For a garage bar this place has some amazing food, hands down the best burgers and best shrimp tacos I have ever had (when they have the shrimp). Definitely one of the best chefs in town who never fails to amaze and surprise me with his daily specials.
I do find their grilled onions and jalapenos not to my liking but that's just me.
The decor is great for the theme and the place is very mellow for lunch, great spot for that lunch break drink and eat. At night it picks up into a venue bar. Saturday and Sunday brunch are amazing also, and often you can just ask for the Derrick Special and once again the Chef (Derrick) will amaze you.
The staff is fun and helpful and the beer selection is good too!
If you are looking for laid back Ft. Worth with wonderful food, Magnolia is the place to be. Â Best onion rings in the world and best club sandwich I've had in 50 years...yes, 50 years! Â Heard the music scene here is fantastic, too. Â If I didn't live in Plano, I'd be eating at Magnolia once a week...or more frequently.
Review Source:Cool place to listen to music. I was a little wary of the $10 pp cover charge on Friday night, but they really threw together a nice lineup of Texas country acts and we were entertained all night long. Good energy, and the crowd was only slightly douchey.
I was thrilled that they had a bunch of fun local brews on tap, including a variety of stuff from Four Corners, and my current love, Revolver Blood and Honey. I can't comment on the prices, because I was on this weird social outing with a member of the opposite sex where he paid for all of my drinks? I think it's called a date? I don't know, I am not well versed in these matters. Anyway. Back to Magnolia.
They had some weird shenanigans I didn't really understand where you had to leave your ID card at the podium with the bouncer. I feel fairly fortunate that I actually remembered to retrieve it on the way out.
Anyway, cool scene. I would make a return trip.
Great and clean place to catch a local live band and have a few beers. Â The place is smoke-free and that makes a huge difference to those that like to go home smelling as they came. Â The beers were nice and cold and they have a selection of beers from the local brewers, Rahr and Revolver. Â
We did try the desert that night, but not too impressed.
Tip: Â Try the local brew "Blood and Honey" from Revolver.
I have been to MML several times for happy hour, but for some reason, I just never made around to trying their food. I was finally able to try out only recently. Â
Looking at the menu, I think you almost have to order one of their awesome burgers, but since I had actually had a few burgers earlier in the week, I decided to go with the Grand Prix, one of their chicken sandwiches. I did feel I was committing a mancard violation by not ordering one of the many seemingly delectable burgers, but the Grand Prix's awesomeness helped to assuage any worries I had.
The Grand Prix comes with Grilled Chicken Breast, Pastrami, Pepper Jack Cheese, Roasted Red Peepers, Spicy Magnolia Sauce all on a nice, square, doughy bun. I must say, this is probably one of the best, if not the best chicken sandwich to be had in Fort Worth. If the aforementioned ingredients are not enough to make your stomach growl, the chicken breast itself had an awesome flavor to it, either to their marinade or rub or both.
Another thing I really liked that, to me, was the linchpin of this great experience was the bun. I do like how MML and a few other places are featuring a larger bun that is extremely soft and tasty (think Dutch's, just without the Hawaiian sweetbread flavor). It allows you to eat an extremely large/burger sandwich, without it falling apart or its ingredients falling on you. Just delicious and the greasy fries were great as well.
My brother ordered the Magnolia custom, which looked simply awesome as well and I think for my next trip around, I will be getting that too, since I have yet to try one of their burgers.
However, if you must digress from the burger side of the menu, the Grand Prix is a nice avenue to go on, you won't be disappointed.
One word - dipsticks. Â That's all I need to say about this place. Â They have chicken fried bacon and that's good enough for me.
But they go beyond that - good burgers, a fun patio to hang out on, nice beer selection, and live music all the time from bands that I'd never otherwise stumble across.
Unlike a lot of W 7th, this place does not attract the TCU or surburban crowd. Â It's a much cooler cross section of Fort Worth life which makes it an appealing stop for a happy hour or dinner with friends.
