I have never tried authentic Indian food before so my boyfriend and I decided to go for 52.80. The food was great but the service could have a little work done. Â The parking here is also hectic. It took a long time for the servers to even give us water and take our order. When we were done with our meal we received our checks right away but we waited about 20mins and our waitress never came by to get it. We were tired of waiting so we ended up having to bring it up to the bar to pay. We will definitely come back for the food and hopefully the service will improve by then.
Review Source:This place used to be good and reliable. Â Recently, both have been an issue. Â Today, we order put our order in for carry out (as usual). Â The order was done incorrectly upon arrival. Â We wait and they offer a discount. Â No discount could be provided as their managers card was missing. Â We get home and the order was still done incorrectly. Â Chicken Tikka and Butter Chicken are simple orders. Â Sadly today wasn't the first time recently. Â The food has been going downhill for a while, too. Â Likely will not return.
Review Source:I love this place! Â While I've only eaten in-house once or twice, I've gotten take-out several times. Â I have never been disappointed: food is always very good, full of flavor and made with quality ingredients. Â While the price is a little high, my partner and I can easily split a single order of rice, a meat, and naan.... so you definitely get your dollar's worth in terms of portion size. Â Delivery is also very fast.
Review Source:I hate to lower my rating even more than it is but I just don't get it. Â The food is great, I love the momos, samosa, saffron rice, paneer, aloo gobi, tikka masalas, I love just about everything here. Â But their service has severely gone DOWNHILL. Â
I understand you're busy but I hate repeating myself and having to request things 3 times. Â The sauces that accompanied our appetizers and pappadums came well after the food had cooled. Â Our entrees arrived before we had plates and we had to ask for those damn plates. Â Yes, I am getting worked up. Â Then, to top it all off, I checked my bank statement. Â We had split dinner three ways for a four person birthday dinner. Â I was charged my portion TWICE and then charged a THIRD time for the ENTIRE bill. Â Hell no!
Thank heavens they have other locations.
I have been to Little India probably more than any restaurant in Denver because it is always good. Recently we had a coupon for 50% off our meal, so we took advantage of it! I don't care if it is "authentic" or not. It irritates me when people are too good for things because they are not authentic. What does that even mean? Well, this is authentically, Little India. I love their Chicken Tikka Masala and Saag Paneer. No need to branch out....ever. We just get that. They have brown rice now, which is a nice option, but we still got plain old basmati, or whatever. The food was great, my glass of red zin was delish, and we left full and happy. They always have really nice servers, too. The 6th ave. locale is my favorite. Their lunch buffet is seriously awesome and sometimes they have coupons for free buffet. Watch for those little gems.
Review Source:I love this little gem.
The boyfriend and I have tried to stop here on multiple occasions only to find the restaurant closed so we were definitely stoked when we were able to enjoy dinner here last night.
Upon entering Little India, the first thing that struck me were the awesome aromas that fill your nostrils and take you out of DenCol and pull you into India. The atmosphere was cozy, warm, and romantic and the artwork is beautiful.
Our server was very kind throughout the entire experience and the bussers were great, as well. We started with an order of Momo which were tasty but we didn't expect them to be fried, we usually have them boiled. They lacked a little flavor but were not awful. My dining companion ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and loved it and I ordered the Fish Masala and enjoyed it. I was a tad disappointed by the runny texture but the spices made up for it.
Perhaps the only complaint that I have about the night is a little mix up about the check. When we ordered the server asked us if we wanted white, saffron, or brown rice. We both figured that they were all the same price based on how she was asking but were disappointed to find that my saffron rice was $4 extra.
Overall, the food was great but the atmosphere is what really kicks this place up a notch for me and is what may keep me coming back.
Hubs and I went here for the first time last night as we had a Groupon. Â Word to the wise, parking can be a little tricky due to its behind the alley location. Â It might take a couple trips around the block to obtain parking.
