My friends and I came in on Friday.  It was the first time I had gone there for dinner, and not for drinks and partying.  I was a bit leary after reading the reviews, but boy were they wrong.  The food was great, the service was great, I had the Lobster Mac which came very highly recommended by our server Corty.  He was the greatest, and very knowledgable about the restaurant and even invited us back for half off wine on Tuesdays....Who knew.  I give this place all five stars.  For a great experience, this is the place to go!

Liked the nautical theme and the multilevel space. Definitely feels ship-like as you climb up and up into the Kerryman. I also thought the beer menu was pretty solid offering your typical bar offerings with a few things to appeal to a craft beer snob like myself. A beer menu like that is appealing because I can bring my friends who want something that they've seen a commercial for and I can order something that I've talked to the guy who brews it. Different strokes for different folks. I was not a fan of the bartender who couldn't figure out her soda gun and sprayed us twice. C'mon! Kerryman isn't a place that I'd seek out but wouldn't complain if someone else dragged me here.

The Kerryman has always been a great spot to me, especially when I lived right up Chicago a few blocks away-- they have a great St. Patrick's Day crowd and an excellent Irish Cheddar Burger.. but apparently their hiring isn't up to par with their cooking.

The server I had last week was one of the worst. Omero (the server) was basically mute, only repeating things we already stated.  He didn't even greet us, just walked up to the table and asked what we wanted.  He was quiet, (in a loud bar during dinner) walked up and down the hallway throwing server books in the air and catching them, unsuccessfully, as well as being overall unfriendly.  I'm not sure what their training or hiring is like, but this server was not anyone I would have picked to be in any type of customer service position. NO INTERPERSONAL SKILLS.

Very disappointed in the service, the food runners and bussers were much more accommodating and friendly than Omero.

Check out Kerryman for the food and atmosphere but if this experience was any testament to their service quality, don't expect much more than the minimum.

Best chicken fingers I've ever had...  good burgers....

We went for Sunday brunch and we've had it delivered... the service at the pub itself was only ok.  Slow.  The waiter was clearly hungover and got our order wrong.  But whatever, everyone has a bad day.  With our delivery, the food was kind of mushy, but still edible.

Our group did not want to pay for $100 2012 NYE tickets so we opted for Kerryman instead. It was a mere $20 cover charge.

We arrived at 10:30pm and waited in line for what seemed forever. The line barely budged and for a minute, we thought we had to do the countdown out on the streets. Our wait took approximately 30 minutes.

Kerryman is a very standard Irish pub. Staff members were courteous and the environment was clean despite it being NYE. Coat check could easily fill up but no worries because there are a line of coat racks along the wall on the second floor. You will just have to worry about the coat mysteriously disappearing after having left it unattended for hours. Fortunately, that did not happen to any of us!

Drinks are average price. My friend ordered a round with two Irish car bombs and long island iced teas. That came to a total of $40. In other words, each drink was approximately $10.

Last but not least, here's a definite plus: Kerryman is only two blocks away from Rock n Roll McDonald's!

I've been here a few times before but had yet to try their food (liquid diet) only drinks. Went on a random Weds night with a couple of friends. Ordered wings, the portabella sandwich, chicken pot pie and the curry. All yum! Great wings some of the best I've had there was a party in my tummy, so yummy! They also had $3 drafts can't beat that. Loved the decor and the atmosphere. Our server was attentive and had an accent. Irish maybe? Good time and will be going back to try other items on the menu.

The Murger is one of the most juicy and delicious burgers I've had in my lifetime. Pretzel bun, pork belly, cheddar, aioli. Perfection.

There are few things in the world I love more than English breakfast (Or Irish breakfast. It's the same thing).

A couple of weeks ago, I got a craving for English breakfast and started searching around Yelpsphere for good English breakfast. The Kerryman didn't show up on my radar, probably due to the fact that they serve "Irish" breakfast.

Regardless, I stumbled (quite literally) onto this place after the Michigan Avenue lighting ceremony. We managed to snag the last table, and boy am I glad we did... For right there on the menu, I spotted it. "Traditional Irish Breakfast."

