So after a dissapointing dinner at a sushi restaurant the previous day, needed to get some good old fashion bbq in my belly.  I tried Dave's last week so I wanted to try Jim N' Nick's this week to see how it compares.  Sat at the bar, and Erica was working. Gotta say that she was extremely nice and really working her area to make sure that everyone was getting good service.  Looks like she had been there for awhile since she seemed to know a lot of her regular customers.  So for dinner I had the combo, got st louis ribs, pulled pork, brisket, collard greens, and mac and cheese.  Best part of the meal was the ribs and the cheddar corn bread biscuts.  Ribs were supper tender  and fall of the bone good.  Went well with the habanero bbq sauce.  The collard greens were good too since they also add brisket to it.  Wasnt a fan of the mac an cheese.  I thought Dave's had a much better one.  The pulled pork and brisket were ok too but really needed the extra sauce.   I did like the fact that on Tuesdays they had taco special and $2 mexican beers.  Overall a nice meal, cant wait to eat the leftovers for lunch today.
Review Source:Awesome place, with great people/service, and fantastic food. Â They claim everything is fresh, with not a freezer in the house. Â The food sure did taste like it was. Â The service was great, with a real emphasis on hospitality. Â Was a very pleasurable experience, and would highly recommend!
Review Source:First visit to Jim and Nick's and I must say it won't be the last! Our waitress Tera was very outgoing and pleasant....brought our Arnold Palmers and cheddar cheese muffins out right away. Our BBQ quesadilla was a little slow in coming, but it was well worth it! I ordered the pulled pork platter with cole slaw and beans and the hubs got the full rack of Baby Backs (huge portion) with beans and mac and cheese. Lots of smoke flavor in both dishes, slaw was tasty and baked beans were divine! The ribs were fall of the bone and very moist. Mac was ok, cheese kinda stuck together, but tasty nonetheless. Love love love the muffins!!! The Palmers were awesome too!! No room for dessert, but maybe next time! Very impressed with Tera, she did a mighty fine job and we hope that the next time we go, we get seated in her area again! Overall, we enjoyed Jim and Nick's BBQ and highly recommend this establishment!
Review Source:First time in Denver and first time at Jim n Nick's , Blake the server is super friendly and provided excellent customer service. He explained everything on the menu for us and when it came time to place our orders, he didn't even write it down. After we finished placing our orders, he showed us his tab that he had already written down our orders that he had written before! He already knew what we wanted! That's how well he knows his customers!
Review Source:Stopped here for lunch, while we were in Denver. Great food.
Enjoyed the cheddar cheese biscuits that they bring to the table.
Riblet were juicy and favorful. Brisket was cooked to perfection, and pulled pork was moist and tasty.
If we lived closer this would be one of our favorite stops for BBQ.
Staff was terrific. We had Tazarye as a waitress and she was very attentive and could not have been better at her job.
Best BBQ sauce in town!!!
...they have the best complimentary sweet corn muffins in town (if you mix it with butter is to die for), they have the best pico de gallo ever for some reason better than any mexican place out there (please try their pico de gallo!!! it's awesome!!!), best spare ribs (never ever dry), best bbq ranch salad dressing ever (this dressing is amazing), they also have the best pulled pork..always cooked to perfection, they have the best potato salad, the best baked potatoes, the best bbq quesadilla appetizer, the best onion rings.
The very best of the very best of this place relies on the items above....please try all of those. I love this place. I think i've eaten here around 20 times already.
The best of the three major national BBQ chains (the others being Famous Dave's and Dickey's).
They claim to make everything fresh every day. Â I have no way of knowing this for certain but is does taste like it. Â The food has always been been solid. Â Neither excellent nor bad, just middlin'.
I have been to this location twice now and have no real complaints. Â This particular location has a nice bar set up that makes the bar look like a roadside BBQ juke joint.
If you are looking for something light to fill the stomach without being too heavy, I would recommend the sandwiches (brisket or pulled pork).
Had the double pulled pork sandwich with the mac cheese as a side order. The mac and cheese was terrible but the pulled pork was great. The service was ridiculously fast. They also give you these awesome muffin things with your order. I ate so much that i could feel my stomach ripping.
