solid cantonese food. most of the staff here migrated to chi cafe years ago. they basically have the same menu and quality. good cantonese, but i'd rather hit up chi nowadays.

Went here late last night with some friends. Bad food.

My friend asked the waiter for a good chicken dish, and the waiter suggested the General Tsao's chicken. That was weird to me but whatever we went with it.

We also had the combination fried rice and some bubble teas. Combo fried rice was just bad. You expect to at least sorta kinda enjoy any friend rice but this set a new low.

Bubble teas were nothing to write home about. Much better bubble tea at Joy Yee's.

The General Tsao's chicken tasted like fried chicken slathered in maple syrup. Very very bad.

If' you are going to chinatown, go to Lao Sze Chuan or Lao Beijing. Avoid this place.

The food here is pretty good for the most part. I use to come here a lot before, but this was my first time back here in almost a year. This place remodeled a while back and it still looks fairly nice inside. Our server was okay, but could have been better. He wasn't as attentive as he could have been and sometimes we would have to get his attention even though it wasn't too busy.

All the food that we tried here is pretty good. My favorite dish is the Sizzling Beef Tenderloin in Black Pepper Sauce. I have always ordered this dish here because they make it the best, but the size of this has noticeably gone down. Other things to try are Japanese Tofu with Watercress or King Mushroom, and Fish Fillet in Spicy Thai Sauce or Sweet Saki. The drinks here are pretty good. My favorite drink is the Green Apple Green Tea.

I wish this place has a lunch special or happy hour during lunch. They use to have this before they remodeled, but when I went back I didn't see this anywhere on the menu. It used to be on their wall and they have a few variety to choose from. That is why I find myself going to Chi Cafe or St. Alps because they have happy hours there for lunch.

Ken Kee is definitely one of my favorite Chinese restaurant in Chinatown.  The place served delicious Cantonese Style cookings.  I always recommend ordering the Fish Fillet with Sake Souce, Japanese King Mushroom, Beef Short Ribs and Smelt Fish.

The portion for every dish is just the right amount, perfect for eating as a group none more than 6 people I'd say.  Located right in the middle of Chinatown square.

It is definitely one of the restaurant to visit in Chicago's Chinatown.

This is one of the hip type places to go to.  The food is served on nice plates and the presentation is nice.  The food isnt bad either, about average and not quite as pricey, which explains why the place is almost always full.  The fried pork chops was very good as was the beef dishes.

My favorite restaurant in China town. The sweet Saki fish is a must every time we go and we usually order two as everyone wants more. Shrimp were as big as a whale (almost). Like this place, but the servers really need to get  better English skills.

One of the best Chinese restaurants in Chinatown!

Its a semi-annual tradition at my workplace to go to Chinatown and stuff ourselves as a group. My generous Professor always pays for us and being a grad student I'm grateful! This time, we have a new member on our team who is originally from China , who is a self-confessed food-aholic. He's so popular that when anyone on our floor is in Chinatown, they give him a ring to get his suggestion.

On this occasion, he insisted that we try this place. And boy was it a treat!! The space is small but neatly maintained. Their menu like most Chinese places is as thick as a novel. And my colleague took over the ordering task, and got the table rice porridges, prawn , octopus, cat fish, beef and pork dishes... I sheepishly looked at him and asked if he had taken my dietary restriction into account and ordered something vegetarian. He nodded and right then the waiter brought out fried Japanese tofu with a chili seasoning and an assortment of veggies and mushrooms in a starchy sauce.. YUM!! This is definitely my kind of joint in Chinatown and can't wait to go back with the husband.

Ken Kee is one of my favorite new places to eat at in Chinatown! Sure, there are  probably cheaper options out there, but the food was oh so delicious!!

My mom and brother were in town and wanted to grab a light dinner so we decided to try out Ken Kee - it did not disappoint! The place was pretty packed when we arrived, but luckily we came right when a table was finished.

    Here's what we got:

    FRIED PORK CHOPS
This is one of those dishes that's pretty standard in Chinatown, but Ken Kee's were some of the best I've had. They were hot, juicy and so good! The spiciness from the chili peppers gave it an extra kick.

