I've been to North 3 or 4 times over the past several years. Â Just recently Christmas Eve. Â My friend and I went to the lights at the Botanic Gardens. Â A light snow falling and a beautiful evening, our thought was the very famous bar in the area but it was closed. Â Next was a boutique hotel which I've given a good review in the past. Â However, we were in their very small restaurant and waited for over 15 minutes and no one even acknowledged us. Â Okay, understood the night before Christmas. Â
So, we walked over to North. Â It was pretty empty but we were greeted with a huge hello from the bar staff where we sat. Â They let us know that the kitchen was about to close but didn't rush us at all. Â Kudos! Â We ordered pizza. Â While we waited they brought us bread with their butter. Â The bread was good but they did let us know they ran out of "their" bread because their regular vendor didn't come because they thought they were closed. Â The bread was actually from Whole Foods next door. Â It was all good, but if you are looking for fresh bread made at the restaurant, go somewhere else. Â
The pizza was good, had a lot of greens on it.  Another  friend didn't like so much on a previous visit. as well.  Personally, I dig any where that I can sneak in greens and it tastes good.  The pizza was tasty.  I like a thin crust but both times I've had the pizza it was a little too thin.  Cracker thin is not what I'm looking for.  I wanted it thin but a tad doughy as well. Â
Overall, the food was probably a 3-3.5 star but given the ambiance and service, I give it a 4 star. Â I'm all about the total experience.
I really enjoyed my meal at North (despite the weird capitalization of its name) when I went with wife and friends for my birthday dinner. Â We tried the Zucca chips based on recommendations here, and they were very light and airy to the point where I couldn't even taste the zucchini, though my favorite appetizer was the calamari, which was battered with tempura to make it even more delicious than other places. Â I really enjoyed the chicken & prosciutto, and my wife's pizza was also very good.
Everyone enjoyed the food, though there were some complaints later about the abundance of garlic in certain dishes, the wine list was good, and the portions were nicely sized. Â The staff was very attentive, and the waiter even comped my dessert when someone told him we were there for my birthday. Â
I recommend this place for a great dinner out, though parking can be touch-and-go sometimes.
Nothing is better than great service and great food at a fair price. Â NoRTH has all of the above. Â We enjoyed a Friday night trip for our first meal here. Â Fortunately we used the Open Table app on Yelp to get a reservation at 8:30 pm. Â Otherwise our wait would have been about an hour. Â We walked right in and had a great table by the window. Â The calamari was excellent and had a nice lemony note on a bed of peppery greens. Â We also enjoyed the beet salad with hazelnuts. Â My fiance got the short ribs with homemade pasta and I got the scallops. Â Our waitress was nice enough to put it the scallops on pasta for me and the pesto was delish! Â For dessert we had nutella cake and homemade gelato. Â With 20% tip, a great martini (try the one with the house peppers) and a few beers, our total was around $125. Â Perfect night and we will definitely be back.
Review Source:I've been here twice now for lunch with my family and it is really good fare.
The first time, I had the Bucatini which was a really good simple tomato basil pasta. But the real treat was the Farmer's Market salad I had on my second trip. It is literally the best salad I've ever had!
That was back in August so it may change seasonally but the one I had was kale, romaine, farro, beets, dates, cranberries, almonds, and romano cheese. The dressing was a delicious house vinaigrette. I highly recommend that salad, and NoRTH for a go to fresh light lunch!
This was our second meal here in the last three weeks.  Last visit was much better - tonight was a bit of a disappointment.  The food was good, our waiter, however, could use some improvement.  We had ordered wine with our dinners - it arrived as we were almost done.  And - no one asked us if we wanted the 6oz or the 9 oz serving.  We all wanted the 6 oz but were served the larger.  We should have questioned it but assumed it was the waiter making up for the long wait.  We were all surprised when we were charged the full 9 oz price on our bill  Not too great on the part I'd the wait staff.  We won't be back soon.
