Jolly's is okay.
Food: Nothing stellar but it's solid bar food to munch on while hanging with friends. Â We enjoyed some Chesapeake fries with crab. Â Burger was okay but a little overcooked. Â Fish taco was good.
Service: Fine. Friendly.
Show: I thought "dueling pianos" would mean 2 pianists in a duet, that's not the case. Â It's one pianist at a time. Â The pianist was competent at singing and playing -- not great. Â His performance consisted mostly of songs filled with cheesy sexual innuendos. Some girl would get singled out to go on stage and be serenaded with yet another cheesy song full of double entendres. That might've been entertaining for a couple songs, but it got really old after a while. Â It was LOUD during the show, which made it difficult to chat with friends. Â I would have preferred some more straight songs, performed well -- some good solid music -- but unfortunately, the show was more about quantity of sexual puns than quality of music.
If you are looking for something random and awesome to do on a weekend night and don't mind bachelorette parties....this is the place for you.
The reservation system is a little wonky, I tried to put in a reservation for a table of 2 but it seems they don't really work that way. Â As a dueling piano bar novice I didn't realize that tables are for legit parties greater than 2, the bar is fair game, and stand where there's space.
My friend and I got to the bar around 7:30pm on a Saturday night and were thankful that we didn't have to pay the cover. Â We were more than willing to sit around, munch, and drink until 9 when everything started. Â There were 3 pianists that took turns on two pianos throughout the night. Â Basically, the way this works is you give them cash and they will play any song (try not to be a dick and make things too obscure, but they will look up the sheet music) and if they can't find your song, they will let you pick another song. Â They also have a word of the day that you can change and the price goes up on that as the night goes on. Â
MAKE SURE YOU BRING CASH! Â DON'T BE A DICK AND SIT AROUND AND NOT GIVE THESE DUDES ANYTHING. Â They're artists and really great at what they do and they deserve your dollars.
We ordered a few appetizers throughout the night and everything was hot and delicious. Â They have a decent draft list, though be wary because I don't think they put the prices on the menu (man, I really hate that.)
Over the course of the night about 5 bachelorette parties came in and the dueling pianos handled it wonderfully and hilariously....even when one drunken bride to be was up on the piano being all sorts of a hot mess. Â
This place is awesome and I highly suggest it, it's an experience to be sure.
I went to Jolly's with college friends and coworkers on Saturday night. The environment was great. A little crowded but that was not even a concern because EVERYONE was having a great time. Casey helped us out with amazing service. If you need some help with beer, ask for Casey. Come here for good times, good music, and great memories.
Review Source:I came out here randomly to meet up with some friends that were visiting the area. Probably the best decision I ever made on a Thursday night. Although quiet and mostly empty for a weekday night.. the staff was amusing and the pianist was the man. I daresay that I fell in love with him by the end of the night ;oP
Great beer options and DELICIOUS Chesapeake fries. I definitely recommend checking this place out if you are looking for a fun night.
I LOVE DUELING PIANO BARS. Â Wasn't here for long enough to really compare to others, as this place was a stop along the way during a game with girlfriends of "Drink Your Way to the Bar." Â Okay I'm lying, this wasn't exactly "along the way" as we deliberately took a cab here from McGillans, but it was well worth the stop. Â With high ceilings and big windows, this place has a great open layout and view of the pianists from all angles. Â They played fun tunes (although took too many breaks, in my opinion, but I guess I'm a tough critic). Â Drinks were priced as you'd expect and there was a pretty good crowd. Â Not too packed, but full enough that you didn't feel bad for the musicians. Â Every city needs a Dueling Piano Bar, and I was excited to discover Jolly's during my night out in Philly.
Review Source:A solid happy hour spot. Â The selections are somewhat limited (happy hour prices only apply to the house wine, a rotating selection of 2 or so beers, and Stoli vodka), but it's hard to argue with the $3 price tag. Â Bonus points for being able to accommodate a large group without a reservation.
Also notable on the drinks list: a wide selection of beer, plus about a dozen sweet, girly cocktails that are clearly designed for the undergrad and bachelorette party set. Â The "Bride to Be," for example, features raspberry vodka, Chambord, and Sprite. Â "You'll like it. Â It's sweet."
Sometimes service is good, sometimes you need to flag down your server (more than once) for things like water or drink refills. Â With more reliable service, this would be a four-star place. Â But there isn't. Â So it's not.
I'm told the piano dueling starts at 9.
Was looking for something different to do for my 23rd birthday. Didn't want your typical night of debauchery in Atlantic City, or a night at any old bar. Jolly's definitely hit the spot.
My boyfriend worked with the staff to arrange our reservations, package and table. We got a great table right by the pianists, and started our celebration right away.
As the night progressed, the crowd got younger and bigger! Both very good things! Not to big where you felt claustrophobic, and not too young where patrons were vomiting all over the bathrooms - winning!
The energy in the place was great, drinks were good, and I loved the location; very easy to get to for this Jersey Girl.
I would recommend this place to anyone, and I will definitely have to try the food next time I go.
FOOD IS BALLER.
We foremost recommend: The Chesapeake Fries with lump crab meat... a half basket is plenty; The Farmhouse Sandwich also known as the Amazing, for good reason; Bacon Black and Bleu burger skimps on nothing; Change out your fries on any burger or sandwich for Awesome Fries, nbd; Quesadilla bites, which are too much for me and not even a little boring :)
Went there on a whim with another couple Saturday night--it books up well in advance so don't expect to get a table. Â But they were nice enough to get us some chairs for this side table area, near the pianos so we had our own space and could sit.
