I ordered:
Beet and Avocado Salad
Roasted Baby Beets tossed with Balsamic Vinaigrette
& Roasted Pistachios - 12
Perfect salad, not drowning in dressing, and just the right amount of everything. I'm a big fan of roasted pistachios, so good job guys.
For dinner I ordered:
Steak Frites
8oz USDA Prime Cut Filet - 30
Had it medium, and it was pretty good. The fries were too salty, but I still finished the whole darned plate of 'em.
After this recent meal, I don't even remember what I used to order from here....the salmon looked good, but I heard the kale way way too salty as well.
If anything, just tell the waiter to tell the chef to ease up on the salt?
We went here before we went to see a film at the Arclight, and I feel its one of the better places to eat that is walking distance from the theater...its not so bad! :)
Happy eating.
Sooo we were looking for a spot to go to for dinner before catching out movie at arclight. First let me start by parking... although it is not on magnolia to provide parking. Parking is kind of horrendous in this area. But what do you expect, it's hollywood right? Anyways, I found a metered spot across the street, and it was only 1 hour maximum. We were seated because we had a prior reservation, which was nice. It was still early so it wasn't too crowded yet. The reason why I picked to come here, was because I had been to the Magnolia location in Pasadena, and I really liked it so I wanted to try this place out. I ordered the cheese and fruit plate which was $15... for 3 pieces of minature cheese with 3 crackers and some grapes... hmm... quite different from the other location which gives you a lot more for your money.
For my main I ordered the turkey burger. I found it to be very dry and flavorless. There was no mayo or ketchup on it whatsoever. I'm not really impressed by this location. Additionally, I'm pretty sure I saw the manager or owner walking around the restaurant/bar area wearing sweat pants and a old ragged t-shirt... I don't mean to judge but I thought if you're management you should probably be better dressed and more professional. The wait staff was okay, I felt tossed to the side maybe because we were just trying to get our dinner and get out to our movie.
Overall, I don't think I'll be coming back here. I would prefer to go to the pasadena location.
Magnolia has become another victim of the recession...3 or so years ago, I would have easily given the joint 5 stars for being the best spot for late night dining in Hollywood, as well as for its pomegranate mojito! The spot screamed LA chic....located on Sunset, chic decor, trendy crowd, it was quintessentially LA! The perfect spot to go, have a drink, talk, people watch. It was one of the few places which  actually earned its rep, rather than just being the product of paid for marketing hype!
But my how times change and what a drastic difference a few short years make. Much like a Vegas party girl, Magnolia hasn't aged well in quite a short stretch of time... Prices have gone up, the quality has gone down, and the crowds have down scaled accordingly.
Seedy area, but once you get passed the crackhead with the bleeding track mark the experience is decent.
The dishes are acceptable. Kale was lacking in flavor. Dessert menu tasted out of a box good. Salmon was tasty. Spinach was flavorful. For some reason water is served room temperature (might be a hipster thing) and asking for ice is shunned upon.
A large cockroach attacked our party as we were getting ready to leave and I'm hoping it wandered in from Sunset and wasn't on its way to join the rest of the fam bam back in the kitchen.
A friend visiting from New York knew the owner and took me here. I can't believe I didn't know this place sooner. It is very chill. We went on a week night so it may be very different on wknds. Sat outdoors and enjoyed our wine and appetizers. Foods good. Service was great- I'm sure knowing the owner made a little bit of difference. I'll be going back for sure
Review Source:I like Magnolia. It has a nice chill atmosphere, and while it's not the cheapest place, it certainly is nice enough to warrant the $10 glass of wine to enjoy a pleasant and relaxing night out with your girl friends (which was what I needed, after a harrowing movie night watching "Spring Breakers"... don't ask.) The sweet potato fries were nice, crisp, and copious, and I enjoyed the artichoke, though honestly, it's hard to mess up an artichoke... so that was a given. I got the scallops with risotto and kale (subbed in), which really hit the spot. They were perfectly cooked, risotto was savory and creamy, and the kale was cooked spot on. Friends got mac and cheese (I don't care for the smoky type, but it was nice and creamy) and the steak, which was gorgeous.
