A couple friends and I stopped by late on a Thursday night for quarter beers and some late night snacks. Â Even though it was busy, we found a table immediately and were promptly served. Â Although my memory is a bit fuzzy, our server was awesome! After informing us that the kitchen was closed for the night, she gave us Hotbox Pizza's phone number and told us that they would deliver right to the front door. Â Throughout the rest of the night we were given a variety of free swag (foam fingers, coozies, etc.) and consumed copious amounts of Miller High Life, which brought the bill for the three of us to well under $10!
Word of the wise: stay off the dance floor... just stay away
Ehhhh what the hell is this place? I ended up here by pure dumb luck because I was hungry and walking around and I've been to Claddagh a hundred times and wanted something different. Unfortunately, I should have stuck with Claddagh. The decor in this place was basically a hodge podge of random crap from the 50's or something. It could have been ok, but it was just drastically overdone.
This all could have been overcome if the food was decent. Unfortunately, not so much. I ordered a cuban sandwich, it was not good at all. The fries were decent, but when the fries are the best thing about a place it's time to find a new place.
Overall, this one was not my type of spot. It seems like a much older crowd meets up here as well, must be something nostalgic about it.
This place is right across the street from the Omni Hotel I am staying at for a few days on a biz trip. I needed to get a quick lunch after checking in and before heading to the convention center. What drew me in was the huge Marilyn Monroe caricature outside the building the restaurant is located in. I love kitschy places so I decided to give it a shot.
Walking in I was like "wow"! This is super kitschy! It's a 50's nostalgia diner. Like Al's from Happy Days. There are signs, memorabilia, pictures, lights, furntiture, and retro throwback stuff from the 50's-80's in every nook and cranny of this place including the ceiling. Doo-wop to classic rock was playing. Even the booth tables are made from old pinball machines! Way cool. They even have a DJ booth and small dance floor with disco lighting. At any minute I expected The Fonz to walk in and go "AYYYYYY"!
I took a booth and looked over the menu that the waitress handed me. It's basically a middle America diner type of menu with many of the selections having funny names and sayings as if trying to be extra cool and cute. Service was ok and attentive enough. I ended up getting a bbq grilled chicken dinner plate that came with a soup and salad for only $12.95 which was passable. A fountain soda with refills was only $1. A decent deal overall and the food was ok.
They have a full bar here with a limited selection of beers on tap that are mainly domestics. On football Sundays they offer a 24 ounce beer special for $3.50. Seems like such a cool looking place with a kitshy nitch atmosphere.
Still, I felt a little weirdness here, as it had a kind of strange older cougar crowd hovering about in the booths and tables around me. Lots of middle aged women near me kept talking about David Beckham and other male athletes and actors and what they would do with them. Out loud. Many of the guys up around the bar were in my dad's age category. And this was all during mid afternoon during lunch hour. I passed by last night and the place was not that busy except for a few older folk as the type I encountered. I guess if you are a cougar on the prowl, or a younger dude who goes for that kind of fun then this place is for you. That, or if you are a chick with daddy issues.
There are so many happening bars and restaurants in the area that it's easy to pass this one by, but it's worth a look if you want to take a glimpse at a bygone era.
Tell them Lenny & Squiggy sent ya!
Ok, this place is no longer a bar (as of 8/12). It is now a 50s style diner. We went here for lunch and despite its being a bit off the beaten path, we were glad we found it. We aren't local but will definitely go back the next time we are in Indy. The waitress was super friendly and helpful. Hubby had a pork tenderloin sandwich. He said it was great, but missing just a little extra something. I had a double bacon cheeseburger- it was huge and delicious. Only place I've ever been where they didn't at least ask how I wanted the burger done. OTOH, it was medium well but not dry at all, so I can't complain too much. Their homemade ranch dressing made both the burger and the fries that much better.
Review Source:Took the advice from a local to check it out, clean place kinda like a mel's dinner with a bar, I am sure on a weekend it is a good place to be but our experience wasn't anything special. The only conference in town chose to go to another bar around the corner which left this place all but empty. Definitely has some character but from my experience I doubt I would go back.