I didn't have any high expectations of this place and just went with an open mind. Â I was struck by how cozy it was inside, particularly on this cold winter night. Â The place was heaving and I was glad that we'd made reservations as it looked completely full. Â A good sign in my book. Â I was glad to see so many people partaking in ethnic food delights and that we're not the only ones in this town that adore Indian flavors. Â
The menu offers enough variety but isn't overwhelming, which I liked. Â Our waiter was friendly and enthusiastic about the menu. Â He also kept my chai topped up, which I greatly appreciated. Â
We ordered the onion bahji and some vegetarian samosas, both which were pretty good. Â They also started us off with some papadums and sauce. Â I ordered the channa masala (chick pea curry) with puri (fried wheat bread) and hubs ordered the special-lamb and paneer tikka masala with garlic naan. Â Both of these dishes were really excellent--the chickpea curry was cooked perfectly with the right amount of heat and spices and went very well with the puri. Â The lamb was tender, the sauce wasn't greasy, and the flavors were pleasant. Â The basmati rice wasn't mushy or hard. Â
The ambiance was hopping, the place is cozy, and the meals are greatly satisfying. Â The portion sizes are also very respectable. Â I can see why this place has gotten excellent reviews and won several 'best of' awards. Â
The only downside to our visit is the service towards the end of our meal--it became unbelievably slow....it took some 20-30 minutes to get our bill and wrap up the leftovers. Â Other than that, this evening went off without a hitch and we will most certainly be coming back.
Okay, so the food was DELICIOUS, and the service was AWESOME.
BUT, we got our check and every single item we ordered was a more expensive price than what the menu stated. The waitress pulled the old "oh, our menu is in the process of being updated" trick. I was tempted to walk out and not pay but don't think having a record is the life for me. It's just not okay and for that reason I've never been back.
I love Indian food, and this place does it right. I almost always get take-out from here (although they now do delivery for a fee), but the one time that I ate at a table it was pleasant service.
This is the only Indian food restaurant that has made something so spicy I almost couldn't eat it (I did anyway because I'm a glutton for punishment), which bumps them up a few notches in my book. However, plenty of their food is appropriately spiced and won't burn off the tongues of those who wish to preserve their taste buds.
Little India is definitely a little pricy, but their portions are usually enough for two meals. Don't be cheap - get naan too! Indian food is nothing without naan to soak it up!
Came in for a late lunch and had that days special. I couldn't for the life of me tell you what it was, but i will say it was delicious. The pricing here is moderate and the food is really good. The service was a little lacking, but at 3:30pm you can't expect much (only one person servicing the entire place).
I would definitely come back here for a special occasion or a date.
I have visited Little India (either this location or the one on Downing) for dinner several times. We typically order the same dishes, although we will experiment as well. On this visit, we ordered the Special naan with raita, chicken tikka masala, lamb korma, and saag paneer. I enjoy the naan, but would like to see it a little more stuffed and with a little more flavor punch. This one seemed a little bland. The main dishes are well flavored, rich and warmly spiced. The saag paneer was especially good on this visit. Our only complaint is the pricing. I think $13 for a relatively small dish of saag paneer (essentially spinach and cheese) is way too pricey. The entrees also seem priced too highly considering the size of the dishes, as well as the amount of meat typically within them. I would like to see the price point adjusted to reflect portion size.
Our service on this visit was spotty...it took a good 10 minutes to be greeted, the server never told us the specials (learning them after our meal was over and she was describing them to the table next to us), and we weren't checked on much. I would also like to see the LI's add a little more atmosphere and ambiance. We used to frequent India's Pearl, and miss the niche that an Indian restaurant with good ambiance held.
Overall, good food, but a bit overpriced.
