The draft beer was good & the service was too. Â The food must've been reheated before it came to the table. Our table haf some kind of microwaved kids pizza, dried out chicken wings, over cooked chips (fries). Â The spinach salad was decent, but the salmon has kept my husband in the bathroom overnight...
Review Source:Went for my third time yesterday. Took a few clients for a business luncheon. Was on the quiet side yesterday (very odd). Â Waitress was attentive. All had a cup of the New England clam chowder. I am by far no expert on chowder but I loved it.
Guests had the grown up Mac and cheese and raved about it. Fish and chips was vey good and my guest loved the fries. I tried for the first time the corrig salad. Yummy. Baby spinach, goat cheese, peppers, candied nuts, cranberries. Great lunch. Great atmosphere!
First visit w/o Jan 14th. Â Overall this was a pleasant experience. Â The service was impeccable and friendly with frequent oversight by the manager and the man who must have been the owner. Â Lots of families and young kids and even the two'ish howler at the next table did not bother us as his parents had him snaffling fries quickly. Â Clean, well lighted, nice enviro. Â
I wish I had loved the Ruben I ordered, but I did not. Â I ate the entire thing so it certainly wasn't awful, but I would suggest grilling instead of toasting, thinly sliced CB vs. those tough chunks, some close to 1/2 inch think. Â Fries were perfect. Â Beers adequate, if a bit unimaginative. Â No stouts, (okay, Guiness), no porters. Â Just a personal pref. Â
Pefectly decent place for a burger & brew and to watch the matches.
I've had a Pub craving for the last week or so, and I'm trying my best to satisfy these desires. Â
As I sat at my Cranford office, working like a slave all morning, I knew I deserved a beer or two with a sandwhich on the side. Â I decided to hit up a place I've been a couple, the Kilkenny House. Â The street parking is rough, as it's a busy street, but you can manage.
I ordered the spicy chicken sandwhich, with a Blue Moon. Â The sandwhich disappointed my spice-taste-budds, but was still pretty damn good. Â Their fries are great, so I ate them all. Â (the last two times I came here I got the cajun chicken sandwhich, wunderbar)
The bartender was very friendly, paid attention to everyone seated, and took care of everyone. Â It's decorated like your typical Irish pub, but isn't the most welcoming place. Â I like my pubs cozy, that's just me.
Killkenny house is A-OK, and that's it. Â It doesn't suck, but it doesn't blow your mind.
Check it out for yourself, you can't knock it till you try it.
Went for lunch on New Year's Eve day...sat in the bar area. Waiter/owner was a pleasant Irish guy. Â Waitress was alright. Food was good! Â I got the sweet potato veggie burger. Â Yum! Â My hubby enjoyed the regular veggie burger. Both were homemade and served on a perfectly toasted, big English muffin. A nice change. Â Comes with fries, but I asked for a side salad instead...which was quite good - it even had diced apples. Beer was cold...pub was warm...we left happy.
Review Source:This is a really nice neighborhood bar frequented by really nice people. Â They always have the game on (football, soccer, etc.), which I love. Â It gets crowded at night, so if you come with a group, get there early.
The food is solid. Â I'm from Hoboken, so I'm kind of spoiled when it comes to good bar food. Â However, the burgers, wings and stuff won't disappoint. Â Looking forward to coming back next time I'm in town.
Only con: Â I wish they would post their drink specials more clearly. Â
Note: I'm glad they seem to have recovered after the flooding in Cranford last year. Â Nice job.
Been here a handful of times and have always enjoyed my meal. There's something very cozy about this place even when it's super packed. The Mac n cheese is a great side and the brie and artichoke dip is delish! Great place to come when you're looking for a casual night out with good food and cold brews.
Review Source:been here twice and have never had a bad meal! we only recently moved to cranford and made our first local friends in this place, so it's a good spot to chat to the next table. food all very good, and you can't beat a cold beer after a long day's work! the owner is extremely friendly and welcoming...we're coming from ireland so having a fellow irish person around the town is great! :) it's definitely our new local. oh and free wifi! :)
Review Source:This review is ONLY for Sunday Brunch. Did you even know they had brunch?! I wouldn't have known!
Seems like your typical Irish bar/restaurant, and I did love the fact that people were getting drunk at noon on Sunday. My kind of people!