Review Source:It was my friends birthday and ths is the restaurant he wanted to go to for dinner. Â I was not so excited because I had been here even though it had been a few years. Â I also like Bloom in Westminister and Bloom in Scottsdale. Â However I like going to new restaurants and there are so many I would like to try. Â It was not my birthday so we ended up there
Two of us had Vodka Martinis with blue cheese olives served up and one with ice. Â The birthday boy was not happy with his drink. Â He sent it back and got a new one which he was still not thrilled with but drank it anyway. Â I was fine with mine as was his wife. Â My husband said his water was fine.
Dinner made up for the drinks. Â I had salmon and it was very good. Â The scallops were great. Â However the guys had homemade pasta with braised beef. Â Now those dishes were really tasty. Â I kept trying my husbands. Yum. Â The bread and olives they serve are also good. Â The Tiramasu for dessert was a nice end to the meal.. Â I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised with dinner and glad we went.
This is one of the best Italian place I've ever had!  (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/IqxTaWdhqi396H6-8Jq8mA?select=VZ5y2dg1U1WX5h8WTZuEJw#QGRQIC0fnaxbrKLwCPO5mQ">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>)
1. Ceaser Salad - AMAZING, especially their croutons! Their croutons are made out of their fresh bread & their dressing, it's not the usual ceaser dressing. Bottom line, you just need to try it! (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/IqxTaWdhqi396H6-8Jq8mA?select=xFsZ2XdEeNc2bNkr9QeDgQ#xFsZ2XdEeNc2bNkr9QeDgQ">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>)
2. I think this was some beef pasta - The beef melted in your mouth!  Another MUST TRY item (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/IqxTaWdhqi396H6-8Jq8mA?select=830m2zC19zyWGYwm38kAKA#830m2zC19zyWGYwm38kAKA">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>)
3. Pasta with mushroom, chicken and Parmesan sauce - OMG, it's not heavy like the alfredo sauce, but it's heavy enough to satisfy your tummy & hit the spot on a cold winter day (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/IqxTaWdhqi396H6-8Jq8mA?select=VZ5y2dg1U1WX5h8WTZuEJw#VZ5y2dg1U1WX5h8WTZuEJw">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>)
4. The spicy shrimp pasta - if you like spicy you LOVE this!!!!  The tomato sauce is not too heavy and dense like those you usually get!  You can definitely tell this is a sauce they made daily & can't get anywhere else (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/IqxTaWdhqi396H6-8Jq8mA?select=VZ5y2dg1U1WX5h8WTZuEJw#taBu3YVDDsLw1Hryq6VruA">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>)
5. Pizza - I LOVE their crust!  It's a tin crust pizza that not overly baked, so it's not to hard like some tin crust pizza!  (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/IqxTaWdhqi396H6-8Jq8mA?select=VZ5y2dg1U1WX5h8WTZuEJw#taBu3YVDDsLw1Hryq6VruA">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>)
Tip: Come with a group so you can try everything cause everything here is just W.O.W! Â Get some of their fresh bread because it's really TO DIE FOR!!!!!
amazing restaurant. Â first started with the asparagus bruschetta -delicious..
I ordered the caesar salad, this probably was one of the best salads I have tasted. Â Very light and the croutons were grilled, buttered pieces of bread ( I am still thinking about this salad). Â I ordered the chicken parmesan (order extra sauce) it was amazing. Â My coworker got the short ribs and said it was also very delicious.... can't wait to come back to this restaurant :)
I have been here a few times: Â for HH, lunch and dinner, but just recently dined here again and forgot what a trendy, little gem this place is! Â
We ordered the new fall salad on their menu and I split it with my husband. Â It was excellent!! Â So much so, we're going back again tonight and I might have to just order the entire salad for me! Â For our entrees, my husband had the cavatelli and I had the chicken and proscuitto. Â I don't know why the skin is left on the chicken, but it was easy to take off and possibly left on to retain the incredible moisture in the chicken. Â I've been here before and have had their fig & proscuitto pizza and remember it was so good, I ate every last bite - although, I was really, really full.
Service is good, atmosphere is fun and, most importantly, I haven't been disappointed with a meal here.
The only advice my husband had is that they need to upgrade their beer selection. Â So, if you're into beers, don't expect much of a decent selection. Â He decided to stick with water.
