On the Rocks

This place is no longer open.  They closed about 5 months ago.  

That's too bad since there is now only one bar in Warrenville...I can't believe it since it seems like we all like to have a drink, watch some TV, and relax after work.

If you want a bar where you will get a seat, this is the place.  Plenty of TVs and if you sit on the end near the window, they'll switch the TV to watch whatever you want.  Not much business so you should always be able to get good service.  A decent selection of beer and the specials make the drinks a steal.

I tried to like this place, I really did. Even gave it a second chance, but I'm just not a fan.

I heard they have karaoke on Friday nights, so I went last week to check it out, and brought a group of friends. And their karaoke is really good! But first impression of the physical location, the parking lot was completely ice, although most other public lots had been plowed days before, and therefore clear. An older man wiped out on the sidewalk in front of their door as I was getting out of my car (luckily, I bring my own salt).  The sign by the door says 'DJ Ron Fridays with retro dance music,' so I wasn't sure we were at the right bar. But when we got inside, there was karaoke (which was actually really good, great song selection & sound - I wish I liked the bar more to keep going for karaoke!)

There were 2 girls working behind the bar who were more interested in talking to each other than helping customers. After finally getting a menu, my fiance and I did order some food, which was ok. I had a cheese quesadilla, which had some veggies in it. I liked it. He had an American burger, and described it as, "it's a burger." Our friends ordered mixed drinks, which were awful. The long islands had to be sent back twice (they couldn't get them right). The amaretto stone sour was way too sour, but our friend drank it anyway. She ordered the next one with less sour and was given plain orange juice with ice. And they tried to tell her there was alcohol in it! (Actually, not the last lie we'd be told here!)  The ladies room was disgusting. Only 1 out of 3 stalls was usable.

But having karaoke only 5 min from my apt, I was determined to give it another chance. So we went back last night. There were 2 different girls from the previous week behind the bar, who were a lot more helpful than the previous week, so I was hopeful! I was really hungry, and ordered a basket of fries and asked if they could melt some cheddar on them, with a side of ranch. The bartender said sure, no problem. And my fiance ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich.

When the food came out about half an hour later, I was handed a basket of cold fries with a cup of nacho cheese. She asked if that was what I had wanted, and I apologized and said that no, I'd wanted cheddar. She insisted it was melted shredded cheddar in the cup.

Now, anyone who's ever eaten cheese can tell the difference between actual melted cheddar and nacho cheese. This was nacho cheese.  She was nice about it, and took them back to the kitchen. Another 15min go by, and she comes back empty-handed to say the shredded cheddar they have won't melt. Even in their microwave, it just won't melt.

Seriously?!

We paid for my fiance's sandwich (which was just ok) and our 2 beers, so that I could go home and make my own dinner.  And despite asking for change when paying the bill, we gave up after waiting about 20 minutes for change, and just went home.

If I plan to only drink beer and sing karaoke, I'd go back. But that's the only way.  They get 1 star for good karaoke, and 1 star for the girls last night being more helpful than the girls the previous week.