The manager is very Irish and friendly and knew my in-laws, as they're kind of Brunch regulars, haha. The service was nice and efficient. Coffees were refilled before we had to ask, and they checked in on us often.
The Brunch menu is short but sweet, including Steak and Eggs, Irish Breakfast, Omelet, French Toast, etc. Three out of four of us got the Omelet - which was Chorizo, jalapeno, cheese and onion. My husband got the Irish Breakfast, which was baked beans, ham, sausage, blood pudding and eggs. Everything comes with toast and the Rye toast was a nice option. We got the French Toast for our table to share.
I really enjoyed the Omelet, although I don't think it was Chorizo in my omelet at ALL but regular sausage, haha. The jalapeno added a nice kick, however. Hubby liked the Irish Breakfast, I was mortified at the thought of "blood pudding" - but it just tastes like super crispy sausage. The French Toast was standard, although there's a generous amount of fresh fruit on top. The side potatoes, however, made everything more than worth it - super crispy exterior with soft and creamy interior, the perfect breakfast potato!
I would return for beers and Irish pub in the future.
Never had a good experience here. 1st time had overpriced/lousy food. Second time was harassed by doorman/owner (?) about using bar tables while ordering from the bar. I told him that I would still tip as if I had been ordering food. Third time took forever to get served. Â There will be no fourth time...
Review Source:This place is awful. The bartender said our drinks were comp. but then he charged us. Â He kept apologizing for being drunk on the job. Â Then told me and my friends to stop being so friendly because his gf was watching (we were far from interested). Â He then listened in on a private conversation, I was having, misheard me and thought I was offending him so he forcefully grabbed my arm. Â We left, then him and his co-workers followed us to another bar to harass us more. Â Boycott this place, they have no idea what customer service is.
Review Source:Food was mediocre and overpriced. Â The mussels were absolutely lousy, The dip was good, the lamb burger was tasty but overdone (rare is purple/red, not gray!).
The waitress was abrupt, not informative, and when asked about a particular wine said she did not know and then never got the answer!
Much too noisy, although the back room seemed better.
Way overrated... Cranford Hotel is better, both price and quality.
This was an excellent meal!! Â I live in town and should start going here more often. Â The other couple we were with are regulars and told us they've never had a bad meal here. Â All of the portions were of a very good size and the food was freshly cooked and hot. Â The steaks and burgers we ordered were freshly prepared and not re-heated like most restaurants. Â The desserts and coffee were just as good. Â Based upon our meals that night, this might be the best restaurant in Cranford.
Review Source:Having just moved to Cranford, have heard a lot of talk of this place but had never visited. Â Went last night to meet friends for dinner and drinks... Place was packed! Â Staff was extremely friendly and attentive. Â I was impressed with the menu.. lots of good choices, all with a creative twist. I ordered the sweet potato veggie burger which was delicious!! (and only $8!!). Â Looking forward to returning soon.
Review Source:What a great addition to Cranford! Â Kilkenny House has a wonderful atmosphere - the owner, Barry, is very hands-on and happy to make sure that people are enjoying their experience. Â (Plus he has great stories told in the best Irish accent!!) Â The Guinness is perfectly poured by friendly bartenders. Â This is a great spot to meet up with old friends or make some new ones!!
Review Source:This is a good Irish Bar. The food is good, the atmosphere pleasant, and priced well. The main room can get a bit crowded and loud but the have a very nice room in the back which is very pleasant and much quieter. Â The service is very good. Â I have eaten here a number of times and have never been disappointed.
Review Source:Love the atmosphere and beer culture. Food is up and down. Brie and Spinach dip, shrimp, Pot Pies, burgers and Vegi burgers are all amazing.
Trained to Pour a wonderful Guiness - perfect..
Dissapointed with fish and chips which is a featured dish. On busy days seems they pre-cook, stage and re-heat before serving  (this was my dinner on 12/18/2011).
Great bartenders, servers and owner.
Been here many times... never a bad experience. One of the better Irish bars in the area and I love that they have Boddingtons and Hoegaarden on tap. Food is really good but is a little overpriced. I had a spicy chicken sandwich for $10. It was excellent, but it's a sandwich after all.. should be around $8 at most. MR's burger was "delicious." I liked trying this place for lunch. We had only been there for dinner/drinks until today and I really enjoyed their lunch menu and atmosphere. It was busy in a good way.
