Well, yesterday's visit to Hecky's Barbecue enabled me to unlock the "Porky" badge on @foursquare for checking in to barbecue spots! Â I checked-in on Hecky's FB page too, AFTER placing/receiving my order and returning to my car.....low&behold, this sucka (ME) for any type of discount....could have gotten 20% off! Â Dang! Â I almost went back in to ask for it :D
Also, I was surprisingly surprised that Hecky's was only a few minutes away from Downtown Evanston. Â Thank goodness for my TeleNav GPS APP., as I always seem to be driving while Black&LOST, whenever I have to venture to unfamiliar areas in Evanston.
*The Combo Chgo. Tips/HotLink: Â moist/quite tasty, but a little too charred. Â Next time, I will have to ask that my meat be less charred and more light skinnDED! Â P.S. Â I only discriminate when it comes to my meat *wink*
**The sLauce: Â mild, which I chose to not get on the side, was GOOD. Â I should have gotten it on the side though, because as in the case of most que joints, it was sLaughtered on TOO heavy. Â Next time, I'm going to try a side of Hecky's HOT bbque sauce.
***When I saw The Crinkle Cut Fries (my fav cut of frfry, I almost lost it!): Â Un-be-liev-able --} they were actually thoroughly cooked!
****The Slice of 7UP pound cake: Â it was not to my liking...the "cake" was too sweet and....; the light&sugary 7UP? frosting was a unique twist though. Â My mom use to make 7UP pcakes, sans frosting.
*****The Receipt: Â $12.60 + $2.20 + 1.41/tax = $16.21
I'm 'bout to go eat my leftover Tips - NOW!
Dear Hecky B., I'll be back!
Hecky's has recently added late-night free delivery if ordered via their website, rather than by Grub-Hub. The sauce is distinctive, and served on almost everything. Although the ribs and chicken are expensive, the rib tips and hot links are a fantastic deal, just as tasty. The sandwiches and specials, such as pulled pork sandwich with fries and pop for $6, are outstanding. Sides are hit-or-miss; fries and industrial whipped butter-flavored potatoes are so-so; the rice and beans and greens are better. Desserts are outstanding. AND they have Green River. I would skip the fried items here, and get my fried fish and chicken at Chicken Shack, just across the tracks and around the corner. I don't know why people dis the white bread. It's more environmentally sound than a wet-napkin. (Clearly its purpose is finger cleaning, right?)