For those not in the know, Irish/English breakfast is two eggs (usually overeasy or basted), toast, black pudding, white pudding, bangers, ham, grilled tomatoes, and beans.

The Kerryman nailed it. I've had worse English breakfasts IN England... And being able to order a Smithwick's with my "breakfast" was just icing on the cake.

The BEST thing (and this is rare, let me tell you) is that I asked the waiter if they had brown sauce. He looked at me puzzled, and I just said "Ask the chef."

He returned with a bottle of brown sauce and said "I didn't even know we had this." It gave me a smile that stayed with me all night.

The place also reminded me of a pub off of the Covent Garden tube stop in London. It had the same layout with the weird multi-floor stuff. The place is brilliantly authentic in design and cuisine (yeah, yeah, I know... It's technically Irish, but when you're 3000 miles away, what's 100 miles of water?)

I will note that I saw no douchey customers as experienced by other Yelpers. But I was there to eat with my drink. Not stand at the bar and pretend to care about football (Either one).

Had the fish and chips (which was pretty good) and a burger (really good), also they have some great specials on wine / drinks in the evening.  However, a couple times here, and the service has left something to be desired.  I waited almost 15 minutes once for a waiter to come by to ask for a refill on my wine.

I went to the Kerryman this past October for my birthday. I was warned by a lot of people of it's douchebag crowds and long lines.

I got there around 10pm, did not pay cover and got right in without waiting. The bar was already packed, but my group and I found some booths towards the back without any problems.

The music was the best part of the bar. Towards 11pm, they started playing that 90's music you forget existed but still know all the lyrics to. There is nothing better than singing Ace of Base while throwing back a few of those delicious Chocolate Covered Pretzel shots they have.

    I would go back again.

I have been missing out! Went here for the first time a few weeks ago during happy hour, and will definitely be back many more times. I love the atmosphere and seasonal decorations, and that there are different areas of the bar for either sitting down to eat or starting a party. We were upstairs and the songs were SO good even at 6 pm. One thing I noticed before going was that they have some of the best outdoor hanging baskets in the city.

OK, so I've never been here late for the party atmosphere I hear this place brings, only for random work lunches and happy hours. While the service can be inconsistent--sketch one day and on top of it the next--the food has been consistently very good. Not Fogo de Chao good, but above average for a bar. Everything tastes fresher than your usual bar-menu fare.

The salads are top-notch. Not just a thoughtless addition to the menu, they're substantial with well-thought-out ingredients. I mean, how can you not love the warm salon pear & brie?  Even the quesadillas (usually boring) are very well-done.  Spinach boursin dip is amazing. However, it's the smoked gouda mac & cheese that has really changed my life. HOLY SHAT.

If you ever want to be That Person at lunch who throws caution to the wind in the face of all your healthy coworkers, who skips the salad and orders completely based on hedonism, get this, and ADD BACON.  Creamy, cheesy delicious Heaven on a Plate. Topped with crispy potato chips (because it wasn't bad enough already), this dish is likely to inspire envy in all your Diet-Coke-sipping, salad-eating friends.  Comes with a delicious fresh salad on the side, so at least you're not a total caveman. GET IT AND THANK ME LATER.

You know what? The Kerryman was an above-average choice for dinner. Was it the best place I've been in Chicago? No...it's not Hot Doug's, Xoco, Mercat a la Planxa, Zed 451, Keefer's, Gibson's...mmmmm...

Still. It is a good choice for dinner. I cannot speak to its quality as a bar - I'm sure it verges on run-of-the-mill. Nevertheless, we had a good experience here! Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. I tried a $5 mimosa which was not very special but I guess a cool special to have on a Friday night. My date enjoyed a Stella and a 312, and I also got a Stella after my random mimosa.

I ordered the chopped salad without egg. It was actually...good. I didn't have high hopes. A slightly overpriced sports bar with fake Irish origins...surely the salad is an afterthought. But no. It was a nice portion (doesn't look like it but it is) chock-full of interesting ingredients, and the BBQ ranch I had on the side was appropriately tangy. My date enjoyed his gouda burger, especially since it had a great surprise of avocado, though the entire thing was a bit unwieldy in his opinion. Even though this bar/restaurant is surely a bit douchey, and even though the busboys seemed really nervous about approaching our tables (we are not scary I PROMISE), they definitely put some thought into the food, so...well done.