I finally got to try this place on for size at a recent Yelp event. This place is right off West 7th, so very accessible. I thought this was a great music venue because we went on a week night and even though there were a lot of people, there was still room to walk around and not feel like claustrophobic. Granted, I'm sure the weekends are crazier. We did not sample the fare, but next time I plan to, we just enjoyed listening the band. The staff was also very attentive! Great local music venue close to all the greatness of West 7th!
Review Source:Darkened, red, intimate, ligneous, accessible, musical. That's what the Magnolia Motor Lounge is to me. A little more rural-feeling than the venues I'm closer to, but a comfortable scene and a dedicated salute to local music nonetheless. Live music every night, and they mean it. It could be anyone playing, the room might be packed elbow to elbow, or maybe you'll find yourself sitting among only a few other lone souls. But no matter the weather, the crowd, or the band - there will be music playing at the Motor Lounge!
Enjoy their admirable beer selection, fried bar food (that smells pretty dang good, actually), and listen to the melodies of your own Fort Worthians.
Plus, the bathrooms are clean. Amen,
Chicken fried bacon and $1.50 PBR? Yes, please! They have really tasty burgers here. Some of the other reviews are knocking service- but I have always had great service here. The bartenders are friendly without being overbearing and prompt with refills/pre-busing. I usually go on a week night or Sunday afternoon. Never too crowded and not a large TCU dump off. I get the "highway man" burger. It's massive. It usually comes with a ham steak in addition to the burger AND a fried egg. I leave the ham off. It's too much! Really I think you can add a fried egg to anything and it will taste superb :) Come hungry because this burger fills me up and I never eat the side of fries.
Review Source:Usual fare made with non-usual ingredients.
Though this is a night spot/club with live music, we had lunch here and had a good time in the patio.  We ordered the onion rings which are made with red onions are are beet battered.  The nachos are huge and made with flour tortilla chips instead - very different.  I had a chicken-salad salad and though not very vibrant, the chicken salad was good.  We also ordered the BLT and that is made with a  tasty bread and resembles a hamburger rather than the typical sandwich.
They also have a large selection of hot dog dishes - odd, but hey, they are Hebrew National, the best hot dogs ever. Â
If you eat here, bring your appetite.
i like this bar, I like the stage, and I like the layout, you can enjoy your night indoors listening to live music, or on the patio which makes for a lot of fun as well. Â They have a good selection of beer and they have a wall of booze so you cant go wrong. Â I like live music so that is a big plus. Â The bartenders are great and all in all this is a great bar in the FW area.
Review Source:This update is WAYYY overdue. Â I can't even remember when the ownership change happened, but when it did, things got MUCH better and my friends and I started showing up several days a week. Â I'm talking about my new home away from home. Â It's as close to Austin as I can get and that makes me happy. Â My friends and I call it our "Cheers," where everyone knows your name. Â :) Â It has it all- excellent live music, awesome bartenders, a patio, great food, perfect location. Â It's where you go to chill and escape the TCU crowd and just have a great time. Â I don't know how to explain it other than it's just GOOD. Â
This is THE place to be for live music, too. Â Tuesdays are rocking with Josh Weathers and Sam Anderson, Wednesdays are great for Scott Copeland (after you're done next door at Capital for the summer music series) and just about every other night they are featuring some of the best bands you'll find in Fort Worth. Â I have found some of my new favorite bands by coming here on random nights looking for drinks but discovering great tunes in the process. Â
Typically you'd expect bar/music venue to have mediocre food, but the kitchen cranks out some pretty great dishes. Â Check out their website or Facebook page for daily specials. Â And I'm not talking just when you're looking for drunk munchies (but if you are, I recommend the Garage Fries). Â And then let's talk about the bar staff: Â I am partial to a few bartenders in particular (you know who you are), but they are all super friendly and great at what they do. Â
The best part is- I can show up here all dolled-up from a dinner with the girls or I can show up in a hoodie and baseball cap and it will always be comfortable. Â Come as you are, grab a cold drink, make some new friends, listen to some great music. Â I don't think I could want much more.
