There are not many lanes, only 12. It's dark and the music is horrible. I've bowled at better places that were much cheaper and had better management. This Lucky Strikes location is one of the worse of this companies. The service is slow but are nice. Overall, I would recommend bowling at a different ally.
Review Source:Lucky Strike is not your average bowling alley, combining a bit of flair with their disco lights, Top 40s hits and nightclub atmosphere plus arcade. Â A very affordable leisure activity if you're looking to kill some time. Â It was $4pp for the game and an additional $5 for the shoe rental. Â Those are the pros if you're seeking to do something a little different, but there were quite a few cons too. Â
Smells a little bit like sticky bubble gum and I didn't feel that their shoes were well-cleaned. Â It was difficult to find someone to help us and most of the staff members made it clear they really did not want to be there and that made it rather sad.
There's a cute lounge/waiting area in the front if your full party hasn't arrived yet and there's also a full bar available. Â Even with all these additions, it doesn't do much to enhance the everyday bowling experience.
This place is terrible! Â I cannot express vehemently enough how awful of an experience we had here. Â
The shoe rental attendant is clueless and should pay better attention in her math classes. Â When we rent 3 pairs of shoes, and you give 2 people their shoes, it means I get a pair... Don't tell me I am not entitled.
The lanes: Â why are they crap? Â We had to call the "manager" several times bec our ball was not returned, the score did not populate, or the frame decided to reset itself. Â (Note, she is one of several quasi-managers at the establishment)
Our waiter: Â tsk tsk tsk... never to be seen. We had to get our own drinks. Â Our food was served COLD. Â And the drinks he did manage to bring us, he did not even bother to retrieve the empty glasses.
The "manager": Â denies he's the manager when everyone else is telling us he is! Â Â Why the $5 up-charge on top shelf? Â You charged us $3 for top shelf, then an additional $2??? Â Trying to get more money? Â Perhaps he needs to attend math classes with clueless shoe-rental girl. Â
Because this place is a chain, we expected them to have a more conscientious sense of customer service. Â They were not very pleasant, and we will not be recommending this place to our friends, family, and colleagues.
good food (wings and stuff), good atmosphere, POORLY RUN BY MANAGEMENT. Â Went there for a birthday party - parents had to bring out food, serve drinks, and even cut their own cake! Â I only saw 2 waiters working the entire place (and i noticed 3 parties going on!). Â it was crazy. Â they ran out of shoes, took forever to get food, nobody was around to fix issues when balls got stuck etc. Â
If they fire the manager and hire someone who can run a place like this it could easily jump to a 4 or 5 start review. Â Seeing what I did, I would never have my kids party there despite it being a cool, fun place.
came here for bowling on a saturday afternoon / evening. initially had a very awkward interaction with the hostess (though it is a stretch to call her that... desk attendant maybe?). she said there was a 45 minute wait but didnt offer to take our name, number etc. said that we just had to sit and wait and that she tracked everything in her head which "worked for her". as you might imagine we werent thrilled with the prospect of just sitting and waiting for almost an hour, but someone in our group explored and found the game room in the back (perhaps the desk attendant should have mentioned that as an option...?!)
we went to play a few games while we waited though the area was overrun with kids and a few of the games were broken (big buck hunter, etc).
we got on a lane about 20 minutes later (so much for her estimated time) and from there enjoyed ourselves. the lane messed up our pins a few times but always to the players advantage ;). and the kids in the lane next to us came over into our space a few times but that is their mom's fault.
overall found the place to be pretty grimy and not well kept. the sofa in the game area was so dirty we didnt even want to put our bags on it much less sit on it. and i couldnt find an 8 lb bowling ball anywhere so had to settle for a 9 lber since my fingers wouldnt fit in the 7 lb ball.
So horrible! Â A total clown show.
We had a group of 16 people come to Lucky Strike last night for drinks and some bowling. Â After arriving and waiting 10 minutes, we headed to our lanes and started setting up the names to bowl. Â We then found out that the "computers were down" and they had to reboot. Â 30 minutes later, still no bowling. Â No worries, we'll just drink and wait it out. Â We then waited for a waitress to come, and watched her completely ignore us for the entire time. Â When we finally asked someone else to send her over, she told us that it was her "first day" (naturally), and asked us some entertaining questions like:
- What is Tanqueray?
- What kind of soda? (When I ordered a vodka and soda)
But she had big boobs, which probably explains why she was hired.
