I've been to this Llywelyn's a couple of times in the last month, once for happy hour and again Saturday for lunch.  Our 6-yr old loves their food, we like their happy hour prices and their stadium shuttle.  The atmosphere is kind of "unauthentic pub" and seems a bit outdated.

The only reason we went Saturday was because Bogart's line was too long.  We had a bowl of crab bisque, recommended by the waitress, fish and chips (with chips, not fries), kid's sliders and one pretzel stick.  To be honest, the pretzel stick was the only stand-out and with three beers, lunch set us back over $50, so we thought that was kind of steep.  You'd think on Saturday mid-afternoon they'd have some beer specials, but no.  We were much happier with our happy hour visit, when they have, as I recall, $3 pints and half-price apps.  They have a nice selection of beers on tap.  I had the Schlafly Brown Dragon Ale, which you don't see often.

I can't really recommend this place as a destination unless you want to be sure and have enought room for a big group, or if you're going for happy hour.

Love me some Llywelyn's!  I've been a few times and all for different reasons - bar crawl, dining, and trivia night - and each time we had an enjoyable experience.

The place is pretty large and always has a lot of people when we go, however I've yet to have to wait for a table.  They have a ton of beers on tap (including Bass and Strongbow!) and a pretty extensive menu of traditional pub fare.  When we went I had the chicken salad croissant with fries - however, after seeing/tasting/stealing the majority of my friends sweet potato fries, I'd go with them next time!  Someone else ordered the shepherd's pie, which looks is as close to soul-food as Irish food can get.  I would order it, but it is pretty heavy on the mushrooms which, unfortunately, is the one food item I cannot stand to eat ,so I'll avoid being a diva and order something else and just continue gawking from the other end of the table!

This past Sunday we went for trivia night hosted by So Trivial! and it was a ton of fun.  A fair mix of music, movies, and other miscellaneous categories.  The last place team gets a "Rudy" prize which is a round of shots at the bar - and even though it is the bartenders choice, not a bad deal!  Our team won most spirited and we got beaded necklaces which will be convenient for Mardi Gras in a few weeks!  And, if memory serves me right, the winning team wins some sort of gift card to the restaurant.  Surely will be a Sunday night hangout for some time!

I am on the fence about this place... it has the potential to be fun, and they have a good beer selection, but I find that the high prices, and the marginal food keep it from being a place I actually want to go visit.  Everytime I come here it is because someone else wanted to come.  So its kind of a mixed bag, I'm not bummed I am going here, but I am never excited about it either.

I loved the fries here, but my burger was just ok.  I don't know, maybe I'm particular about my pub food, but I just wasn't impressed.  Maybe I hit them on an off day.

On another note, I found the service to be very slow and not in the nice "take your time with dinner" kind of way, but in the "take 20 minutes to bring water and take our order" kind of way.

Have always had fun here.  We used to live in the Soulard Market Lofts, so it was our go to bar!  I love the Pub Burger and the Famous Steak and Cheese.  Prices are little high for the quality of atmosphere and food, but it is very convenient to Soulard and there is usually no problem with seating unless there is a special event or a late weekend night.

They have a great beer variety, but they always seem to run out of my favorites.  They do always have traditional Irish beers on tap.

I do love their shuttle service to the Cardinals games!  My wife and I like it so much that we used them for our wedding when we took pictures!

I really have only one complaint.  They sometimes try to cram bands into the bar.  this is great... when its not a five person band taking up half of the bar with their gear.  My friends and I have turned Llywelyn's away many times, because there is a five dollar cover to see a band that you cannot even fit into the same room with.  That gets a little annoying.

Other than that, I think it is a great place to grab a beer before/after a game, and the servers/bartenders have always been great to us!

Cute place in the quaint Soulard neighborhood; however not the greatest place for a late night nosh.  Servers are annoyed to provide service and have little knowledge of available eats.  Bad attitude seems to have been born here.  The flat bread was tasty though!

