Overall I have had a pretty good experience here. Â Mostly lunches and breakfast a couple of times. Â Food is good, served at temperature and generally creative and tasty. Knocking a few stars as the service seems to have deteriorated significantly. Â Can't rate the food from our latest visit as we never did get served! Â Seated at the counter, had to request menus. Â No problem. Â Had to request someone to take our drink order - slightly annoying but not huge. Â Watched at least three parties that came in after us have their orders taken AND at least one delivered. Â Asked if we could place an order and were told "I am not your server but I will let her know"
We left.
Try upping the game just a bit and we'll return for another try ourselves.
I positively love the Hudson. Â I work the night shift and this place has definently earned its place on the list of best places to drink before noon in Seattle. Â The brisket omelette is positively amazing and the bloody mary's are some of the best in the city.
The staff is always extremely friendly and polite and yet they still manage to be fast and accurate. Â I'm already looking forward to my next trip. Â
If your thinking of going to the 5 Point Cafe I'd really recommend this place instead.
Looks like I'm in the minority here but this place is just "ok" in my book.
The drinks were good. The blood mary is fantastic. The beer cocktail that includes St Germaine is a disappointment. None of the floral notes of the elderflower showed through and it ended up tasting like passion fruit kool-aide mixed with beer. Sad panda.
The food was just...meh. The fries with cheese sauce were way less exciting than they should have been. Not enough salt? Or cheese? Or something? I don't know... just flat.
I ordered the veggie chicken fried steak because my rule is to always support fun and interesting veggie options. Again... it was ok. No real complaints but nothing to right home about either. The breading was kind of soggy and the "steak" was kind of mushy. The gravy lacked flavor. Overall... it was a moderately flavorless pile of beige mush. Sad Panda, again.
The atmosphere was pleasent. We had no trouble getting a table for 4 at 8pm on a Friday night. Parking was a breeze. I'll probably be back.
I have mixed feelings about writing this review, because I'm afraid if this joint becomes better known, it might be hard to get a table here. Â Alas, I must be honest, and let the World know that Hudson is a very nice spot, and you'd probably enjoy it.
The space is cozy and comfortable, housed in an old brick building on the western edge of industrial Georgetown seating is a nice mix of booths and small tables arranged around a u-shaped bar. Â I'm not sure this is a great place for large groups, though.
If you like 'diner food', you'll love this place. Â American diner classics like chicken fried steak (better than average, actually), pork chops, and other goodies populate the fairly large menu. Â The portions are generous without being 'Claim Jumper' obscene, and the prices are reasonable. Â The staff is gracious as well. Â Side dishes feature fresh produce, and the mashed potatoes don't come from a box.
Overall, a nice little spot that only looks like a dive. Â If you want gritty, industrial ambiance with food that's several notches better than the neighborhood, this is a good place to check out.
Amazing cobb salad! The food is great and worth the price! It is very small and can be verrry crowded but since my usual lunch hour is @11 I have only experienced the crowd twice. granted the service can be hot and cold depending on who serves you as far as friendliness goes..but I say again..the food is ttttaaasssty! If you are going to spend 10 bucks in Georgetown on lunch don't bother woth Alki Bakery...come squeeze in here. Not the fastest so don't if in a rush.
Review Source:The server was smacking their gum at the table, and wouldn't let me order french fries because their was 10 min. left of breakfast, even though we were the only new table in the restaurant at the time. We also found hair in our food and the pancakes were not hot when delivered to the table. The server was rude and probably racist.
Review Source:I had the breakfast tacos and I could not stop eating! My friend had the brisket omelet. Both of us enjoyed our food. Hudson's is a great deal for a great price. My tacos had just enough cheese and the right balance of ingredients. I'm not usually a fan of sour cream, but I will have them in these tacos again! The only disappointment was the Bloody Mary. I like mine just a bit more savory. Our server was great and the food came out fast. I left stuffed and wanting more. I will be back!