Definitely a good destination for date night, you can cozy up here and look like you've got good taste.
I loved it here! I came here on a sun night. It wasn't busy at all. The service was great. We opted for a seat outside because I had my dog with me. They immediately asked if my dog needed water and provided a bowl. My friend and I ordered the pappardelle bolognese and the organic chicken sandwich. Both were absolutely delicious! For dessert we went for the key lime pie which wasn't tooooo tart and just perfect! The crust is really thin. All in all, we had a good time and I would definitely come back!
Review Source:This is one of my favorite restaurants in LA, and I'm so glad its right by my house. The Ahi tuna with wasabi mashed potatoes are to die for, and I find myself only ordering that every time I go. Â Although, my friends/dates have ordered other things, so I know that their other food is good. Â
Their cocktails are great, and the service has always been just as good. I have came here 2 years in a row to celebrate my bday with a date.
I hope this place never closes.
I took my boyfriend here for dinner and drinks at 5pm on a Friday night before enjoying the show at The Pantages. Â We both noticed the place was deserted but since it was so early, we weren't alarmed. Â
We were seated toward the back behind the bar across from the only other people in the restaurant. Â My first thought was that our server was going to make a nice tip since she only had possibly two tables and would be able to take her time with each (at least this used to be the time when I would make the best tips as a server). Â
I am just going to explain everything she did without the fancy details or personal input:
Right after we were seating, we were immediately asked by our server, "What would you like to drink?" Â Since I wanted to glance at the menu to see if there were any specialty drinks, I asked to please have a few more minutes. Â She returned momentarily and took our drink order without a single greeting, smile, or introduction. Â After she put down the drinks in front of us she asked "Do you want to start with an appetizer?" Â In an attempt to start a conversation, my boyfriend asked which appetizer out of two she preferred and she replied "they're both good." Â We ended up choosing the calamari, which was basic but fine and then ordered our food when asked, "What would you like to eat?" without any overview, recommendation or mention of specials. Â I politely asked for a side of olive oil after she didn't check back on us once and gratefully thanked her without a reply in return. Â She left our dishes on the table for a very long time without clearing them, but I understand as she was busy being a great server with the table next to us. Â She greeted them, smiled, made jokes and conversation and even went over a daily special.
Dessert went on as to be expected, she asked if we wanted it and we ended up choosing one. Â
The food: Mediocre, but not bad. Â The hamburger was cooked perfectly at least. Â
Honestly, I don't know what the issue was with the service. Â We went out of our way to be nice because I understand how it feels to serve rude guests. Â I also know how it is to have a bad day in the food industry, but not even the bare minimum expectations were met.
I'm a fan of quaint, stylish and delicious things. Yes.. Magnolia consists of all these things. Friendly staff and portions good for small and big parties. My friend and I shared a few plates such as the string bean salad which was a great combination of sweet and tangy.
Be sure that I'll be back to try the bigger portions. You wait and see..
My boyfriend took me here for one of our first dates. It was great. The food was delicious. We sat outside by the heated lamps and sat at a little table with a candle. It was pretty quiet when we went and we enjoyed it. It was very romantic. We've gone several times after that and its still great in my book.
The service could be a little better, we were waiting a while till they picked our check and my boyfriend ended up going over to the hostess to have it paid.
It was a great date :)
We basically only stopped in here because it's close to the Palladium, but I am really glad we did! Our server was fast and nice and made sure to tell us the specials - good thing, because I ended up getting one of them. The place has a nice vibe, sort of a loungy but also fine restaurant (but not too fine) feel.
My mom absolutely loved the steak-frites, and I tried the short rib special, which was AMAZING. We started with the grilled artichoke, which you can't go wrong with, and it came with a decent homemade aioli.
My only complaint would be the fact that their tap water tasted NASTY. They need to clean whatever beverage gun or faucet that it came out of because I couldn't drink it.
