Close to work and if you are nice to the staff you will find your sandwich doused in mayonnaise!  It is Hellmans, which is NOT my favorite!  You know what though, a good 4 oz of that (equal mayo to meat ratio) and I am a happy customer.  They also sometimes have day old bread that I can bring back to work and dip in my reserve mayo.

So today was the second time I have been to this Jimmy John's and they were out of bread... yes, thats right - a sandwich shop that runs out of bread durring lunch time....    Sure they assured us that they were baking more - as customers were walking out the door... but come on.  isn't 95% of their buisness in the loop from weekday lunchtime customers?  How do they even stay in business?   I watched probably a half dozen customers be turned away...

File this one in the " they just don't know how to do business" bucket...

I know there is nothing "special" about the Jimmy John's sandwiches, but they are always fresh and fast and that is a lot to ask for in the Loop.  I love this location because the people are really friendly and know what I am talking about when I say I want the "California" (I am terrible about remembering the names of things)  I don't think $5 for a sandwich that I like is a lot of money - I am more put off by the crappy ones at WolfGang Puck's cafeteria at the Graham School that masquerade as "gourmet" and are atrocious and cost $7.

I don't know why people like Jimmy John's so much. The sandwiches are fresh, but there is nothing special about the taste, at all. They taste exactly like what you might make at home with decent meat, cheese and bread. They are overpriced for what they are. JJ's charges you fiddy cents for hot peppers, even when they give you about a nickel's worth of them. They don't cut your sub in half unless you ask. Unless you ask otherwise, they dump a boatload of mayonnaise on their sandwiches. I mean, I like mayo, but at JJ's I usually ask for none.

Bottom line, the best thing about Jimmy John's is the speed. Otherwise, meh.