Review Source:I came home from work on a Saturday and my boyfriend said. "let's go out!" I love impromptu date night! He suggested something in Georgetown, and I remembered that I've been wanting to try Hudson. The atmosphere is right up my alley -- horseshoe bar in the middle, tables around the perimeter, in an old funky warehouse-ish building with high ceilings, gorgeous multi-pane windows, and vintage b & w photos on the walls. The feel is nice but not uptight. BF ordered the brisket, which was melt-in-your-mouth tender and came with veggies and the most delicious mashed potatoes ever. I ordered a special that sounded strange but was highly recommended by the waitress. I nicknamed it "blue collar surf-and-turf" -- flatiron steak and tuna casserole. O. M. G. Soooo delicious. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the casserole was tangy and creamy and had some sort of awesome in it that gave you a little zing in the back of your throat (BF said it was likely jalapeno in some form. I'm still just calling it awesome).
Here's where we get to the three stars instead of four. The food warranted at least 4 stars. Â But at 7:30, they started the karaoke.
Now, I love me some karaoke. I love to sing. I'm all over it. But there is a time and a place for everything, and when you're serving real food, the dinner hour is NOT the time for karaoke.
Hudson, if you're listening, here's my suggestion: wait until 10:00 to start the karaoke, or lose it entirely. You've got a great thing going, but don't try to be all things to all people. There are many bars in G-town, a good number of casual dining options, and several fairly fancy restaurants. You *have* a bar, but you don't need to *be* a bar, if you know what I mean. IMHO, your perfect niche is that upper middle -- nicer than a bar, but not fancy-schmancy-blow-your-whole-paycheck. There are relatively few of those in the area, so own it and own it well. I look forward to eating here again soon, hopefully without some well-intentioned but tone-deaf woman butchering "Mockingbird" while I eat my dinner.
I ate here this morning and was a bit disappointed in the quality and service. Â I'm vegetarian and specifically asked for veggie sausage in my Francesca scramble. When i received my food i took a bite and immediately knew it was NOT veggie. The restaurant is so dark that even trying to look at it beforehand was impossible to tell. I sent the food back and little apology was given; although i think i handled the situation pretty well without freaking out like a regular person would.
Overall the eggs were slimy, toast was buttered without asking (lactose intolerant), and hashbrowns were freezer burnt.....but hey, its a bar. Would i come back here? No, no i dont think so.
decent breakfast in georgetown with a very georgetown vibe. Â i had the lincoln ave. potatoes sans cheese with 2 over medium eggs. Â the eggs were cooked perfectly, but most of the onions in the potatoes were too raw for my liking and overall it needed some seasoning (thankfully there's a big bottle of hot sauce on every table!). Â there are a few other gluten-free options but not many.
hubby had the deep friend french toast and liked it a lot, but his side of veggie sausage was overcooked, dried out and crumbly. Â the hash browns are good but a very small portion.
the coffee is excellent and the server we had was very friendly, though one of the others seemed like she would rather be somewhere else.
Hudson fits into Georgetown like a quarter into an [old] Lusty Lady booth. RIP Lusty Lady. I miss your billboards.
I don't need to have a gour-'met' breakfast every time I go out; dive bars are fine too. Hudson is at that above-middle-ground breakfast level that usually pleases everybody in your crew (3.5 stars). The Brisket Omelette and French Toast is a good consistent choice according to peeps, but for me, it's all about the Shrimp and Cheesy grits (poached eggs, prease!) I order it every time I come for breaky and I don't feel bad about it at all. Rich etoufee-ish roux-y richness with a generous amount of shrimp, poured on top of perfectly-creamy cheese grits. Mix in the runny egg yolk and spread it on the whole wheat toast like a thick, cheesy butter mmm
It's a shame that I am reviewing now, especially since we've been coming for years, because the last couple of times, our food has been lukewarm instead of hot. And the last 3x, my eggs were not poached right. Today, I had to send the eggs back because they were hardboiled (hates that. Please.don't.spit.in.my.food.haha.) The Monte Cristo was so room temperature, the cheese hadn't even melted; 'had to send that back to get nuked. Bummer. The veggie gravy was just warm (but TASTY) and the biscuit was so hard, the gravy had to soak in--just so I could cut it :/ My replacement eggs took a while, so my Shrimp/Grits were cold by the time they arrived, but I wasn't going to tempt fate and send it back for reheating...
