probably a perfect place to enjoy a cocktail outside as there is an outdoor area in the back.

It's a warm and cozy cocktail place with really delicious cocktails.

Good drinks, not perfect, but better than most, lotsa room but gets busy, takes a while to get service.  If I am around, I'd stop by, but I would not be trekking off my island to this bar for this establishment alone.

WOW. I was so wrong. I can't stop apologizing. This was an amazing experience. Came back on a Saturday night. The DJ spinned some old school hip hop that got my veins pulsating the whole time. Great vibe.

    Love this place!
Went here last night at around 11:45pm with 2 friends.

Great cocktails, really nice interior that was well thought out but doesn't give off that 'we're really trying to hard' vibe.
Crowd was cool too, the garden in the back was nice but already filled by the time we got there.

    Will definitely be back!

Holy Huckleberry. Moments like these makes me so appreciative of Yelp.

Wandering around Grand St., trying to figure out what is a gentrified and what is not, how confusing. Whatever.

What in the world are VITTLES?

OMFG. All I can say is GET THE SAMPOGNA. Jalapeno-infused tequila, elderflower liqueur, honey and fresh lemon.

JET PILOT gave me the Asian flush. Too much rum and absinthe makes my brain swim in a fermented mess. Might actually be a good thing, but remind me to take an H2 blocker prior...

WHY IN THE WORLD WAS EVERYONE IN HERE SO MESMERIZED WITH WATCHING CARRIE THE MOVIE AND AT VERY LOUD DECIBELS??
That was just total weirdness. Brooklyn hipsters I tell you...

Hot hot bartenders with sleeve tattoos peeking out all over the place. Nothing like some nice suspenders to keep my imagination ACTIVE!

I went to this place on a Saturday afternoon with a few co-workers and I was not disappointed. The place is very well designed and the backyard was excellent. As for the drinks I was in the mood for a pisco sour something that was not listed on the menu, I asked the bartender if they carry pisco which my guess was not but to my surprise they did.

all of my co-workers ended up having pisco sours at 10 bucks each it was a deal for pisco sour in williamsburg.  I will be coming back to this place for sure.

Me: "Do you have sloe gin, can you make me a sloe gin fizz?"
Bartender: "...Of course," incredulous I would even ask if he had those ingredients or the capacity to make a fizz, which takes about 10 minutes and gives you biceps like crazy. I love me some egg whites in cocktails but I'm too scrawny to foam them properly, not for lack of effort.

Drinks: On par with anything you'd get at little branch/death&co/PDT etc. (but 11$ v. 16$)
Food: Amazing charcuterie plate with so much meat I couldn't even finish it, and I am NEVER one to leave meat unconsumed. Also have these cutesy puff-pastry-hot-dogs that were damn good.
Patio: Much bigger, cleaner than anything you'll find in manhattan. They grow grapes!! precious.
Service: Fabulous. And you can smoke on their patio, should you be so carcinogen-ly inclined

I think it's the only time I've ever mentioned to a friend "oh you have to check out this place in brooklyn, it's like manhattan, only better."

The backyard's cute, the bar's okay, but I'm not feeling it. I've been here a few times, and every time I've gone the crowd has been totally like a Meatpacking District bar was teleported to Williamsburg. You can see the line of taxis from Manhattan stopping out front to drop people off. I mean, I guess if you're tired of "hipster bars" (whatever that means) and want to change a scenery, check this place out--it's just not my crowd. Also the DJ always plays awful/loud music. I REALLY do like the backyard though in the spring/summer, which is why I've come back a few times.

And don't get me wrong, they have an extensive menu with all sorts of beers/wine/cocktails so there's lots of choices... but... Eh. For the prices, I'd rather go to Hotel Delmano or Larry Lawrence or Ba'sik. I'd check it out during the week if you've never been, because the weekends are abysmal. I probably won't come back unless I'm stuck on Grand Street and a voodoo priestess is sticking pins in a doll replica of my legs preventing me from walking to the closest cocktail bar that isn't this one. But, uhh, besides that, it's okay.