Proximity can often be the only thing going for a pub.

Up until late April, I was living in the Central West End.  My decision to reside there was solely based on the Metro Link, being the best neighborhood in walking distance of a station.  During my two years in the CWE, I tried out nearly every restaurant and pub, and Llywelyn's CWE location was my favorite. Cheap beer and the occasional decent meal.  And the least pretentious!

Now I live in Soulard, and my perspective has changed significantly.  Llywelyn's Soulard is one of my least favorite bars in the area for two reasons:  the bland food and mediocre waitstaff.

The food prices are comparable to area pubs, which is slightly more than the average restaurant.  I have had several meals at this place and have never felt like I was satisfied.  I opted to stay away from the food last night, and even the smell of plates passing by didn't get my taste buds going.

Aside from one bartender that I had the first time, the majority of the servers are terrible.  During my visit yesterday evening, I ordered from the bar, just wanting a couple of quick pints, and the bartender insisted upon giving me a server.  For whatever reason, she didn't want to wait on me and gave me a "runner" to bring me my beers. I asked for a Fuller's ESB, and he brought me a warm hard cider.  I told him what he had done, and the runner told me that I was wrong but relunctantly sent the pint away.  When he brought me my check, he didn't say thank you, and, yes, I did still tipped him 33%.

The one saving grace is the happy hour, which is three dollar any pints, as long as they bring the right drink to the table . . .

I am not super huge on Irish Pubs, but this one sets the standards!
The staff is consistently courteous. It doesn't get rowdy, is family friendly. And the food is awesome. Their chicken salad is monstrous.
Every time I have gone in here the bartenders have been polite and a lot of fun to speak with.
We usually park at the pub for free, eat for much cheaper than at the stadium, and then take the trolley to and from the game (tip the trolley driver for Christ sakes).  Saves us a lot of money this route.
They hand make their own kettle chips, which are really good. I'd also recommend their chicken salads.

A great Soulard establishment.  Why didn't I discover this place sooner?  I guess it is all who you hang out with... But we had a blast.  It's the perfect place to go to after a Cubs/Cards game.  St. Louis-ans are nice people.  Even while I was wearing a Cubs jersey, they were still friendly to me even while they threw a few jabs about my choice of clothing.

The beer isn't very expensive.  They have all the staples for those who partook.  What was nicer though was that they had a really nice after game menu open to order.  It's also nice to note that you can park near that neighborhood and have a shuttle take you back after the game.  It makes a perfect place to get a bite to eat while waiting for the traffic to clear.

Been here several times in the last 2-3 months.  I keep wanting to like this place but it's just not happening.  The bartenders always seem to have attitudes.  The prices are high and the drinks are weak.  I could go on but I'm sure you get the idea of what road I'm headed down.  I will end on a positive note though.  I'm positive that I won't be going back!

On a rainy and cold Sunday afternoon all I could think about was the "adult grilled cheese"! If you have not had the opportunity to try it, I recommend you do. You will be in love.

Llywelyn's is a great place with a fun atmosphere. I enjoy visiting whether I go for food or drinks or friends I always have a great time. The service is usually good except for when it is crazy busy; and then it is understandable for slower service to happen.

On this particular visit (as I frequent the establishment) I went with my sister and her hubby! They were visiting the area and since I live in Soulard this just seemed like a good place to grab a quick lunch. We did start off with an Irish Coffee; which I was not too thrilled with. Maybe they don't know how to make them properly, but this was just awful. It's not hard to make them; but when someone just adds bailey's to coffee this makes me sad. A true Irish Coffee should be made with coffee, a little sugar, Irish Whiskey (Jameson to be exact) and what is an Irish Coffee without the whipped cream and a green cherry? Our coffee was missing most of the ingredients so I know not to order one of those again. I will just make one myself.