    SALT AND PEPPER SMELT
I don't know why it took me so long to discover this dish!! It's probably because I'm so desensitized from heads and tails, but boy am I glad we ordered this dish! They were hot and salty -- almost like eating french fries, but so much better! Definitely a MUST!

BABY CLAMS IN BLACK BEAN SAUCE
I LOVE Ken Kee's clam dish. The sauce was hearty, rich and the clams were plump and tasted super fresh compared to other places. Can't wait to get this again. NOM.

The portions are pretty generous and we had leftovers to take home. I'll definitely be back!

Chinese sausage, fatty bacon, and lotus root was a definite winner.  If you're going to take the grease bath, do it with this kind of panache!  The on-choy with jalapeños in a bean paste sauce was light, nuanced, and addictive in a way I never though a pile of biomass could be.  The sliced pork and hacked chicken rice dish wasn't the least bit exciting, but the other two dishes apologized for it.

The service wasn't great but it wasn't terrible, either.  Prices, however, were excellent.

We used to go here all the time since 2001, but for the last two years, every time I go there, bad service and mediocre food just keep piling up.  Last time I went  just my gf, the place was half full so we picked a big table, they said it is only for big party. I look around and the place was not even pack or anything so we listened. I told them that we were going to get a lot food. We ordered about 7 dishes and they did not even have a place to put all the food on. Halfway eating, they decided to move us....

Another time, two months ago, we ordered two smoothies to go. They brought out two water down smoothies with some flavor in it. We just left it there and the waiter asked us if we wanted it. my gf said heck no. Taste so terrible. Not even frozen or cold.

How can I give this place a zero star?

We eat at other place now.

Very rarely do I ever give a score this low. And I have been here twice! So with that said, I can't be too kind with the review. I'll stick to this last visit. The partner wanted to come by for soup (ummm I only go to Seven Treasures for soup), but we came anyway.

I didn't want soup! I ordered white rice with chicken and barbecue pork on top, a fruit menagerie in bowl and a Tsintao beer. Well, waiter decides to come ten minutes into taking order and say, "oh we giving you extra pork due to chicken all gone". Ummmm what? Its not that late.

Well I am so not a complainer, I kept it. But it was so bland! First off I was in the mood for chicken on rice, not "extra" strips of pork! Mind you, "extra" I guess meant 3 extra thinly sliced strips! The fruit came out, it looked boring while a fly made his way to the top of the fruit, I mean he literally just landed! Needless to say, by then I was turned off and didn't complain, what would that do for me? It's not like I complain like others to get freebies. I work for a living and do not do hand outs!

The Tsintao beer also was flat! Are you freakin' kidding me? Enough!

We decided to leave and I just vowed that was my second time and that was way too many times for me!

The place is WAY TOO SMALL to accomodate big parties and it seems it can get very crowded, I guess they are all first timers!

Moral of the story: it's a Cute place but I am not paying for decor!

The taunt of crispy, Chinese salt and pepper fish on a sleepy Sunday afternoon was all I that I needed to unlaze from my beaten down low-rise sofa.

So this dish of succulent tenders is also a favorite of mine at Lao Shanghai just down the sidewalk from Ken Kee, but my friend also invited our neighbors to have dim sum on what must've been one of the prettiest Chicago autumn days in recent memory.

Let it be clear that my friend's mom cooks the best Catonese style Chinese food I've had, so I pretty much follow their lead when ordering. But strangely this time, a puffy, wonderful, canned biscuit type fried pastry dough came to the table in a pool of condensed milk sauce. Sexy!

We thoroughly enjoyed the tofu casserole over dark greens and though I didn't partake, the rest of the table was "meh" about the sweet and sour chicken. It appeared Americanized again in a 5 lb bag of cane sugar goop that prolly makes the hardest concubine owner shed tears.

It'd been a few years since I've eaten there and it's great that the food is even better than the tasty vittles I remember from the first time. Ken Kee does not baptize their fried rice in vats of soy sauce goop like many other restaurants that cater to warped American expectations and bastardizations of Chinese cuisine.

