Not what i expected. Over priced and very small portions. Ten dollar for a grilled cheese sanwich that supposidly had 3 types of cheese in it with grilled onions. It was loaded with onions, and looked like they just spead on very thin layer of goat cheese. Also asked for my eggs over easy and they overcooked them, so no dipping my toast! Unfortunate since this place has been around for a while. After reading other reviews its seems maybe they changed owners??
Review Source:I was wrapping up my trip to Chicago and I returned to a small place I had dined at before when I used to live here. Â I was solo so I sat at bar. Â There were two employees hanging out at the counter, (it was early and the place had yet to pick up, which it did by the end of my meal). Â These two young ladies were a perfect fit for this place and their scrap book discussion, Etsy, Regresty (funny website posting bizarre Etsy items I learned) and general topics were great eavesdropping material.
I drank three pots of coffee and order the Huevos Locos (Spicy Crazy Eggs) 10.99
3 eggs scrambled with spicy chorizo, habanero, mango-mojito salsa & pepper-jack cheese, served with warmed soft white corn tortillas, garnished with fresh fruit. Â I thought it was OK. Â The eggs were a little dry, they didn't overdue the chorizo, which is no small feat so kudos for that and the habanero had a beef to pick with me and won, stuff had a nice kick to it. Â The warn corn tortillas were a treat and helped the meal, but I feel like it needed something else.
To Recap:
The Good: Â The decor is the standard for kitsch and put a smile on my face. Â The staff is very helpful, cheerful and attentive, they deserve five stars, great group.
The Bad: Â Bad is too strong, but there are some amazing places for breakfast in Chicago, if this were in Kansas it would be five stars, but in the Windy City the expectations are higher. Â I would come back, but it wouldn't be in mainstream rotation.
The Band This Restaurant Most Resembles: Devo. Â Retro with their own side of funk.