Great spot for a late night din with hip peeps. Their drinks are tasty, but nothing amazing. I enjoyed the magnolia salad, mac and cheese and beef sandwich, but everything else was just so-so. The prices are pretty steep for how basic the options are...
Shoulda' got the mint chip dessert, dammit!
Went here for our New Year's Eve celebration (party of six) after checking out the Prix Fixe menu online ($55 for three courses, plus soup, plus a champagne toast = amazing deal!!). Â While I can't vouch for how this place rates for a normal dinner out, their New Year's Eve dinner and celebration were great. Â The place was decked out with NYE ballons, hats, crowns, etc (very festive!), of which we took full advantage. Â Fabulous way to ring in the new year.
We had an 8:30 reservation, but ended up not being seated until after 9:00, which was obviously a little frustrating, but we enjoyed drinks in the lounge while waiting for our table (the Strawberry Fields concoction was a fun spin on some bubbly). Â
Magnolia was very busy for NYE, so the service was a little slow, but all the waitstaff were very friendly and in good spirits, which was appreciated.
Since it was a Prix Fixe menu night, they would not make ANY modifications to the menu items (including putting croutons on the side for the soup, or dressing on the side for the salad), which seemed a little strict, but we all still enjoyed our choices spendidly. Â
The expresso creme brulee was a little too heavy on the expresso, so I would not recommend that dessert if it is on their regular menu.
Seems like a fun place to check out pre-movie/theatre, and may be back for at least a drink or two next time we're in LA.
Overall we had a very nice experience. The host was pleasant and seated us immediately. The menu is varied and has choices for almost anyone. The service was efficient and the food was good.
The only criticism was the waiter seemed more interested in chatting with the women at the next table. I suppose I don't blame him, but it would have been nice if he had showed us any amount of personality.
I would definitely return.
I had a good experience here. I love the decor, spaciousness, mood lighting & nice quality furniture.
Good comfort food.
I ordered Seared Ahi Tuna with wasabi mashed potatoes. It came with spinach salad that had an amazing dressing. The sauce on the tuna was good too & the wasabi mashed potatoes were  balanced well.
Dessert - Salted caramel ice cream cookie sandwitch that had delectable homemade crispy buttery salted cookies with chunks of chocolate chips sandwiched between was dense, silky luscious caramel ice cream.
Also ordered the KEY LIME PIE which was out of this world!!!!!Perfect graham base, glossy, silky thick lime filling that had a heavenly perfume topped with real cream. The key lime pie was 5 stars!!!
My girlfriend lives up the street, upon first glance Magnolia seemed to be a nice enough place. No tourists, a couple people having a quiet drink. So we popped in for a quick glass of wine after a show on a Tuesday night. Â The bartender was friendly, the ambience was ok. But two glasses of "house" Au Bon Climat Pino Noir set up back $32... I mean come on, $16 for a glass of ok wine on a Tuesday night? That's just silly. There are a million small quiet places in the vicinity, we'll keep looking for our favorite.
Review Source:I love their Market Vegetable Plate - it's both healthy and tasty!
They also make good wine recommendations and overall they are nice and attentive to detail.
There is a small patio outside, which I like because it's a little quieter for a nice conversation. Â
I've been here a few times, and everyone seems to leave happy.
The crab cakes were really good, but if you don't like celery don't get it! The Salmon was a little bland, but pretty healthy which is a good choice if you are on a diet, its not saucy or greasy. It came with sauteed Kale, a little bitter, but Kale is bitter. I had one cocktail, I think it was called the Brisk?, it had a cucumber in it and chili, it had a hot aftertaste... pretty cool and very strong!!
I sat across from Anna Kendrick tonight, pretty cool!
I wasn't sure what to expect after reading the reviews, but the on line menu looked good and we needed someplace to eat before Book of Mormon at the Pantages. Plus we like to try new places.
I thought the food was excellent. Â I had the Chicken Parmesan special, of which I ate every last bite. Â Pasta usually fills me up quickly, but this didn't for some reason. Â We then had the Chocolate Chip Mint Ice Cream Sandwich which I enjoyed. Â I'm not sure if the cookies were made in house or not, but they were really good.