As with many other restaurants in Chicago's Chinatown Square, Ken Kee has received a nice makeover and is all posh with wall sculptures and art for the busy cafe it is. What hadn't changed is the somewhat slow and confusing service, which resulted in us initially being charged for a dish of black bean garlic clams that never made it to the table.

I spent nine years of my childhood growing up in Hong Kong, three years in Taiwan, and four in Singapore. I now live in Chicago, and I'm always looking for good Chinese food. Ken Kee is BY FAR the best Cantonese / Hong Kong food I've had in all of Chicago. The food here reminds me of yesteryear (y'know, like that scene in Ratatouille?). If you're looking for something authentic, this is the place to go.

Need some recommendations on what to order? Get their Chow Mein. No, it's not what you're picturing (whether you're from Hong Kong or America...we call it something different in Hong Kong). But any of their Chow Mein dishes are awesome. It's a warm hot sauce (choose your meat and green) poured over a deep fried bed of crispy noodles. As the sauce soaks through, it seeps into the noodles in all the right ways. You've got to try it. Need more specifics? Try the Cantonese Combination Chow Mein just to get you started.

Since I live close to Chinatown, I hardly ever go to eat there. However, if I'm ever there for a sit down meal, Ken Kee would be the only place I would go. Everyone goes to Chi Cafe late at night for drunk food, but if Ken Kee were open, I'd rather go here.

The food is good because it's where the locals eat. Plus, they redid the interior and now it looks more modern and sophisticated.

As soon as we set foot in the Chinatown business district, it was overwhelming finding the right Chinese restaurant. We checked out three Chinese restaurants. Ken Kee gave the best first impression.

The menu featured a large selection of dishes, including a few that I never heard of before. The fact that many of the dishes were illustrated with photographs, was advantageous in ordering. I ordered hot tea, a bowl of wonton soup, shrimp and pork egg roll, and shrimp in egg sauce with noodles. Just like every Chinese restaurant that I have dined in, the hot tea was first-rate. The wonton soup, which came in a large portion was also first-rate. Ditto for the pork and shrimp roll. The shrimp with egg sauce and noodles was good. It tasted similar to shrimp with lobster sauce. The major difference is that it was served over noodles that looked more similar to alfredo noodles than chow mein noodles. Ken Kee is generous with their portions. Even the pork and shrimp roll was large. I came in hungry and had to leave over a good amount of the entree. Also, they have standard silverware in addition to chop stix.

My first impression was that the restaurant is clean. This was also a factor in choosing Ken Kee over the other restaurants we looked at.

The service met my expectations. Our waiter was on the ball with the tea and water refills.

There were a couple of flaws. A couple minutes passed from when the waiter served the soup to the entree. The restaurant was uncomfortably hot, to the point that I was looking forward to fresh air.

Based on my experience, it is overwhelming for somebody visiting Chinatown to find a good  Chinese restaurant. Hopefully this review is helpful in making that decision.

Came here during the Chinatown Summer fair for a late lunch. The place is extremely small and we had a group of 7. I advise you to come on off hours if you have a large group.

The service was typical chinatown - you have to flag a waitress down to ask for something since they're always on the move. We got a few dishes all to share and it was pretty cheap split evenly! The bubble tea is better here than Joyees as well.

There was a tofu dish we got that was so good but I don't remember the name.

One of the restaurants we stopped at on our visit to Chinatown, and we enjoyed it.  I took a chance and ordered Dace Fish Balls & Watercress in a mini wok.  The explanation was fish cut into shapes, or maybe pressed together into a ball shape.  That was a much better explanation than my imagination.  The real interesting part for me was being served with a wok at my table.  Awesome.  It was under constant heat from a tin can of sterno (like you use when camping).  The only thing I did not care for in the fish soup was the strips of octupus, which I did not know would be mixed in there.  It was a tough texture, and I cannot stand to think of those little suction cups, so I carefully found them (fished them out) and set aside any octupus.  My wife ordered the sweet and sour chicken, and we actually were able to share our portions, including the rice, because it was served similar to family style.