Best lunch buffet at a good price! I love to come in and get the buffet to go. They give you two containers to fill up with a variety of Indian food for around $10. I end up leaving with so much food I am eating on it for 3 days!! Aside from the economical aspect, the food is really good! I am usually not a huge fan of Indian or buffets but they have some items on their menu I could eat everyday. I went to Asia for three weeks and ate a lot of Indian food while I was there and this place definitely compares to the food I had there.
This does not have an upscale type of ambience so maybe not a place you want to take a date you are trying to impress. The restaurant is clean and service is good. I will continue to come back for lunch.
This review concerns the DELIVERY service only.
First of all, let me say that I am a loyal customer to LI, it's one of my favorite places to eat, especially when they have the guy playing live sitar, it's fun.
However, I'm irate and BAFFLED at the 7 dollar delivery charge! When I called for delivery the other night, the (rude) guy on the phone told me that there would be a 7 DOLLAR DELIVERY CHARGE. I said, "Oh, well I guess that covers tip then?" He didn't say yes or no, and just snapped that to give a tip or not was our choice, but that there was a 7 dollar delivery charge. I was starving and confused, so I ordered anyway.
When the delivery guy showed up (a really nice guy) I asked him if the 7 dollar delivery charge covered his tip. He said no. I asked him what it was for, he said he had no idea. I told him that that was too bad, because the 7 DOLLAR DELIVERY CHARGE that LI adds to the total price of the bill for NO APPARENT REASON would unfortunately lower his tip, as I'm not made out of money. He was very sweet, and understood (and said he didn't agree with the policy), but I felt bad. But Little India should feel bad. In effect, this delivery charge comes right out of the pockets of the delivery drivers, as people will give them lower tips. That's not very thoughtful of you, Little India.
WHY do you have such a ridiculous and exorbitant charge for delivery? I don't get anything extra for it (other than mad), and your drivers certainly don't get a better tip. 7 DOLLARS IS A LOT TO CHARGE TO GET NOTHING IN RETURN, you really need to rethink this policy. It makes the price of ordering food from you completely NOT WORTH IT. It almost makes me not want to go to your restaurant at all. Making otherwise loyal customers angry at you isn't good for business, stop being GREEDY.
Their paneer mahkni and veggie korma are out of this world! We always struggle to pick between the dishes and almost always opt for both :) They have nummy chai and their veggie samosas are also delish. It has quickly climbed the ranks into one of our favorite Indian food joints. Definitely go for it!
Review Source:Small, nondescript place. We went in for a late lunch on a weekday, and was greeted by a rather untidy place. The chap who seated us was pleasant enough, and we were directed to the buffet. Most of the dishes were near empty, and it was disconcerting to have to scrape the bottom of the vessels to get enough dal to cover the rice. Nan was quite stale, as was  the chicken appetizer which was dried out to boot (pun unintended!)
Midway through our first plate, we were asked to fill up as they were closing the buffet. There was at least 20 minutes to go to the advertised time, but the chap who asked us to was just following instructions, and I didn't feel like arguing with him. Since the food was no great shakes, we just grabbed a dessert item each (a generic milk dessert that might well have come from a grocery store), and finished up our, by now stone cold, meal.
I gave a bonus star for the friendly waiter, who apologized profusely, repeatedly, and to my impression, genuinly.
I learned about Little India at Taste of Colorado when I tried their very tasty Chicken Tikka Masala. Also at that event, I picked up 2 coupons for free buffets at either their 6th Ave or Downing locations. If you get these coupons, inspect them more carefully than I did - you can only use one per table, so if you go with someone, one of you will pay. You also have to purchase a drink, but I did notice this ahead of time.
I never expect as much from Indian Buffets (or buffets in general) as I do from their menu items, but this one I would rate as a little worse than average. The Navratan korma had some sort of unchewable cellulose material in it that I kept having to pick out. The rest of the dishes were solid, though unremarkable. There was a chicken curry, Â saag paneer, a mushroom dish, a potato dish and a chickpea dish. They were all pretty good. The tandoori chicken was a little dry, though admittedly I find that to be pretty common at Indian buffets. There was also a cold food bar, naan, kheer and a mango custard that was a little thin, but tasty.
