Disgusting...Anyone comparing M Burger to Shake Shack or In/Out is crazy.  I would eat at almost any fast food joint before going back here.  No way the "M Burger" patties were 1/4 lb as advertised, however they were cold and had a green tint to them.  If it weren't for a slick looking interior and Lettuce PR, this place would be out of business

The chicken burger was probably less than a quarter inch thick as it had been pounded flat, I'm assuming.  Basically it was mostly bun.  And some avocado.

Way overpriced.  It was like a hospital cafeteria chicken sand for $2 which is probably where I should have gotten one since it's across the street.

    Sigh.

In a former (carnivorous) life, I was all about an m burger and fries. Tasty tasty.
True, I no longer have a use for the burger part of the equation, but I still come here way more often than my waistline would like. Why? The fries, the nurse Betty, and those amazingly thick shakes. Chocolate and vanilla are perfect, but I always ask what the monthly flavor is...highlights have included key lime pie (ohmagod) and nutella (obviously amazing). Love.

I really love this place as a cheat lunch. A cheeseburger, shake and fries? Heaven.

The double cheeseburgers aren't that big so if you're hungry I suggest you get a double. Not a lot of variety but I love their signature stuff, and their prices are fair.

This is a great place to grab a quick burger downtown. I don't think it stands out but it's very good.

Friendly staff, but the service is pretty slow.  I'd give them 3 stars for food but they close early all the time.  The sign says open until 9.  Sometimes, I try to get a late night bite around 8:15 or 8:30 and they're already closed.  Change your hours or stay open.  It's unprofessional.

Not much of a burger person, but I really like this place. It's pretty cheap and you can tell it's good quality. I went there on a lunch break with a friend about a month ago and fell in love with their french fries. I need to go back.

Almost as good as In N Out? A friend of mine made that statement, but they're not even in the same ballpark.

They do have a few similarities to the West Coast chain though. They're about the same in size, they have a pretty simple menu, and the staff is always really nice. No where near as good as the crack that is In N Out though.

I do dig how they have additional variety in their menu including sandwiches, salads, and, a hurt burger with spicy bbq sauce. It's worth a visit, but if you've ever lived on the West Coast you know almost nothing compares to In N Out.

I went to M Burger. It was around the street from my  hotel in Chicago (I was vacationing there).  The burger was really good and so were the fries. If I were in Chicago again and needed a fix, I'd go. Overall, A-OK. Didn't try the shake though. Probably should've.

Had the M Burger, was very good.  The fries were a bit on the salty side -- overall the experience was good.

Review based on dipped cones only.

Dipped cones were soooooooo yummy! I love the peanut butter dipped cone better than the coconut. The coconut dipped was a little too sweet for me, while the peanut butter dipped was not~ I would definitely recommend people to try it if you haven't done so!

Just had M Burger for the first time today! Overall, pretty good experience and pretty good food.

The inside is very small and quite cozy, so don't plan on bringing  a huge group of friends to all eat here.

I ordered the natural chicken sandwich (no avocado spread), fries, and the apple cider milkshake. The sandwich was AMAZING. It's little, but it was still very good! One of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had.

On the other hand, the fries were nothing special whatsoever, in fact, I would have loved to have McDonald's fries instead. Their fries here were too crispy, barely salted, and nothing special at all. Disappointing, but the shake was pretty good although SUPER THICK. I took it home and had to add a bit of milk to it myself because I couldn't even get it through the straw.

Overall, I really liked M Burger! They could do a little something different with the fries and maybe make their shakes not as thick, but other then that it was very good. I definitely recommend it if you're a fan of chicken sandwiches!

Ordered the Nurse Betty grilled chicken sandwich with bacon and order of fries.  I was really surprised by taste and quality of the food.  I like this place better than 5 Guys.

    Fries were amazing too!!

I got the spicy barbaque burger and it was tasty. If you like spicy get the hottest level and it's still not even that hot but it's good.

The fries were tasty too. Thin cut and good.

The shake was super thick. The place itself is tiny on the inside. Plenty of seating outside on the street. Oddly there is M burger advertising on the windows next to the place and down the street a little. From the outside you'd think this is big place but then you walk in and it's a hole in the wall literally. Perhaps they are opening a big indoor space that's under construction.