A music venue, a great restaurant, and a bar with superlative bartenders and innovative drink specials, my favorite is the Paw Paw, which is a shot of well Bourbon and a Miller High Life (served, when possible, in a Mason jar for a touch of class.) The menu covers a delicious range and the lunch specials are not to be missed. Located in the heart of W. 7th, the Motor Lounge is close to many points of interest, but why leave when you know things are going to get good on that stage every night of the week.
Review Source:In an area with several music venues and bars, this one is probably my favorite. Â Don't let the 3-Star rating fool you- its a good spot to see live music any night (literally), but there's still some things that could always take a little upgrade. Â
Decent bar selection and the space is full of seating, just so long as you get there early enough to get them. Â The scene is laid back and not pushing any issues like other venues can do- all said, its just a chill place to visit. Â The musical acts are usually pretty good, but every now and then can be a little preachy towards certain crowds. Â Prices are fair, and unlike Capitol Bar, you don't pay a cover regardless of who the act is, or if there even is one.
Been here a few times and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Â Nothing amazing, but pretty solid and a good place to relax. Â Worth noting, however - after the changes @ the Wild Rooster, 2 staffers have made their way to the MML - Candice and Katie. Â Definitely a positive for me. Â Looking forward to coming here more often now!
At our last visit, the School of Rock was performing. Â Aside from the oddness of listening to a 10 year old singing "I want you to want me ..." it was a good show by a talented group of kids. Â As long as they don't take over the bar, I guess I'm okay with that.
This place got new management about a year or two ago. Â Some small details make a big difference for me - although for the men in my family they say it's just the same. Â I loooved this dessert they had before the change. Â It was like a hot brownie that's not all the way cooked so that it was super gooey and DELICIOUS! Â There was a girlie drink that was on special when all the boys got their beer deals that was a bellini or something of that sort. Â Basically, when we all went - everyone had someone they looked forward to and everyone "got theirs". Â For me - now it's just an old car themed burger place.
Review Source:My girlfriend and I went here for the first time last night cuz I wanted to see Scott Copeland play. I read some reviews about bad service on here before we left but I typically don't pay attention to those reviews but I did notice them. We sat down and finally got the attention of a waitress and I'm quite certain she is the same waitress the other people had...long story short she was a complete B and had zero interest in being there and I equally had zero interest in putting up with her attitude. I got the attention of another waitress and asked if she could serve us and she couldn't have been nicer or given us better service.
So the end result was we saw a good concert with no cover charge. They were out of PBR which I was excited to drink but no worries...its a good atmosphere. We didn't eat there but I have had their tacos from the side window while at Capital Bar and they were awesome.
3 stars for employing that horrible waitress and being out of PBR...really 3.5 but...
They bill themselves as featuring live music every night, and when I headed in on a rainy Monday, expecting perhaps that the place might be hopping, it wasn't. But the live music was definitely in play. If that visit is any indicator, the fulcrum on which they tend to pivot is largely the singer songwriter variety, which I happen to think is great fun.
Less so the animated gal overpowering the guitars onstage with circular political chatter during the midst of the set: nevertheless, the band (in this case, really two musicians who were taking turns spinning yarns and backing each other up) kept the room warm on an evening when outside Mother Nature had the opposite in mind. It's a full bar: beer selections aren't particularly risky with a few exceptions, but the musicians were clearly comfy here, and while they were on break a drummer from another band dropped in to talk shop and catch up (actually, as I recall, they spent equal time chatting about their beards, which were, it should be noted -- exceptional.
I wasn't able to stick around for the final set of the night, but I did get to chat with the musicians for a few before I had to bolt and if these guys are an indication of Ft. Worth's musical legacy, I'm amped (to quote an article I read this week, an unnamed Dallas venue owner suggested that while Dallas has great music venues, "Fort Worth has the bands"). I haven't eaten here, so I can't really comment on that part. But I'm excited about the possibilities otherwise.