My reason for three stars instead of four was because of the slow service, and abrupt explanations from the waitress.  We ate during lunch on a Saturday and it was a full room of people, but my wife tells me that is no excuse.  And I agree.  Overall we enjoyed the food and looking at the upscale interior decorations.  In fact we will probably return to Ken Kee on our next visit to Chinatown.

I had a decent dinner here on a highly anticipated visit to Chinatown.  The selection is huge, and almost overwhelming, but they do have pictures to accompany every item which helps.  I asked for my dish sipcy and unfortunately it wasn't and was pretty bland; however, I tried some friends' dishes which were very good. Prices are very reasonable. I would agree that the service is slow and we would have ordered drinks with dinner had we been offered them, but never saw a drink menu or was asked.  I'd probably try another restaurant if I were back in town.

It was good but I was really disappointed. I probably had my expectations too high, thinking this place could match some of the congee places I've been to in China, but it just didn't. The food wasn't spectacular and the service was kind of slow. It's been checked off my Chicago Chinatown restaurant list and not going on my return list.

Came to Chicago for a visit with the fam.  I had the spicy beef with jalepeño, AWESOME!

Mom had the kung pao chicken, pretty tasty.  The crab rangoon was excellent.   The smoothies were just perfect- mom had the pineapple, my nephew had the strawberry, both without tapioca.  Service was great.

We were a party of 8, and it was Saturday @ 1pm, so yes, we waited for a while, they had no problem letting us take up 2 tables, rather than waiting for something to open up to fit our party.  Food came out very quickly and correct, free hot tea at the table.

Just a horrible experience . I will not be returning . You have let me down Yelp.

I could not drink the tea because of the dirty cup and teapot . I did not ask for another because it just grossed me out completely .

The wanton soup broth was cold . Cold cold . Tasty wantons though .

I had the chicken and bbq pork over rice . It concerned me that the chicken portion was cold as well .I asked a server about it and she rudely replied that it's supposed to be served that way . Ok ...my bad,  But it would be nice to have that on the menu and for the asshole of a server to treat me like an idiot . The eye roll almost pushed me over the limit .

Even though the tea and soup were disappointing , I did not complain . It's the fact that a server wouldn't answer my one question without attitude that got me .

They may indeed have some tasty eats , but I will never know because I am never stepping foot in here again . There are many other more desirable places steps away .
The service is nonexistent . I am currently writing this review while waiting for my friggin check . If I wasn't afraid of a criminal record I would just leave . That and punch the eye rolling server square in the face.

Ordered spicy smelt fish with seafood congee. It was a great combination since the fish is already super salty. It's not that hot, so I added chili oil to my congee.

Service is a little slow... For example, when you need to order and when you need the check. The food and tea came out quickly though.

Price with tip and tax... $11.

I really appreciate going to Ken Kee. It's always a rewarding experience and here are the main reasons why:
    1) the food is excellent. Even the simpler dishes like Congee taste really fresh, with well balanced flavors
    2) the service is excellent and friendly. Sorry to say but the smiley friendly staff puts this restaurant way ahead of most of their competition in Chinatown where rude waiters remain a bit of the norm.
    3) the menu is extensive so everyone will find something to their liking
    4) the price to quality ratio is excellent. You can enjoy outstanding traditional dishes without breaking the bank.
    5) the place is clean including the bathroom

I have loved Ken Kee's since highschool but would frequent the Chinatown hot spot while I was in college at UIC.

They've undergone a big renovation because the once drab run of the mill Chinatown restaurant now has swanky interior inside! They raised the prices a little bit and made portions smaller to match. That bit was quite disappointing to me and for that huge deal they lose a star.

On my most recent visit, I got the sweet & sour chicken. I have a hard time ordering anything else here because it's just so unique and fantastic here. I need to order it to go next time and actually try something new. The sweet & sour chicken has held up to the test of time and is still every bit as amazing as it was those millions of times I got it in college. Their sauce isn't overly unique but it does have small teak I can't put my finger on that differentiates it from the standard Chinatown sweet & sour sauce. The chicken is what makes this dish. It's not the huge, dry pieces you'll often find which makes me wonder if these are the crap parts of the chicken...especially since on my last visit there was a big piece of cartilage that ended up in my mouth...but overall, YUM!