Service has always been great here. I hope that the food prep comes back from its slight spiral to match the service... The teeter-totter is still on the good side, but there are other toys on the playground--'hope that the food gets sorted soon.
We met at the Hudson for a company sales & marketing team breakfast on December 20th. I've driven by before but never stopped. There was 18 of us this morning so we pretty much dominated the place.
I have to say, these guys (gals) were great! We were served in a timely manner, the staff was super helpful, gracious, and a lot of fun. The food was great. I had a good old fashioned comfort breakfast of scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage, and wheat toast and everything was done just right. Good coffee too!
Looking over the other reviews it sounds like I'd better try the shrimp & grits. I'll be back!
When I think of breakfast in Seattle I think Hudson. Â For two reasons, one is I live on Hudson so I frequently have breakfast in my house and two, Hudson is on Hudson. Â During the summer they have an awesome patio to have breakfast outside (which is always a treat in our weather deprived part of the world. Â The staff is great particularly this one dude with a goatee who is always right where you need him with that coffee pot. Speaking of coffee, theirs is aces. Â If you want an omelette the size of a radiator then they have one. I have the biscuit as my choice of bread. Â They make them there and you can tell.
The booths are uncomfortable though so I try to stick to a table. Â They are the wrong height which means I pretty much start thinking about as soon as I sit in one. Â And then the food comes and I stop thinking about the height and get busy eating.
My new favorite hangout spot after work!! Okay, so I have to admit, I have a love affair with dive bars! I just love them! They have character. Basically, I drive past this joint every day (once in the morning when I'm going to work and once at night when I'm driving home from work). Naturally, I thought I'd stop in one day to see if they have a decent happy hour. Little did I know they sell $2 Miller High Life on their happy hour menu! Yes please! They also have beer on tap, well drinks, and plenty of eats on their happy hour menu.
One night, after work, the bartender who was working that night (Lily) told my coworker and me about their awesome breakfast that they have on the weekends. Again, I thought, I need to come here for breakfast sometime! So I convinced my husband to take me and I was FLOORED at how packed the place was! We took a seat at the bar and ordered. I had the shrimp and cheesy grits and was blown away! I've never had grits before, but if I ever do have them again, I don't think they will compare to the Hudson grits!
I truly believe in a great happy hour, over the top customer service, and mouth watering food... and Hudson has it all!
After driving by Hudson for years, I finally went here with my wife. She likes going here after work with her work friend. So we hit it up for breakfast on Saturday morning. We timed it right as far as the crowd goes. Right after we sat down a huge crowd of people came through the door.
The staff was really great there as well. Served us drinks and then took our order after we were ready. I had a coffee brandy drink that was okay, I think the coffee was a little odd tasting. Then I ordered chicken fried steak with a side of their french toast that is deep fried. It was all super good to me! I will be going back to Hudson to get more food there soon!
Fun times, and I'd say 3.5 stars if Yelp would let me! A little vintage Michael Jackson and Barry White to set a sunny brunch mood, a tasty and well-balanced mimosa, and plenty of vegetarian-friendly options make Hudson a worthwhile destination.
We got there a little late so I'm not sure how long the wait actually was, but the place didn't look full even around 11 on a Saturday morning (which is great, because brunch is a meal that, although I love it, I hate waiting for - especially after a 10K). I had the Francesca scramble, a tasty mix of nicely spiced veggie sausage (subbed for regular), bell peppers, a little jalapeño, and some grated Parmesan. Scrambles can be hard to do right, despite the deceptive simplicity; this had a great ration of fixings-to-eggs. Generous serving of pretty standard hash browns on the side along with four pieces of toast made it a plate just a bit too big to conquer (toast went untasted!), and a good deal at around $9. My mimosa was similarly tasty, full of pulpy orange juice goodness and just the right hint of sparkling wine without being watery. At $7.50, it was maybe a bit more than I expected for a brunch mimosa, but no matter!