If a place like this diversified it's desert selection I could see M burger is to Chicago as Shake Shack is to NYC. They have a good thing started here.

Best Burger and Fries in Chicago

Love this place. The burgers make me happy. My usual order is the M Burger (bacon, cheese and sauce!), fries and a shake. Bacon makes everything better. The Chicken Betty is also very good if you're not in the mood for beef that day. Avocado!

The fries are of the shoestring variety, tossed in sea salt. The burgers and chicken have a wonderful chargrilled flavor. Good times. Ask what other shakes they have, as they usually have a couple of flavors not listed on the menu.

I live nearby so I usually get my order to go. This location is teeny tiny, but the staff is always very friendly.

M Burger is delicious and has great customer service.  Everyone is always so friendly!

Sometimes, I stop in and ask what the special shake flavor of the month is, just to make sure I don't miss out on something good.

When eating here, you might as go all out and order an M Burger. Mm, bacon...  If you are feeling guilty and want to eat something slightly more "healthy," I suggest getting the Chicken Betty.

Compared to the Huron location, I think this location offers more seating and a newly added dessert selection (i.e. dipped cones, floats, sundaes, etc)

For a small discount, don't forget to show your student ID!

Cheeseburger, fries and a traditional black & white milkshake.

The Old Fashioned is what I chose sans onions...along with a burger's best friend, some fries. The fries were the best part of the meal.  Perfectly crisp and not over salted.  The burger was fine, nothing too amazing, but a good quick lunch. And the hot fudge mixed with the vanilla soft serve brings me back to childhood in an instant.

The place was not busy at all, so the food came real quick and with a smile!  Service was really friendly.  The space is small so it is not ideal for a group.

Might have to return for some of the secret menu items before I leave town.

All I can say about this place is RIP OFF. I can't believe the high reviews Mburger is getting. Think of mburger as a over priced mcdonalds. While the burger here was good it wasn't worth the money. I don't mind spending extra when the food is worth it but that just isn't the case here. The prices are on the same levil as five guys and toms and eddies but the quality isn't even close. The dinning room here is also very cramped. I think they may have seating for 15 if they are lucky. The service when we went was terrable. They were messing up everyones orders and it took them forever to make my shake. I was pretty much done with my lunch by the time I got my shake. Over all not impressed at all.

First thought when I woke up this morning was "I want meat!".  I decided to satisfy that craving with a stop at M Burger on my 4 mile walk home.  I've already tried the location on Huron, where I first fell in love with their cheeseburger and crispy fries.  Took a detour to try the location on Randolph only to walk into the Atrium Mall to find the store closed for the day.  Determined, I walked even more out of my way to stop at the Ontario store.

Thankfully it was open, but empty (it was around 5:30pm).  The staff was friendly and welcoming.  I ordered my usual cheeseburger and fries.  Cheeseburger was good as usual, with their tasty special sauce.  The fries were fresh-from-the-fryer crispy and hot.  They had top 40 pop playing in the background, which added to the fun vibe of the place.  Customers slowly started trickling in for dinner.

Glad I made the two detours to get my meat fix.  Made up for the splurge by walking all the way home.

Decent price, cute little store. There is some seating but not much. I got the Doctor Betty, which was really delicious. I'm a fan of the softer bun and the patty wasn't overcooked at all. I didn't get the fries, which I kind of regret now that I'm writing up this review with such a limited span of things to discuss!

If I ever come again, I'll get something else and the fries and update this! Overall though, seems like a pretty solid burger chain. I gave it 4 stars because I really did enjoy my burger a lot. It wasn't overly greasy or heavy at all!

I'd be interested to see the full list of 'secret items'. I accidentally stumbled on the Doctor Betty, curious to see what else there is!

I will give 3.5 stars for now.

After the hype I saw through the internet I decided to give it a try on the way back from Sprinkle cupcakes.  I got Dr. Betty (the non-veggie version of Nurse Betty), and it was just ok.  Shake was good but not great.  I liked the french fries.  However, I will try this place again and will order the cheese burger to see if it is really comparable to In'n'Out, as some people claim.

I ordered an M Burger (bacon, cheese, and special sauce) and some fries. The burger was okay (nothing mind blowing and the secret sauce tasted like something that's on every burger in Asian fast food restaurants... Strange, but just go with me here) but the fries were seriously lacking. The fries made me feel a bit sick afterward - the grease factor was a bit high.