Failing my New Years Eve plans A, B, and C...Huckleberry Bar came thru for my late, but still successful plan D. I quickly noticed the sea of hipsters gathering around the door as I waited in line (for 45 mins!) and it was all I could do not to be swept away in the wave of off-center scarfs, black rimmed glasses, skinny jeans, and overly pretentious talk---yes I do think the retrospective look at global warming effects could have better shaped our society into a more functional role model for other countries.

The theme of the evening was a Masquerade party and these Brooklyn party-goers showed no shame in their ornately decorated masks and off beat dancing. I escaped outside away from the bad 90s music (DJ hand spun) which I gather was supposed to be ironic but it fell short for me, to the back outside with small garden area. There were more secluded tables and a tiny bar only serving wine and beer (no cocktails) since I had been ignored at the bar for nearly 10 minutes while I waited patiently and tried to flag down the one of three rotating bartenders. Apparently I wasn't showing enough cleavage to get serviced (that's what she said!) so I'll remember next time to just plop my nipple on the bar if I want a good tequila sunrise.

Anyway....if you remove the hipsters, the bad 90s revival music, the slow service, and the 45 minute wait outside in 40 degree weather this place wasn't so bad. I really enjoyed the layout of the space and the decoration. It has a 1940s feel going. I'm sure on other days besides NYE it has an entirely different vibe but I'm not sure I want to make the trek to Crooklyn when I'm in NY again just to verify that.

I always like a one stop shop and Huckleberry Bar, in the part of Williamsburg that has not yet been entirely consumed by gentrification and uber-emo trenders, is a gem.  With a comfortable charm that feels both new and old, every walk is welcomed. And my walk was steadied by their selection of focused yet thoughtful food and drink. Thus my two visits, an evening and the subsequent sensible brunch, yielded fabulous edible finds for any time the clock tells - even for a slim wallet.

Opened in 2007 by team Andy Boggs and Stephanie Schneider, they were no strangers to the restaurant industry having worked for big brand name Danny Meyer (Shake Shack, Blue Smoke, etc.). Andy was determined to open a great bar in under-the-radar Brooklyn that left the oft-found pretension of Manhattan on that island. "Fancy without the fussy," he quotably said, adding that being hospitality-driven is what sets this spot apart - and he is right. You will not find a smug eye-roll from the bartender if you mispronounce Cynar (chi-nar), an artichoke-based bitter, or if you disregard the thoughtful drink list and order a vodka-soda. The cocktails (spearheaded by Stephanie) run the gamut from seasonal to classics to unconventional concoctions. If you don't know what you want, you can order an expertly crafted bartender's choice, varied with any spirit of your choosing and a dash of creativity.

On my first visit I opted for the "Brooklyn" ($11), which classic "Manhattan" drinkers would appreciate. As a Bourbon girl, I was intrigued by their medley of Rye whiskey, dry vermouth, house-made bitters, and a touch of Maraschino liqueur. That requisite orange tang still made an impact in the form of a large citrus peel, and the chilled liquid was a lovely rendition on tradition.

Brunch booze made their marks as well, first with a bubbly "Botanical Garden" ($11) with gin, sweet vermouth and Proseco, cleverly offset by bitters and zesty lemon. Nothing better than a sparkling start to the required brunch egg dish: this one a hearty bake of savory "Lamb Merguez" sausage ($9) stewed in a smokey tomato-harissa sauce. Nestling two soft, yolky eggs, with plush bread for the soaking, the depth of flavor and smooth texture only leaves you wanting more.

As a supplement, I cocktail capped my meal with "William Miller" ($11) another whiskey choice (surprised?), but this time a salty bacon-infused Bourbon with my name written all over it. Simply finished with more whiskey liqueur Drambuie (Scotch variety) and orange bitters, this drink is straight to the point - and to the head.