Review Source:My boyfriend and I came here last night for a few drinks. Â It was our first time here and we were both pleasantly surprised. Â It's very cute inside and there was a decent crowd. Â We were happy with the crowd size, as we were looking for a lively place but still wanted to be able to hear each other speak, which this place definitely offered. Â There was plenty of seating around the bar. Â I had diet coke and vanilla vodka and both drinks were very well made. Â We definitely want to come back and maybe try their food.
Review Source:2ND time at this place and was really disappointed with the bartender was not having a good day or has extremely poor manners. Turns out from another idividual who has had the same experience at this place the bartender does not like serving women even though she is one.
My advice sit at a table or skip it altogether and go to Cranford Hotel or Riverside Inn - Dive bar.
Authentic! Â Went here after going to Ireland. Â Fish and chips and an Irish coffee. Hubby had the steak sandwich and BFF has the cranberry walnut chicken salad dish yum! Â Live music on weekends. Very nice and quaint. Great service. Â Affordable. Â Many regulars and the owner Always goes to each table to say hello.
Review Source:Kilkenny you need to do away with folk irish band, first 15min is ok but after awhile all the freaked songs sound the same!!!!!!!
Here the bartenders pour away some of the Guinness foam to quicken the fill, how blasphemy, no wonder everyone in Europe thinks Americans are wasteful. Â
Still I will forgive you and still come here again only because there are few places with liquor licenses.
Great relaxed place to grab a meal or a grab a drink--I've been there for both. Â Small menu with traditional Irish pub fare plus a good amount of daily specials. Â Nice selection of Irish beers on tap and bottled, as well as tasty mixed drink menu. Â Like everyone else says, their hot artichoke brie is awesome--and of course, you can't beat a nice tall Guinness. Â Their Gaelic steak and Curry Pie are pretty tasty too--oh--and dessert--the Fallen Chocolate Cake--yum. Â Great, warm Irish staff that treats you like one of their own. Â Diverse crowd--young families, singles, and adults of all ages--there's a bunch of regulars as well. Â Very clean and warm atmosphere. Â Also a nice option for those too mature for The Office crowd, but not quite mature enough for The Cranford Hotel Crowd--aka the 20something-30something set. Â Highly recommended. Â Check out their website for Happy Hour and Daily Special info.
Review Source:This is a good place to hang out and grab a couple of brews. Friendly staff and quick/attentive bartenders. The downside is this place doesn't have good food. Went there with my gf and her mom. Our food was normal Irish Pub fare however it wasn't good. I had the steak panini, gf had a salad and her mom had the Rueben. The rueben feel apart as she attempting to eat it and needed a fork/knife to eat it due to this. My steak was dry, overcooked, and a very bad part of meat. Her salad was average. Good vibe and fun place but not much of a menu and quality of food.
Review Source:My wife and I had lunch here. Â The place is a very friendly pub/restaurant and you feel like a regular on your first visit. Â Â We ordered a baked artichoke brie dip appetizer and split an order of fish and chips. Â The baked artichoke brie dip was awesome, and I plan to get it on every visit. Â The fish and chips were also pretty good, but next time I plan to try the shepherds pie. Â They had multiple beers on tap including Guinness. Â We split a fallen chocolate cake and a cup of coffee and both were very good. Â We definitely plan on stopping here again next time we are in the neighborhood.
Review Source:The only think wrong with my experience was the decision to go the night after Thanksgiving. Â All Douchebags Eve. Â When all of the old football players from your high school waddle their horrendously aged bodies out to cavort and make merry. Â I should've stayed home and watched the Incredibles on TV, as was my original plan.
The place is well-appointed, from what I could gather through the sea of humanity. Â The bartenders (there were at least three and a bar backer working) were attentive and quick. Â I didn't have any food so I can't comment on it, though word on the street is that it is perfectly edible.
If, for whatever reason, you find yourself in Cranford, this place is walking distance from the train station and will take decent care of you. Â Just avoid folks wearing the Cranford Football varsity jackets with the worn elbows. Â They're likely talking about something stupid.