I get the feeling that this place is trying really, really hard to be like In-n-Out. Except In-n-Out is tastier and probably cheaper.

The good part was that I didn't spend a total fortune on my meal, so I just had a taste of what everyone was going nuts about and was satisfied with what I experienced. Can't say this is the best burger place ever, but next time I think I will just stick to a regular hamburger with no fries.

Was trekking home from school today around lunchtime and decided to swing through for a burger.  I ordered a double M-Burger to go.  The place is tiny, so you might want to expect to take it to-go.  Everything tasted good.  The meat quality was pretty good, along with the quality of the vegetables.  I didn't have the fries, but from what I saw they looked pretty good and crispy, unlike the soggy mess that In-N-Out serves.  There are much better burgers to be found in Chicago, but for the "fast food" formula, it was pretty good.  The girl working the counter was very nice and friendly also.

Definitely a better alternative to a fast food chain for the same price.  Better burger than In-N-Out, which I think if the most overrated place I have ever been to (Loading half an onion and 1000 island dressing doesn't make up for nasty meat).

OK. For $5 you get a pretty decent burger. So I'm really not going to complain. Fries come on the thin side, but are hence, a crispier.

Tips: Menu is basic. Only four burger options, a few side options and a few drink options. This location is tiny. Can probably fit 10 people inside max, so don't plan on staying and eating unless it's empty.

Burgers to try - The burger I had didn't have any special name, and I liked it. My sister had the Hurt Burger. THAT is something worth trying, especially if you want a little more crunch and a little more bite, if you know what I mean.

Firstly, I'll admit that the style of burger served at M Burger isn't my fancy. I prefer the huge 1/2 pounders that barely fit in my mouth that will satisfy my burger craving and give me premature diabetes and hypertension. This place serves those thinner charboiled burgers, and it serves those quite well. I would compare it to the burgers at In-N-Out (for those westerners) and Shake Shack (for those north easterners). If you like those places, you'll enjoy M Burger. The prices are also comparable.

This M Burger location (I don't know if it has more than one location) has a small sitting area inside, and some tables outside which are good for people watching when the weather is good (how often does that happen in Chicago?).

I ordered a regular double burger with fries and a drink. I don't think there was anything super special on the menu. I was not unhappy with my purchase.

Would I come back here? Probably not unless I were ridiculously hungry and in the area. I just think there are better things, and burgers, worth using my daily caloric allowance on.

Oh, if you're from California like I am and you're craving In-N-Out, you may want to check this place out. Similar burgers, but note that it has different style fries and no animal-style sauce.

The cashier: friendly, fast and courteous
The burger: juicy, filling and fresh
The fries: thin, crisp and not-too-hot
The lemonade: like momma used to make
    The price: not too bad

All in all, I was very pleased with M Burger. For a quick bite that'll tide you over but not leave you with a major food baby, it's perfection.

One minor gripe: I asked for no veggies and they gave me veggies. All was corrected when I brought it to their attention, though, so no hard feelings.

Fast. Tasty. Reasonably priced. This satisfies most of my requirements.

But I also like their business model. Small but highly efficient. They put their own top spin on a traditional item - I had the Hurt Burger #2 which had just the right level of heat with the jalapenos but not tooo much.

The people at this location were about as nice as could be. And a thousand times better than those places with golden arches or kings wearning crowns.

I encourage you to go there if you have never been.

An M Burger fanboy brought me here for lunch on a recent weekend stay in Chicago. After reading some of the Yelp reviews, I was a little skeptical, but I had a great M Burger experience.

I ordered a double Hurt Burger (a burger with spicy BBQ sauce and jalapeños). The young lady behind the counter asked "How hurt do you want to be?" and offered 3 levels of hurt. I went for the middle level and received a burger with a few fresh jalapeños on top. The flavor was good, although it was pretty tame for a "second degree hurt." If we go back I may try the third degree, we'll see.

My wife got the M Burger and she enjoyed it. The fries are good. The lemonade was very good.

M Burger may not have been the best burger I've ever had, but it was a good choice for lunch for local flavor near tourist traps like Rain Forest Cafe and fast food joints like the Rock n Roll McDonald's. My fanboy friend picked a good place to be a fan of.

