Just went back to this restaurant recently. We find that the last couple times we went here, the food quality is not the same. So I did a little bit of investigation. I asked one of my coworkers who is from Pakistan. I was told that the restaurant now has a new chef. Boom! this explains the food quality of our recent dining experiences.
IMO, the food from the new chef is not as good as it used to be. The seasonings and marinade seems to be much lighter. I like my food to be tasty, rich and flavorful when it comes to Punjab/Indian food. Unfortunately I am not getting this type of quality from the new chef.
As always, this restaurant offers excellent, attentive service.
Holy cow this place was great. I was visiting Chicago, and because several of my Indian co-workers suggested this place, I knew I HAD to try it. I starved myself for 24 hours so that I could consume an unhealthy amount of Indian food.
My girlfriend and I showed up at around noon, and the place was empty and it seemed like the employees were just showing up. We ordered Chicken Makna, some sort of Lenti-Beef Item that I don't remember the name of, and three pieces of naan. The waiter told us that the two of us would probably not be able to eat 3 pieces of Naan, and told us that two would be more appropriate. Â This turned out to be correct, as each piece of naan here could wrap around my entire head.
Everything was fantastic. The lentil dish looked disgusting, but it was unbelievably delicious. The Chicken Makna was pretty much chicken tikka masala with added tomato... it was also wonderful. If you're only going to go to one Indian restaurant while you're in town, you cannot go wrong with Usmania.