Pretty tight bar in this area. Had the time of my life - maybe because of the draanks or the company. Either way - fun times. Didnt stay on the 1st floor, went straight to the 2nd floor. From the outside, this place doesnt look like the potential it has on the inside/upstairs. The DJ upstairs had a wide variety of songs and the crowd was thick  with dancers and drinkers. Places to dance, chill, sneak away, or catch your breath at tables lacing the walls upstairs. Adding it to the locals scene options in my back pocket!

    - Jager Bombies
    - Irish Car Bombies
    - Jack Daniels
    - Blueberry tonics
    - Red bull vodkas

This place is super fun if you're looking to dance to songs you forgot existed but know every word to.  I went on a Saturday night, and as the night progressed, the 90's rap songs got better and better.  The DJ also mixed in current songs.  With the music choices it's inevitable that you'll dance and have a good time because everybody around you is doing the same.  It's a nice find downtown too for when you're tired of waiting in lines, paying top dollar for drinks, and being surrounded by tourists!

My only complaints are that the speakers got static-y sometimes and they need more air conditioning!

I came here on a Friday afternoon for happy hour with my lab. The place was already pretty packed, or at least more crowded than expected for a bar at 4 in the afternoon. We asked for a table for 12 and they squeezed up into a small corner since we didn't have a reservation (even though we called in advanced to ask if they take reservations and they said that they didn't). Other than that, everything else was great.

We ordered all of the apps to split:
    1. Spinach and boursin dip - pretty good
    2. Chicken fingers - really yummy, and I loved the marie rose dip
    3. Irish quesadilla - really yummy and I liked how much spinach there was inside
    4. Prawn martini - pretty good
    5. Claddegh wings - just okay
    6. Kerryman Crabcakes - pretty good
    7. Curry fries? I think that's what we got, I don't see it on the menu but it was covered in curry. I didn't realize Irish curry = Japanese curry lol

I also got two drinks - a margarita (celebrating Cinco de Mayo early, oh yes) which was pretty good although I should've asked for it to be blended, and a Kerryman Creme aka my new favorite drink ever. It's like a white russian but with a hint of peppermint. I usually don't like peppermint, but this was the perfect hint of mint.

Overall, great meal. I would come back to try the salmon pear and brie salad. And for another Kerryman Creme mhm.

The food was ok and the service decent.  We went to lunch so we didn't have to deal with the yuppy crowd I read about.  I got a chicken sammich and the flavors were ok.  I wouldn't go back, it wasn't anything special that I can't find at a hundred other places within a block.

Came here for a quick lunch and actually thought it was very good. Waitress was an uber-snot, but whatever; wasn't expecting Alinea-esque service.

Went with a Turkey Rachel sandwich which was served on white toast with thousand island dressing, melted cheese, bacon, a big-ole bunch of turkey, and fresh lettuce and tomato. Had it with a side of sweet potato fries (subbed out for the steak fries).

I also munched on my neighbor's gouda mac & cheese. It had potato chips on top! So sinful, but really rich and creamy -- and available in a side size...score.

From what I could tell, there were a ton of good menu options: chopped salad, soups, burgers, etc. I'll definitely come back.

I have loved coming to the Kerryman since it opened a few years ago.  I have always come by after eating dinner elsewhere, as bar food tends to lean more on the non-vegetarian side, and when initiating a night of drinking, its always wise to have a nice full meal beforehand, instead of sticking to fried foods of the bar-food variety.  And for a vegetarian, most often, the fried foods of a bar-variety are french fries or onion rings...

The drinks and dancing here are pretty cool.  The atmosphere is usually young professionals which is nice because I've noticed that I have a low patience tolerance for the college-bar type of patrons that some bars cater to.   The tables on the second floor are nice in that you can stay away from the rowdy dance floor crowd while still being able to enjoy being at a local bar.  While I do love sitting at the bar itself, there are times when sitting at a booth is simply the way to go.

As for the music:  I have been there enough times to say that there is a wide variety of music with a dance-able beat, so that's always welcome.

