I used to live near here and when I was back in the neighborhood I noticed New Soul Cafe for the first time. It is not in the greatest part of Evanston so it really stood out. It has a clean contemporary look and I knew I had to try it.
They serve all meals but their Entrees section is definitely the smallest. Tonight we opted for a couple of sandwiches and some sweet tea. The sweet tea was great! My partner in crime had the BLT with fries and enjoyed it very much. I had the house specialty: The New Soul Chicken Sandwich (I think house specialties are always a good way to start). It was quite the sandwich! The grilled chicken was very flavorful...in fact all the ingredients were great; as an ensemble it was a bit rich and I was unable to finish. Don't get me wrong, it was great it was just a lot to take in. The sandwich was served with a lunch sized bag of ruffles potato chips. That just didn't jibe with the look and experience I was expecting from the restaurant.
It was very reasonably priced. Whenever I'm back in the area I think I'll go back. I lived around there for a few years so all the standard places seem a bit tired. I think New Soul is a really up and coming establishment for the neighborhood. Check it out.