If you are looking for a trendy little place to get some tasty food or drinks in Cherry Creek north, NoRTH is still holding its own. Still located on the corner of Second and Clayton, it is super easy to find and gives you an excuse to check out one of the boutique shops right around the corner when you are finished with your meal or cocktail. I have been finding myself here more and more for happy hour after a hard workout or when I just feel in the mood for one of their delicious herbal cocktail concoctions.
When I feel like carbing out and steering from the healthy side of my conscious, their Strozzapreti is crazy delicious! It is pasta with chicken, mushrooms, spinach, pine nuts, all wrapped in a perfect cream sauce. NoRTH also puts out a pretty tasty burger too IMO - they are always moist and cooked to perfection, with some of the tastiest herbs cooked right into them. And yes, the sun-dried tomato butter is still available before your meal accompanied by a freshly baked bread.
If you find yourself in the mood for a chill, down-to-earth meal with some good cocktails, NoRTH is one of many great choices in the area.
I came here on Thursday night during Fashion's Night Out and wasn't sure what type of crowd or environment we'd be in for. Â We ended up having a great time and enjoying everything about our service.
The hostess sat me and my fiance immediately at a great little 2-seat table by the window. Â Our waitress was friendly, warm, but not overly pushy.
Based on FourSquare reviews, we ordered the Zuca Chips as an appetizer. Â There were plenty to share - I don't think we even finished between the two of us. Â I also had a glass of prosecco with white peach fruit puree, which was a tasty, un-fussy cocktail.
For dinner, we had the sea bass entree and the chicken/mushroom pasta (it had an Italian name that I can't recall). Â Everything was delicious and the portions weren't obnoxiously huge. Â I actually was able to eat a sufficient amount and still have a little side of pasta to save for lunch the next day.
One piece of advice - we ordered the tiramisu dessert and it came in a bowl. Â A bit odd as I've never had that type of tiramisu, but it was covered in a delicious whipped cream sort of thing. Â But, it was also pretty big! Â After having an appetizer and entrees, the 2 of us barely made a dent in the dessert and we brought it home, as well.
I would definitely take friends and family here!
Okay so this is my second review. Â If you scroll down you can see I left a very nice 5 star review for this place. Â That was after my fist dining experience. My second was not so pleasant, and unfortunately I had brought guests from out of town that time.
We ordered two appetizers, caprese salad and calamari. The appetizers were terrible, it was like I paid $24 for two plates of arugula. Â The caprese salad had 4 measly pieces of tomato and 4 little chunks of cheese. Â The majority of the plate was arugula. Â Now on to the calamari, last time it was perfect. Â A large portion of calamari and a side of arugula. Â I ordered it the second time craving what I had before. Â Now after the matter I remember our server the first time recommended ordering the arugula on the side. Â I forgot that this time. Â We got our dish and it was like a race to eat the calamari before the dressing from the arugula made the calamari soggy. (they toss them together). Â I don't understand why this place ruins a perfectly good dish of calamari by tossing it with salad. Â I have never seen this before???? Should I really have to special order this dish??
We waited and waited with plates of undesirable food in front of us, no service. Â We had to call a bus boy over to request our sever. Â We waited and waited some more. Â My boyfriend then had to get up and find another employee who then has to find our server. Â Finally she comes over and we explain the issues. Â She can't handle taking them away and off our check, so a manager has to come over. Â Now at this point it's embarrassing because we invited guests with us to a place we highly talked up. Â This whole arugula appetizer thing has turned into a way bigger issue than it needs to be. Â The manager agrees to take them off and we order entrees.
The entrees came out delicious, however there was now an uncomfortable atmosphere. Â Our server was acting very timid now. Â She should have just been on top of her job, checked in with us 5 min after the appetizers were served, and handled the issue on her own. Â You could tell she was embarrassed, as she should have been. Â
I will never return here again and I felt sorry for bringing guests here. Â I gave two stars instead of one because the entrees were good, however the service/atmosphere was horrible!! Â They are trying to be trendy and the place does look nice appearance wise, but that's does not make up for the horrible experience we had.