I recommend trying Ken Kee, but keep in mind Chinatown is full of diamonds in the rough places. The rough - the service and the decor. The diamond - the food and the prices.

With one exception, we had a good meal here in this renovated place.  We sat upstairs in the small dining room there (5 tables), and you have enter it from the outside 2nd floor walkway, after checking in downstairs.  This place is popular and with good reason.  Good quality at good prices.  Our party had:

    - clam soup
    - dace fish ball soup
    - sweet sake fish filet
    - duck tongues with chives
    - beef in chili oil
    - on choy

All of the dishes were tasty, and nicely done.  Exception was a long hair in the beef dish that the wife discovered.  I knocked the review back a star for this, and the dish was returned and cancelled (server was very apologetic and embarrassed).  We replaced it with a pork/beef chow mein dish.  Oh well, those things happen, and I've had it happen to me once as well.   The total on the food plus two drinks was $69 pre-tip.  We'll probably still be back, as this place is still a strong pick amongst its competition.

I came here for dinner. My friends and I ordered:
    1) Japanese Sake Fried Fish (yummy!)
    2) Goose intestine with special beef (it was okay)
    3) Fried buns (meh)
    4) Stir fried hollow green veggies
    5) Half of their special chicken (not too good)

I believe there was a time when Ken Kee was practically the only restaurant open during late nights in Chinatown. But not anymore. There are so many restaurants along the plaza (of new Chinatown) that are open til' the wee hours of the night, Ken Kee really ain't something special anymore.

Having said that, the reason I'm giving it a three-star instead of two-star is because of the delicious Japanese Sake Fried Fish. If you haven't tried this scrumptious, sweet dish, then you're missing out -  majorly

Looking for late night chinese fix? Ken Kee did it for me. They're open til 12:30am/1am on the weekends.

There's nothing better than late night chinatown food adventures -- I usually just head to Triple Crown since they're open til 3am but I thought I'd try out something new this time! This place did not disappoint. We got the baby clams in black bean sauce, the spicy hong kong style salt n pepper calamari as well as the chicken with ginger/onion. This is the kind of stuff that reminds me of my childhood (esp the chicken + ginger/onion) KICK ass. 3 of these is definitely enough for two. I wanted to get the salt + pepper crab but they were out! sad times.

Service is alright, nothing to complain about. They did forget our water + lemon that we asked for. And I wanted fountain coke instead of a can of coke ...but its not their fault that thats what I wanted. haha.

For 3 dishes + lychee smoothie and a coke, it totaled to $16/person for two. Not bad. Might've been cheaper somewhere else but I was completely satisfied with my meal so I didn't feel guilty spending it. I'll be back!

I give this place a 3 star because it is a bit pricey and not as clean as a restaurant should be.  However, they did remodel the restaurant about half a year ago and since then, the decor seems a lot better than before, but nevertheless, its not as clean with respect to unwanted insects running around here and there.

Food is good though.  I get my fix here for some chinese food.
Service can be better, but they weren't rude though.  Some servers, one female in particular, can be a bit terse when it comes to describing a dish.  I guess to keep it short, she wasn't very helpful.

The only reason this place is getting two stars instead of one is because the crab rangoons were truly delectable.  Crisp, creamy, and crabby, just how I love them.

Everything else was hugely disappointing.  My boyfriend and I came here after a day at the auto show.  We were tired and hungry, and eager for some authentic Chinese deliciousness!  I ordered the Beef Chop Suey and my man ordered Chicken with Bitter Melon in a Black Bean Sauce,  The rice that came along was overcooked and mushy.

Chop Suey- bland, slightly overcooked, and on the small side.

Chicken with Bitter Melon- UNEDIBLE. Maybe this is some delicacy that is an acquired taste or something, I have no idea. Neither me or my boyfriend are picky eaters, but this was just absolutely terrible.  He ordered something he'd never heard of because we both like to try new things...but seriously this was a huge mistake.

The service was bad too.  After being seated, quickly making our choices and closing our menus, we waited more than ten minutes before anyone came to take our order.  Not once were our empty water glasses or teapot filled, and no one checked in with us throughout our meal at all.