Another 30 minutes goes by and we've gotten exactly one drink and no bowling. Â The lanes came on but we could not keep score. Â Not wanting to re-learn how to keep score on paper, we decided to just throw the balls down the lane until the scoring came back. Â And it never did. Â Finally Lucky Strike just gave up, refunded our money and said "this has never happened before".
Lanes that don't work. Â Balls that are gouged and will rip your fingers. Â Clueless service staff. Â Expensive drinks, when you eventually get them. Â AVOID AVOID AVOID and just go to a bowling alley with cheap beer and Motley Crue playing on the PA.
My wife and teenaged brother-in-law dropped in on a weekday afternoon to kill some time before a movie. There was a 20-minute wait and our names were taken, so we walked around for a bit. Upon our return we were promptly given a lane. The large open space and comfortable/trendy seating provided a compelling atmosphere as we looked forward to our game. Yet as soon as we began, trouble ensued. The electronic scoring system was completely off - we were given credit for strikes/spares no matter how many pins went down. Since we actually wished to keep a real score, I approached an employee for help. While the employee was attentive at first, in the middle of our conversation I was interrupted by another employee, then left standing alone with my mouth open as the two unabashedly walked away from me with no explanation or further concern for my complaint. So I tracked down another employee for help; she eventually had our issue fixed after a 10 minute wait. The rest of our first game went fine. At the end of our second game, the same issue came up again. Then our game cut off entirely during the final frame. The issue was resolved after another 5-10 minute wait.
The technical issues didn't bother me (it happens), but the lack of concern from the staff did. Our time was wasted and we were made to feel like nobody gave a crap, especially after the initial conversation. Would not return.
This place makes bowling feel cool - with well designed lounge and fairly decent food. Â I broke a nice plate there by accident - and give them a very large tip as the staff were really nice about it. Â Cool place and I will go there often to load up the drinks and build up strength in my right forearm.
Review Source:I really like this place. Its a lot of fun to bowl with friends and family in a real cool place. This is much better than a dive bar with a few alleys. Its clean and new. The food is average with drinks slightly high but the overall experience is worth it. Go to this place, lose the the snobby attitude and have a good time.
Review Source:The two 2-star reviews for this place really don't make sense if you read them. The first one says she was disappointed because she was under-dressed, but they DO have a SPECIFIC dress code mentioned on their website. The second one says she had to wait an hour to bowl, but it wasn't very crowded. Huh??
I like this place. It a great idea for an adult birthday party event, guys/girls night out, etc. especially on a friday or saturday night. This place is pretty looking and upscale as you can see from the website. This clearly is not a dive for beer-bellied locals and seniors night bowling leagues.
That being said, I recently chose this place for a birthday event (10 people) on May 7, 2011 and had a couple of complaints.
1) They now do birthday party "packages" at i think $39, $49, and $59pp. I chose the $39pp package since most in my party were non-drinkers. Even though it was unlimited food, I felt like it was the "cheap stuff"....chicken bites AND chicken skewers??? The chicken bites and spinach dips were OK, the chicken skewers were dry and under-seasoned. Also they were a bit unappetizing. I assume they were grilled(?) but they looked almost like they were boiled. The pizza was bland and soggy.
I WOULD HAVE MUCH RATHER PAID FOR THE LANE AND THE SHOES AND ORDERED OFF THE MENU ALA CARTE! I'm not sure if they offer this anymore, but if you are considering going I would definitely advise that you ask!! I KNOW it would have been cheaper and a better experience (since thats what I did when we went about 5 years ago). The couple of items we ordered separately were much tastier. The onion rings were a good choice, for example.
2) If you reserve a party package it includes a MANDATORY 20% gratuity. I've seen mandatory 15-18% tip in some restaurants for large parties, but rarely if ever have I seen mandatory 20%. I just don't like it when you've already tipped via your credit card even before you walk in! And honestly, its not the same level of service as in a restaurant....it was food platters and napkins and soda pitchers with plastic cups. At the $39 level it was an $80 mandatory tip for 10 people, 2 hours of bowling with appetizers!!
3) If you are a true bowler, you may not like this place. I don't think the balls or the lanes are true to "regulation". We had two lanes side-by-side. Maybe it was me, but I couldn't bowl a single strike in the one of the lanes. In the other lane I bowled 3 strikes in a row. And like MOST bowling lanes, its hard to find find a ball with the right weight and fingersize.
Bottom line: Go! Have fun! Bowling with friends is ALWAYS fun....its a little pricey and I recommend NOT doing the package deal if you can.