The piano players were great! Â Not as good as in New Orleans--but def. had personality. Â They took tons of requests--even ones not on the list -- and made changed up the words, personalized them for you, for a good laugh. Â
The bar had some local beers on draft that I hadn't ever tried so that was exciting. Â Got the buffalo chicken dip--it was pretty good though a bit runny. Â They said the kitchen was "backed up," but I thought the food came out quite quick. Â
Parking was super easy--meters only run til 8pm unlike in Center City!
All in all, I'd definitely go back, but I'd make a reservation well in advance so I had a table. Â
Also, don't recommend if you're looking to do a lot of talking because it's loud and more about the music than anything else!
Rocking good time! Â You can't lose with any of the various fry-mix-jawns, and the dueling pianos are fantastic about getting people up out of their seats and involved. Â Awesome for parties and big groups. Â Inexpensive drinks and friendly staff help make this place feel like family.
Review Source:I recently had my birthday party at Jolly's and it was honestly the perfect place for it. The space is just the right size and the dueling pianos add something different, making it that much more fun. My friends and I had a great time requesting our favorite songs all night. We ordered some appetizers off the menu as well, the buffalo chicken dip and spinach dip were both delicious. They also have some excellent beers on tap that you can't get many other places in the city. Overall it was a good time and I would highly recommend having an event there or even just going for dinner and a few drinks.
Review Source:Amazing little place with a great atmosphere, awesome food, and a great casual or formal party vibe. Â Has one of the best happy hours I've ever seen (basically everything is $3 and all the appetizers are half off), and it last until 8 which is great if you want to go home and shower before going out to get a drink (maybe too practical on my end, but it works! Â I love it) Their cocktails are really yummy too! Â I'm partial to the Stoli Punch. Â We also ordered food there, which was super delicious. Â My friend ordered the Chesapeake fries which looked amazing- totally smothered with crab meat-and I got the quesadilla bites, which came with homemade guacamole. Â So good! Â I totally recommend this place for anybody looking to chill out after work or hang out with friends any day of the week!
Review Source:this place was great! every had a jolly good time :)
service was friendly but a bit slow because there were only 2 bartenders for the big crowd. the happy hour is really great, those coke and baccardi pitchers are amazing. they aren't quite pitchers, but basically like two drinks. but only at 6 dollars! i have the bleu cheese burger, and it was like really good! like a restaurant style burger. we all had burgers in my group and were very surprised at how yummy it was. i had it with fries, and those were also good (they were like shorter potato fries).
we were there for a long time. i can't remember who the guy playing the piano was, but he was great. he needed to turn up the mike when ppl were singing, we couldn't hear them at all - but maybe that was for a reason! :)
later on in the night (I think we were there for 4 hrs), we could hear the thumping base of the place next door, it got REALLY loud.
it was weird because the bathroom doors are propped open a bit.... you will see what i mean if its like that all the time.
i would totally go back. the 1/2 price happy hour apps are a great deal!!!
Blast! Â Friday happy hour was fantastic! Â Great specials - best around. Â Food was a lot better than I expected. Â Burger was cooked perfect and I loved the gerkin touch on top.... Â My group ended up staying for the piano show and had a great time. Â At 10PM there must have been 100 people in here and only 10 guys. Â Stayed way too long. Â Bad hangover on Saturday. Â Will definitely be back.
Review Source:I did a little happy hour at Jolly's last week with a couple of colleagues.
They have some nice beers on tap. The happy hour prices are good, but typically don't apply to all the beers on tap. The night I went it only applied to the two local beers. However, different nights offer different happy hour specials. I was happy with the two local beers.
They also had 1/2 price apps and 35 cents wings. I had some buffalo wings and Thai wings. Both were very tasty.
I also had some Awesome. That's right, they have an app called Awesome. Why, because it's Awesome. I had no idea what I was getting when I ordered it, but did just because it was called Awesome. The menu had this as the description: Pecan smoked bacon, housemade ranch, shredded cheese. They left out one very key detail. It's French Fries topped with the aforementioned description. Well, maybe if I cocked my head up a little and realized it was the 3rd item listed under a larger header that is titled "Basket of House Cut Fries." But seriously, a few beers later and who wants to look that far up?
But anyway, the Happy Hour was good. The food was good. The Awesome was awesome. And they have some nice beers.
PROS: Live piano, large portions, tasty fish tacos
CONS: Crappy service, long waits
The food was okay --- slightly above average bar fare that took 30 minutes to get to us. Â The appetizer and main entrees came together. Our water was never refilled. The waitress almost completely ignored us and forgot to bring the condiments we asked for. The piano was fun but got boring after a while.
I effin love this place! The piano guys are so talented they can cover literally ANYTHING and they're all about getting the crowd involved which if your a total ham like me you will adore. Not to mention the food and service is top notch especially the burgers nomzzzz. Also the bartenders have an amazing drink menu which will have you feeling like you are the x factor.
Review Source:I went here on a Monday evening, so I wasn't able to see the dueling pianos. But I was able to taste the food. I had the Devil Burger, which was cooked perfectly. The Chesapeake Bay Fries were awesome with lump crab meat. Side salad tasted very fresh.
The service was great. Asked if I had any questions about the beer list, made specials clear to me, and offered samples of any beer I wanted.
This place is pretty awesome. I hope to go back for dinner again soon!