I plan to move back to the city of Chicago soon, and I know that the Kerryman is going to be one of my after-work spots to go to.

I used to live in Ireland, and The Kerryman makes me want to go back, but not for the reasons you'd think. I want to go back because the pubs there are so much better than The Kerryman.

There's nothing wrong in particular with The Kerryman. It's just that it's very predictable. Nothing on the menu is innovative; it's all standard Irish fare with standard ingredients. When comparing it to another upscale Irish pub like Wilde, The Kerryman's food pales. My fish and chips was a bit bland, and my fiancé's curry chicken had a bit of gristle in it. The spinach dip was good, though, and they have a decent beer selection.

I would maybe return for drinks, but not for the food. For the real deal, I guess I'll have to drive to O'Hare and hop a flight across the pond.

Came here solo on a early Monday evening  and sat at the bar. The bartender was the friendliest person ever. I also sparked up a conversation with a few people sitting at the bar too. The food menu had menu things, appetizers with the usual American food, salads, soups, burgers...and I was going to order the flat bread of the day, which was bbq chicken for 9 dollars but the bartender suggested the turkey sliders for 5 bucks, and I got those!

It's a chill, classy type of place, well serviced and clean. I'm glad I stopped by there before heading somewhere else.

This was by far one of our best meals on vacation.  We were there on a Saturday night.  We ended up ordering both the chicken pot pie and the curried chicken - both were excellent.    The Irish brown curry was not overpowering, mild with a slight kick.  The bowl is deceiving, it was a very good portion - my husband had to help me out.   Our waiter was wonderful, friendly, helpful kept our glasses full and coffee coming.

The only complaint I had was the size of the dessert and the price.  Even though the Godiva chocolate cake was good., they should be ashamed of charging $8 for an itty bitty little round piece of cake with a little scoop of ice cream.

I definitely recommend the two dishes we had, - the coffee was good and strong, the bloody mary was very good, but I'd go somewhere else for a more reasonbly priced desert.   So 5 star for the food - 2 star for the desert, and a 5 start on the service upstairs....

Just a note if you get put upstairs, go as far back as you can, the sun can be blinding!

I'm not a fan of trendy or "cool" places. My Chicka & I went here to meet with friends.

Do you have ANY idea how many restaurants don't consider serious salad eaters?

My Chicka & her best friend seem to me... exist on Salads they have to make high maintenance just to be full for the $15.

Kerryman gets it. Basic salad, yummy ingredients, extra protein with a hard boiled egg....

Chicago Restaurants...   GIRLS LOVE SALADS!!!!!!!!! The "Wedge" & other lame salads don't do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you looking for a neighborhood pub that has great outdoor seating?

Well, look no further.  Although the parking situation is less than ideal, (Everywhere in Chicago seems to have this problem)  this place is always rockin'.

My favorite thing about it is they offer Skinny Cocktails!  They have a couple of low-calorie drinks that are great. (They are kinda pricey, but worth it.)

My second favorite thing is--the outdoor patio is lush with greenery, and even though you are on a side street, it still feels cozy yet, metro.

My third favorite thing is you can actually EAT here!  The menu is not just bar food, but has dishes I actually crave even when I am not sipping on a skinny cocktail!

My FOURTH favorite thing--and this is a big deal for a girl--is the bathroom is well attended and actually looks like someone cleans it while the bar is open.

I gotta hand it to you--this Irish pub is great.

Inside the bar it is a bit crowded; but the good thing is that the lighting is so dark, that even "highly personable" (code for: unfortunate looking) guys and gals have a chance there!

Any day of the week is a good day for this place--after work or weekends, you really can't beat it.

Your experience here will depend entirely on the day you visit.

4:30 pm on a Tuesday?  You'll enjoy basic bar food, decent to good beer, and a relaxed and chill environment.

1:00 am on a Saturday?  You'll enjoy the smell of shit wafting from the BASEMENT bathrooms all the way to the THIRD (?) floor/dance club/frat boy hangout.  You'll have to walk over broken glass all over the bathroom floor.  You'll never find a table.  You'll watch plenty of barely legal drunk trixies trip over their 4 inch stilettos as they try to navigate the 70 different staircases in this place.  It's like an elaborate MC Escher April Fools joke.