Cool crowd, tucked away from everywhere, and comfortably informal and friendly, I can see this as a consistent brunch destination (but not for any little or little-ish ones, as it's 21+) and one I'll check out for dinner in the future.
I had a great black bean veggie burger with handcut fries. I loved the layout and the vibe of the place. Their music was awesome! I felt like I was in the 70's haha. I'm sure it's not like that all of the time but I thought it was fitting.
Kind of expensive $10.50 for a veggie burger w/ fries.
My impression at first was a 3.5-ish. At night it's pretty laid-back and chill. I get the Jamaican Ginger cocktail and Squash Tacos:
-Drink: very nice, simple and refreshing.
-Tacos: these were really good and squash is awesome.
The bartender seemed indifferent but pleasant enough. Time to pay and I noticed I have a voicemail from Chase---BUGGERS! My card happened to be compromised recently so it wouldn't work. I end up just paying what cash I have on hand and to told the bartender that I'm going to contact the owner if I can get this sorted out. Later on, Mariam replies to me from the general email contact and right away she seemed very friendly and understanding of my situation. I told them I'd try coming back the following night and pay the rest. She said that's all I'd have to do and thanked me for my honesty. She was super nice. I paid the rest and the bartender__insert above__.
Also, someone's sweet yellow Ducati Sport Classic was parked just outside.... siiiick! :D
I took my mom & dad here for Father's day brunch and we all thought the food was great. The shrimp & grits I had were so tasty. If they had them on the weekday menu instead of just weekend brunch I would become a regular.
My only complaint would be the Bloody Mary. I loved that it came with a beer back, but the drink itself was so strong I only had a couple sips. It looked and tasted like pure seasoning mix. I'll give it another try next time since lots of reviewers mentioned how good it was.
Come here to drink up some courage to face the hordes in Costco!
Love a brunch/lunch at Hudson whenever I'm down in SODO.
As a person with an egg allergy, I genuinely appreciate a brunch menu that offers lots of non-egg choices. Shrimp and grits, chicken fried steak, and biscuits and gravy are all fantastic! Also, if you've never had a patty melt for breakfast, now is your chance. #noregrets Â
Tasty breakfast cocktails such as the MANmosa - are highly recommended.
If you love a good classic diner, roadhouse, or greasy spoon - this place is definitely  the UPGRADE to that.  **pours one out for the Miss Albany Diner **
Not recommended for vegans or dieters, this is a place to come for a calorie splurge, covered in gravy.
Dependability GOODNESS!!!! I have been meaning to write this review for a bit, (I have been several times).
Great FOOD!!! Great SERVICE!!! This place is SOLID!!! Fabulous GROWN UP SPOT!!
My favorites have been the Shrimp & Cheesy Grits, Chicken Fried Steak, Oyster Po'Boys, Mimosas AND EVERYTHINGIHAVETRIEDHASBEENSUPERDELICIOUS!!!
EXHALE!
Morning work breakfast at the Hudson. Classis little joint in the heart of the industrial SODO. Everyone ordered a different omelet including mine, the salmon omelet.
The service was good.
The atmosphere is mellow and relaxed with a nostalgic feeling to it.
Enjoyed the apple cyder as well.
The toast was bad. I dont know why its even offered because there wasnt anything left from the omelet. I highly recommend the salmon omelet. great flavors and a true Seattle delight.
Ill come back.
Come hungry.
SO sad. I took a friend to The Hudson for lunch a few weeks back. I've been debating this update ever since, but finally decided, in case 'someone' who works there reads it, that it might be worth it. We ate at The Hudson weekly there for a few months and it was always so good, service always friendly, helpful and attentive. So I took my friend, and I ordered a toasted sandwich. And it arrived- NOT toasted. I asked ( politely and understandably) why my sandwich was not toasted, and could it please BE toasted, only to have it pretty much snatched away from me and taken back. When they brought me a new sandwich, the bread was toasted all right, BLACK. BURNT. AWFUL. I did not want to further incur the wrath of the angry server again so I just ate the filling. I've not been back since. Â
Sorry, Hudson, this person's reaction cost you a good-tipping regular who brought many people to your establishment. It could have been so easy just to nicely take my sandwich back, acknowledge that it was not toasted, toasted it correctly and be done with it instead of making myself and my friend feel unwelcome, unvalued and uncomfortable.