The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is the service. Â They were ultra polite and friendly, we just had to constantly flag someone down when we needed something. Â They are not speedy, but it's not a quick service restaurant and we had plenty of time before the show, so that didn't bother me.
Pricey? Â Yeah, a little. Â Not quite your Ruth Chris Steakhouse pricey, but on the high end. Â I will say this, the presentation of the food was outstanding. Â The ambiance was also very nice (we sat inside).
Would I go back? Â Maybe, if I wanted to splurge before a show, but we made a list of a couple other places we want to try next time we see a show.
Grilled artichoke was delicious! This was my first time having artichoke and I don't know why I've waited all this time, that thing is amazing. Esp the heart.
Ambiance is great. Low lights and a modern decor, perfect for a casual dinner date.
The chicken sandwich with french fries I shared was pretty good. It was missing a little pezzaz, but it was still good.
After taking a bite of my fries I immediately regretted not getting the sweet potato fries.
They were thin and mostly tasted like the oil that they were fried in.
I didnt get dessert but the dessert at the table next to me looked amazing. I just couldnt fit anything else in my stomach after that sandwich/artichoke.
Not so sure about Magnolia any longer - it's been quite sometime since I've dined here, until today. The prices have gone UP and the quality of food has gone DOWN, WAY down.
Water was disgusting! C'mon people my Brita taste better than this crap - is it the ice, no filter or what??? DO NOT order anything besides bottled! I would feel guilty even allowing a dog to drink it. Taste as though they fished it right out of their toilet.
No espresso machine. I must have forgot about that and the coffee was god awful.
Appetizers: calamari and mac and cheese were borderline just plain bad!
Cobb salad was ok.
Dessert wasn't so great - key lime pie and ice cream cookie sandwich.
I won't be rushing back here anytime soon - in fact if it's suggested that we stop in here, I'll more than likely politely decline.
With Tender Greens and Fabiolous on the same block, there is absolutely no reason to waste your time and money here.
Unless... you are looking for a little bit of privacy - in that case they do have a small non disclosed patio, but the back patios at a couple other spots on the block are much nicer.
Service was fine but a bit slow, considering there were very few people there.
Just went to dinner here for date night with my BF. He really likes seared ahi tuna, so when I read the reviews on yelp I thought this would be great...and I was right. the seared ahi with wasabi mashed potatoes and spinach was great! the mashed potatoes were perfectly whipped and flavorful and the spinach was fresh and perfectly steamed. The pan seared scallops with parmesan risotto, also great! We would have licked the plates but we just scraped everything off instead. We also shared the arugula salad with mushroom and parmesan and it was so good!! It had a light lemon vinaigrette that was perfect! I ordered a grape collins...muddled grapes and vodka with some soda...very light and refreshing. For dessert we ordered the mint ice cream chocolate chip cookie sandwich!!! Seriously delicious!! I wanted to order another one but decided against it because I had already been so bad!! :)
Point is:
Nice romantic ambience
Excellent food
Good service
A+++
I took my family, who was visiting from out of town, here for dinner on someone's recommendation. We were all very disappointed. I guess when we walked in and it was almost empty, that should have tipped us off.
We started with the hummus dip, which was bland and did not taste anything like hummus. Two of us ordered the fried chicken (the special that night). The chicken was nothing to write home about. I think their biggest mistake was that the chicken didn't have skin. How you gonna make good fried chicken with no skin?!? It also came with macaroni & cheese casserole, which was dry and bland. I ordered a different chicken dish...the chicken was okay but it came with brussels sprouts which came out burned the first time, so I sent them back, and the second time they were burned again, this time with somehow an even nastier taste. Another guy got the steak frites, and he was not happy with it...I think he said the meat quality was bad. All this and the food was not cheap!
Oh and it was very loud, even with only three tables filled. Apparently they bought into this trend of tiling the walls with ceramic tiles, which makes noise reverberate like crazy.