You may have guessed that my last trip here was on a Saturday.

But seriously, why does this place always smell like a sewer?

To drink a dirty martini do you have to be a dirty girl?

I'm still thinking this one over and until I find an answer, I'll gladly sit back and sip a loveable cocktail in the likes of The Kerryman.

After watching a very lovely and oh so fabulous friend tape her brand new show over at Kenmore Live Studios (So you wanna be a designer-facebook it) celebrations were in mandatory. Not necessary. Mandatory. Stiff, bold and very much tasty beverages to quench our thirsts and occupy our excitement.

Enter Kerryman. The bar is pretty big, with two levels of seating all of which including two fully stocked bars you're bound to find something to sip on without haste. Our group was coming and going, but there was a mass sea of us so we stalked out seats and eventually nabbed a couple of booths. Mind you there are a lot but if you have a group, be prepared to be standing unless you luck out and get a small table to huddle around like a football team.

The extra dirrrty drinks were spot on and I think it's safe to say that we loved them at the time more so than the food. Because we were ravenous and they were stiff enough to hit the spot.

The food though, I am still full this morning. But then again this could be because of a slight hangover from the extra dirtay martini that kept me company through my jaunt.

For the food, we ordered several dishes:

Smoked Gouda Mac n Cheese-sweet jesus. Orgasmic. Nuff said

Smoked Gouda Burger: Um, hi anything with the word gouda in it is going to massage your tastebuds with pleasure. Nuff said x 2.

Chicken Club: Not my order but it looked and smelled tasty, plus the fries are steak cut so expect bigger and badder. Thank you Texas style!

Curried Chicken: God bless a tasty curry that doesn't make you smell like hell the next day. Loved this dish!

Overall the prices were spot on, despite the activity of the bar the staff had their A game going on top form. I'm well impressed with this bar and will definitely be making it a Thursday night stomping ground!

ps...if you see a blonde girl with an empty glass, order up another extra dirrrty martini for her..aka me!

    Thanks :)

Walked over to The Kerryman after Zed451 had shouted out last call for the night and a surprisingly great experience:
-- Some of the friendliest bouncers!
    -- No cover!
-- Good crowd control so place doesn't get overwhelmingly stuffed
-- Great mix of music - everything from the 90s onward
-- Easy to get drinks at the bar because of attentive bartenders
-- Enough benches to put down coats/purses

Ten Reasons why you should be stuck on The Kerryman:

    1. Luck 'o the Irish, Baybee! Great modern take on the standard pub 'n grub recipe... think refreshing Snakebites to imbibe, meat-a-riffic Shepard's Pie to devour and everything else in between. YUM.

    2. Bloody Mary's. This Mary ain't contrary, no Sir! Rich, intensely spicy, totally delicious and served with a heaping wallop of horseradish love, these are not to be missed.

    3. TV's, TV's, everywhere, TV's, TV's in my hair! Great vantages abound for watching the game at any bar, on any one of their many floors, kicking back, sipping a Magners Irish Cider and sipping your Sunday away.

    4. Onion Rings. Cajun seasoned, ultimately crispy, tremendously HUGE, glistening, gorgeous onion rings. Best in the city. Do it.

    5. Their bartenders are hot. It's undeniable. While I regrettably dated one once upon a time, I still often find myself ambling here now and then for a self esteem pick me up. They know how to charm the pants right off the ladies. Figuratively speaking, of course.

    6. Tuesday = 1/2 Price Bottles of Wine all night long.

    7. BBQ Burger. Cooked to absolute perfection, topped with cheddar cheese, those famous onion rings, house-made bbq sauce and saddled up to a handful of steak fries, it's a meal for a man but can certainly be put down gracefully by this here 'lil lady.

    8. Macaroni & Smoked Gouda. Calling all Gouda fans! You must be a lover of that super smokey flavor to fully appreciate this creamy, oozy, zesty delight. With salty potato chips baked right on top it's without question the perfect comfort combo of heaping noodles, sharp cheese and a crispity, crunchity pop!