Tried this place out last night with the hubs. Like Asa, we usually prefer to visit independant establishments over chains when we can and this place was a place we tend on visiting again (especially since they serve decent food and are  open until 2am almost every day).
We opted for the onion rings as an appetizer. I got the Fast Eddy hot dog and the hubs got some mammoth sized open face sandwich i forgot the name of.
The onion rings can out nice and hot and crispy. The crust also had a nice flavor, my only suggestion to improve these would be to get a sweeter onion to compliment the beer batter crust a little better - otherwise they were spot on.
Shortly after we got our meal and I was very surprised and pleased with my meal: The Fast Eddy was a ginormous hot dog that dwarfed the poor bun it was shoved into (no pun intended) and a serving of pepper fries.I really wasnt expecting such a large hot dog - my only slight complaint would be to have them keep the dog on the grill just a little longer.
My husband's sandwich was epic: it was an open faced sandwich with his choice of meat (he got some tasty looking pastrami), topped off with fries and covered in spicy cheese sauce. He added grilled onions, mushroom and jalapenos on top of that as well. Poor guy wasnt expecting the spicy cheese sauce to actually have some major heat going on. Add those jalapenos to the mix and that sandwich kicked his butt. Sauce aside, he thought the sandwich was great - It reminded me of an Illinois horseshoe but with a thicker cheese sauce.
We're definitely planning on coming back here again.
Heard about the menu and decided to get it a try. Â Their parking lot is small but there is plenty of free parking around the business. Â Everything sound good on the menu. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich and I had a combo deli sandwich. The food was hot & tasty and the service was very good. We will most definitely be going back to try one of their hamburgers.
Review Source:A solid average rating, nothing awful but nothing stands out either. Some people might describe the burgers as "non greasy", I say they are closer to "dry" and they NEVER come out hot. The wraps are delicious but oh so tiny, no one is getting full on just the wraps alone. Decent beer choices and the limited mixed drink options are overpriced. PBR pints for a buck fitty is great if you're either a poor college kid or a drunk but you realize you're drinking PBR don't you? I'll cut them slack because they are at least trying (maybe a bit too hard, like another reviewer noted). Opening a place for burgers in this area is a bold statement, just "okay" ain't gonna cut it.
Review Source:With a heavy heart I am downgrading my review.... as per my original review this place was really a just 4 star (5 stars for the cheap PBR) . If you like your burgers cooked medium, then it is still a solid 4 star.
I went with a friend in the middle of the day and had a great server / bartender (Heather?) she was attentive & nice. My friend ordered the basic burger & I ordered a taco as I had sorta eaten already. The taco was awesome & my friends burger was very tasty. She ordered it medium and halfway thru said she should have ordered it medium rare as it was truly cooked thru. So I place my to-go order for my BF, a medium rare Custom Burger (now this is a great menu option, fried egg, bacon, cheese & onions). I am told "We will not cook burgers less than medium is that OK?"
{rant on}
Um no it's not OK, you have 8 burgers on your menu, the city doesn't require it, you aren't a Chili's, NO medium is NOT OK!!! I asked why I could get a RARE burger one block away at Fred's and not here. Yada, Yada, Yada about health inspections. I cancelled my to-go order, and while finishing my margarita, tried to understand their policy. I pleaded for them to take my concerns to the owner as I really have no reason to come back. This is a gear head themed joint, I build race cars for a living, I have dirt under my fingernails, I just want a MR hamburger!!!! C'mon guys I'm trying to be a customer here but you are making difficult!!
{/rant off}
Thanks for reading... back to your regularly scheduled programming....
the burger at the magnolia motor lounge was great. the fries were also pretty good. overall, the menu is solid. but it feels like the place is trying too hard to be cool and hip when all it has to do is serve great food and drinks.
they have a prime location down by 7th street and decent service. the waitress just needs to be trained on how to use the hand held device that places the order. a bit too high tech for a small place, maybe they should stick with pen and paper.
