Great beer selection, flight of 5 brews for $7, unheard of deal! I had the Buffal chicken sandwhich for lunch, it was good, at $8.99 they toss in a $3. draft of your choice. Can't beat this lunch deal. Annie the barkeep was very sociable and had a decent amount of beer knowledge. I would go back again, with friends.
Review Source:The only reason foe one star is that they had Dogfish Burton Baton on tap. Â Funny, it was brought by mistake, sent back and the waiter returned with it saying the bartender said we could keep it.
Service, food and atmosphere are all failures. 70s disco as dinner music was horrific. 3 other people at the bar and maybe 10 people having dinner. Clearly the locals have stopped coming as it has been this way for the past 2 years or so.
The waiter actually forgot to put one of the meals in to the kitchen and did not realize it until after he brought the other 4 meals.....last meal brought out as we were all finishing. Untrained staff, old and dirty interior, bland food. Waiter was busy trying to be funny and clearly knows nothing about food service. Admitted this is is first job and was working there for 2 weeks...
I hope that people stop going here so they go out of business as Westfield needs a real bar.
This used to be The Jolley Trolley and a Westfield goto location for many years.
This place is sad.....a great candidate for Restaurant Impossible or Bar Rescue!
This place is decent at best. Â The food is edible but nothing really stands out. Â Food and drinks are a little over priced. Â Its always clean. Â The bartenders and staff always seem miserable except for the older, blonde bartender who told me shes been there for like 10 years. Â I liked her and she was nice. Â On weekends, it tries to turn itself into a club and it gets down right confusing. Â This place needs to find its niche/identity. Â It reminds me of a mix of TGIFridays and Applebees.
Review Source:This is a nice after work place place to get a drink and dinner. There is a good happy hour special. Their pretzels are fried!!!!! The southwest spring rolls are great too.
But, this place seems like the much older crowd watering hole.
Its right next to the raritan valley train station.
Lights out! Â I have been disappointed in the Office before, but keep returning. Â They normally have a good beer selection. Â I noticed that more than half of the draft beers were not available tonight, as the draw handles were removed. Â Fortunately, they had Smuttynose, but at $5.99 a short pint, they don't want anyone to be over served. The free baskets of peanuts on the bar ... Â gone. Â The smell of sewer gas was overwhelming and should have forced me to leave immediately, but irrational behavior caused me to remain. The fish and chips were ok, not great, as was the service. Â I have been an Office customer for over 25 years. Â There is nothing short of starvation that would ever bring me back.
Review Source:Like all Office locations it's overpriced with mediocre food, but the ambiance is still "dive bar" from the Trolley days. If only everything else could have been kept from those days. At least the food isn't dreadful, but it tries to be pretentious and that requires a much more modernized space to pull it off. I have no idea what clientele would be attracted to this place. Then they canceled the weekly trivia, so that took out a good portion of their regular weekday crowd. Whose bright idea was that?
P.S. Only order anything during happy hour. When the food comes down to half price it actually is about the right price. Regular prices are obscene for the tiny portions.
Eff it, kids. This place is pretty good. The decor is lacking but I wasn't coming here for the sights. I came here because I was told the food was good. And guess what? I wasn't told wrong.
Off the train was I and into The Office I went. It was an afternoon and they weren't particularly busy at the time. My server gave me her utmost attention and paired with the quality of the food? No question, I have to give this place their dues.
I ordered the firecracker shrimp and their margherita pizza. I also sampled one of their house brews. I was not at all disappointed. The shrimp was cooked perfectly, though not as spicy as I would have liked. The margherita pizza was PERFECT. I'm embarrassed to say it, but this was the first grilled pizza I've had. And it was GOOD.
This joint is worth the visit.
Ok, I've lived in the area for more than 50 years and have been frequenting this place for as long as I can remember. Â Most people in the area still refer to this place as the Jolly Trolley... sadly it is not. Â This place has gone through a few owners and I'd like to say the changes have been good but sadly they have not. Â Over the past few years they have been experimenting with and changing the menu frequently. Â Just when you happen upon something that is good... you come back a month or two later to find that it's gone... WTF? Â The food has really gone down hill. Â The burgers used to be great, the last one I had had bits of hard gristle riddled throughout and was burned to a crisp. The buns have shrunk, the fries which used to be awesome are now lame. Â I was in for lunch not long ago during a weekday... normally the place would be heaving with customers, on this occasion my business associate and I were the among only a few patrons in the establishment. Â Sadly, the other guests were a group of very LOUD and extremely intoxicated elderly people who appeared to have been drinking for quite some time.... it was very off putting. Â The back part of the restaurant is dark and often smells a bit funky.... I don't know but something has gone terribly wrong with this restaurant since it was taken over. Â I wish I could give this place a good review but I can't... I say avoid it, there are far better places to be found in the area.