The service at the bar is incredibly pretentious and rude. What happened to being friendly? Â Â Â Someone needs to talk to these bartenders about being hospitable. If you want a dining experience where you feel you are "lucky" to be in the presence of these people eating mediocre food.... Â this is your place!
Review Source:Yum! I lunched here with some girlfriends yesterday and it was a blast. The food was delicious (you MUST try the zuca chips!) The drinks were cold and tasty and the service was outstanding. I had a really nice long leisurely lunch and not only was our server on top of things and checking in a few other servers, and the manager made sure to see that we were good to go (and not in an annoying way!)
While my wallet can't handle lunches like this on a regular basis I do enjoy it here and will return!
Hoity toity for sure. It's Cherry Creek - what?
None the less NoRTH is a cool place. I've been here many times for drinks around Happy Hour time and I have to say I like it more on Fridays when the drinks are cheaper and the crowd is more relaxed.
Just what you would expect from a restaurant in Cherry Creek - the ambiance is nice yet casual. A really nice set up allows you the choice of a seat at the bar, a high-top in the bar, a table in the dining room or a table on the patio (these are usually only for 2 people tho). I like having options but my favorite place is at the bar.
I can't say the HH prices are that great - I don't consider an $8 glass of wine a "drink special." But the beer is cheap so I'll go with that. More times than none the bartenders are friendly and down to chat. However, if they get busy they are attentive and get orders out quickly.
Some of the clientele are just what you would expect - Whos from Whoville who expect the world to drop rose petals at their feet. But every now and then some cool peeps hang out here too. Sometimes you gotta roll the dice and see who shows up.
The only meal I've had here is the pizza and it was ok. I would assume the other options are along the same level and probably over priced. If I weren't such a drinker I could go into more detail but who REALLY needs solid foods if you're hanging out in CC?
Easier to get into and get a drink that the Cherry Cricket tho much more expensive. I still say this is a solid place to stop in for a quick drink or six.
I decided to treat my man to a nice dinner out; he and I had been talking about trying NoRTH for some time. Glad we finally stopped in a for a visit.
I made a reservation on Open Table, figuring it was far better to be safe than sorry, and when we called to let the staff know we would be half an hour late, they were kind and accommodating. When we showed up closer to our reserved time than not, we were seated promptly. You don't always get this kind of service, and I am not one to take it for granted.
The food itself was decadent without being overly so. I had the Tagilatelle bolognese and it was fabulous! It was rich, savory and the noodles were so fresh we wondered aloud if they were made in house . My husband had the papparadelle and we swapped dishes several times, discussing whose was best.
We had the Nutella cake for dessert with some salted caramel gelato. O.M.G. Loved the dessert so much that I may have saved the extras for later if there were any! The cake was very rich (think flour less chocolate) and delectable, but I will say that you may be disappointed if you are expecting to be able to detect a strong Nutella flavor.
The decor was sleek and modern; I wouldn't call it incredibly original but it was nice nonetheless. The outdoor seating was also ample, which is nice on balmy summer evenings.
I am looking forward to returning and trying some different dishes. It's likely we will return often as the food is top notch at non-top-shelf prices.
Only tip-parking is cheaper down the way at the garage near Whole Foods and the walk isn't bad if you want to skip valet (though we did use valet and the service was prompt and courteous).
So now that I've got some time (graduated from my masters program) I've decided to write my first Yelp review so here it goes. Â I've been to NoRTH several times and I've always had a pretty consistent experience there so we decided to go there for my lunch after graduation. Â We walked in with a party of six during the Friday lunch rush and they managed to seat us by the time everyone had parked cars at a a nice table right by the opening to the patio. Â The whole restaurant is really nice in the warmer months with its semi-open air feel. Â The service was a bit slow at first (getting drinks and antipasti orders going) but picked up to normal after that.