The citrus undertones would pair perfectly with my evening bar bites of Bacon-Wrapped Dates ($6) and Sweet Potato Salad ($7). The former was that satisfying sweet and salty palate pair stuffed with creamy gouda for that mild mouth-melt. Also complex on the tongue was the salad's  soft sweet potato chunks accentuated by even sweeter dried cherries, but balanced by piquant arugula and crunchy pumpkin seeds.

This was just the beginning of Huckleberry intrigue, with a menu (conceived by Chef Seth Johnson) that has a manifold of titillating pickings and an extensive drink list that will take many visits to tastefully touch. With sandwiches, toasts, charcuterie and sweets, I already have my eye on the Rabbit Terrine, the warm Nutella & Ricotta press, and the "Hop Scotch Morning" (chai-infused Scotch, espresso, milk and coconut cream) that will certainly wake you up! If you haven't already, get hip to this non-hipster anomaly.

I should preface this by saying my first visit here was on NYE, admittedly an outlier of an evening, when a bar that is typically solid can get plain out of control. But not this bar.

Time Out NY did me a service by suggesting this place as an ideal no-cover spot for NYE, and Huckleberry Bar did me another by making it plain that space was limited and it was bound to get crowded quick. We got there early, but apparently so did everyone else, because there were only a handful of seating options left when we arrived (in this case seating options means the two steps by the patio windows). The place was so packed that our first two drinks took what seemed like half the night, but the wait was more than made up for by the bartender's great attitude and the fact that he bought our drinks to apologize for the long delay. The bar got increasingly packed by the hour, but kudos to those bartenders (and the waitresses!) because they kept the cocktails flowing at a great pace given the crowd.

General notes: The atmosphere is swank to match the menu of mixology cocktails and fancy sandwiches. We must have tried over half the menu of specialty drinks (don't judge) at $10 per, the boy was gaga for the scotch-based Blood and Sand, and we thought they were all expertly mixed. Had the pastrami/gouda and ham/cheese sandwiches to soak up the booze and were really impressed with the size and great taste for $9. Crowd style is hipsters with bank accounts, but I can't knock them too much bc one of them gave me the heads up when a much coveted table opened up next to them. I danced, I got drunk, I can't wait to go back.

In this establishment several things happened:

Melga Smarmy* got me to drink a whiskey drink I liked -- their Sazerac.

She was also hit on by two fine officers of the law. (Regulars apparently, so this review is also of them.)

Said officers of the law plied me with foodstuffs to get closer to Smarmy.

    Figures.

I love that this place has multiple areas in which to do your drinkin'. You have your tables, your booths, your sunken lower area, you have your wrap-around bar and you have your outdoor patio.

This was Melga's and my last stop after supping on delightful tuna tartar at Le Comptoir. My lady can drink, so she ordered up a Mary Queen of Scotch (it should totally be called a Melga Queen of Scotch) which is Scotch, Cognac, Sherry, Benedictine, Peychaud's and Angostura Bitters. Attagirl!

In my eternal hunt for the best gin cocktail ever made, I had the Brooklyn Born, which is Gin, Cocchi Americano, Hybiscus Tea & Lemon. Hers was manly as usual (for a 90lb woman) and mine was a little disappointing. Well made but overpowered by maybe the cocchi? I wanted to taste more gin and hibiscus.

Onwards, Melga ordered Sazeracs for us both while I was in the bathroom. (Classic guerilla drinking technique often utilized by the likes of Melga Smarmy). Now this thing was classic. Made with as much attention to detail as the other two, Whiskey, Peychaud's Bitters, Pernod, Sugar & Lemon Twist combined to make a delightful mix of manly whiskey and lightening elements. I was sold. Melga might even start to respect me now. Maybe.

There was also a tasty plate of bacon wrapped dates that were handed to us by the long arm of the law. These guys would have done anything to climb over me and into the good graces of Melga Smarmy. I know how they feel, so I was probably too nice when we played the "what do you do" guessing game. Their clues were dumbfounding, so I was generously giving them jobs like : spy, security analyst, bodyguard.