For the food I enjoyed my pub friend and grilled cheese (they sure do make a great grilled cheese)! I believe burgers were ordered with sweet potato fries and no complains on them! The server (Jeff) was great and actually had a sense of humor which I think is important for a server!

I have been back multiple times and will continue to go. Maybe one day I will order something other than my traditional meal, but maybe not.

Would give 3 1/2   Place is kind of our regular boozer.  Good beer selection.  Good Tvs (but NO NFL package)  Food is pretty poor.  Burgers and sliders are good options though.  Bartenders are great and a reaon to return.  Nice and attentive even when slammed.

Always know what you're getting with Llywelyn's.  Decent beer selection and alright bar food (mostly the burgers).  The real reason to come here though are the bartenders.  Sara, Mel and Lorna are always spot on with their service no matter how busy they are.  Also a real pleasure to sit and chat with.

So, I was in town visiting with my team out of O'Fallon and brought me to Llyweln's on a rainy thursday night.

This was in a cool part of south St. Louis that is near the Anheuser Busch brewery (cool tour BTW).  I wish I had a bit more time to spend in this area, but between the time and the rain, wasn't going to happen.

On to the pub.  This was a pretty standard pub experience with some good beer on tap, including hand pumps.  I had a couple of local ones, they were pretty good.'

We were seated in a back room, given the size of the group,so we did not get the full pub experience, but everyone had a good time.  The service was great, especially given our size.  Everything was prompt and we didn't go thirsty.

The food was all around solid pub fare.  Several had the fish and chips (tasty), and a variety of others.

I had the Irish Stew which was one of the best that I have had at a pub.  It was rich with gravy, served in a bread bowl.  I would give this a 5, but it was not as large as I would have expected...I was left a bit hungry.

Overall, I would recommend this place.

It was Labor Day, I was craving wings and I didn't want to venture too far from home. After driving by several places with no luck I remembered Llywelyn's had wings and if I remembered right they were pretty good, so off I go. I walk in and seeing as it is lunch time it's pretty dead, but that didn't bother me. I sat at the bar and was greeted by the friendly bar tender. After asking for a clarification on some of the beers on tap i settled with my tried and true fat tire. I glanced at the menu but knew what I wanted.

I ordered the wings in dragon sauce and watched some of the CFL action on the TVs that hung above the bar. About halfway through my Fat Tire I noticed that my beer coaster was for Urban Chestnut Brewing Company (UCBC) and got really excited. The next time the bartender came back I inquired is they had any UBCB on tap and she informed me they had the Zwickle. If you haven't tried any of the UCBC's beers you really should. I wish she would have mentioned that when I was ordering my Fat Tire, but oh well. My wings arrived and I dug in. My only disappointment was of the eight or so wings there was only a single drumstick. When it comes to wings I prefer drumsticks, so that was a personal preference thing. The wings were much larger than what you get at those places that specialize in wings, so eight of them was about the right amount. The dragon sauce wasn't bad either, although I haven't had too many wing sauces I haven't liked.

I've been here a couple other times and their fried picked wedges are pretty good, and their burgers are good as well. In Soulard there are a lot of options for one to choose from, and I think Llewelyn's is one of the better ones.

A group of ten meet here around 9pm after doing three hours of volunteering. We were eager to reward ourselves with cocktails and food. Once we all arrived we were meet with disappointment, the kitchen was closed. It appears they put a new floor in the kitchen and it had to be closed ALL DAY. Oh well, our server kept the drinks flowing.

You'd think a business owner would have paid the extra $'s to put the floor in after the kitchen closed the previous night so it would be ready for the next days business. I'm confident the money made for an open kitchen would have paid for the extra expense, instead of losing an entire day of  food sales. Just think, if they served us food they might have had a fourth star and if the food was good a fifth.

Llywellyn's is a local chain.. Supposedly a Welsh pub now sporting flags from every Anglo-European country out there. They offer pretty awesome Americanized fish & chips and homemade fries.