The Hudson is great, especially if you don't like kids. Because they aren't allowed, ahahahahaha! Take that you little stinky bastards! Relax, I'm kidding. No I'm not. But I am. Not...
I've been here numerous times, mostly when I'm in the need for a get-this-stale-alcohol-taste-out-of-my-mouth recovery brunch. They have great food and drinks (try the Bloody Mary) which have never made me regret going there. The service can be a little slow (not always) but they are so friendly therefore I don't care. Why is everyone in such a hurry anyway? Enjoy the moment, not the future, as I always say. This place has a cool old school vibe, and is very mellow and unpretentious. I will be back many times in the future.
This part of town is all warehouses, industrial brewing operations, and truckers.
The services is, I think, a symptom of everyone just being pleased that someone brought them something to eat and/or drink at all.
In the hour and a half I sat here with friendlies, I would have thought that someone would have checked in occasionally, but no.
Apart from that, this is moderately decent breakfast whatever if it was served in a recently cleaned garage overlooking the scenic local highway.
After an early flight back to Seattle I had only one thing on my mind, Breakfast. The one place that I pass all the time but have never been in the the Hudson, so this was the perfect time. My girlfriend and I walked in to an nearly empty place so we had out pick of seating. I will tell you by the end of our meal the place was packed, so the earlier the better.
I ordered the Biscuits And Gravy, two homemade buttermilk biscuits topped with our homemade country style sausage gravy. The gravy was lighter than most I had and had a good amount of onions in it which I really liked. My girlfriend had the Suffer'n Succtash which is peppery jumble of beans, tofu and veggies served with two eggs, hash browns and toast. Very good as well. Great place and a great atmosphere.
Going enroute to the yelp elite event, this little diner's bright orange and yellow outdoor lighting caught our eyeballs amongst the industrial building around the little place.
inside is cozy with lots of booths and bar seating, but we grabbed seating outdoors to dine.
For such a small out-in-the-middle-of-nowhere kinda place they serve lots of goodies! Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The absolute best part is that they offer creative variety and its all housemade! Butternut squash tacos, veggie fried steak sounded amazing. i settled with some housemade hummus and no-mayo coleslaw which was nicely light and crispy!
Great stop if you want some good grub in an easy going joint!
To establish context, I first came here after an productivity-intense and mixed day at work, on a gorgeous Thursday summer evening as the sun slowly set, to meet up with a couple friends for a low key happy hour thing. For taking the edge off a day like the one I'd had, Hudson delivered admirably. Â
It was easy to locate--just take 99 out of the city and keep going until you see it on your left. Â Once you're there, you'll notice--even if you' hadn't read the other reviews that mention it--that it's located directly adjacent to the morgue, a point of interest if not a point of fascination.
It's not an especially large place, but considering its location that I'd describe as "tucked away from the hustle bustle of already-remote Georgetown," I don't expect it'll be attracting teeming masses any time soon. Â It's more of a place to stop off, perhaps after a busy day at work.
The large windows allowed the natural light to flood in, which was nice during the sunset hour. Â In general, I'm a fan of horseshoe-shaped bars (ever since Cheers was big on TV), in order that I needn't stare at a wall of liquor while enjoying libations and bar food. Â Not that there's anything wrong with a wall of liquor, but there's something about having my back to the rest of an entire room that I find less agreeable than having an open view across a room. Â At the very least, it makes for much easier people watching. Oh, it bears mentioning that the bar stools at Hudson are immensely superior those awful bordering-on-ass-torture devices they call barstools at Smarty Pants, which shares an owner with Hudson.