    9. Hot Toddy, Hot Port, Kerryman Spiked Coffee, Peppermint Patty. All viable and absolutely extraordinary solutions to overcoming your frosty Winter chill.

    10. Summer!! Of course because we know Summer here means gorgeous flora, flowing fauna and all things greenery fabulous! If you haven't sat outside on The Kerryman's enchanting street side patio, you've seriously been missing out. No shortage of a green thumb here, that's for sure! It's one of the loveliest places hands down to be transported to on a balmy Summer night.

I still have flashbacks about my one experience at this bar.

It was a Friday evening, not unlike any other. Met up with some friends of a friend at the Kerryman. I was a little concerned about the quantity of wasted yuppies breakin' it down alllllllllllll over the bar area (so much so that we had little room to stand), but figured hey, they have probably been here since 5, I shouldn't judge.

Then we paid well over $20 for two red bull and vodkas. Not ideal, but they were tasty and the price was expected for that area of town.

    Then....it happened.

They played "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy".
    TWICE.

It was then that I reached my breaking point. The yuppies breakin' combined with the pricey drinks and the dreadful music into a veritable avalanche of suck.

I don't think I can go back. Maybe not on a Friday night, and if there is food involved...

I went there on a Saturday night - and it was like John Barleycorn transplanted down in River North.

If you like that, then this place is AWESOME.  Crowded-ass dancefloor...with people who can't dance.  I saw Chad there.  He was awesome.

The DJ played top 40 with some nice mixes of his own.  Trix was there too.  She was even more awesome.  When I tried to squeeze by her on the dancefloor, she pushed me and said, "That's for shoving me."  I looked at her, touched her arm in apology and said, "This relationship is never going to work."

Aside from the upstairs dancefloor and the whack-ass people that are there in River North thinking that it's a change from Manor, or Angels and Kings, The Kerryman would be an okay place.

I like the outside of the building.  The downstairs bar is cool looking, well decorated and the staff is on top of their stuff.  There's big booths, mini booths and hidden booths all over this funhouse version of an Irish pub.  I'm a big fan, and I think that on any other night this would be a good place to meet with friends for a drink or to have some food.

I swear though, if you worked at this place on weekends, you'd have to pop like 3 Xanax before your shift.  Chad and Trixie can get pretty demanding and they tend to start shoving matches with sweet guys like me.

And by "sweet" I mean, "Awesome, chief."

I'll have to visit another evening.

I went here at 5 pm on a Thursday and it was packed and loud. By the time my friend showed up at 6 there was a line and she had to wait half an hour - on a THURSDAY! We even tried the 'bring her in with a smoker' trick, but the side door bouncer was wise to it. There possibly was some sort of fundraiser or something upstairs, we weren't sure.

The interior of the place is very cool. Until you put people in it. And unfortunate for those already inside there isn't much room to stand.

I'm sure the Thursday deals were part of the big draw. $2 Millers/BL and $3 Sam Adams plus Soco and other stuff I can't remember. We ordered onion rings and a quesadilla, they brought us artichoke dip and a quesadilla. They later brought the onion rings when we pointed it out, but my friends started eating the artichoke dip and they charged us for it.

If I was a girl I'd give it one more star - it's all cute male servers. So I was told.

Oh - but great music! Any place that intersperses Mariah's "All I Want for Christmas" among other classics will earn a warm place in my heart.

This review is not for the dancing.  There was none.  It's not for the velvet rope.  There wasn't one of those either.  And it's not for the loud music.  Couldn't hear it.  I guess to get a great experience at this place you need to go on a Sunday night and sit outside.  And that's just what I did.

The service was great.  Attentive without being over bearing.  The food?  Well we only had a couple of burgers and beers but the food was good (try the Irish Cheddar burger it's got a great sauce)and the beer was cold.  I love that they spent the time in separating the patio from the sidewalk with these large planters filled with summer flowering annuals.

The first floor bar area inside looks great but on a night like this it was deserted.  If that is not enough you can head upstairs to the 2nd bar.

I wouldn't go here to dance nor would I ever stand in line to get in.  But on one of those perfect Summer nights when you want to be dining al fresco on better than bar food- this place fits the bill.