My wife and I ordered a fried calamari and arugula salad and a Caesar salad to start and then split a strozzapreti dish to split for our main course. Â The Caesar was simple and just fine with a hint of anchovies so I was happy...I like my Caesar salads simple and right. Â The calamari salad was good but I would either add more arugula to make it a true salad or less to make it more of an non-salad dish. Â However, I ate the whole thing so who's complaining. Â The strozzapreti was had a nice cream sauce with some Parmesan mixed in as well as sauteed spinach and pine nuts. Â I love these types of dishes and NoRTH's was great. Â I also like that strozzapreti roughly translates to priest strangler in English.
Add in some pretty decent house pinot grigio with the predictably good food and it was another satisfying trip to NoRTH. Â I'm admittedly VERY picky with my Italian food as my native Italian father-in-law has a restaurant back east that I'm fond of so that is where I set the bar for 5 stars. Â However, NoRTH is an excellent place to grab a really good Italian lunch and is overall a good choice for quality food, service, and atmosphere.
Located right next to the J.W. Marriott in Cherry Creek where I was staying, I decided to walk 30 feet out the front door to to the right and visit NoRTH for dinner. This is a classy spot for lunch or dinner. The evening crowd packs the place quickly and open seating can be hard to find, even at the bar area. The early afternoon time is not quite as packed but still crowded enough so you don't feel like you're sitting alone in a huge dining hall.
On this Thursday evening I sat at the bar with a co-worker and asked for a menu. I received a small menu of appetizers. When I asked for the main menu out came the big one. I mean the real one. So make sure you ask for that so you don't limit yourself to bar snacks. You'd really be missing out.
I went with the Chicken Prosciutto and it was excellent. I really liked the chicken and the way it was spiced. It also came with some decent-sized small potatoes (I say "decent-sized" because they were relatively large...for small potatoes) and spinach cooked to perfection.
As crowded as it gets, the noise level seems under control. We could carry on our conversation just fine. The staff is very friendly and professional. The only drawback I noticed is that the manager walks around and checks on the staff, gives direction, etc. but never addresses any of the customers. At least not while I was there, which was about an hour and a half. Not a huge deal and I never expect it but it's nice if they say hello while they're there. Oh well, maybe she was just busy.
I still like this place a lot and highly recommend it for the food, service, and overall atmosphere. It's a fun spot, too.
This is a crowded hot spot for the after-work Denver crowd. Â The cuisine is mainly Italian, but with the usual American twist. Â It is in the heart of Cherry Creek, across from the mall. Â NoRTH is the sister restaurant to Bloom in Broomfield, which is the primary reason we decided to pay NoRTH a visit.
I was slightly disappointed since Bloom is probably my favorite restaurant in Colorado. Â It is MUCH more crowded (and subsequently noisier), and the people/atmosphere/location are much "trendier". Â If you like trendy, NoRth is probably for you. Â But if you are into a calmer atmosphere (with fewer high muckety muck people), I definitely recommend Bloom as an alternative.
In town for meetings and it was right near the Marriott. Â I dined alone at the bar and it was a pleasant experience. Â Â Casual and pleasantly crowded for a Sunday late afternoon.
I ordered Salmon over squash, onions and spinach and it was perfectly cooked and very tasty. Â Â
The bartender was friendly and engaged in general conversation which made eating alone not at all awkward. Â
Worth a visit if in the area
Savor your taste buddies from 4 items on their menu:
-Grilled Artichoke Hearts
-Braised Beef Short Ribs
-Bread Pudding with Vanilla Ice Cream
-pair everything with wine, your set!
Mmmmmmmmm.... My tummy monster still yearns for seconds or even thirds. You walk into a glass enclosed, modern, loft style, brick walled, sheer curtains, open kitchen, face-to-face bar seating, large drum lighting, huge dining booths and old wooden tables/chairs (reminiscent of elementary school chairs back in the hay day). The atmosphere is quite contemporary. The menu consists of a nevo version of American-Italian. Come for brunch, lunch and dinner! This place is just lovely!!
I have been wanting to try NoRTH for awhile now and I am so glad I did! It was fantastic!
I loved that they offered a glass or glass and a half of wine. They brought me a tiny little cute bowl of olives and then some delish bread and sun-dried tomato butter...whaat!? That's what I said.