Issues are that this place is consistently out of food from their menu, quick to close their kitchen early (regardless of how full the place is) and they have a fractured restaurant layout. If you are looking for a very chain-like sports bar with a few great overpriced pub grub items, lots of beer selections, and an impersonal atmosphere, go for it. But, this is Soulard, former French Quarter, and home of many a wonderful pub. You need to up your game to impress me in this neck of the woods.

Llywelyn's has some of the best pub food in St. Louis. I've always eaten well here. This would be a 4 star, but our service was poor this Sunday. We sat down at 11:30, couldn't leave until 1:30, because the food took 45 minutes, then getting the check/payment took another 30 minutes. A simple acknowledgement that our food would take a while, or an apology would've gone a long way.

I have some friends that love to go here and I just don't see why.   Our sliders came burnt.  It took 20 minutes to get my first beer.  She asked what I ordered again after 10 minutes, and told me it was not available after another 5.  They did not have about 75% of the beers we asked for available.   They were slammed  so I don't think it is all the waitresses fault.  It shows this place is not well managed.

As the beautiful wife noted in her review you can grab a baker's dozen of alcohol soaking sliders for $18 (per their website, it's Wednesday-Saturday, 10 pm to midnight).  So, after the Yelp Burstday party, soaking up some alcohol was a necessity (though if I'm in a bar, adding some more alcohol is a necessity as well).

We went with 6 BLT, 6 lamb, and 1 chicken salad.  The BLTs were BLTs, the chicken salad was chicken salad, but the lamb was a surprise -- the lamb was a breakfast-sized sausage, butterflied open and grilled.  And they were spicy (even better!)

For the record (and before you think that we're absolute gluttons), we took home a good number of these to nibble on the next morning.

I had a pint of Guinness and while it was cold, they didn't let it settle.  It may sound petty or silly, but like all food or drink rituals, there are rules.  And you don't hand off a pint until it's settled (or really close).

BUT, that said, they also have Fuller's London Porter on tap, so it makes for a delicious alternative.

We'll go back -- though more than like after 10pm to grab sliders (and an extra drink or two).

Llywelyn's has always been a fun time with great grub to match the great atmosphere.

I have been here numerous times whether it be for a b-day get together, a halloween bash, or just to chill and listen to live music. I love how their 2 bars areas are split, as on most nights one side has live music and the other is more quiet for those who aren't in the mood to rock out.

They have enough TVs to hang and watch the games, and a pool table in the middle area that splits the two bars. They will even reserve tables for you if you are bringing a large group, which most popular bars won't do for you on a Friday night.

Their food is outstanding and their burgers are my personal favorite. The beer prices are average, and they are one among many of the Soulard bars that provide transportation to and from STL sporting events on their trolley! Llywelyn's has yet to disappoint me!

I've been to the Webster location many times, and always feel comfortable there. The Soulard location had the same feel. Big, expansive rooms, with plenty of TVs but not overdone as to lose the Irish feel.

The white chili is great. I split a burger and cabbage rolls. The burger was good, not great. Something about it being on an English muffin was intriguing but didn't add much to the flavor. The cabbage rolls were good. Basically, it was meatloaf wrapped in steamed cabbage topped with a red sauce. For sides, I had a taste of the colcannon. It basically was mashed potatoes with cabbage. Like many Irish dishes, it didn't really taste like much. I also tried the pub chips. These are always good. Douse them with salt & vinegar and it's a perfect compliment to a cold drink and a burger.

Service here was prompt and friendly. This Llywelyn's didn't let me down. And held it's own amongst the crowded Soulard bar scene.

Free Cardinal's tickets, $35 groupon to Llywelyn's, free parking and trolley to the game! Couldn't ask for a much better Saturday with my little brother.

I'd been to Llywelyn's a couple times before. Once here for a similiar such occasion and in the CWE. They have a good atmosphere inside, nice seating and decor. I hate it when I feel like servers are treating me like a kid. Give me good service and I can be pretty generous. I think I was just being sensitive, because he ended up doing okay.