Review Source:I have been to this restaurant many times. Â It is true southern food and it is outstanding. Â Depending on the day, Jim-n-Nicks is either the best or 2nd best BBQ in Colorado (sharing BBQ dominance with Bono's).
The sweet tea is a good place to start. Â The lemonade is also very good.
I like the pork very much. I sometimes will order the double decker sandwich that has both pork and beef brisket. Â I recently tried the turkey and also found it to be very good. Â The ribs are usually very good. Â I think the sausage at Bono's is better than Jim-n-Nicks.
The cheese corn bread/muffins are outstanding. Â I like the mashed potatoes with the brown gravy. Â The fries are also very good.
I am not crazy about their bbq sauces (that would be the only negative thing I can say about them).
My wife likes the fried chicken and also recently had the club sandwich and it was excellent. Â My mother in law enjoys the southern salad. Â It is a fine salad. Â Very generous size on that salad. Â There is really nice variety on the menu to satisfy bbq lovers but also non-bbq lovers as well.
The pies are delicious. Â My favorite is the lemon ice box pie, but they always seem to run out of it (everything is fresh here, no freezers; so if they only make 3 or 4 lemon pies a day, they might be gone if you show up after 4pm).
One of the things that I like about Jim-n-Nicks is the consistency. I find that some bbq places are very inconsistent (Bennett's in Arvada being the most inconsistent in the Denver area; sometimes the pork at Bennetts is an A, sometimes it is a flat out F). Certain BBQ meats can easily be ruined so having a pitmaster who knows what he is doing and employing quality control measures is essential to good BBQ. I would say that 8 out of 10 visits to Jim-N-Nicks is an A to A+. On a 'bad' day for them, you are not going to get worse than B+ quality. An 'off' day at Jim-N-Nicks is still better than 95 out of 100 other places.
The service is always top notch. The atmosphere is very good. Â I love the Alabama National Championship banner in the restaurant (roll tide!). Â If you want to experience the cuisine from the Heart of Dixie in Denver, this is the place.
The location is convenient. Right near the Bass Pro Shops. Â They also have a location in Southlands/Aurora.
I have lived all over and traveled throughout the southeast and have experienced bbq from the best joints in USA. I also have my own smoker and like to smoke bbq myself, so good bbq is a passion for me. This stacks up with the best places in the US. Bono's is the only place that might be able to rival Jim-n-Nick's for best BBQ in Colorado.
I've been here a few times and each time the food was delicious but the place is really crowded and the seating arrangements are terrible, too small and too crowded together.
The staff we encountered was not very friendly and not helpful. They never asked if we needed refills on our drinks or if our food was to our satisfaction. It also took a very long time for them to even take our order, and then even longer for them to bring us our food.
The food is yummy, but if you're in a hurry or you don't like people crowding you when you're trying to eat, than this isn't the place for you.
I am not a barbecue fan but visited this restaurant because it was picked by our guests. The place was noisy and lively with rustic decor (dark wood paneling and floor with booths) as I expected.
I ordered Smoked Turkey Breast with two sides (baked beans and cinnamon apples). The turkey was flavorful but the two sides are just ordinary. The muffins were sweet and were generously provided just as soon as they were gone. I can live without those muffins, though.
Overall, food was good with expected flavor and taste.
We hung at the bar with a very nice bartender who made exceptional lemon drop martinis and gave great beer recommendations. We had the riblet appetizer --- the only thing my boyfriend will get --- and I have to say, they were freaking great. Juicy, tender, delicious.
A good happy hour joint for cocktails and apps --- if you go, get the riblets!
Came in with a colleague for a late lunch. Â We were promptly greeted and seated. Â Our server was great! Â Very friendly and attentive and kept bringing us the cheesy corn muffins which are so tasty!
We each got a salad with the BBQ meat on top. Â I got the brisket and my colleague got the pulled pork. Â They were a little skimpy on the meat in my opinion but it tasted good.
I would definitely come back.
The food here is pretty tasty, their sauce is spicy and sweet (kind of like me!) and they offer quite a few selections of entrees and sides.
I went with two friends a couple of nights ago, and they had half price bottles of wine as their special. Â Not bad.