I had a 1/2 salad, which I was so thankful again that they offered. I had the chopped...so yummy! Then for dinner I had the pasta with chicken, mushrooms, spinach and pine nuts. It was perfect!
Great place..will for sure return when I am in town!
I am only giving north a 4 out of 5 because: the pathways in between tables wouldn't be large enough for someone handicapable and I think the prices are pretty ridiculous for dinner. Now back to my review...
I went to North for a complimentary lunch. Â The restaurant was very nice, had great lighting and seating. Â The bathrooms were even decorated nicely (and they were clean!). I met with Tyson the general manager, who was very nice.
My coworkers and I started with the zucca chips and the fresh mozzarella and basil pizza. Â The zucca chips were to die for! The filled the potato chip craving but had a lighter texture-so much so that the chips dissolve in your mouth. Â The pizza was also very good. You could tell the restaurant was using a house made sauce.
For our entrees we ordered the strozzapreti, Salmon, tagliatelle, and Italian eggplant pizza. Â The strozzapreti was a nice change from a classic alfredo. Â However, I do wish there was more sauce (without it the dish was pretty bland). Â The Salmon was cooked to a perfect medium rare and came with roasted squash. Â My favorite was the tagliatelle-the red sauce was not too spicy, the short ribs fell apart in my mouth, and the pasta was also house made. Â Unfortunately none us tried the eggplant pizza because we were so full from sharing everything else.
Overall I really enjoyed the restaurant. Â There is booth seating, tables, a patio, a private room in the back, and a lounge. Â The manager was present and the staff new everything on the menu (I don't remember his name but the waiter with the curly brown hair and mutton chops was the best)! Â My review might be a little different than others because my meal was taken care of but I recommend going for lunch when it's not as crowded, and the prices are cheaper.
I have nothing but great things to say about this restaurant. The atmosphere, the service, the food, everything was beyond reproach.
Our server Ben was incredibly knowledgable about everything on the menu and was able to give great recommendations. He was very friendly and completely made our stay that much more enjoyable. The GM, Tyson, even stopped by and said hello when he found out we were visiting from out of town.
From appetizers to entrees, everything we tried was outstanding. I ordered the NY steak, and as full as I was after eating it, I almost ordered another. The caramelized onions and crispy potatoes were great complimentary items to the steak.
For dessert, which was graciously given to us on the house, we had the tiramisu and nutella hazelnut cake. Such rich, tasteful flavors. It became the perfect end to such a great night. If, more so when I come, back to Denver I will definitely be coming back to North.
While I normally don't go to this kind of place, our guests wanted to go, so I went!
Both times we ate here; we were quickly helped up front and told there would be a 30-45 min wait. So again, both times we hit the bar area and had a seat. Were quickly helped with getting some wine opened and a few apps. The second time when we were seated, the lady that served us strangely asked for ID's (there were two women, two men). She only asked for the women's' ID's....hmmm. I happened to be the youngest in the group (age 36, the others age 53, 41 and 40) and I look youngish (hey, what can I say!). While the girls thought it was nice, I still found it strange (note, the others were all from another country, so they found it VERY strange to be asked for ID, especially when all they had was passports and they looked very obviously over 21). Oh well...after that the server seemed to develop and attitude.... her issue I guess.
Anyway, both times we got seated in a little less than 20 minutes, so that was great. Our drinks/apps were taken to our table for us. (for appetizers, try the Trio....yummy...Italian Bread). Both servers were attentive and fun (one guy was from Colorado Springs, had dark glasses...his name escapes me). Well-rehearsed, prompt and attentive.
Food you say? Well, again, this is not my type of place, so I will only say I can totally make everything we had much better AND at home (which we do on a weekly basis), so it is hard to swallow the prices. I am a more "locals" dive type person.
Anywho, the food was good. Hot, well prepared and wonderfully presented. We had nothing "special" ....thus I have not much to say for it. The Salmon and squash pasta was excellent and had great flavors, but maybe needed a little more "greens" on it. The wines were all good, but need a better selection. Nothing stood out (5 bottles). But good pairing with the food.
Would prob not go back, but only because it is not my scene. The place is nice, the servers and manager were very friendly. (Note: did see a lot of cougars). But is that a bad thing???