Okay... so if you're like me -- more specifically if you HAD to go bowling somewhere -- you'd want to go to the most upscale and trendy bowling alley you coud find, right? Â I don't even know how to bowl. Â In other words, I couldn't tell you how to keep score or even keep the ball straight for more then, say ....... 3 feet. Â The holes in the balls were too small and I'm not that much of a fan of sharing shoes with others. Â But, if you HAD to go bowling as a non-bowler are these things going to detract from you having fun and getting drunk while tossing a surprisingly unmasculine 12 lb. pink ball down the lane? Â Of course not, lighten up.
3 stars. Â Pretty good time. Â Nice atmosphere, well-priced drinks.
Went back for my son's 8th bday party. Â We had about 12 guest and played on one lane. Â But only about 7 bowled. Â Anyway, the kids ran around between frames and had fun at the arcade. Â The food was good junk food apps. Â After our lane time was up, we spread out on large banquets and opened gifts and nobody rushed us out. Â A good time.
Review Source:True to our usual form, we came here for happy hour! Â On Tuesdays, they have $1 burgers. Â To our surprise, the $1 burger is really, really good! Â Cheese and fries are 50 cents or 75 cents or something extra but, total, we spent $2.50 or so for a very good cheeseburger and fries, plus there are $3 drink specials on the usual things until 6 p.m. and after 9 p.m.
The decor is nicely done and fun. Â We like the colored lighting, couches, etc. Â It's cool.
Service: The bartender was great and there seemed to be a DJ preparing for... I don't know. Â That's the problem. Â It was 9 p.m. and totally dead. Â I mean, less than 10 people in the whole place, including bowling. Â Buffalo Wild Wings next door had a 30 minute wait (that's why we came). Â Nobody at Lucky Strike seemed to care that they were so dead. Â Somebody needs to do something about that!!
Over priced bowling geared toward teenagers and 20 somethings. They even recommend you don't bring your own ball so real bowlers aren't even that welcome. When they have the lights down with the black lights and the big tvs going (which might be all the time?) you can't even see the arrows on the lane making it a bit hard to judge if you ever use them to gauge your throw. One of the most annoying things here is the douche-bag bouncers outside viciously checking every ones ID, come on its a bowling alley not a swanky night club!
On a positive note they do have some hot waitresses, a clean and large space, and a cool location inside of the Palisades mall by a number of other cool spots like Buffalo Wild Wings, a Movie Theater, Dave and Busters, and a number of other Restaurants that are all open long after the rest of the mall is closed.
Swanky! Â We had my friend's bachelorette party here, and it was so much fun! Â Claudia, the event coordinator, was really helpful with the planning, and always returned my e-mails promptly. Â
We got a package that included bowling, food and open bar. Â It was expensive, but we would've spent that much bowling somewhere else, then going out to dinner and drinks anyway. Â Be warned though, White Russians are not well drinks, and not included in the package!
After bowling, we played pool for a bit and the pool table area is really nice with comfy couches. Â
The only complaint was that the food wasn't that great. Â The chicken skewers were dry, the pizza was horrible, and the chocolate chip cookies were barely cooked. Â But when you have open bar, you really don't care.
I would probably have another event there.
I have to agree with Ryan D! My friend called Lucky Strike "the Ritz Carlton of bowling"!
I had my birthday party here and it was awesome! From the very first phone call Laura and her team were so accommodating. There are different party packages you could choose from which include food and alcohol. It is a little pricey, but much cheaper than it's counterparts in NYC.
Night of, our 3 lanes were roped off so only people in the party could get in, and we had 2 waiters the entire night. After our 2 hours of bowling, everyone stayed to play pool and air hockey. I originally thought 2 hours wouldn't be enough time, but we got two games in, and by that point the bowling nostalgia was wearing off.
Note: It is 21 and up after 8pm.
My friends are still talking about the party 2 months later!
ps: The DJ was fantastic!
This place is a cross between a bar and an over priced bowling alley ($15 a game and shoe rental is $4 a person). Not to mention they have a dress code, we were almost not allowed in because the guy I was with was wearing a white tshirt. Lucky the manager gave us "special" permission. I mean come on....a bowling alley with a dress code!?!? Anyway once we got in we went straight to the bar and ordered drinks. The drinks were pretty good, very strong. We then opted to play a little air hockey before a lane opened up (I won 2 out of 3). Once the lane opened up we bowled three games (I lost 2 out of 3). Overall we had a great time (even though it cost us an arm and a leg).