They have a nice selection of draft beer, which I like to try a few of. Water for the underager. Both of us had the white chili to start. Both of us decided it was way worth coming back for! Roast beef sandwich with horseradish sauce and au jus and home made chips for Doug. I had the fish and chips which left a little to be desired. The batter was slipping off badly on one piece and just a little soggy on the other. The fries were delicious. Certainly a possibility I'll find myself back here. Oh and get to the shuttle quickly after the game if you want to be on the first back. Doug and I walked... Jacki wasn't to happy about that. It really wasn't bad though.

Llywelenyn's is one of my fool-proof pubs, and with several different locations around St. Louis, I'm usually close to one of them.

I was at the Soulard location recently to grab some pre-Cardinals game drinks and food. The pub burger was fantastic (along with their famous pub chips) and our bucket-o-beers was ice cold. I mean, who likes warm beer, honestly?

One of the neat things about this location (and several other bars in Soulard) is that they provide a free shuttle to and from the game at pretty regular intervals. This definitely beats the always crowded MetroLink and downtown parking options.

I've tried a few of their other menu items, and they offer slightly different choices than your regular bar-grill fare.

Okay, so i had one bad experience with Llywelyn's. I shouldn't let that get me down. Since then I have gone back and tried the pub-burger....omg this is good. I was impressed. So I'm changing my star rating from a 2 to a 4.

I guess the key to this place is knowing what to order.

I used to like this place, but I was really disappointed during my last visit.  The food was nothing spectacular, but what really annoyed me was I had to pay a $5 cover charge for "live music" which couldn't even really be heard throughout the bar and then a schlafly beer was $5.  Seems kinda steep for a Soulard bar.

This was my 3rd bad experience with the food so I thought I'd write a review.  It was St. Patty's day weekend, Llywelyn's is an Irish restaurant/pub, and I thought "How could I go wrong?!".  I was disappointed with my meal, but I should say the servers are very nice and this is no way a negative reflection on the service.

I ordered the Llywelyn's Reuben sandwich with sweet potato waffle fries.  When I think Reuben I think of a sandwich piled high with juicy corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and thousand island.

This sandwich had 2 measly slices of  bone dry corned beef that tasted like cardboard and were inedible.  It had cheddar cheese instead of Swiss, and came with a side of mayo.  Mayo?!  The worst part was it had an extra slice of bread in the middle, so it LOOKED tall, but it was really just all bread.  Very disappointing.  I ended up sending it back for a steak sandwich, which although much better, was just so-so for $10.  I probably won't eat there again.

I am a huge fan of this bar. It is the quentissential neighborhood pub. Everyone I know who lives in Soulard frequents this bar. The beer menu is top notch, with 30+ beers on tap. I just ate lunch there and ordered off their new menu. I got the buffalo chicken wrap, with sweet potato fries as my side. It was amazing! Best sweet potato fries I've ever had, and the buffalo wrap was very tasty. Just the right level of heat to the buffalo sauce. Very tasty lunch. Highly recommended.

I would like to point out that I really only go here for their Sunday Trivia night....which really is a lot of fun if you have a great group with you.
We have a good time that night and usually order from their appetizer list since they are on special then.
Last Sunday we went with about 8 people and got a great table (you really should get there about 7).  The Trivia announcers (hosts?) are VERY funny and pick really good questions.  There is always a theme and if you sign up, they will send out email clues the night before so you can read up.
We ordered the white chili and the pub chips this time around.  We really love the chili and it warmed us right up.  The chips were pretty soggy (as usual) but edible.
I will note that the place is VERY, VERY noisy on Sunday nights and the music is blasting....so you'll be doing a lot of shouting.  We never mind this since it's just part of the atmosphere.
I really do hate all the smoke though so that's the main reason I don't go more often.
Check this place out if you are looking for a really fun FREEE trivia night...hit us up too and we'll probably let you sit at our table!

