Don't even think of comparing this to the real Hyderabad House back in Hyderabad. Don't go by the name, this is a fake one.

I was visiting Chicago and was hoping to get some delicious food on Devon and was so disappointed by the quality and taste of the food. How terrible it that to see the same exact gravy for a chicken and vegetarian curry. Long story short, if you are really craving for the Hyderabad House style food please avoid this place.

I normally don't do this to local businesses.  I understand that running a business can be rough.  I really do but this, well, this was something else.

It's as if they were mocking the very idea of Indian food.

Long story short, my fiancee ordered butter chicken.  They must have, instead of "butter chicken" heard "Kraft Macaroni and Cheese cheese powder mixed in equal parts Campbell Tomato Soup and Nacho Cheese."

I understand, those two sound very similar.

The best part was after taking a bite each, laughing about it and then moving on to my order of chicken wings and hot sauce or "Chicken Chili" as they called it, the waiter got around to asking us if we wanted a box for our full bowl of "butter chicken".  When we said that we'd rather not, he first asked if we were from around here and then went on to insist that it was extremely good curry as if that would change our mind.

Well done, Hyderabad.  You are now the new benchmark for terrible.  Thanks for providing that new low for all other place in Chicago to aim for.

I know my desi food yaar, and this place is the ONLY place on Devon that has ever made me ill afterward (and I've been here and been ill as a result more than once). I'm no princess either; living in West Africa and traveling around India will have you eating under "questionable" circumstances at best, which I did gladly and with no subsequent problems. Even on Devon, I've shrugged off seeing a little roach on the wall here or there. However, both my companion and I were not well after this meal. I think the health department temporarily shut this place down a while ago. Maybe they need to do another pop in...

Finally, I found my favorite spot on Devon!

In the past 3 week I've been here 3 times. It takes a lot to get into my  rotation list but the forces were strong with Hyderabad house. Their vegetable dish with okra cast spell upon me. And, then there is the mutton biriyani. Fluffy on top and spicier as you dig deeper into the plate. Heard that people drive all the way from Arlington Heights to just eat their biriyani. Accompany the dish with naans. They are huge, soft, fresh, and buttery. The bill for two is usually under 20 bucks. Not too expensive to be overpriced, not too low to raise suspicion in the quality of their meat. The ambiance is clean and comfortable.

My boyfriend went out to lunch with his sitar teacher and fell so in love with their food that he insisted we go back again the next night for dinner...so we did. We had carry out, lamb marsala and butter chicken with two huge pieces of naan bread all for under $20. It was enough for the boy and I to fill our bellies and have leftovers the next day!

I can't wait to go back!

you know, usually i regard it as a bad sign when i walk into a place and the staff recognizes me.  well, guess what, Hyderabad House?  i don't care that i eat here way too often!  i don't care that you make fun of the fact that i eat there more than i eat at home to my friends.

    why?  because...  you... complete me.

    you do.

this is, without a doubt, my favorite Indian place in all of little India- nay- the entire city of Chicago.

    and the suburbs.

    and the midwest.

I know my Indian food and I am telling you this place is truly a hidden gem.  I have been just about everywhere in the city tryn out Indian restaurants.  It's one of those places where you can't really go wrong with anything.  My top 3 dishes here are: the chicken makhani (butter chicken) , the shish kabob, and chicken biryani.  The funny part is most Indians don't even know about this place.  They also have probably the best tea in the city period.  It is very creamy.  Their secret is that they simmer the milk for 24hrs.  This is a very casual place.  Don't expect stellar customer service, but the food makes up for everything....no exaggerating the best Indian food in the city....and thats a bold statement.