I don't expect this place to be open for much longer.
This place is great for date night or for a special occasion. It's pretty pricey but quite impressive from its decors, services, and fancy selection of entrees.
I started with the artichoke which was delicious but the dipping sauce was a little heavy. Next came the herb roasted jidori chicken which was a bit salty but the yukon mashed potatoes complimented that, along with seasoned brussel sprouts. I realized I'm not a fan of the dense flourless chocolate cake or the unsweetened cream that came with it but the salted carmel ice cream was a nice surprise. I didn't care for it until after a couple of spoonfuls.
Gorgeous crystal chandeliers, thick padded seats, and dim lighting made this place feel romantic and intimate. The classic rock music they played seemed to clash with the ambience but I like classic rock.
I came here with a group of four of us just before watching Wicked on a sunday night. The restaurant was quiet and we were able to order right away
I ordered a cobb salad and my gf ordered the beet salad. The boys ordered a burger each.
They brought the burgers out with no cheese that they ordered then when the burger came back the bun was cold. The waitress was always no where to be found when we wanted to order more drinks. It was not a pleasant experience.
I will not be back.
A minimalist, post-modern chic space that is warmed by  extensive wooden flooring throughout the restaurant.  With all the hard surfaces, it was surprisingly quiet inside although the restaurant was no means full since it was about 7:30pm on a Monday night.
Our wine/food group came here specifically on a Monday since they serve a fried chicken meal with the fixin's for $19. Â I assume the chicken was brined since the meat came out moist and the coating was crisp with a slight touch of seasoning that could have come from out of a crawfish boil mix. Â It was a decent rendition of Southern fried chicken. Â (I keep hearing about Miss Peaches for fried chicken, but it seems as though it won't win any interior design awards.)
I didn't like the taste of the Abita Light beer, although other beers by Abita are good, Â so I ordered one of my favorite beers which I tasted in Germany called Koelsch. Â The Reissdorf Koelsch was rich, smooth, slightly heavy & yeasty with a clean taste of hops. It was a great pairing with the fried chicken meal.
The greens were lightly parboiled to retain its intense natural green and oil was added to add a sheen. (I'm so used to seeing greens over cooked to death, this was a nice touch.) Â The mashed pototoes with a light chicken stock gravy was not very noteworthy, but they also give you a huge portion of macaroni and cheese that was ok. Â Since I couldn't eat it all, I decided to take the mac & cheese home so I can drizzle black truffle oil and add chopped onions and ruccola greens for next day's lunch. Â Add in a glass of Vin Jaune and voila, an elegant mid day repast.
I ordered dessert which was  Mousse de Chocolat.  The taste was fine, but the texture was very dry and was too hard for a mousse which should be creamy and soft.  At $9 this was the low point in the meal.  Also, a small piece of cornbread would have been a nice touch, especially since they already had a small container of honey  next to the chicken. Â
If you're young, hip, not too picky about what you eat, Magnolia is a good place to hang out.
Came here for dinner and drinks. Â It was super easy to make a reservation. Â I arrived early so they let me wait at the bar. Â The bartenders were very nice and the drinks were strong.
Food was awesome! Â I loved the Seared Ahi Tuna and Wasabi Potatoes! Yummm! Can't wait to go again!
Our dinner was a horrible event. I felt like our waitress wasn't really at all helpful and didn't really care to be at her job. Came here on a Sunday night right before watching our wicked show.
We ordered two salads and two burgers for a party of four. The girls had the salad and the boys had the burgers. When we got our food. The burgers did not come with the cheese that they ordered. It came with nothing except for the meat and the bun with the veggies.
So we told our waitress and she said they would fix it. Ok no problem, the issue is when they got back the burger they used the same bum which was already cold to begin with! Uhhh we are paying for this aren't we?? But I guess they didn't really care.
Salads well I ordered a beet salad and it came with loads of beets but not a lot of greens! Not what I thought Magnolia was suppose to be...a disappointing dinner.