MML loses a star because they have all the little details covered but overlooks a big one...common sense. during dinner, they decided to move the car that they're raffling off inside the restaurant. filling the room with the smell of gasoline and dropping the temperature about 20 degrees. thank goodness we were finishing our meal. it was only 8pm. next time, wait until your customers leave!
The burgers are good, a little bit too sloppy at times but I won't complain too much. Usually, the best burgers are going to be a little sloppy. I was feeling adventurous on my first visit and had the Triple Deuce, which isn't something you'd probably want to eat on a regular basis. Oh, did I mention there was chicken fried bacon on it? So yeah... they make a good burger but there's a little bit of novelty factor in there, too. The fries lack a certain something, definitely not my favorite but better than some places.
Having eaten the chicken fried bacon on burgers and on it's own, on another visit I tried the chicken fried steak sandwich. Sorry, don't like it. I don't know if the meat is just too thick and sinewy or if the breading is just too dense, but it was just overall hard to eat and I didn't enjoy it much, therefore only ate about half of it and did not ask for the to-go box. I suppose my dog would've liked it, but hindsight is 20/20.
These days, most of my burger experiences are based around what else is available when Fred's is closed, too busy or I'm burned out on it (hardly ever) but MML is actually one of the better options in/around 7th street. They have a good selection of beer, which doesn't hurt. I would recommend that they try to find a way to add milkshakes to the menu. Considering the motif of the restaurant, anyway.
One day, Stacey and I were on a mission for more burger joints. Somehow our birthday and team luncheons have turned from "let's find a new restaurant" into "let's eat all the burgers in Fort Worth and then some." And guess what, there are LOTS of burger places. Is Fort Worth the burger capital of the universe? Pretty much.
So, we found this menu on-line, and the place was new, and NO ONE had been yet. Bonus. If were going to give this a score, it would be 5 gold stars! BAM! So, we oogle over the menu and finally TODAY we went. Now this was an occasion for 2 people. First, it was Stacey's birthday, I think she is 36, but argues 34. Regardless, she is WAY older than me. The second occasion is for our favorite Safety lady, Deb. She is a wild one, and the lucky one who gets to retire. Guess when I get to retire? Oh wait, NEVER, or in 35 more years. I hope someone takes me to a sweet burger place and pays. Shoot in 35 years, I better be riding a hover board to the burger joint, and I will order through mind control.
OK back to this joint. The decor is really cool. I don't have a 57 Chevy, but I like the old gas station pumps and signs. It's modern, but cool. There is even an old car in there with some TVs. Rock on. So my party of 7 sat down. Geoff was our waiter. He had some full on chops grown in. They looked cool and not put on with adhesive! Rock on side burn guy. So they have a computer they order on and that makes me happy. Way to use technology guy. I applaud you. Then we got the cheese fries. Not so much. They looked scary and were pretty spicy. They had fries, crazy sauce, stringy scary jalapenos, grilled onions, with a mini scoop of sour cream. Skip these. I want my cheese fries with heaps of melted REAL cheese, bacon bits, green onions, sour cream. My favorite cheese fries is Snuffer's. I stand by that. NOW, I got the Highway Man burger. It was cooked perfectly at medium. It was "The Standard burger" with American cheese, onion ring, fried egg and ham. You are like really? But I am saying REALLY! It was heavenly, and ginormous. I loved it. And you get more fries. By then I didn't need more fries, but it's nice they came along. Geoff, the waiter, with the chops, brought me a plentiful supply of pop. I might have drank a pitcher of pop at lunch today. But I love, love when my drink is not empty and I am not secretly having to steal my neighbors drink out of severe thirst. Don't put it past me, I've done it. Ask Sharolyn. Well she might not know about this, but she does now...