The service was lacking. Ordering drinks in particular was a struggle. I presented our free buffet cards immediately and was promptly told I could only use one. I noticed the fine print our server pointed out and obliged, and then asked for a drink menu. This request was met with a blank stare and server departure. We waited a bit to see if she would return with menus. When she didn't, we went for our food. A different server brought us water and refilled it for us. We didn't see our initial server again until we were halfway done with our meal. When she came back, I asked for a drink menu again and was told there wasn't one. I understand not having a separate menu, but they don't always have the buffet so they must have a menu with drinks on it, right? Regardless, she listed off some drinks for us. My husband selected a hot chai. The chai ended up being fine, though it tasted pre-made (actually, it specifically tasted like Oregon Chai brand). The entire process for ordering drinks was unduly complicated and lengthy.
As soon as we received the chai and while we were still eating, our water server brought our check, unrequested. I guess they assumed that we didn't want anything else. The check was incorrect, so I gave this server our free buffet card, so it could be fixed. Â Soon after, a third entirely different server brought a new check, saw the old check on the table and got confused. I explained the card situation and she understood, so we were good to go.
Overall, the buffet is just ok and it would serve this place well to have fewer servers and better service. Why so complicated, Little India? Rating = disappointing.
Dinner w/our neighbors, Darrel & Amber. This time the Indian food was their idea. Thanks D & A.
Why 4 stars? Don't really know. It's not perfect, just very good Indian food with good service in a casual atmosphere. Okay, maybe I would find another star if there was more available parking. Still, we enjoy it every time.
I have had the pleasure of enjoying authentic indian food for reasonable prices, this was not one of those instances. I ordered the Mushroom Mutter and Little India Special Naan for pickup. I was told that the order would be ready in 30 minutes-okay that seemed like a bit of a wait but, I was really craving indian food.
When I got there the place was empty. Why my order took 30 minutes I will never know, in fact I don't want to know. The server/ host was so flustered between ringing me up, finding my ticket, and answering the phone (mind you the place was dead) that I almost answered the phone for him. The place had a strange vibe. They were playing some smooth jazz rendition of 'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas' (It's August). I should have taken their poor choice in music as a sign but, instead my card was swiped for a seventeen dollar bill-for two pieces of stuffed naan and mushroom mutter!!!!
I get it home. The naan is completely burnt, deflated and sad. It looks more like an airport, T.G.I. Friday's quesadilla. The mushroom mutter was just pathetic. Nothing fresh about it. The mushrooms clearly came from a can, like the ones you put on a bad pizza. The peas were frozen peas. I could keep going. I was so discontent that I almost went back, and asked for my $17. I really don't understand why this place gets such good reviews. It is a joke. Do the people in this town lack the knowledge of great ethnic cuisine?
I have had better experiences with indian microwavable dinners for a fraction of the cost.
IF YOU KNOW ABOUT AUTHENTIC INDIAN FOOD DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS NONSENSE/SHIT.
This place was delicious. Not the best indian food I've ever had, but certainly not the worst. They had a good selection and everything tasted good.
However, the staff never really came by to check on us and my mom and I had to get up multiple times to ask for water, naan, and to even pay the check!
Although this location wasn't as nice as the Belmar location, it's light years better than the Champa location. Our chicken tika masala was hot and delicious and came out quickly. In the meantime we were treated to a sitar player in the main dining room. I can definitely see myself coming back again and again.
Review Source:3 Stars for the food.
1 Star for the service.
This was our first and last time going to Little India.
The server did not explain that dishes have to be specifically ordered to be spicy, otherwise they are served as mild. Nor did she ask if we would have wanted any of our dishes to be spicy. We are spicy food people.
The server did not mention that there are upcharges for Mango Chutney, or any kind of rice other than plain white rice.