Wanting to have the complete Hollywood experience, we decided to have dinner at Magnolia before watching Wicked at Pantages. Magnolia is about 2-3 blocks away, 7-10 minutes walking. The ambiance of the restaurant was perfect for a preshow meal (loungey, not feeling out of place wearing dressy attire, & comfortable enough to idle a bit after dinner) and I loved the decor of the restaurant. We made reservations and told our server that we were catching a show to ensure our meal would be finished by a timely manner.
Surprisingly, you can get away with a nice meal without spending a fortune. Their burgers, sandwiches and salad range from a very reasonable $10-$15. We tried their calamari and shared an ABLT sandwich w/sweet potatoes fries (we didn't order that much food because we weren't super hungry & didn't want to take leftovers into the theater). The sandwich was toasted and came with a MOUNTAIN of fries (normally it comes with a side salad, but we subbed in fries - no charge). Our food also came out super quick (granted, sandwiches and calamari isn't going to take too long to make) and we appreciated our server's attention to time and the great service he provided.
I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but if I was in the area, this place would definitely be on my radar for a return visit.
I am not a chicken when it comes to turkey burgers. I will pretty much dive straight into any patty that is put in front of me, but I especially enjoy it when it's a juicy, seasoned one with some kind of salty-esque aftertaste and dripping in accoutrements! The turkey burger at Magnolia was all that and a heaping of French fries! I had gone on a hike earlier, so this protein power lunch really gave me that boost of energy I needed to tackle more of the day. I felt good and my mouth and body were content!
And yeah, there were celebs there too.
I'd only ever been here for drinks after dark and didn't even realize it was open for lunch until last week when Katie B suggested it. Apparently I wasn't the only one because the place was nearly deserted at noon on a Friday, though it did start filling up by the time we left.
We took a seat in the peaceful back patio, which doesn't offer much of a view but is nice when it's warm out. After the waiter told me that the beet and avocado salad was more of an appetizer size than an entree, I went with the day's special, an absolutely delicious seared ahi sandwich with ginger. The ginger made it a bit sweet but once I took it out it was perfect. I ordered the Caesar on the side, and I found it fresh and tasty - not too bland, a bit fishy in the dressing like I like it!
Magnolia is also apparently a celeb hub during the day, probably because it's so low traffic. We saw at least three b-list celebs, so if you're into that kind of thing head over there!
Finally, our waiter was perfectly polite and cute and added to our pleasant lunch. I'd definitely suggest it next time I'm in the area!
Magnolia is the kind of place I would normally fall in love with and if you could put a ring on a restaurant, I would. The decor is just that awesome.
However, much like any relationship, there are pitfalls. Yes, it's pretty. But listen...do you hear that? No, you can't hear me because it's almost unbearably loud inside. For a dimly lit restaurant, I expected a little bit more sedate crowd. I could hear the women from across the room clear as a bell.
We were seated right behind the bar. I spent many minutes thinking about how to best go about securing the unopened Hangar One Mandarin bottle. Cocktails did look really good though (average price was $10-$14) but after having $4 happy hour drinks across the street, we decided to stick with our water and soft drinks.
The baked mac and cheese at our neighboring table looked really good. The tables are so close together, we could have practically nabbed a bite or two just by reaching over. But we didn't and ordered our own dish. Hm, it looked better than it tasted. I never salt my food but I had to add salt and pepper to the noodles to bring out the natural saltiness of the cheese!
After looking over the menu, I decided I am never going to spend more than $8 on a salad and their $10-$14 salads seemed outrageously overpriced. Sandwiches were $9-$14. The gay boyfriend got the $10 ham and swiss. He really liked it and the accompanying onion rings.
No, if I'm going to plunk down some dough, I'm going to order the $24 braised short ribs. Beautiful presentation with the microgreens but again, it was lacking in flavor. I had to toss on some salt from the tiny shaker. I really shouldn't have to add salt to this. And then the short ribs were dried out. I did like the sweet potato mash (I exchanged this from the mashed potatoes it normally came with) though.