Our server didn't really seem too interested in our table and before we were even done with some of our plates, he would remove them from the table, which I thought was weird, but maybe he was just ready to get home.
It's in a convenient location, near the Improv, so it's been a good go-to place for getting some dinner prior to a show.
We usually hit the Southlands location as it is close to home but stop here on occasion when we are out and about. LOVE their chicken fried chicken. They only "advertise" it on Sundays as it is their special of the day but ask them any day of the week and they will be happy to make it for you. Their side salads have a great flavor with the real bacon and their ranch dressing is very good as well. Have had their bbq meats as well as their ribs. Not a fan of the ribs but I'm picky about my ribs. All their meats have good flavor but as is typical with any bbq joint, they make an amount for the day and when they run out, they can't easily cook some up for you because smoking meats takes time so the later you go, the less items they will have for ya FYI.
Good food, good service, no complaints.
One thing I admire about Jim 'N Nick's is that they make all of their stuff every day from scratch. And they say they mean everything with this statement, from the BBQ meats or dressings to the various sides.
Another thing I admire is that the "bread" they bring you to start is cornbread muffins. I like muffins and I like cornbread so this is a win-win for me.
Nick and I stopped into Jim 'N Nick's pre-movie at the Harkins and they had us in and out in a very reasonable time. We were able to sit at one of the taller booths close to the bar and I really liked it because it was a booth for two, but it was tall like a bar table and roomy (more like a booth for 1 1/2 people on each side.) For my dinner I chose something called "Pig in the Potato Patch" which is a baked potato topped with bacon, butter, sour cream, scallions, cheddar, BBQ sauce, and your choice of pulled pork, beef brisket, pulled chicken, or smoked turkey. I was able to get all the toppings on the side so I could make the potato the way I wanted and it was pretty good. They do serve this in two sizes, regular or entree, and when I asked what the difference was the response was simply the size. My regular size potato was definitely big enough so I can't imagine how big the entree size is.
Our server was super pleasant which was great. And they have Southern sweet tea. Delicious! So, in an area where chains rein supreme I'd likely come back to Jim 'N Nick's for pre-movie dinner again.
An overall good experience had a  fun waiter and waitress.  My food was exceptionally good,  which was the the riblets and fries, my son had the cat fish and that was was cooked to perfection and tasted outstanding. My wife some what enjoyed one of those really big potatoes with pulled pork.  She said the pulled pork was delicious but the potato was to dry and needed more butter and sour cream.
I still have a thing about the BBQ sauce here in Colorado, there is to much tomato sauce or something that they use that really makes the sauce undesirable. I will have to bottle my own recipe and sell it here.  As for  those little corn bread muffins with the cheese; really tasty and they kept putting baskets of it on our table!
Overall, I would give it one more shot and try another dish, I thought it was pretty good!!!!!!
We have enjoyed Jim n Nicks in the past, but the experience today left much to be desired. Â
I ordered a half rack of ribs, and when they arrived, it was more like jerky than ribs - very, very dry. Â To their credit, they did bring me another half rack which was much better, but they should have never served the first one - it was almost like they were trying to get rid of it and hoping the person who got them would not complain.
After the lackluster service and jerky being passed of as ribs, we won't be back - there are much better rib places in town.
I'd actually give 3.5 stars if I could.
The corn muffins are good, but be sure to ask for the honey butter--you don't get the honey butter if you don't know to ask. Â
I like that they have sweet tea, and I like that the food I had was tasty and that the servers are friendly.
I've tried the baby back ribs, which were good, but not really moist. Â Their habanero BBQ sauce is good. Â I wouldn't have liked the ribs nearly as much without that sauce. Â
The mac-n-cheese is pretty good and so are the mashed potatoes. Â
I also tried the chicken fried chicken steak (their special of the day) with white gravy and that was good too. Â
I haven't tried any desserts, but need to do that, and maybe the desserts would bump the rating up. Â I'm a big fan of pie. Â Next time I'll order the pig in a potato patch (pulled pork on top of a baked potato (or mashed potatoes) with bacon, cheese, and sour cream) and a piece of pie. Â There will be a next time because one of my friends is a big fan of this place, of the baby back ribs in particular.