To quote David R., "There is no such thing as an Irish pub with a velvet fucking rope." Brilliantly put.

Okay-- so my friend and I stopped for a couple of rounds last night, and I was less than impressed.  Our server was kind of eccentric.  He actually attempted to convince me that bottled beer is king.  Um, no thanks, I'll take my Hacker-Pschorr draught please. And no, don't pour it into a freakin' Hacker-Pschorr glass and pawn it off as a draught.

On Wednesdays, they offer $4 mojitos, caipirinhas and electric lemonades.  My friend tried the caipirinha and thought it to be average (a Brazilian drink at a mock-Mick bar, go figure).  I did enjoy the patio, however, that area always reeks of something dead.

The food may be the saving grace-- I spied some onion rings that looked like great golden fists of crunch. The couple next to us raved about all of their food so I'll give it another go.

I was excited when this place opened.  It looks gorgeous inside and out, and I had a really good meal there (a burger and some Irish macaroni and cheese).

Then it seemed to become a nighttime hotspot like so many other bars in this neighborhood (and others) and consequently lost its charm.  I tried to come here for St Patrick's Day two years ago and it was understandably packed.  No hard feelings.

Ever since then, my dislike of the Kerryman has grown.  I might be able to forgive the wretchedly loud music pouring out of the windows and doors (and the outdoor speakers which pipe it out to a one-block radius).  However, every time that I drive or walk by here on a Friday or Saturday night, there is a group of people queued up behind a velvet rope.  Dealbreaker.

There is no such thing as an Irish pub with a velvet fucking rope.  The idea of waiting to get into this place is ridiculous.  What a bunch of fools.

It may still be good enough for a weekend lunch, but you won't find me here any evening.

Disclaimer: I sat on the patio and therefore cannot comment on the interior of this place at all.

My coworker and I were here for lunch last week when Chicago was featuring some lovely lovely weather. We snagged a spot on the patio and hung out and drank our beers and waited for our food to arrive.

    I was pleasantly surprised by:
-- The extensive menu. There's a lot of awesome sounding things on there. I ended up with Irish Quesadillas - they have bacon and spinach and some kid of white cheese I don't remember (swiss?) in them and they are awesome.
-- Our server. He had totally mastered the art of being attentive, but not TOO attentive.
-- The hilarious drama down the street. Some car got towed and the owner of the car was basically chasing down the tow truck and throwing stuff at it and yelling a lot.

If I could recklessly transfer a curable yet pesky STD to an establishment, it would be The Kerryman.  This place made me want to noose myself.

There's like 3 floors or something, it's hard to tell, all packed to the gills with people I want nothing to do with.

God, where to start...and I was only there for 20 minutes.  The music was too loud and switched songs every 45 seconds.  We asked the waitress for a beer menu only to never see her again.  The drinks had virtually no liquor in them.  Ugh.

And the topper was this fucking bitch at the bottom of the stairs when we were looking for a space to sit.  She looks up at my friend and I and starts talking some shit and just keeps her eyes on us the whole time, knowing full well that we can clearly see what she's saying.

Um, whore, if you're out there reading this, Fox Valley Mall and 1998 called and want their American Eagle brown henley back.  Also, let your boyfriend know that Ed Hardy trucker hats are for 58-year-old balding men in Orange County who buy diamonds for 25-year-olds that never end up sleeping with them.  Thanks.  Cunt.

I went to a law school mixer here on a recent Thursday night.  I don't think everyone was a lawyer or a law student but there were LOTS of business professionals getting their drink on.  All things seemed pretty status quo until some guy pointed at me and exclaimed, "Nancy Kerrigan!"  Oh I hate being mistaken for that horse mouth. . .why me?!!?!?!

There is a large bar when you first walk in and another upstairs.  I liked the upstairs bar better even though it was a little too much work for two watered-down vodka sodas.

All 1994-silver-medalist-figure-skater comments aside, The Kerryman wasn't horrible.  It  didn't knock my socks off but it did have an authentic Irish guy working the door and the whole Irish-pub thing worked well.  I would go back, but I won't be clubbing any knees to get in.