Review Source:Been here twice and both times it was ok. It's a very mixed crowd, which I definitely enjoy, and very casual. Service was good, and the food was average. The drinks are definitely pricey.
I like that the music isn't super loud, and I'm a fan of free peanuts. It's also close to the train station in case you can't drive home.
The Jolly Trolley is a great place to eat and drink. The only complaint I have is Thursday night karaoke, which hurts my ears quite a bit. If you plan a night out here on a Thursday, just be prepared for some noise. Â :)
Good food, just a bit pricey. Drinks are definitely sold at New York City prices (one Guinness will run you $8). It's not a dive bar, that's for sure. If you know what to expect, it's a real treat!
I came here last night - the place was super crowded. Â It was impossible to get near the bar, so my friends and I wandered towards the back to get a booth, and were pleasantly surprised to find a mini bar set up, where we were able to get beer without having to wait in line. Â Cash only, but a good addition. Â I also like the peanuts they give you. Â It's nothing special though, and I prefer the Office in Cranford.
Review Source:This is, by far, the most popular pub in Westfield in the evenings, although there aren't too many to choose from in this prissy town. They have a good selection of beers on tap, mostly American microbrews, besides the run-of-the-mill major brands.
The decor is charming. The building is attached to the Westfield Fire House, and is over 100 years old. They have preserved the tin ceiling and wainscotting, and the walls are decorated with large reproductions of turn-of-the-century B&W photos.
The young, day-shift server was typically clueless, attempting to seat us directly next to another party, who were the only other customers in the entire restaurant. I told her that I was not interested in hearing their conversation, and chose another table.
The menu has been cut back some since the name change from The Jolly Trolley. The most interesting item on the lunch menu is a chargrilled burger with your choice of toppings. I did say it was pub food, right?
My burger was requested medium and arrived medium-well, but was juicy and tasted good. I Â liked the bun. The fries were undercooked, but still edible. The whole plate was $8.95, so not a bad value. They get you on the drinks, of course.
You can always count on having a good meal at the jolly trolly. The meu is very similar to Charlie Browns but with less slections. The atmoshphere is nice in the place, it feels very cool and there is always a lively crownd there. Its decorated nicely with an old time/nastalgic feel. Service is on the slower end but its not terribly bad. This is a great place to catch a game as the bar is usauly packced for Giants/Jets games and the bar has flat screen tv's.
Review Source:Officially, they are now the Office Bar and Grill, but faithful will continue to call it the Jolly Trolley. I don't know how much has changed over with the name, but I will comment on my Wednesday night experience.
Every Wednesday, they have my favorite or bar events - Bar Trivia. While the website and the flyers say the game starts at 8pm, Trivia REALLY starts at 9pm. Don't bother asking the waitstaff either because many are never really sure whether it is going to happen or not, but every week for the past several months, it has started somewhere around 9. The trivia game itself was about what I have experienced it elsewhere. There were about 10 teams of which there were 2 funny team names (mine being the Neverland Ranch Hands), 3 terrible teams, and 1 team of cheaters (who of course won the trivia round). The prize break down were as follows
1st - $25 gift certificate
2nd - 1 pizza and 1 dozen wings
3rd - 1 dozen wings
The Neverland Ranch Hands took home 3rd place (or 2nd for those who don't consider the cheaters to be winners) which meant that each of the 10 or so members of the team got to enjoy 1.15 wings each. The real prize though was the affordable wednesday drink special. For $2.50 ... or $2.70 with tax... you could get a pint of any beer on tap. I took full advantage and tried 5 new beers that night which surprisingly helped my trivia performance.
There was a lively and mixed crowd without feeling over crowded. It was never too loud to hear other people talk, which is always a definite bonus. Everyone was pretty friendly and several people at the bar that weren't on a team helped out the ranch hands with some tough answers. They have a few TVs around the bar, but they don't play the sound of the game, which may put off some hardcore sports fans. With specials everyday, it's worth giving them a shot.
Also, if you are there Wednesday night, feel free to come over if you hear the Neverland Ranch Hands are in town.
It has a nice neighborhood atmosphere. The crowd can be mixed, as you can pick up conversations and enjoy the community feeling. It can be a fun place to go watch a football came - without it getting too packed. It has decent bar fair. The bartenders are some of the most inattentive and indifferent I have ever seen, with the exception of a couple. They are not bad; they just don't care, and sometimes you have to flag them down for an order, to get something else, to get your check, and to pay your check. If it were for the level of service, I would not go back, but the place has a great neighborhood pub atmosphere, otherwise.