Yeah... they were cops. But a cop nice enough to send over crispy bacon wrapped dates ain't half bad.

Steps away from my domicile and a minute walk from such classy venues as Barcade and Union Pool, is a cuter, classed up version of The Woods with much better offerings...although some may argue that life doesn't get better than pbr/tequila combos with a side of dirty tacos. But that's not the point, is it...

I still can't get over how much Grand Street has changed (no New Yorker lamenting days gone by here, I'm embracing the change as far as my arms will go and more...). Huckleberry is an awesome neighborhood option, and possibly a nice retreat worthy of an occasional trek for Manhattanites - especially on the weekend?

We tried two specialty cocktails followed by many Sazeracs. After moving from the back garden to the bar, we were tempted by the yumm-o smell coming from a mere foot away and tried a grilled cheese sandwich with a shallot marmalade. I think it might have inspired someone to go and make more the next day... no judgment!

    Will be back

Williamsburg, BK is pretty low on my list of places I enjoy.  In fact it may be at the bottom.  Asshole hipsters crowding L Trains, a severe lack of cabs and general feeling of garbagey-ness (made up a word, but you like it) have made the experience of venturing into this outer-borough area quite unpleasant for me.  I have been known to generalize and say I HATE BROOKLYN.  Which is not TOTALLY TRUE, but I like saying it for dramatic effect.  I digress.

A good friend - one whose home address is a Manhattan ZIP code - decided to have his birthday here.  Though I acknowledged his penchant for hipster boys (ugh) I couldn't totally understand the reverse-commute bday bar.  In typical Gossip Girl fashion, I arrived with my entourage in a black limo (....yellow cab) and made a grand entrance into a space that was decidedly much cuter than I expected.  Actually, this place was really cute - and the outdoor patio was big and oh-so-summery.  Maybe this wasn't SO bad.

There was a cool, laid-back vibe that was dissimilar to most other bars in the burg.  I ordered my first drink, a Sampogna - a Jalepeno Infused Tequila, St. Germain, Honey and Fresh Lemon cocktail.  Sweet and spicy...and delicious.  Wow.  OK.  MMM.  Yes.  Another one please.

The drink menu included other gems like a cucumber-infused Mezcal - which I did not try - but plan to next time I'm feeling outer-borough-y

This Williamsburg gem is quite interesting.  On a friday night you can get a mix of throwbacks from the DJ that go all the way back to the 60s at times.  There is a nice vibe and sometimes its crowded.

The drinks are slightly pricey, especially for Williamsburg, but not for NY in general.  I don't think I saw anything over $15.  That being the case, the drinks are actual designer cocktails that are carefully made and blended, not well mixed drinks.  Over $10 in Brooklyn for a vodka cran would shock the mind.  For a Jalapeno infused tequila cocktail, with some peppers in it, that has my attention.  And it was good.  Commonsensical tip, they are good bartenders and what they sell isnt limited to the drink menu.  I once went in and they made some drinks with eggs and it was actually good.  It was a spin on a classic.

I have been there several times with friends and each time we found a nice vibe and decent drinks.  There is some crazy people watching to be had.

This place is pretty mainstream and if hipsters leave you with a pencil in your pocket, well make sure you bring your sharpener, cause you are gonna have a lot to write about.

There were so many amazing reviews that Huckleberry seemed like a no-brainer when I was looking for a new bar in the hood. It was a Friday night and I met a friend there for drinks and a much-needed catch up.

The space has an amazing speakeasy-at-the-Autobahn Society-feeling.  The drink menu is beyond inventive with seasonal cocktails next to old standbys and a terrific beer and wine selection. I had a Kostrizer Schwatzbier which is amazing, but relatively hard to find, and the jalapeno-infused tequila concoction. I love me some tequila, but the jalapeno overpowered everything else in the drink.