I'm not quite stylish enough to eat at NoRTH so while it's really a 3.5 kinda place, I'm rounding down instead of up based on my small-minded-mean-spirited-and-petty defensiveness. (Hmmm. just saved myself a Franklin in psycotherapist charges . . .).
OK, where were we. Ah, NoRTH: Had lunch there today. Excellent salad ("Tutta Di Casa"); nice server who offered me a free dessert when she overheard it was my birthday (which I graciously refused). Over-priced wine list with few reasonably priced selections.
Lots of middle-aged women in tight jeans and sparkly fitted cowgirl jackets who I think are patients of Dr. Beau Toxx. And lots of middle aged men with poofy or Caesar(ian) haircuts in suits with no ties who I think also may have visited Doc Toxx a time or two.
In sum, a generally amusing place with good food, that's a little scary.
North has a GREAT happy hour! Â 50% off bottles & glasses of wine, fairly priced cocktails and $4 apps. I don't know how you could pass up $4 apps, they cost less than a fast food value meal and they are WAY more delicous. Â
I've tried all the appetizers - Â the trio of spreads with grilled bread is my favorite with the meatballs coming in second. Â I thought the zucca chips were...weird. Â Salty and fried, but slightly weird. Â The sangria (both red and white) is delicous also...never on special, but $20 for a pitcher really isn't that bad. Â We got about 6 glasses out of one pitcher. Â
The crowd is a great mix of young people and old people who wish they were still young people. You do see the occasional lady on the prowl, but what's the "cougar" equivalent of a man? There seem to be more men than ladies in my opinion. Â Needless to say the people watching is great and the atmosphere is fun.
First off, I'm going to talk about the waitresses.
Mohawks. at least 2 waitresses had mohawk styled hair. Â Not a full on shaved-on-the-side mohawk, but hair pinned and sprayed and styled into a mohawk. Â Theme day?
Next we have Boobs. Â Our waitress was at least a double F, and wearing a low cut top that she spilled out of. Â She rested those babies on the table as she wiped it down for us. Â It was funny to watch my husband straining to look in the opposite direction as she maneuvered around the table. Â I always rib him about looking at boobs (he rarely does, bless his heart. Â I'm a lucky girl) Â But sometimes, when they are RIGHT THERE, up front and center, you can't help but look. Â It was awkward, but funny.
We snacked on roasted asparagus and bruschetta w/ prosciutto and asparagus. We like asparagus.
The bruschetta had MOUNDS of prosciutto. Almost too much. The balance of the salt was heavy and it was a bit awkward to eat. Â That seems to be my general complaint about proscuitto.
The roasted asparagus was served with 2 large shaved slices of Parmesan. Â I would have preferred Parmesean shavings, but then, they didn't ask me.
The composition of the cocktail "Il Bacio" was missing something. The taste was just 2 dimensional, maybe a little sweetness to compliment the raspberry and Belvedere? Â
Again, if they would just consult with me.....afterall, I do have ALL the answers.
Here is the deal. Â We went to this restaurant with 5 people total. Â One of our party ordered the Delmonico (look it up online if you need to) which is by definition a piece of beef from the stomach region (like a ribeye). Â We were given a flank steak ($1.99/lb at King soupers). Â The waitress insisted that they just cook it "Delmonico style" which I would imagine is cooking a flank steak in the same method you would cook a ribeye.... Ridiculous. Â It doesn't end there. Â Ossobuco, defined as the large piece of marrow in the center of the veal shank bone. Â Ossobuco at NoRTH isn't even veal... its beef (Really old veal I suppose). Â This place pretends to be a high end restaurant but you will get much better food/service/what you ordered at Olive Garden, Outback, or any other ~$15-20 a meal restaurant.
All in all, this company lies about what they are serving people and hope that the unsophisticated pallet won't notice the difference, meanwhile people pretend they are having a fine dining experience and ignore the waterstains on the glasses and silverware
I should start by saying I did not eat at North so my review is strictly for the drinks/outdoor patio area.