I'm not impressed, and I won't be going back.

Small little Chinese restaurant with amazing noodle soup dishes and bubble drinks! I ordered the lychee bubble drink and had the bbq duck noodles. My friends had the hot and sour soup with chicken and a salad. Everything looked delicious to see and eat.

Delicious, succulent, and freshly made. This is a new favorite restaurant. We really loved seeing the noodle master doing his thing by the front window while we were dining at our table nearby -- great view! :) The noodle making technique is a true culinary art.

Met friends here for dinner on a Saturday night after the Chicago Auto Show. Hard to figure out the way in if you're coming from the parking lot side. Imagine that the parking lot side is the rear of the building, and you need to get inside the two-sided strip mall "avenue" to access this and other establishments in this area. Once you're in it smells delish and it's a cozy restaurant! Portions are big, so you may want to take home leftovers to enjoy another day.

We couldn't stop looking at a nearby table because they ordered a hot pot and they were dipping seafood and veggies. We will be getting that next time! That's a party in a pot--to use the words of my friend.

It took a while to get separate checks, but the staff is uber helpful and really nice.

I must be back if I'm in the neighborhood!

Went here with my little family for our new years eve celebration.

SO had a vegetarian dish, -he prefers lao schezuan-

I had butter fish in sweet saki sauce; delicous. the skin was perfectly fried, meat flaky and delicate, sauce is sweet, salty without being too sweet or too salty.

girls had orange chicken & devoured it- i tried and it was very good, i used to eat only orange chicken for years and this is the best I've had.

Another trip for myself and 3 yr old yesterday- she gets her orange chicken again & i decide to try something new: calamari in thousand island sauce. I love calamari & know how the texture is when you cook it right... this did not taste right to me. if you like rubbery, fried, too sweet sauce, please by all means get this dish. i chewed up 3 pieces before i couldn't eat any more.

I also got the mango lychee smoothie- delicious, i believe I would have enjoyed it more if my dinner wasn't so sweet.

When I looked around other patrons dishes, i saw an awful lot of soups so I think I'll go for that next.

also love the shrimp wontons. it's pretty much just wonton dough wrapped in a piece of shrimp, deep fried. the red sauce is sweet and tasty, what i love most is how well the pineapple pieces go with the wontons.

I think Ken Kee has declined these few years. Food is just bland or just doesn't taste good anymore.

Our last carryout order from them:

Beef Briskets with Steamed Rice Noodle Roll - Wasn't very flavorful
Chicken Congee - Chicken wasn't fully cooked so had to boil it.
    Deep-Fried Dough Fritters
Chicken Wings in Sweet Sake Sauce - This was the best dish.
Pork Chop with Spicy Salt & Pepper - Not much spicy or flavor.
Pepper Chicken in Black Bean Sauce on Fried Rice Noodles - I use to order this a lot, but it's eh.

Just too many other good restaurants to go too.

It's in the mall so you know it's authentic.  This is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants when I'm near Chinatown.  They remodeled a couple of months ago.  More contemporary now.  I liked the old place too though.  Nothing fancy here just good food.

    Try this:
    Sweet Saki Fish
Spicy Fried Calamari Hong Kong Style
Rice Noodle w/ Beef and Soy Sauce
Fish Fillets in Sweet and Spicy Thai Sauce.

    Best hangover joint in town.

When you feel like you are a slow moving, non-educated mass after a night of drink, then you come to Chinatown. You'll get some hot tea, congee, garlic tips and wonton and soon you'll be feeling like a million-bucks. Plus, the price is definitely right here and the visual stimulation of chinatown reawakens one!

My friend Sage J. and I  were in China town the other day and stopped in here for a late lunch. They were super busy, but we did not have to wait long to get a seat.
Looks like they have updated their look, so the place looks pretty decent.
I've never had Japanese Tofu with watercress, so I ended up ordering it. It was pretty good.
I like, how the menu has colored pictures, so anyone can see what they are ordering.
I would  certainly eat here again. Service was superb, and the food came out fast.

this is my favorite restaurant whenever I came to Chicago, especially when I arrived late at night, they're one of the few good restaurants that's still open. Since Chicago is always known for its windchill, I always love to eat some hot soup entrees when I'm visiting and in this particular restaurant, I love their Wonton noodle soup. Reminded me of how they served this in HongKong.