I was a little peckish, and tried the bacon-wrapped dates with smoked gouda. Holy Jesus in the manger - I've had a million different permutations of this dish, but none so delicious.

I was a little disappointed in the drink, but so it goes when you try something new. Most notably, our waitress was totally uneducated. She was unable to make any drink recommendations, didn't know what cheese was in the mac 'n cheese, and wasn't able to answer any of our questions regarding the drink menu.

Only two dates, and I've fallen in love...

No, not with a person, silly, with Huckleberry Bar.

I enjoyed Huckleberry on so many levels. First, I just want to point out that I like the name. Ok. Moving along.

The mixed drinks and wine selection are fantastic. I'm generally not a fan of mixed drinks (see my review of Little Branch, which is the only other place I'll consume them), but these are works of art in a glass. Special mention: a fellow yelper had an Article 57, which included citrus-infused Luksusowa vodka and fresh ginger juice; he let me try it, and dayummmm...

The food isn't an afterthought, but carefully crafted. The menu is small (and the plates are small), but it offers something for everyone. I loved the goat cheese ricotta crostini with espelette pepper. The marinated olives -- a good-sized bowl of 'em for only $4 -- were delicious.

The staff were lovely. When I first entered, I thought the server was a friend-of-a-friend who I had yet to meet, as she was chatting so comfortably and sweetly with the guests in my group. More props to her and the rest of the staff because of the following story... It seems a young mother cat had recently decided to call the back garden home. She promptly gave birth to a litter of beautiful kittens and set up camp. I met the kitties when they were 2 weeks old, and by then, the Huckleberrians had found adoptive homes for them, and had plans to bring the mom in to be spayed. Way to go.

Ok, we'll go back inside now, where there's a long bar, separate little high tables, and a lounge-y area. Great amount of space. Full, but not super-crowded, both times I was there.

I felt very at-home here, both inside and outside. There is an utter lack of pretension.

Bravo. I hope Huckleberry keeps it up at 5 stars.

    News Bulletin :
AMA recommends a daily jalapeno infused tequila cocktail for happiness and general well-being.

Okay, maybe they haven't recommended this yet but it's only because they haven't had the Sampogna at Huckleberry Bar. This is the one to choose to lift your spirits and kick start your heart.  Made with St. Germain, honey, lemon and above mentioned tequila it's quite powerful but surprisingly smooth. The effect of the jalapeno is more of a simmer than a burn. The Gentleman's Martini, on the other hand, exposed me for the man I'm not. I had a taste, it was too strong for me, but not for the lady who ordered it.  While I dislike martini glasses (spillage), I was very fond of the Aviation, not quite as powerful as the Gentleman's Martini with just the right amount of sweetness.

Consuming this much alcohol without food is ill-advised and The Huckleberry has pretty good snack offerings. The pigs in a blanket ($6), with italian sausage in place of hot dog,  was so good we got a second order. The pastry was light and the sausage was spicy without being greasy. The bacon wrapped dates ($6) were pleasant but  the real surprise for me were the hard boiled eggs ($2.50).  No, I'm not a 70 yr old man but I really dug these eggs. I'm not sure if it was the sea salt they were sitting in or the garlic mayo dipping sauce but they were excellent.
This is a wonderful, unpretentious bar. While they do cocktails well and reasonably ($10 on average), they also serve beer and wine. In addition to a pretty spacious indoor area, there is an outdoor area for the contradictory purposes of getting fresh air and smoking.

The Huckleberry Bar not doctor recommended, ....... but it should be.

In the south-east quadrant of Manhattan, fashionable cocktail lounges are slinky, swanky, silky and allege to employ more educated barkeeps ('mixologists'; 'librarians'; 'pharmacists'). These scholarly sirs and madams peddle potables at $15 a pop, and have fancy coifs, stylish aprons, and Wikipedia entries.