We learned about both the method of ordering and all of the upcharges and inclusions by listening to 2 other servers at the surrounding tables.
When the rice came, and was actually Saffron Basmati (which is an upcharge), our server made no effort to change the rice, but stared at us blankly as we tried to explain that we only wanted the rice that CAME WITH the Tikki Masala.
We walked out spending nearly $70 when we really only should have spent around $50 for two people.
Never again.
So as you can all probably see, I'm not the biggest yelp-er. You really need to do an excellent job to get me to Yelp, or you need to do a terrible job. In this case, I have to say I was truly impressed. To find such a quality Indian restaurant just a stone's throw from my house is outstanding, and you can be certain that I'll be back the next time I have a craving for Indian.
In terms of the food, I found everything to be excellent. I ordered the Tikka Chicken Korma with a side of Alu Naan (I was torn between that and the Saag, but I definitely think I made the right choice!) and I found everything to be delicious. The chicken was cooked perfectly, the sauce was packed with flavor (you can tell that it was freshly made) and even though it wasn't quite as spicy as I would have liked (I like it hot) my server Brittany was nice enough to bring out a dish of this extremely spicy chili sauce that did the trick (but don't be like me and dump that stuff on... I was forewarned but didn't listen and even someone who loves it hot had a tough time later that night). And the naan? Simply amazing, the potatoes and peas were cooked perfectly in the bread, and was perfect for dipping.
Service was prompt and efficient, and Brittany couldn't have been nicer. She even offered to add potatoes to my Korma because I was torn between that and the Saag. In the end, I went with the traditional Korma but it was so nice of her to even ask. Most importantly to me, it was evident that she had a lot of passion for the food she serves. I'm not sure how many Yelp readers take that factor into consideration when they review service, but I was thrilled to see how much Brittany enjoyed her restaurant's cuisine.
Okay, so maybe the menu I was presented could have been a little cleaner, and yes, I do agree that the place is a little cramped. But I kind of like the warm atmosphere (and the traditional live music was a great touch), and the quality of the food and service far outweighed the tiny issues I noticed. I work in hospitality here in Denver, so dining for me is much more than just eating a nice meal. The whole experience was outstanding, and even though I ate so much food I had a tough time walking home (slept very well that night!), I'm already looking forward to my next meal at Little India on 6th Avenue.
I really enjoyed the food here and was pleasantly surprised by the generous portion sizes, but I felt a bit overwhelmed by how crowded and chaotic the dining room was (from what I could tell, the staff also felt completely overwhelmed). We hardly saw our waitress except for our food order, but dinner came out quickly and everything tasted really good. I would definitely go back for the food, but it wasn't a good choice for a romantic date night.
TIP: Definitely make a reservation, and don't do it last minute if you're planning to reserve online. We made reservation through Yelp about an hour before we went in, and they didn't have our reservation.
What I had? Â Chicken Tikka Masala (Involves both tandoori cooking and preparation similar to curries but
having thicker sauce) and Alu Naan (Naan stuffed with mashed potatoes and pea)
Food review: Â Pretty tasty stuff as usual. Â Chicken was a little dry but the curry sauce really helps with that once again. Â I think I finally found a naan I really enjoy. Â It's not to say I don't enjoy other naan but the Alu Naan is probably my favorite now. Â Mash potatoes and bread. Â Yummm! Â :-) Â
Service? Â No complaints
Other thoughts: Â Pretty cramped quarters here as far as the entrance (really no place for people to wait at for a table) and the back area with the tall top tables. Â I got put at a table in a rather strange spot. Â I was placed right in between the entrance of the men's and women's bathrooms. Â It's not really a big deal except when a line builds up which can happen pretty easily there given that the bathroom can be utilized by one person only. Â They really shouldn't have a table there in my opinion. Â Very awkward. Â In fact, thinking back on it I'm very tempted to move the review to 3 stars because of it but I do like to keep the reviews based on the food.