I've tried... I've skipped and just retried again, giving a shot to the "Hurt Burger, 2nd Degree". Not particularly "hurty" and not particularly HOT (as in physical temperature) either.

It's a perfectly decent burger, but I'm not paying around $11 (total for my meal) for something "perfectly decent", I can save a few bucks and get perfectly decent at MickyD's or Wendy's.

    Fries and shakes are solid.

The burgers just don't have a very good sear on them, not well seasoned and the "Hurt" is kinda whimpy. I'm not sure if I want to writhe on the ground like Ralph Wiggam and exclaim: Tastes Like Burning... But at least kick in a dose of endorphins.

The burger isn't worth returning to for experiencing "The 3rd degree".

Service is quick and very friendly.

Worst shake I've had in years: chalky, fake chocolate flavor, not creamy whatsoever. After 4 ounces I threw it in the trash and saved those calories for beer.

I added one star for the cheap price and friendly service.

M Burger is a solid choice for a fast food lunch. It's nice to see LEYE adding more casual service options to their empire. I loves my frequent loser points (especially this time of year when they mail you the scratch-off cards for double points).

Their menu is small, obviously focused on burgers, but they have a chicken sandwich and a salad as well. I don't know why anyone would come here for a salad, but it's nice that they offer it.

Their style of burgers and fries seems to be modeled after In and Out, whether that's intentional or not, I have no idea. What I mean by that, is that the patties are thin and they slop some secret sauce on (if you're so inclined, I was not).

The burger is fine. It's nothing to get excited about. While I was not as impressed by the fries as some other reviewers, it may have been due to the fact that I didn't get to eat them right away (and really, there are no fries in the world that are still good after sitting around for twenty minutes) so I'll reserve judgment until I try them again.

Shakes have a good consistency, neither too thin nor too thick, and let's be honest, it's the consistency and texture that can make or break a shake. I've tried both the chocolate and the strawberry versions, and the chocolate is a little too chocolaty for me, but the strawberry is pretty darn good.

Service is friendly too. I'll go back if I'm in the area, have a yen for that kind of burger, or just need to get to the next threshold of points on my frequent diner card (so I can spend it all at Joe's!).

From the vantage point of this corner, you have McDonald's, Portillo's, and M Burger. While it sounds like 3 solid choices, it's really just 1 if your aim is to avoid the tourist trap, get in and get out, and chow down a good burger in under 5 minutes.

I debated between a Nurse Betty which has no meat, but marinated tomatoes, avocado, and cheese. Then, I realized I was in burger joint so I ponied up and splurged on the patty.

The cheeseburger, which came in a little envelope, was definitely not  enough if you've got an appetite and want to throw down, but it didn't soak the bun in grease and came with a tasteful, tangy "special sauce."

My advice? Splurge for the double and don't forget the strawberry shake, which more than lived up to the hype.

Note that there really isn't much in the way of "seating" - just a couple makeshift benches and counters built into the wall. The place is set up to encourage "fast" food....so think again about taking a date or having a business meeting here.

Okay, I've been to the Streeterville M Burger two or three times, and now I've been to the River North location.  I now think I can make a more definitive call on how M Burger rates compared to the other big fast food burger guys.

I would place M Burger's burger in third place behind Portillo's and Five Guys.

I would place M Burger's fries in first place way ahead of Portillo's notoriously lame crinkle fries and Five Guys' too undercooked on the inside fries.

And I'd definitely recommend the shakes.  Quality.

Just because something is dressed in all black doesn't necessarily mean it's cooler or better than anything else.

    It's 3 1/2 stars.

I'm going to need to go back to M Burger. My friend and I completely failed here and I ended up ordering something and it just being okay. I'm holding out hope that when I go back it will be better.

Cashier looks at Sarah with no words.
Sarah: Hi, Can I order from the secret menu?
Cashier looks at Sarah again and after about 5 awkward seconds says, do you know what's on the secret menu?
Sarah: No, sorry, what are my options?
Cashier: Grilled cheese, Chicken Sandwich and somethingelseicantremember.
Sarah only heard grilled cheese and she seemed annoyed I didn't know what was on the secret menu so didn't ask her to repeat it: Grilled cheese and chocolate shake, please.