Overall, good burgers. I am going to add a bonus to this review. The website is BEAUTIFUL. I mean, nicely done web designer. It is cute, crispy and helpful. Way to be an all around techie kind of place. If the website wasn't cute, we would have never feasted on burgers today. Bravo.
It's places like these that makes me proud to be a Fort Worth native. The restaurant scene is improving by the day it seems. Unique places such as Magnolia Motor Lounge are popping up all over the place and they are certainly not disappointing my palatte! The menu offers a variety of unique burgers with "Motor" themes. Turn it over to the back to see additional themed sandwiches. I had a hard time deciding what I wanted because it all sounded delicious yet it all sounded like I would need to take a Bayer or two afterward to prevent a heart attack. I settled with the 'County Line Sandwich' because I can't turn down an opportunity to have a sandwich with a fried egg on it. I highly recommend their Jalapeno Cornbread Loaf for any of the their sandwiches, however, Â I do not recommend coleslaw. It was a bit tasteless and too dressed. The atmosphere is great, they play great music, the staff is super friendly, and the decor is clean, modern and perfectly themed around being a "Motor Lounge". When I feel like 'bustin' a gut' I'll come back and definitely order a burger (perhaps one their burgers that has fries on it) Give this place a try! It looks like the perfect place to go to watch a game, eat delicious high-calorie food and drink a cold beer.
Review Source:Deep fried bacon. Tom Petty, Dwight Yoakum, and Johnny Cash on the sound system. Paul Newman movies on the TV. Hot dogs, sandwiches, and even salads. My burger came complete with a fried egg. The burgers here are incredible and everything on the menu is very original. The decor is all car related and they have plans for having live bands in very soon.
Review Source:I really want to like this place. I always prefer independent places to chains, especially when they strive to deliver more. I think that's what MML wants to do - but so far it ain't working. There is a manufactured feeling striving towards coolness that just feels like desperation and the food is just not there either. Once I got mydeep fried hotdog I expected to see the dude off of bizzare foods show up to help me eat it. Not good. I was hoping for a place that was a comfortable for a beer and good food. So far it's neither.
Review Source:First things first: It's called the Magnolia Motor Lounge
I went there for it's opening day and was immediately greeted with "PBR on tap: $1.50 a pint" which is phenomenal. Upon ordering my delicious beverage I glanced over the menu which is only a few pages long and had an "uh oh" moment upon realizing that damn near everything on the menu is fried.
So, once I realized there is no way I'm leaving here without consuming over 2,000 calories, my friend's order of beer battered onion rings arrived at the table and my god were they good. Â As I chowed down on onion rings and drank my beer I saw something on the menu that made my jaw drop: A deep fried hot dog covered in chili, jalapenos, onions, and mustard (as well as some other sauce that I can't remember.) Â My friend and I locked eyes and just nodded our heads in agreement: we must have this!
I stepped outside for a cigarette and when i came back to the table the evil creation had arrived. Â I looked down at my plate to see a complete mess of chili and toppings (and of course a side of fries) unable to see hot dog itself. Â Upon some tooling around with a fork i was able to see the the dish for what it really was: a heart attack waiting to happen, and I couldn't be happier.
I should say that there is absolutely no way to eat this thing like a normal hot dog. Â I mean you can I suppose, but you're going to get more on yourself then you would in your mouth. Â So, I attacked the monster with everything I had, using whatever fell off as a dip for my fries. Â The hot dog was crispy on the outside and tender in the middle and it was without a doubt the best hot dog I've ever had in my life. Â I probably could have finished it, but I felt so bad about eating it to begin with I left a small piece on the end so I wouldn't feel as bad. Â
All-in-all this place is incredible.  The owner and management kept walking around checking on every ones food (which is to be expected on opening day) and they were extremely friendly and excited to talk to you.  They have awesome decor (kind of 1950's styling) and the combination of cheap beer and deep fried goodness make this place one of my new favorites although  I probably won't come here as much as I'd like to due to my own health concerns.