Review Source:Went here on February 6 with a group of friends. I read the reviews on here so I went in not having high expectations, but I tried to stay positive because I was thinking, how bad could this be right? We got there around 9 and were told that we had to wait at least an hour and a half for a lane because we had no reservations (I've never had to get reservations for bowling ever), and there was a birthday party taking up most of the lanes. I said, ok it's fine, we can eat while we wait.
The food was decent, not too expensive either. The problem came when the check came. We were in a group of 9 so my boyfriend and I asked for a separate check. Our bill came out to $24 and my boyfriend handed the guy a $100 bill. By the time we finished eating, the two lanes opened up so my boyfriend stayed back at the table to wait for his change. He waited almost 20 minutes and came to me to tell me the guy  never came back with the change. We had to look for the waiter, and mind you even though it was a Friday night, it wasn't too busy. When we found him, he said he was going to come back, but he lost our check and didn't know how much we owed. Did this guy really think we were going to leave him a $76 dollar tip? Hell no. So, I felt that was kind of shady so we didn't give a tip. Before you guys think that I'm cheap or whatever, I ALWAYS leave 15% tip, but that didn't sit well with me. The rest of the night, this guy grilled our group while he was talking to his co-worker which annoyed me even more. Another thing was that our two lanes kept messing up so we spent a lot of the time with the technician towards the end of the night.
I would have given this place 1 star but because of the good music and the decent food, I'll be nice. I don't think I'm going back here again.
"It's a birthday celebration!"
"You've GOT to come out! Â This place is AWESOME!"
Lucky Strike was the chosen destination by the birthday boy, a friend of my bf's. Â Talked into going out with all of them, Lucky Strike had been so hyped up by the friend that I was expecting something similar to Dave & Busters, but with lots and lots of bowling. Â Needless to say, I was quite disappointed as soon as we walked through the door. Â
There were about 10 lanes for big ball bowling and 4-6 lanes for candlepin bowling. Â Air hockey and billiards in their own little section. Â But everyone was dressed out for a night on the town! Â I was feeling a lil' underdressed as I was told we were going to bowling and most times, I don't get dressed up to go bowling. Â A simple tee, jeans, and some sneaks (cause you need socks to rent shoes!) usually work well for me. Â But no, they even have a dress code posted before you walk in! Â Thankfully, my sneaks weren't all that athletic looking when covered by my jeans, so I was allowed in. Â Yay. Â A plus side though is that after 9pm is 21+, so you don't have little kids constantly running underfoot. Â And that's most definitely a plus if you make a few trips to the bar and start losing the sharpness in your sight. ;)
For a Saturday night, the place was quiet! Â We were running a bit behind schedule and didn't get to the Palisades Center until about 11-11:30 pm. Â The birthday boy and a few others had arrived hours earlier and we were supposed to meet them. Â Quite surprised when we walked the length of the place searching high and low and couldn't find the rest of our group. Â Guess where they were? Â Next door at Dave & Busters which apparently was more enticing. Â
There's a bar/lounge/restaurant section when you first walk in and judging by the length of the bar, you'd think they were prepared for a Woodstock-sized crowd. Â Unfortunately, there were only about 20 people, IF that, in this area and that's including our group of about 10. Â It took a while to get the bartender's attention - maybe she forgot her binoculars at home and couldn't see us all the way at the other end of the bar. Â Who knows, but I was parched by the time she came around. Â I don't know how hard it is to remember Bacardi Razz & Coke, but it was the tough one of the night. Â The bartender came back to me 3 (THREE) times to be reminded what I wanted mixed with my Bacardi and each time, she managed to bring a mixed drink to all the men around me. Â Yeah, real cool. Â Drinks are a bit on the expensive side, but no more expensive than say The Cheesecake Factory. Â And the food is just as good. Â I only managed a bite here and there from friends plates as I had foolishly filled up on a McDonald's Cheeseburger Happy Meal to get ready to absorb all the alcohol I was planning on consuming. Â Next time.....next time......
One fun activity that they offer at Lucky Strikes is candlepin bowling. Â For those of you who have never heard, candlepin bowling is bowling with smaller/thinner pins with a ball that is less than 3 pounds and doesn't have any holes in it. Â Growing up in Massachusetts, this was the "normal' bowling that we did - big ball bowling was a whole nother ballgame. Â It was because of candlepin that they had originally chose this place as the place to celebrate. Â We never made it over to the candlepin lanes. Â They looked very popular - most of the lanes were occupied the whole time we were there.
Overall, the place is ok. Â In my opinion, it's just a jazzed up bowling alley, but nothing spectacular. Â We could've gone to the local bowling alley where we would've known the bartender and gotten free/discounted drinks all night and had the same experience.
