I've been to this Llywelyn's a couple of times in the last month, once for happy hour and again Saturday for lunch. Â Our 6-yr old loves their food, we like their happy hour prices and their stadium shuttle. Â The atmosphere is kind of "unauthentic pub" and seems a bit outdated. Â
The only reason we went Saturday was because Bogart's line was too long. Â We had a bowl of crab bisque, recommended by the waitress, fish and chips (with chips, not fries), kid's sliders and one pretzel stick. Â To be honest, the pretzel stick was the only stand-out and with three beers, lunch set us back over $50, so we thought that was kind of steep. Â You'd think on Saturday mid-afternoon they'd have some beer specials, but no. Â We were much happier with our happy hour visit, when they have, as I recall, $3 pints and half-price apps. Â They have a nice selection of beers on tap. Â I had the Schlafly Brown Dragon Ale, which you don't see often.
I can't really recommend this place as a destination unless you want to be sure and have enought room for a big group, or if you're going for happy hour.
Love me some Llywelyn's! Â I've been a few times and all for different reasons - bar crawl, dining, and trivia night - and each time we had an enjoyable experience. Â
The place is pretty large and always has a lot of people when we go, however I've yet to have to wait for a table. Â They have a ton of beers on tap (including Bass and Strongbow!) and a pretty extensive menu of traditional pub fare. Â When we went I had the chicken salad croissant with fries - however, after seeing/tasting/stealing the majority of my friends sweet potato fries, I'd go with them next time! Â Someone else ordered the shepherd's pie, which looks is as close to soul-food as Irish food can get. Â I would order it, but it is pretty heavy on the mushrooms which, unfortunately, is the one food item I cannot stand to eat ,so I'll avoid being a diva and order something else and just continue gawking from the other end of the table!
This past Sunday we went for trivia night hosted by So Trivial! and it was a ton of fun. Â A fair mix of music, movies, and other miscellaneous categories. Â The last place team gets a "Rudy" prize which is a round of shots at the bar - and even though it is the bartenders choice, not a bad deal! Â Our team won most spirited and we got beaded necklaces which will be convenient for Mardi Gras in a few weeks! Â And, if memory serves me right, the winning team wins some sort of gift card to the restaurant. Â Surely will be a Sunday night hangout for some time!
I am on the fence about this place... it has the potential to be fun, and they have a good beer selection, but I find that the high prices, and the marginal food keep it from being a place I actually want to go visit. Â Everytime I come here it is because someone else wanted to come. Â So its kind of a mixed bag, I'm not bummed I am going here, but I am never excited about it either.