It just didn't go well ordering from the secret menu and I ended up with a grilled cheese from M Burger. I need to go back to try their actual burger. The grilled cheese was just alright packed with cheese but not overly flavorful. It was comparative to what I would whip up at home. M Burger fail on my part.

I also tried the chocolate shake which was good but again nothing spectacular. I need to go back and try the friggin' burger! But to all others, I do not recommend the grilled cheese. :)

So after getting lost for hours walking around in the Loop, I was getting pretty hungry and I'd been craving hamburgers for some time. I didn't want to stop at some comercial burger place, I wanted "made at home" burgers that I'd been missing from living with my mom.

So I walked to M Burger and thought I'd try it out. The whole way there I was wondering if it was M Burger (like Mc Burger without the C) or if it was Mmmm Burger because of its deliciousness.

From the outside it looks like it's much bigger than it actually is, but it's just a tiny place with odd benches and a really simple menu. I got the M Burger of course and asked the exact pronounciation of the name.
He said "It's M Burger but it's Mmmm good, right?" and it was.
The bacon is really thick and tastes kind of sweet, the special sause had a good taste, and I was satistisfied with that and fries. I was even tempted to get another order, but I'll surely come back!

Being from LA this is the closest thing to In-N-Out Burger I'll have in Chicago.

I like the simple menu they have @ M Burger. I've had the M Burger which has bacon & cheese on it & today I went w/ a secret menu option..the "Dr. Betty" it has everything that comes on the Nurse Betty Burger which is a vegetarian option but for the Dr. option they throw in a patty of meat. I also added grilled onions & it was pretty damn tasty.

We also called ahead for  pick-up...2 burgers, 2 fries & 2 sodas for under $20, me likey.

I'm always down to try a new burger place and I was looking for a quick dinner in the area, so M Burger fit the bill.  This place is literally a hole in the wall, with minimal seating inside and some outdoor seating.  Plus they also deliver, which is nice.

Their menu is short and simple, with burgers, chicken & veggie sandwiches, fries, and shakes.  I tried their signature M burger, which is topped with bacon, cheese, and their special sauce.  It was a solid burger, with thin beef patties with crispy edges that I love.  I recommend getting the double patty, as it's just the right amount of beef.  I'll probably give the Hurt Burger a try next time, which is off their secret menu.  Just ask and they'll fill you in.

The fries were hot and crispy, but were a big tough like they'd been sitting for a bit.  I'm sure I would've enjoyed them a lot more if they were freshly fried.  Their current off-menu shake flavor was pineapple coconut and was a bit bummed they didn't have the nutella shake.  I went with the strawberry shake, which was just okay... maybe a bit too sweet.

The service was super friendly, the food came out right away, and the prices were very reasonable.

My husband is obsessed with this place. He works downtown so he comes here for lunch frequently. I have had the burgers here a couple times and I agree with my husband, they are some of the best in Chicago (I love 5 Guys but I like M Burger better). The fries are excellent- they are thin and just the right level of crispy without being over-crisp.

What I really want to stress here though is just how excellent the chicken sandwich and shakes are.

The chicken sandwich is on the small side, not a bad thing when you wash it down with a shake. The organic chicken breast is perfectly and subtly seasoned with no gristly bits. The bun is buttered and toasted and spread with a guacamole spread. This is DELICIOUS people! Try it!

Now, the shakes. The last time we went to M Burger it was a Saturday or Sunday afternoon and the special shake of the month was a hazelnut/chocolate shake made with nutella. I wanted to try this but they said they would need about 10 minutes to mix up a new batch. I didn't think we'd have time so I got a strawberry shake instead. My husband gets an "old fashioned" chocolate shake- a vanilla shake with chocolate syrup mixed into it in an old milkshake mixer- yum! We were enjoying our delicious sandwiches and shakes when one of the employees brought a free hazelnut shake for me. They felt bad that they didn't have them ready when I first came in and wanted me to try one. Great customer service! My husband and I split it (read: he got a few sips and I ended up drinking 2 shakes) and it was also delicious.

There isn't a lot of seating, this is better as a take out place, but people do tend to turn over quickly.

p.s. This is Lettuce Entertain You restaurant- if you have a frequent diner card you can rack up points here.