Review Source:I love this place and have been going here for years. The only downfall is how crowded it can get. Patty is my all time favorite bartender. If you want a yummy drink ask for the Patty Special. It is delicious but don't let the yummy taste fool you because it will sneak up on you. Good music and good people watching. I am a fan of watching the older women trying to pickup the younger guys.
Review Source:I love this place wholly and unapologetically. Â It deserves 5 stars because it is what it is. Â I have had so many great times here. Â Pretty much every time I go it's memorable, even if I don't end up remembering it.
Thursday is the best night by far with the .25 beers. Â I like to buy a $5 tray and seats are usually fairly easy to come by. Â I love the dancing and I love the people. Â It is a fun place to watch IU basketball as well!
This bar is always busy on weekends. Â My friends and I usually stop in there for the last stop of the night for some people watching. Â It's usually packed and smokey and everyone is hammered. Â It's affectionatly known as the "cougar bar."
I got thrown out of there once for spilling my buddies drink messin' around. Â They were cool about it and just tossed me. :-)
Was in town Friday night for a family girls weekend & Ike & Jonsey's rocked. Â There was a Colts game going on so was pretty packed. Â They played AWESOME music. Â The place is a bar/restaurant with a smaller dance floor. Â The crowd was a great mix, but mostly older 20's, mid 30's and even up to 60's. Â Everyone got along great and when the dance music started going the dance floor got filled and was a blast. Â The waitress we had was a tad on the rude side and when we asked to split the bill we got a big "SIGH". Â Didn't eat here so can't comment on the food. Â If you want a place with good cold beer & drinks and awesome 80's, 90's music where you can dance, this is your place. Â I'd definitely come back here. Â The one thing I did not like is that you can smoke in the bar. Â Being from Ohio this is not an issue so for us non-smokers this may be a turn off. Â There weren't a ton of people smoking, but there were some. Â Overall a great time was had by all.
Review Source:I have only gone on Thursdays, but I always enjoy myself. It is a great place to go to just hang out with friends. The crowd is mixed with young and old but all share one thing: the need to have a fun time! We usually get there early when there is no cover but I believe it is only $5 after that. On Thursdays you can pay .25 for a cup of draft or $5 for a tray of beer(also in cups, lol) People love to dance here where the music is a mixture of mostly 80's and 90's fare They also have like .50 tacos which I find to be quite satisfying for two quarters. The only drawback is that space is limited and this place is usually packed by 9pm. Nonetheless, invite your friends, get there early and be prepared for a night of laughter and beer swilling without the sometimes unexpected commotion you experience in many night establishments.
Review Source:As other reviewers have noted, Ike's is usually packed on the weekends (and Thursdays when they have quarter beers), but if you can handle the crowd, it's worth it. They play a fun mix of 80's, 90's and new music and it's a great place to go dance. And if you don't feel like dancing, you can try your luck at finding a seat at the bar or one of their booths or tables. If you find one, hold onto it for dear life!
The people who go to Ike's are a pretty wide mix - you'll find lots of college kids there on Thursdays for the aforementioned cheap beer specials, and a mix of younger and older people on the weekends. But everyone ends up dancing together and it's a good time. Keep an eye out for the bald man who balances beers on his head - it is fun to watch!
Ike's also serves lunch and dinner. If you work downtown and aren't sure what you want for lunch, you can follow them on Twitter (@ikeandjonesys). They usually post their lunch specials and they always sound pretty good, but since I work in Fishers I've never been able to confirm that.
We headed into Ike & Jonesy's on Friday night after having dinner downtown. Â It was about 10pm or so. Â Man, that was a bad idea! Â The place was packed to the gills with people.
We paid a $5 cover and couldn't find a place to sit or really even stand. Â After one drink we ended up leaving.
I guess it being busy says something about the place, and the folks there appeared to be having a good time. Â The music was definitely fun... but I just don't love crowds like that anymore.