Did I mention the unbearable wait where I contemplated alcohol poisoning while waiting for the entrees? What took them that long to get out our meals? First, they brought out the wrong appetizer and told us the mac and cheese would be right out. No, it came about 15 minutes later. Then we waited about 30 minutes for our actual meals. We had 7 p.m. reservations and didn't leave until almost 9 p.m.
Valet is available for Magnolia and the neighboring Fabiolus and Bowery restaurants but I didn't have a problem parking on the street as it was Sunday evening.
I might come back but I would have a hard time deciding what to order.
Want a no brainer for casual, yummy eats in a cozy chic environment? This is the place to go in Hollywood.
Mom was in town for New Years and was walking around Pasadena all day, called and wanted to meet me for dinner with her friend but was worried cause they were dressed really casually. No worries. I needed to find a restaurant close by home that was casual but also offered some good, well rounded American selections that everyone would be happy eating. After all mom's friend was a semi picky eater who loves American food. I knew that Magnolia would be a perfect choice and fit the bill as a chic, cool place to eat so we met them there at 6:30 tonight.
I know it sounds really early, as in old people early, but I got to tell you, the place was hopping at 6:30. Maybe it's the New Years holiday and everyone's off work early but man oh man it was busy in there. Â Luckily we got a nice corner table in the back and started with drinks and appetizers. Â One mac n cheese, a Tuna tar tar and 2 martinis later (one chocolate and the other dirty), we were ready to order our main courses. One note, you can't go wrong on either appetizer, both were great!
For dinner we had a variety of dishes: Mahi mahi for me with rice accompanied by a lobster sauce; seared scallops for Linden; steak for mom's friend and a steak sammy with salad for mom. Everyone seemed happy and satisfied. My dish was a bit salty though and starchy and I wound up leaving more than half of it on the plate. I tried some of Linden's scallops and knew he ordered better than me - damn! He always does that. For dessert it was a chocolate brownie topped with ice cream. Wow, it smelled and tasted amazing...that's all I'm saying.
This place is nice for a date night as the bar is sexy and they have a nice waiting area for a drink but also good for large groups as well. Bummer that valet parking is $7.00 though.
I had my surprise birthday dinner here last night!!!!! Thanks to all the sexy mofos that came out. *kisses!
Sneaky little bastards! Lying to me. hahahaha. I was so ecstatic to see everyone though!!!
Place itself:
Very chill.
Nice.
Good service.
Our waitress looked like Mona - Ross' gf from Friends? No one knows who she is apparently!!!! :P
Good food.
No issues overall except for the brownie/chocolate cookie incident and the chairs.
We had a long table. One side was a cushioned bench (booth?) and the other side were chairs. I am unsure if this is how they wanted the chairs but they kind of slumped in? It made me so conscious of my butt. Made me feel like it was bigger than it already was but no worries. It was still comfy.
I had the seared ahi tuna with wasabi mashed potatoes and tried bites of the fried chicken special, turkey burger, lobster ravioli and apple crisp dessert (of course with a beer).
Tuna was good, especially when I had a bite of it with the wasabi mashed potatoes. I generally don't like wasabi mashed potatoes but it was good together. Fried chicken was really good and the lobster ravioli was YUMMMMMY. I definitely want to come back again, get the lobster ravioli and a glass of wine, and then go see a show at the Arclight. Sounds like a plan to me!
Apple crisp was good too. The topping/crust (which is my fave part) was REALLY good and it came with a side of ice cream and fruit. Mmmmm. Oh. The turkey burger was a bit dry but I guess it's pretty darn good and moist if you get it with mushrooms so don't forget the shrooms man!
One of my girlies ordered the brownie something dessert and she said it was more like a cookie than a brownie? I think it was a different type of brownie but I dunno. All I know is she did not seem very satisfied. I guess we'll know not to get that next time.
Valet was $7!!!! What do you really expect on Sunset though right? I was still wow'ed though. 7 bucks!?
All in all it was a great dinner and I had a wonderful time. Cute place, good food, and loved ones around. Who can ask for a better surprise?
:)
