We go there at least twice a week. We have to have a #3, and a #4...HANDSDOWN THE BEST SANDWICHES IN JERSEY.....Only locals really know just how fantastic this place is. A very well kept secret. Great service..quick...and I dont know why his sandwiches are so well balanced, and taste so good..THEY ARE ADDICTIVE!!!!.We go there from Millburn, around 3/4 miles a few times a week. A small shop, just makes subs..he has perfected the art of making them. The girls who work there are so nice, and always are efficient and give you a smile. Seriously, you have to go there...once you try one, YOU WILL BE HOOKED. Very clean shop. He shaves the onions and lettuce and tomatoes are paper thin....perfect bread...I wish he was open on Sundays. YOU HAVE TO GO THERE!!! A MUST HAVE!!!!
Review Source:Best sub for the price point. I don't see why people would goto subway even for value this is most bang for buck. I would recommend if you are in Union and looking for a Sub to eat.
Note no 5 Star is because hours not that great 5:30? Some days I would like to have a sub for dinner but I don't get back to town till 6.
Credit Card? not very Credit Card friendly.
Parking - can be a pain sometimes I would need to park ~ a block away.
Hands down the best sub spot in Union. Forget blimpie or subway. Everything is made to order. Fresh veggies and freshly cut meat along with decent prices.A Half sandwich is more than enough for one person. The turkey, tuna, or chicken cutlet are my regulars. I try to go at least once a week to satisfy my cravings. On its busiest days you'll wait no more than 5 mins with a tasty sub clutched in your arms waitin for consumption. You won't be disappointed. oh yea...add bacon to any sandwich! Bacon makes everything better.
Review Source:While I'm not a grizzled veteran of the Mr. Sub menu like some of the other reviewers, I did like the Italian sub I had there. Â Indeed, half of a sub is all you should need for lunch. The bread is fresh and the meat is sliced fresh as well. Also, it's a nice little local touch to name the specialty subs after landmarks in Union.
I just don't know why I've been going to the chain sub places in the area. Mr. Sub is now my go to spot for subs since the deli near my house went downhill.
Mr. Sub is a cornerstone establishment in Union. Â I have been going there since I was a kid. Â Mr. Sub has always been a great place for sandwiches. Â Basically any sandwich you can think of creating they already have it. Â Their white and whole wheat bread are simply great. Â My favorites are chicken cutlet sandwiches, Italian, and the classic turkey. Â They also have a huge fridge of all kinds of sodas, Gatorade, and iced teas.
Even though Mr. Sub is an example of coldcut culinary mastery, it has improved over the years. Â Mr. Sub was originally owned by the infamous "Sub Nazi". Â This dictator of of the mayo was extremely nasty and would yell at you if you did not order by number. Â He made you re-think your choice of going there to spend your money, but the food was so good you put up with him. Â The new Mr. Sub has made the place better. Â Not only has he added new items to the menu, but he also has made your eating experience more enjoyable. Â The new Mr. Sub is a straight forward no nonsense kind of guy, and I like it! Â He takes your order, asks you for your choice of condiments, and quickly bangs out an awesome sandwich.
In the end if your around Union hit up Mr. Sub for great sandwiches at a great price.
ORDER BY NUMBER AND BRING STRAIGHT CASH HOMEY
What a great place. When I try explaining to people why chain sub places don't get the job done, I cite Mr. Sub. This place uses only the freshest meats and bread (whole wheat or white).
I think all the other reviews are pretty spot on. This local place provides you the best sub sandwiches in union county. Not only are his turkey and cheese sandwiches (14b) top of the line, he also makes splendid chicken cutlet combos. The best part about his chicken cutlet sandwiches is that sand is not included on them. ;)
I think this is a top 3 place that you have to go to if you are looking to munch. I'd honestly go out of the way to come to this place.
LBD loves this place. LBD stops here when he comes home. I love this place so much that I'd be torn if I gave it anything other than a 10.
Mr. Subs is one of my favorite neighborhood establishments in my hometown of Union, NJ.
The process here is pretty easy. Look on the menu for a sub you like, order by number, say what accouterments you'd like on your sub and pay. They're pretty quick with everything, and though the main man there is a bit curt, he's a nice guy (especially when compared to the infamous "Sub Nazi" that used to own the place).
They have a great assortment of subs and fresh coldcuts. The bread is really great too (they have whole wheat or plain white). The portion size is huge and the bang for your buck can't be beat. Half of a sub (which is more than filling) will usually run you just about 5 bones.
I usually go with the chicken cutlet which is absolutely awesome or the tuna fish which is similarly great. But you really can't go wrong, so if you're in the neighborhood, stop by for sure. I always do whenever I'm back in Union.
I really can't believe I am the first person to write a review for Mr. Sub in Union. It really is a spot my friends and I go to quite often when we're all home, basically because it is the best sandwich around.
Recently, I have gone vegetarian for about a month, just to give it a shot and see how I feel. I have missed three things since the beginning: 1) juicy burgers 2) Mr Sub's turkey sandwich and 3) Galloping Hill buffalo chicken wrap. I never thought it would be my #2, but it's true. I really desire one.
Nothing is particularly nice about Mr. Sub. They only take cash. The guy (Mr. Sub himself) doesn't talk. He has two spanish chicks working the condiments and register that look like they are planning to kill Mr. Sub. The tables are wobbly and kinda dirty. There is a huge bucket with pickles in it, that you open and take your pickles. There is NOTHING in here that you will marvel at, except for the fact that Mr. Sub will not smile, even when he's cutting through the fresh bread like its a human body.
If you push all that aside, everything else will make you happy. The big board with sandwiches is huge. You can have almost any kind of sandwich you desire, but when you realize what you want, tell Mr. Sub the number from the board or he might cut you instead of the bread. It is also very well priced for the amount of sandwich you are getting. It isn't a $5 foot-long, but you are getting a whole lot more food than at Subway. When you are finished, you will have a great submarine sandwich. The bread (especially the whole wheat) is fresh and soft. The cold cuts or chicken cutlets or salads are delicious and also fresh. The toppings are cut perfectly and they add an ideal amount to each sandwich.
I go for the 14B almost every time with mayo + onions + lettuce. It's a can't miss and is amazing. I really want one bad, and when I give up this vegetarian stint in a few weeks, I'm going to get a nice Mr. Sub sandwich, if I make it out alive.
Mr. Sub is a terrific place in town to stop in for a great sandwich that'll fill you up -- guarenteed.
The owner is a bit of a stingy guy; not very friendly; sort of just takes your order, makes your sandwich, and bids you farewell. The concept of Mr. Sub's sandwiches is creative -- they name their signature sandwiches after landmarks in Union. Streets and places are all used, and there is a laundry list of combinations to choose from. They also have whole wheat bread, which is a plus. The best thing about Mr. Sub is obviously, the quality of food. Everything is fresh and cut daily, and they really pack the subs with meat. I recommend getting the half portion (it's the equivelant to a Subway foot-long). I usually get the whole, but I'm also starving anytime I stop by. If you get a whole, and don't have a big stomach, chances are you won't finish it -- but you can just wrap it and bring it home.
The prices are fair, service is quick, and it's never really busy, making it a definite top spot for a great sandwich in Union.