I've been to the restaurant once, but my boyfriend is ordering delivery right now. Â And my instant comment about that is "$7 for delivery?!?!?"
That aside, I'm craving Indian and I don't want to go out, so I'll pay. Â This is our first time ordering delivery and it might be the last.
Every year, my siblings and our families get together for dinner for what we call "Mom's Day"; it's the anniversary of her death, so we insure no one is alone on that day. Â I used OpenTable to make a reservation as the family is 6 adults, one teenager, and two toddlers--restaurants like to know a party that size is coming right? Â When we arrived at the restaurant, there was no record of our reservation; however, we were quickly seated and placed our orders.
Our waitress seemed overwhelmed by us, but she was polite and patient as 5/9 of us had never eaten Indian before. Â The food came quickly and was tasty. Â Even the picky eaters (not just the kids) enjoyed the food. Â We shared as you're supposed to do while eating Indian, and everyone was full afterward.
Good food, good times, and really is a good place to eat with kids.
This place may be called Little India, but it's big on flavor, service and price. Definitely a high quality Indian restaurant in Central Denver.
I've been here a few time for their quite affordable and delicious lunch buffet, but with a recent Groupon offering, I decided to come here for dinner. It was just as delicious as lunch, but with some more offerings. I really loved the naan bread they had, which was stuffed with almonds and dried cherries. Definitely an interesting flavor to have when dipping it in some curry.
Their butter chicken is as always quite wonderful. I love the complex spices: Sweet, smokey, curry, savory, silky. Just a great dish.
Because of Groupon, it was quite busy the Friday we went. So we just plopped ourselves at the bar and had some of their yummy mango cocktails. Service was efficient and friendly. The bartender in particular was very cool and told us a few stories of some of his L.A. adventures.
All in all, I am a big fan of Little India.
I've been hunting around Denver for the best Indian for quite some time now. I must say, Little India definitely delivers the goods.
For dinner, we ordered the chicken tikka masala, somosas, and some yummy mixed drinks. Everything came out fresh and legit - and the price was fairly reasonable (though probably not as much as a deal as the lunch buffet).
Service, on the other hand, is quite slow and you're often left scratching your head to where your waiter is. Since the place is quite small, you figure they must be hiding somewhere or are totally understaffed 100% of the time.
Either way, it's pretty tasty food and the place is quite cozy - recommended for small groups and lunch!
The food was delicious!
I met my friend at Little India over the weekend and we had a very nice time. Â We began with the Punjabi Samosas, which are big, pyramid-shaped dumplings filled with a spicy mashed potato and pea concoction. Â This was served with a mango chutney. Â Very good. Â And large.
For dinner, my friend had the Combination Curry (Shrimp, Lamb & Chicken), and I had the Chicken Korma. Â Both were great! Â Nothing too spicy-hot, but spiced just right. Â We had the Raita as a side, and it was very nice.
My friend decided to go for it and ordered dessert. Â She ordered Gulab Jamun - A classic Indian dessert made of milk balls in sweet warm syrup. Â It was to die for. Â I had just ordered Chai, and I had to practically wrestle a bite of the Gulab Jamun from my friend to try it. Â I'd definitely order it again!
All in all, we had a really nice meal!
I was really unimpressed. And coming here, I'm a little surprised at the general positive nature of the reviews. Â Perhaps we just got really unlucky? Â Even still I don't know if I have it in me to give this place another chance.
The food was bland. The masala sauce tasted like canned tomato sauce with a dash of weak curry. I also got charged an extra $3 for asking for some raita with my meal. Three bucks for a thimbleful of raita? Â Really??
Also, the waitress was unfriendly, and assumed we had never eaten Indian food before and then treated us like children. All in all a very disappointing experience. I will keep looking for the ever elusive good Indian food in Denver.