Place is clean, service was ok, food - left much to be desired. Â
The rolls are delicious and the potato salad is awesome. Â Not enough to get me to go back though. Â I ordered a half rack of baby back ribs - they did not fall off the bone, they were not moist, I think they were almost burnt and hard and lacking of flavor and everything I was craving... Â
I wouldn't go back.
Let me start by saying that the food is WONDERFUL!! The reson why I give it 2 stars is because of the HORRIBLE service!
Me and my husband arrived at 2 pm and when we walked in the hostess seems burdend by us. She was not very friendly and looked annoyed.
Once we were seated...it took the waitress about 10 minutes to come over to our table for the first time! We ordered our drinks and and appetizer. I stated that we are ready to order but if she wanted to go get our drinks and appetizer first that was ok because she didnt write it down. She said "no its ok. I can take both :)" When she was done she asked if we would like some cheese muffins. THOSE ARE AMAZING!!!!
Shortly after we received the muffins our lunch arrived. The waitress came over 10 minutes after we started eating to see if everything was ok. She completely forgot about the appetizer and took her 5 minutes to refill our drinks...never said anything about it but on the plus side we werent charged for it. She was a complete moron and super slow. Everyone there just seemed very unpleasant.
I never do this because I am in the service industry but i could not  let myself give her more than a 10% tip she was that horrible. I do want to see if there are other Jim n' Nicks BBQ because the food is great. What they need to do i fire the waitstaff and rehire people that are at least friendly and dont mind waiting on people . If there was one closer i would order take out so i did not have endure such crappy service.
Go for the food just dont expect ANYTHING from the service!!!
Ok 5 stars for a chain restaurant is not something that I would typically administer but this place truly deserves it. We've become somewhat frequent diners here and each time we've been lucky enough to have one of two servers. They're always friendly and remember who we are which I like. The food is always fresh and hot and quickly brought to our table. The vinaigrette is truly one of the best ones I've ever eaten and I always make my own and wish I could replicate this one!
Glad that there is a place near by that is delicious, reasonably priced and always has good service. Yea!
I recommend excepting the Cheddar Corn Muffins to start - they were warm and great!
Had a house salad - by the way every house salad should be served with crispy bacon. Very good.
Decided to have their barbecue chicken (white meat) with potato salad and cole slaw. The chicken was so juicy and tender I could have had four more of those. The cole slaw and potato salad were fantastic - tasted so home made.
Reasonable prices, great service, and yummy barbecue. I will definitely be back to try some more of their yummy menu! Give this place a shot.
Was here with Hubs for dinner Friday July 22nd 2011. Â YES, its SO CALL the Weekend MAD DINNER RUSH, but since this is close where we live and I just want to get my "eating list" done, to Jim N Nick's Bar-B-Q we went. Â We arrived at this establishment like about 19:00hrs.
We have to wait about 10 to 15 minutes to be seated since this establishment is indeed jam packed with all the diners alike. Â Is this a good sign? Â Perhaps so, but we bet to differ.
We managed to get a booth seat since that is what Hubs like to have his dinner at this kind of establishment when possible. Â Our sever is KYLE. Â He took our orders but the wait for our food feels like ETERNITY. Â Perhaps the kitchen is backed up since its SO CALL THE WEEKEND EVE, but I guess they loose, a paying couple customer here for future outings.
Our server kept assuring us, that our order is coming yet I felt it was such a let down.
Anyhoo, these were what we ordered that evening :
Hubs order :
* Â The Burger 1920 ($8.99) Â This burger comes with two patties, melted American cheese, thinly sliced onions, pickles and mustard.
* Â The Way South Patty Melt ($6.99). Â Hubs opt for Sourdough and half fries ($1.99).
* Â Soda ($2.29)
My order of 3 Taco Basket ($7.47) and Onion Rings ($3.99). Â The 3 Taco Basket, I opt for was with Chicken, Beef Brisket and Catfish.
Our order arrived like 19:54hrs. Â Hubs order was The Burger 1920 and Way South Patty Melt. Â Mine came like 1 minute after that. Â When I ate my first bite of Taco, man, its WAY cold... I dont want to make a fuss since I was starving, just ate what I had order. Â Hubs told me the Burger 1920 was A-OK, NOT WOW with it, the fries that came with the order was "MAJORLY MEH" and the Way South Patty Melt was a LETDOWN.