We had just finished our delicious yet filling lunch at Cherry Cricket across the street on a super-sunny Saturday and were in dire need to kill some serious time. So what does one awkward feeling group of friends do in this type of situation? That's right, we drink and make fun of people walking by so as to deflect the attention from ourselves, and then drink some more!
My buddies and I grabbed 3 prime seats on the side patio outside of the bar area. The sun was shining, the waitress was friendly, the guy who kept shading us with umbrellas was very cute, the people-watching was prime, and the drinks were your standard basic bar fare. My buddies drank beer, you know just to feel all manly amidst the passersby clad in their hiking boots and I opted for some girly yet delicious fruit-infused prosecco.
This is definitely a prime weekend daytime hang but I could totally see it becoming full of people who are trying WAY too hard come nightfall.
I plan to put together a list of all the places in Denver that have awesome public restrooms. Â This will definitely make the list. Â One of the most interesting bathrooms I know of. Â
I have been here a couple of times most recently on 6/21. Â They have a long, narrow patio and the food is good. Â I had the special which was Red Snapper over a risotto with crunchy peas. Â The peas were so crunchy that I thought about saying something to the waitress, but then I realized that she had already mentioned that the peas were extra crunchy on purpose, meaning someone probably went out of their way to make it like that. Â Regardless, what I ordered was amazing. Â The Snapper was seasoned on both sides and everything and the whole thing was actually a light lunch. Â Good deal. Â
They make these pizzas that have extremely thin crust. Â The pepperoni and mushroom pizza was a little greasy but great.
North is the official yuppie-stomping grounds of the cherry creek area. Dont take your 90 year old grandmother or your 3 year old kids there...its just not that kind of place. Its loud, hip, filled with people who will make you feel subconscious about yourself, and is priced accordingly. If you are looking for traditional Italian food, I hear the marinara is delicious at the Olive Garden, this is modern and most likely different then anything you have had before. Although other reviews bash it, the tomato mozzarella salad is one of the best i have had, and has grilled pieces of fresh bread mixed in with all the aged balsamic. The chicken lasagna which isnt lasagna was surprising and amazing, I would highly recommend it. I have been several times and haven't tried a bad thing.
But seriously, its expensive** not overpriced, there is a difference. You are paying for the atmosphere big time. Check it out
I'm never going to North again.
Normally I love every part of going to restaurants: getting waited on, chatting with friendly wait staff, eating interesting food that someone else prepares, and being in a wonderful new place. We chose North during Restaurant Week after e-mails from the restaurant promised gluten free food, a must for me.
What a shock to arrive and find that if I wanted gluten free, I would have to pay an additional fee. No way. I'm never going to North again.
After threatening mutiny, the extra fee was dropped. I was assured the Caprese Salad (Mozzarella, tomato, basil) was gluten free, as was the Tuna. I relaxed. My man relaxed. Theresa suggested a woman's field trip to the bathroom so we might see her new tattoo--a ladybug on her upper thigh. Giggling about the little red bug got us back in a party mood.
We returned to our Caprese. Boring, something I might make at home. Darn it. Why go out if the food isn't interesting? The Tuna entre was equally uninspired. I'm never going to North again.
The kicker was the dessert: a flourless chocolate cake which the waiter refused to check with the kitchen to ensure it was gluten free. He deemed it gluten free, not understanding that wheat free is a different food group, and the cake could still have gluten even if it was free of wheat. Theresa asked him if I might get the dessert with fruit on top, since the sauce would have gluten in it.
"For an additional fee."
I'm never going to North again. Clearly they have no intention of making patrons happy. There were six of us in my group. Each couple doubled the cost of dinner with alcohol, yet I was treated with an aloofness one might save for a party-crasher in blue jeans.
I'm never going to North again.
I did go there months ago with my friend, Mark, and they accidentally put croutons on my salad. The waiter tried to pluck the bread off the dish right at our table with his wormy fingers. Mark clenched his teeth and said something bitter before the waiter agreed to make me a fresh salad. I did have a gluten reaction from that visit. Why?
I've given them two tries. And. I'm very, very clear:
I'm never going to North again.