We were pretty let down by the apps. The wings were fine, but we only got 7 for $8. The Welsh Rarebit is a definite no. Trust me on this.

The mains, however, were much better. The pulled pork sandwich tasted eerily similar to corned beef. I asked the waitress, but she didn't seem to know much about the preparation. I'm 99% sure they brined the pork before cooking. It was really unique and impressive. I also tried some pot roast which was solid.

We watched Mizzou get smoked by Texas and then a band started playing. While live music is often nice, this wasn't. Regardless of my feelings about the music the band was playing, they turned up the speakers so loud I couldn't hear anything anyone was saying to me. We felt an urgent need to leave immediately as evidenced by fingers repeatedly pointing towards the door.  If I lived in Soulard, I'd probably come back here for more pulled pork, but not when bands are scheduled.

Generally I don't like going anyplace with a cover, however at $5 the music was great, had a real band, nothing pisses me off more than going to a bar paying a cover to listen to someone plug their iPod in.

The bartenders were great and when I asked if they could recommend something off the menu, they did and they did it well I got the Turkey Ruben and it was great.

I hate going to bars where the bartenders don't know how to work a crowd, these ladies did a great job.

Being that it was my first time ever in St. Louis and the sate of MO ever I am glad my buddy took me to this bar. Oh yea it was the day before Mardi Gras, talk about waking up still drunk the next day to continue drinking again. Fun Times.

Okay, so I found my Sunday spot for football in the neighborhood.  I eat at the Llywelyn's in the West End once a week as I work there and have been to the one in Soulard a few times as I live there.  I took a chance and went there on Sunday after seeing something about specials during football and found that it's the "happening" place to be in Soulard on Sunday afternoons.  The food is always consistent and always pretty decent.  The beer prices aren't bad and the atmosphere is in line with what Llywelyn's is trying to accomplish.  Overall, the place was really busy for a Sunday afternoon in Soulard.  Soulard is generally known as a late night hang out spot.  What about us "day drinkers?"  Now we have a safe haven for Sunday afternoons.  Thanks Llywelyn's!

Easily my favorite of the Llywelyn's.  This one is not half as airy as the Webster location, but it is still open and has ample space...you never feel like you are just lying on top of the group next to you unlike at a lot of bars in Soulard.  I like the crowd at this Llywelyn's best as well.  Every time I have gone to this location, the crowd is a little younger (usually 25-35ish), certainly more casual than at the Central West End location and more laid back than the Webster location.  It isn't that I hate the other locations, I love them as well, but this one is more my vibe I guess.

The service at this location is the best of all three as well.  I have never waited more than 5 minutes for a beer refill and the food comes out just as quickly as it is made.  After some of the horrible service I have encountered as of late, you have to appreciate that.  There is no great patio like at CWE, but on days as hot as we've had lately, that's not always a bad thing.  Oh, and most importantly, they have the same delicious chips that the other locations have.  Excellent.

I have been to all of the Llywelyn's on multiple occasions, some more than others, but each one stands out from the other. The Llywelyn's down in Soulard stands out from the other two in that each time that I have gone there, there seems to be a different kind of crowd that is attracted there. Maybe it is the spill over of the people who had made their way downtown and are not really in the mood for the trendy trendsetter scene, but each time the patrons going there have always been a friendly group of people. Along with the friendly people is the friendly service too.

Each time that I have gone to the Llywelyn's in Soulard I have always had great experiences with the wait staff, sometimes they join my friends and I for a little while (which I'm sure annoys some other people) and this shows me that they are actually paying attention and care about our service, and perhaps tip. Either way we are all happy and that is the main thing that is important here.

The food is great and the menu is the same. The setup of the bar is different as the layout of the building is different from the other places, but it still allows for a nice flow. A gaming lounge is up stairs for those who like pool and such. Most of the time though, I spend my time downstairs with my friends and the alcohol.