Total cost of our dinner that evening was $34.29 with tax.
At least the onion rings to my opinion and taste bud came piping hot. Â All in all, a dining experience in which I want to forget. Â DISSAPOINTED with a CAPITAL D.
SLLLOOWWW Service. Â You could almost go to a movie and back at Harkins and not miss your meal. Â It took a half hour for a table of 7 to just get sandwiches. Â Sandwiches, not ribs or grilled chicken...just sandwiches that is pork in a smoker, a few pickles, some sauce and a toasted bun. Â Terrible kitchen!
The cup of queso was more like a mini ramekin. I think they gave me a sampler and called it a cup or bowl...regardless, it was a sampler, with about 12 chips. Â
The muffins came out 25 minutes into service...REALLY? Â How slow can you be?
The mac and cheese was pretty dreadful. Â The BBQ sauce was good but too little too late, the coffin was sealed.
The bathroom were semi clean aside from the flies around the toilets. Â I also had a fly attacking our table for half the meal. Â That says a lot about the kitchen. Â
I would stay clear of this place and wait for it to go under.
Cheddar corn muffins to start - yummy!
I got the 1/4 bbq chicken with dark meat. Â The chicken was so tender it just fell off the bone. Â Got it wtih two sides: Â creamed spinach and macaroni and cheese. Â Portion size was perfect. Â I had room for dessert - their special that day was coconut cream meringue pie and that was a slice of pie heaven.
Price for two came out to $15 each, not including tip. Â For a salad, unlimited cheddar corn muffins, main course, two sides, dessert and a bottle of beer, I think that's a great deal! Â good food at a good price.
It was not very busy and we waited for quite a while until our waiter came over. Â He got our drinks and tried to dart away as we were asking him if we could order our food (we had already had plenty of time to look at the menu and decide). Â We then waited again for the corn bread... Â It came out and then the food came out right after. Â We ordered the $17 Pit Master's Plate which came with small spare ribs and your choice of three other meats. Â We chose the hot links, pulled pork, and beef brisket (which cost 1$ extra) and two sides. Â The pulled pork and beef brisket portions were tiny- especially for an $18 meal. Â We expressed our unhappiness with the portion size to our waiter and he returned with another small portion of beef brisket. Â Everything was cooked well just didn't have much of a smoky, BBQ taste. Â The BBQ sauce was very necessary.
Slow service and unimpressive food.
Yelp reminder... 3-stars = A-OK , which for BBQ is "aw-rite" in my Kindle... or as we used to say, "book."
On a biz trip, and staying close by the hotel, I opted for chain restaurant BBQ. So was I disappointed? No. Was I impressed? No. Was I full when I left? Definitely. This place is part of just under 30 restaurant units, so I figured whatever great aspirations for everlasting great BBQ the founders had, it was probably replaced by financial success. (nothing wrong with that if I'm the owner!)
My combo platter included a short rack of the baby backs (3 small still connected ribs), pulled pork, brisket and turkey. My two sides of choice were the creamed spinach and mac 'n cheese. The meats, as my yelp friend Rick S. also found, lacked the smoke-ring-flavor that we all look for in BBQ. The sides were alright, but the creamed spinach was a bit overpowering in a garlic way. While I was told by my server that the Mac n Cheese side was great... after eating it, I mentally substituted OK. It was not served hot and creamy, so "great" was only usable if you were maybe in their kitchen, and able to taste that side before it sat and got served hours later?
So... as "Q" goes...... everything was acceptable, but not remarkable. In my humble, and limited to one visit opinion, I'd only do this place if you need a quick "junkie-Q fix."
We stopped for some BBQ after renewing my fishing license at Bass Pro Shop. Â Thinking we should get some dinner, Jim 'N Nick's just happen to be on the corner and caught our eyes.
We were not sure if this was a chain restaurant or not, since we couldn't tell and never heard of it, we were intrigued. Â For a Friday at 6:00pm, we were seated right away. Â Our server Jeremiah was a wonderful server. Â He was not stuffy at all, he did an excellent job on refills, wet naps and checking in. Â He didn't nag us over and over asking if we needed anything, he just showed up, dropped off what was needed with out asking.
