This restaurant was definitely a little more formal than I first imagined. Â The ambiance and service were nice. Â The cheese plate was plentiful and good. Â I ordered the pork chops which came with a wonderful sauce and fresh thin green beans. Â The baked potato was good. Â My date had the steak oscar which he enjoyed. Â Service is also good. Â We will definitely return.
Review Source:My wife and I have eaten here two times and have had two fairly different experiences. Had we only had the first experience I would have given this 5 stars. The second time though was slightly different so will comment from both experiences.
Both times were actually our anniversary and we wanted to go somewhere we wouldn't normally go all of the time to enjoy it over a nice meal.
Frankly the first time couldn't have been better. The food was delicious, the staff was helpful and courteous suggesting several things on the menu that we did try and did enjoy. The food came out in a timely fashion, was hot, and as already mentioned, it tasted delicious. (King Crab... market price, but ohh so very good)
The second visit a year later however was not as great. The waitress we had this time was very preoccupied and we just never clicked with her. The food was still good, but we left with the feeling that we had just paid for a lot more than we had received. I don't know how to describe it, but I am certain it was more a lack of customer service skills on the waitresses behalf that made the evening less than the year before.
You can find  menu items sub $22, but a good majority of the more enjoyable items are going to run you somewhere in the neighborhood of $25.00 + a meal. (at least that's how my taste run) You won't be turned away if you show up in t-shirt and shorts, but you're going to likely feel a bit out of place. The attire is more in line with at least nice jeans and polo shirt on up to business casual. You'll likely even find some suits from some of the local corporations enjoying a lunch or after work hours dinner there too.
This place has the perfect night cap: the Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale + a slice of their Pecan Pie.
Seriously. If you get nothing else here, get one or both of the above items.
I was here a few weeks ago and had an EXCELLENT filet mignon special. The normal menu has a smaller and larger portion available, they had no issue providing me the filet special in the smaller size for a discounted price.
The only thing is, this place is kinda pricey. While it is very good, the prices of steak rival some of the nicer steakhouses in trendy Atlanta neighborhoods. John Phillips is in a Kentucky strip mall. The prices could be probably 20% cheaper.
Overall I have had great experiences here, but then again I'm not the one footing the bill!