The bartender on the evening I went was a gregarious fellow, who introduced himself and engaged me in a little chatter once my friends had departed. Â I like this. Â He struck the right balance of friendliness such that if I hadn't wanted to converse, he wouldn't have pressed on, but at the same time he was amenable to the sort of idle chatter that one often engages in with a bartender while rounding off the day. Â Unfortunately, I don't remember his name, except that it was a relatively common name like Chris or Matt or something. Â I suspect the Hudson staff is small enough, though, that if you go there more than once and sit at the bar, you'll encounter him.
Anyway, though. Â The beer selection wasn't especially large, but still featured a couple brews with which I'd theretofore not been familiar. Â I love a large tap selection, but, as a bar or restaurant, if you can offer something I've not tried before, then I'm happy with your tap selection.
The marketing copy claims Hudson's menu is "southern-inspired," whatever this means, exactly. Â I don't know about that, but I don't really care one way or the other. Â I ordered the veggie burger, and I have to say that it was quite satisfying and one of the better veggie burgers I recall having over the last several years, and I'm awarding an extra star for my impression thereof. Â That's as far as I've ventured into the menu, and being a pescetarian, I don't know how much further I'll be able to venture. Â I did find it curious that there was so little overlap with Smarty Pants. Â I guess the two places are spatially local enough that if you really want something like what Smarty Pants offers, you should just go to Smarty Pants, and as such, it's nice that Hudson offers its own distinct menu.
If you like the no-nonsense vibe but are looking for a change of pace from another place whose name I've already mentioned too many times in this review, Hudson is likely worthy of your attention.
I recently read a shitty book that made me want to kill things. This happens fairly often, as I'm an English major and therefore deal with a lot of required reading, but this particular book blew exceptionally hard and my working title for the paper I had to write on it was "[Author's Name] Is A Dick."
Why was it so awful? Because it was written by some pantywaist city-dwelling douchebag from the North who thought he could go live with some sharecroppers in the South for three months, and that would somehow make him an authority on their culture. It reads like poverty porn because his audience was comprised of fellow paintywaist city-dwelling douchebags who needed a liberal cause to discuss over wine and cheese, and because those douchebags didn't know any better and assumed it was an accurate representation, the author made lots of money and assumed he was successful in his endeavor.
I had this book for breakfast the other day.
I used to be a REALLY BIG FAN of Smarty Pants; I went there practically every weekend for brunch with friends until the service started to slip (employee turnover issues) Â and the portions seemed to get smaller as the already somewhat inflated prices remained the same. Â Regardless, I had high hopes for the owner's new place Hudson. Last night I went there with my long-time SP dining companions and now I feel let down twice.
The first thing that bummed us out was the fact that their outdoor seating area is so small and that drinks are not allowed out there. I have to assume that because of its placement and openness to the street outside that this area will never be zoned to allow for booze. That's unfortunate, since the windows for the building mostly face west and this place gets a LOT of sun, yet there are no curtains and the windows don't open - I really hope they have AC.
As for the food, my vegetarian companion had hoped that (like SP) Hudson could substitute Field Roast on the BLAT, but unfortunately they don't actually have Field Roast, just veggie patties that they substitute on the burgers or for the chicken fried steak. Their menu is small, so there aren't a lot of substantial vegi-friendly options - she opted for the grilled cheese. I enjoyed the creamy, crusty mac & cheese and the accompanying side salad, though I don't understand why it's also served with a wedge of dry toasted bread (no butter?). The dish seemed a bit small for $9.75, so I'm going to hope that they use fancy cheese to justify the cost. Our other diner ordered the tuna salad and found it a smidge too sweet for his taste. I am really glad that they do offer fries as a side for their sandwiches - they looked pretty good.
Our server was nice, though at one point I did run out of water for a while. I didn't order any adult beverages but my companions did, so I think the refills for our table slipped her mind for a few minutes. The décor is simple, but welcoming in a sunny way...The seats in the booths were slightly uncomfortable but they are on par with SP and the vibe is slightly preppier, but not entirely unfriendly.
I've heard raves about their breakfast, so hopefully a trip back on a weekend morning will raise my opinion from the current state of "meh, it's okay."