Our food was wonderful. Â My girlfriend ordered the Pulled Pork with Creamed Spinach and a side salad. Â She loved it. Â I ordered the 1/2 Rack Spare Ribs with Collard Greens and Mac'N'Cheese. Â I enjoy finding good Collard Greens, they did a great version with large chunks of smoked pork. Â The cheesy cornbread muffins were wonderful along with the creamy sweet butter complimentary. Â My rib order was large. Â I might not have needed to step up the size from the Baby Back Ribs, but I thought, why not. Â The meat was well cooked and had a wonderful flavor.
That BBQ flavor battle between KC style, Texas style and Southern style is always something I think in my head while eating. Â I use to live in Savannah, Georgia and tried as much BBQ as I could. Â I do like the sweeter styles and think every place is unique in their own way. Â Jim 'N Nick do their style very very well. Â Not sure exactly where to place them as far as a style, but they are Southern in my book.
The food itself was great as I described. Â We always have fun trying the BBQ sauces, tasting the different flavors. Â Jim 'N Nick's have their own two sauces which were Original and Habanero. Â Both good, but we wrote down on our recommendation card to have an in-between flavor.
We really enjoyed our meals and left full and satisfied.
Hell Yeah another BBQ joint close to my Hood! Man was I excited to try this place out, we went the first week it was open and have tried it 2 times since then. Unfortunately I have to say there wont be a third unless I have a major BBQ Jones and this the only place open! Or someone else is paying because free food always tastes better!
This place was busy, we got out standard issue vibrating lighted hockey puck! And waited for it to do its thing! Much to the enjoyment of my youngest daughter it started going all jackpot on us and we were shown our seats. The kiddies got their kids menus, and middle child (Twinkie cause she looks just like me, I know scary!) was all upset because there wasn't a kids basket of ribs.
Here is the best part of the place, while waiting for a waitress or waiter or anyone for that matter that worked there to acknowledge our existence. The hostess brought by some fresh baked cheddar cornbread muffin things! Damn those are good!
Finally a waitress shows up obviously shes in the weeds cause she has rubber boots on and gardening gloves! She states "let me get your drinks first then I will take your order" well my control issues reared its ugly head and I wouldn't have anyone telling me how things are going down. So I started ordering up our meals, that confused her, for a moment I don't think she knew where she was (must of been the gardening gloves!) I apologize and state that we are ready to place or order so can we consolidate this experience and hopefully speed up the process!
She notices Twinkie isn't the happiest with her Chicken tender meal she ordered, and ask did you not find anything you like. I told her that she wanted a kids rib meal and Jim n Nicks doesn't offer one and that normally we go to Famous Dave's and that's what she orders there! Well this must of fired up the BBQ competitive juices because next thing you know we have a fresh basket of muffins and my daughter gets her Kids BBQ Rib basket. We also get a visit from the Regional MGR in town over seeing that everything is smooth. I told him we normally go to Famous Daves but we decided to give the new kid on the block a shot.
He proceeds to rip into Famous D's about not smoking their meat etc. and that they aren't BBQ, well from my vantage they taste better because I had Jim N Nicks ribs and I would order Famous D's any day of the week over them!
One a positive not the kiddies chickens tenders were pretty good, except Twinkie was mad because honestly she felt the same way about her ribs as me just not that good, And her sisters had a better meal!
The number one thing that Jim 'n Nick's has going for it is the fact that they make so much of their own stuff on the premises. I am a fan of fresh food!! To me, it makes a big difference and bumps it up a notch. Having to wait for those cheddary mini-muffin things is worth it since I know they're literally coming out of the oven.
Number 2: I also very much enjoy the 90 Shilling they have on tap.
Third, ask for your pulled pork sandwich "Memphis Style" to get some mighty tasty cole slaw on top. Extra yummy.
Disappointments include: hit-or-miss service, and a very limited pie selection: lemon, pecan, coconut cream, and chocolate (although I can personally recommend the chocolate).
They are the best option in Northfield, so long as you avoid the mad dinner rush and hit them at a calmer time.