In Williamsburg , fashionable cocktail lounges are low-key, low-lit and spacious. Solid classic and delicious seasonal cocktails at $10 a class, and an airy garden make Huckleberry your huckleberry*. I had a sip of Sazerac and Aviation, and deeply enjoyed the kicky (jalapeno tequila) Sampogna, and the Faith and Fortitude - but everything on the menu looked so enticing that I can't wait to return to sample the rest.

*If the idiom isn't familiar, it roughly means being the right person for a given job, with ample overtones of humility, hospitality and friendliness.

Past the bodegas, nail salons and Key Foods, you will find this inconspicuous gem nestled right on Grand Street. Unless you happen to notice the small, fancy-looking 'H' above the entrance, you could easily miss out on this beautiful bar.

I threw my birthday party at Huckleberry over the weekend and it was perfect! It was super easy to reserve a couple tables for my friends in advance and service was attentive and friendly. The DJ was awesome too. He played great beats that served as ideal background music until the dance party started around 11 p.m. To be clear: we started the dance party, he made sure to rock the right music. Definitely didn't disappoint!

And now, a rundown of my birthday drinks. Gotta love your friends and cute strangers on your big night:

    1. Jack Rose - oh-so-delicious applejack with grenadine, yummmyy
    2. Maria Canevari - ick. I was fooled by the maraschino, cherry bitters and vanilla. Somehow all I could taste was the rum. Not for me :/
    3. SoCo shot with lime - meh, I've had better
    4. Lemon Drop - ok, so this was actually a "birthday shot" someone bought for me, meaning that's exactly what he asked the bartender for. I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be a Lemon Drop. It was quite sour. Go to Huckleberry for the cocktails, not the shots.
    5. Pilsner - (at least, that's what I was told the beer was) hm, somehow my drink list really downgraded from classy to trashy, but the "Pilsner" on tap was good. ;)

Make sure to visit the back patio, it's super cute and perhaps even a wee bit romantic. My favorite part is feeling like you're at an upscale party in someone's backyard -- the garden faces apartment buildings and homes in case you forget you're in Williamsburg.

Allusion: 1548, from L. allusionem (nom. allusio) "a playing with, a reference to," from allus-, stem of alludere (see allude). An allusion is never an outright or explicit mention of the person or thing the speaker seems to have in mind.

    And I love Allusions.

Now I could clearly link the Huckleberry allusion to the bluish fruit but I won't. I want to believe that this bar to which I walked blocks and blocks amidst the cold and disgusting snow-rain, is alluding to Mark Twain's character from "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer". They better.

I entered to find myself in a suave and subdued environment; sleek and clean and fitting to party and order some champagne or vodka tonics and get you drunk on a Saturday night. And though I didn't find my Becky Thatcher that night, I'd definitely go back in Spring days to peruse the outdoor patio and explore the cocktail options.

Delusion :"act of misleading someone, 1552. See delude. Technically, delusion is a belief that, though false, has been surrendered to and accepted by the whole mind as a truth.

Who am I kidding? I'm not trekking up here again unless a Becky entices me herself.

Huckleberry is my new favorite bar. I like having a neighborhood place that sometimes feels like everyone is local and you can just hang out with your friends and sometimes feels like a bit of a scene where you can meet someone new. They have a sophisticated drink list that includes a mix of traditional and seasonal cocktails as well as a nice selection of IPAs and microbrews on tap.

The space is beautifully designed- it has a sleek bar, comfy tables and an outside patio that is begging to be used (please summer, come back!) I love the black tin walls and generally dark feel to the atmosphere- it has Manhattan style with Brooklyn charm mixed in. I quickly befriended the two lovely owners and have been trading tips on liquor licenses and contractor recommendations per my new place in the same 'hood. Also, it seems to be a popular place for special events and parties as evidenced by the fact that I've decided to have my birthday party here next month.

All said, in the short time it has been open, there are a number of reasons why Huckleberry has made my life better...now how many bars can you say that about?