Last Friday, I happened to also ordered a few more dishes
    - Chinese broccoli with garlic: not so good, too greasy (originally I was gonna order On Choy with Shrimp paste and Jalapeno but they're out).
    - Salt & Pepper Smelt Fish: I loved this dish, pretty generous amount as well
    - Salt & Pepper Tofu: I liked it but I wish they use firm tofu that don't break easily.

Service was always good, I came here a lot of times before and still the same year after year. They have plenty of things in the menu and so far, none of the food was disappointing to me.

I love you Ken Kee. Really, I do. I am sorry baby for cheating on you with other places in Chinatown. The others don't compare.

I am going to do something different. I am going to tell you what I usually get and break it down for you and the reasons why I fell in love with this place.

    1. Hong Kong Style Fried Calamari with fried garlic. These are delicious and chewy, but not too chewy that you would need the jaws of life to eat. Its perfectly golden with bits of fried garlic and spices. Its good to eat in combination with the items below.

    2. Watercress in a garlic sauce. A refreshing garlicky vegetable that is so de-lish!!! I usually put some of that white pepper, soy sauce, and the red siracha sauce drizzled on top of it and eat it with some white rice. FLAME!!!!!!!

    3. Thousand island pork chops. Braised pork chops with a sweet and spicy/tangy sauce perfectly cooked and great with everything above and some white rice.

    4. to wash it all down get the peach iced tea with tapioca.

Trust me. Would I stray you away and make you get something disgusting? No.

This place has various flavors of fruit freezes and much more but that how I usually "do the do".

The menu has pictures for easy point and order convenience. The service it a bit touch and go but the deliciousness of the food makes up for it. The prices are inexpensive due to larger portions and for that, I am thankful.

If you crave Chinese, give this place a try and what I suggested. Also, if you are ever in my neighborhood and need a Ken Kee friend, I am here for you buddy.

While the images on the extensive menu were helpful, the sheer length of the menu and some of the unusual (at least to me) dishes still made the ordering experience a bit daunting.  Luckily, the menu photos didn't do the actual food justice.  Each of the dishes brought to my table looked and smelled great, and I got a large portion for the money.  I ordered the Japanese tofu and mushrooms based on other glowing Yelp reviews, and it was a good choice.

Although I won't be rushing back here because there are so many other restaurants in Chinatown I want to try, I would certainly be happy to come back again sometime. I can see why this restaurant was completely full with locals on a Tuesday night.

I am so upset! This was one of my favorite places to eat in Chicago and they went and ruined it last night! So here's what happened...

Service was seriously horrible. I mean it's never really been that great but it was sooo bad! We were completely ignored and had to flag someone down for the check and then had to flag him down again to ask for our food to be boxed. Of course they boxed my entree with no rice so I took the rest of the rice out the bowl and poured it in the box. That's when I saw it. There was some type of INSECT stuck in the rice.

I was very upset especially since I had just finished eating the food. So, once I again I had to flag someone down. When I showed it to him the clump of rice with the bug in it he dropped it on the ground and didn't even bother to pick it up! Then he says well we won't charge you for the rice. I look at the bill and there is no extra charge for rice anywhere on it. He tells me that the rice is 50 cents. I was like so I find a bug in my food and you are going to deduct 50 cents???

So I lean over and pick up the rice and bug off the floor and ask to speak with a manager. The manager comes over and after I explain it to her she says that she will give me some more rice. I looked at her like she was crazy. I am not interested in anymore rice especially when I know it's all cooked in one big pot! I informed her that we were not interested in anymore food from them. She's looking at me and I'm looking at her. Still nothing. So I finally hold up the rice/bug and say "this is nasty". (I'm not sure if she knew that or not. So she says she'll take off 10 percent. WOW.

KEN KEE: If having a bug in your food is that nonchalant to you then my friends and I definitely won't be returning.