This rating is specifically for the 6th Ave location. See my Champa St. review for a distinctly different reaction.
Little India's lunch buffet on Tuesday and Friday is DELICIOUS and inexpensive, for Indian. You can have as much butter chicken, spinach and potatoes, naan, chutney, rice pudding, and melon as you can stand. There are other buffet items, and vegetarians will have plenty to choose from, as well.
It gets crowded for the lunch buffet, so get there at 11:30am if you can. No worries though, buffet items are replenished almost immediately. Enjoy!
I haven't found any mind blowing Indian in Denver yet, so I keep coming here out of convenience (and the constant flow of Groupons.)
Pros: Decent lunch buffet
Chicken Vindaloo at just my spice level
     Food is out quickly
Cons: Crowded tables
      Lackluster service
Over priced booze, particularly the beer
Ugh. Â Maybe it's just because I went within a week of an amazing Pakistani dining experience on Devon Street in Chicago. Â Or maybe it's because my waitress was extremely condescending and rude. Â Or maybe this really is just terrible Indian food. Â All I know is that this was one of the most unpleasant dining experiences of my life.
We shared the Channa Masala, Chicken Bhuna, and Saag Paneer. Â All flavorless and served lukewarm. Â The naan was also served room temperature and was not a very appetizing flavor or texture.
A few little things that pushed my buttons:
1. When I asked what our waitress recommended, she gave a big sigh and just spouted off Indian Food 101. Â "Masala is a red sauce, Paneer is cheese." Â Wow, I'm not stupid. Â I asked for recommendations not a description of Indian cuisine.
2. What self-respecting Indian restaurant makes you pay for plain yoghurt? Â Did I miss something here? Â That's like a burger joint charging for ketchup!
3. I understand that you get a lot of (possibly inexperienced) people into your *chain* Indian restaurant, but you can't treat everyone like an uncultured slug just because you assume they're ignorant. Â There's a first time for everything and if someone has the deep misfortune of having their first Indian dining experience at Little India, you don't have to add to their displeasure by being an uppity jerk. Â I mean the food's bad enough!
4. Just in general. Â Indian food is meant to be spicy. Â Little India is like Indian food for toddlers. Â No need to dumb it down for the masses if you're going to treat the masses like unworthy slobs.
To end on a positive note: they staff a couple water boys so no matter how inattentive your waitress might be, your glass is always full!
Sweet lunch buffet! It's the way to go in my opinion. I love Indian food, and I miss great quality Indian for a price I'm use to paying on Indian Row in NYC (where I spent my college days). I've come to Little India before during dinner, and as delicious as it was, I felt a bit apprehensive when the check comes with entree prices close to $20. However, the 7 days a week lunch buffet is a great if you're like me and want to eat more than you can handle for less than $10.
The options at Little India are standard, They provide a salad bar with all the chutney and raita you crave, along with chicken options (tandoori and a curry), naan and rice, and a large assortment of yummy veggie choices. Also, since it's a buffet, the level of spicy-ness is all mild, but full of flavors.
Holy hot vindaloo! I'm awfully glad that Nick ordered the chicken vindaloo instead of me because I loved the flavor, but I couldn't have eaten a full serving of it. When I took my first bite the spicy hit me right in the back of the eyeballs, they welled up with tears and my nose got a little runny. Then you had to have a cooling bite of the Raita and you'd be fine until you took another bite and it started all over again.
As for me I ordered the Saag Chole and it did not disappoint. Spinach and chickpeas in herbs, served with saffron rice = deliciousness in my mouth. And a lovely counterbalance to the hotness of Nick's dish by the by. We also shared an order of the veggie samosas and you can't really go wrong with those here.
The service is usually quite nice here and I'm glad that this place is walking distance to my house so that I can be a repeat visitor without any hassle. The only thing I would warn you to beware of is the price of drinks. Mojitos are $9 which seems crazy to me. But they are also quite delicious.
