By far the best welcoming to Denver ever! I just loved here and was greeted with a beer and a shot! Denver is great!

Best little hooch house in Denver, far as I've found. Never had a bad experience in here. Big tufted leather booths, wood-paneled walls plastered with pictures, ace jukebox that's always singing you stuff like Elvis and Patsy Cline, and a consistently awesome bar staff and clientele. A good folks place. As a million people below me have mentioned, they hand you an on-the-house Alabama Slammer when you walk in. And, if you're of the dame persuasion, they hand you a rose. Now who's gonna argue with that? The owner, Pete, is the kind of guy who walks around and gets to know his patrons, and will even buy you a round from time to time. Character and a certain kind of class--not the fancy kind, but the decent, honest kind--line the walls here. Its "late-'60s-let's-grab-a-cocktail-after-the-steak-dinner-while-we're-still-dressed-up" vibe is real, not kitsch. And, by the way, a killer place to wet your whistle after a sugar steak across the street at Bastien's. May it never change. Go here.

There aren't enough good things to say about this bar. Truly a classic in every way. Definitely get the pizza from Enzo's End next door - they'll bring it right to the bar.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this bar. I have no clue how they make any money, the drinks are so cheap. The friendliest service I've ever encountered. Gotta love a free rose and shot when you arrive. The crowd is low-key and talkative. I make new friends every time I walk in. I'll definitely make this a regular stop every time I'm in Denver.

Review #200! I'm so glad it's for PS Lounge.

Wish I lived in this neighborhood just so I could come here more often. Such a great dive bar, with 70s decor, free shots and roses for the ladies. Minus 1 star for not accepting credit cards.

Rad Whiskey selection from a divey establishment.

Great if I'm in the mood... Unfortunately, after a delayed flight though a blizzard and a cabby who couldn't find the place, so I had to trail break through 2 feet of snow, kinda annoyed me.

Next time I've got time to spare, while in the neighborhood, I'll definitely look this place up, and probably won't be so luke warm on my experience.

I am lovin' on P.S. Lounge.  A few weekends ago, my date and I were enjoying ourselves after a nice meal out and wanted to continue the conversation.  I'd been hesitant to go into P.S. Lounge (despite my INTENSE love of dive bars) because I couldn't feel out if it was a place that old people sit and gripe, or a delightful dive.  Solution: It's a delightful dive.

Upon ordering our first round of drinks, we were immediately also given a free shot of the day - something girly and delectable that I can't remember the name of.  I excused myself to the restroom, and upon my return there was a single stem rose waiting by my drink.  At first, I thought my date had really gone above and beyond in trying to impress me, but when I looked around the room I realized all the ladies had one.  The owner, Pete, had delivered a rose to each woman in the bar during my absence.  How nice!  My date and I ended up striking up a conversation with Pete about the bar and he ordered us more free shots.  As if the cheap price of our drinks wasn't enough incentive to stay and keep drinking!

The only downside is that P.S. Lounge is cash only.  Come prepared!  The nearest ATM is in the sketchy liquor store down the street - not a place I wanted to stop in at 10 at night.

Come drink your top shelf bourbon and scotch here. Best prices in town. Great jukebox, friendly bartenders and all the ladies get a rose! I could do without the baby aspirin shots though. Pete is a real gentleman.

I'm new in town and went out for the first time in Denver last weekend. Went to a few bars and got recommended to P.S. Lounge. Now i am only 22 and its kind of an "oldies" oriented bar (not neccessarily the people but the theme!) but i had a blast! Great music, u get a free shot upon arrival (granite its not very potent but its the gesture that counts!), if ur with a lady friend they are welcomed with a rose! And on top of that the drinks were reasonable priced and pretty damn stiff. But be warned it is cash only which can go fast there between the booze, pool table, and jukebox and there is no ATM so bring enough! I'll be back often P.S. Lounge!!

This place seems to have a lot going for it, but...

Half the time I've been here, it's been unremarkably boring. The other half, the owner is there. Now, the owner is this small, hairy, Greek, little mafioso troll who will spend most of his time scowling at you and hitting on your girlfriend. I have been yelled at by him for talking to black people. Yep. That happened. He also dropped a lot of F-bombs one night when berating me for cursing too much. Irony: the Greeks invented it, and seem to have perfected it.

I have never been physically able to get drunk at the PS Lounge, despite at times drinking fifteen cocktails in a night. Yes, I realize this cash-only bar is just a front for the owner to launder his bookie earnings, but did you really have to water down the booze, too?

If this bar was in the Eurozone, I would totally kick it out, too. Time to start thinking of the Turks a liberators, people.

Whyyyy have I not been here before this last Friday?!?!?!

It was a rain-soaked Friday evening and a friend and myself made our way to PS Lounge as we did some good old Colfax bar hopping.

There was something so inviting about the dark, almost gloomy interior. We were lucky enough to snag a booth as the bartender brought me a rose and free shots for the both of us.

We didn't stay long, but I wish we would have, and I know I will be back. The dive-y-ness was spot on, the drinks were cheap (and some free), and the vibe was great. I can't wait to make my way back here.

My kind of bar, and I can't believe it took me this long to find this place in Denver.
No frills, cash only, good juke box, pool table, and attached to a pizza joint.  The bartender and owner are both super friendly, pour a bunch of free shots.  What's not to like about this place?  One of the best bars in Denver because it doesn't pretend to be what it is not...it's a dive bar.

4.5 stars to be exact. What a great little bar, love the location, love the drinks, and I love the rose I get every time I walk in.

They have great drinks here. Plus, with your first drink you always get a complimentary fruity shot! They don't serve food but will let you order pizza from Enzo's, next door. The pizza is very yummy but not going into their review here. And the drinks are very nicely priced. They always have some liquor on special which makes the drinks even more economic.

The service is great! The bartenders are mostly very friendly and helpful. All the ladies get a complimentary rose when they first walk in, fun! The decor is very old school but interesting. You literally want to go around and see everything that is up. They have an old jukebox and pool tables. Parking is on the street mostly but not too hard to find. We live blocks away and make a stop here a couple of times a month!
Only downside: No cash or ATM, come with the green in your pocket or walk a few blocks to the ATM.

What makes this place great is Pete. He is always friendly and really tries to meet everyone in there. He has had this place for some time and if you want the story, just sit with him at the bar and let him chat you up about who has been there.

If you haven't been and looking for an interesting place to make a stop, make sure to add this to your list!

Being from San Francisco and very used to spending no less than $10 on every drink I consume, imagine how 1% I felt like when I rolled into PS Lounge and made a Hamilton stretch into four, yes... *four* vodka + sodas! That's no typo: a well drink at this lovely Geek man's rathskeller will only ding you $2.50, even at 11:45 on a Friday night. Is this real life?! How does he pay his bills?

Not only is Pete (owner of PS Lounge) running quite the nifty little dive, he's also a ladies man who makes sure that every human stemming from the XX chromosome is handed a fresh cut rose upon entry, and you'll never start your night of drinking without a shot their finest fruity elixir. It's like he's giving away the farm any given night, but in the most charming possible fashion.

I feel like I'm rich in the 3oh!3!

Have cash in your pocket and need a safe place to avoid getting stabbed on east Colfax? This place has you covered. They were cash only when I went which is usually a problem for me but my date had me covered.

Fun staff, jukebox, & pool table. It's on my list of places you should drink on Colfax.

I love the PS Lounge. It's within walking distance from my house, which is wonderful because I never leave here sober. Drink prices are very reasonable. It's like stepping back into the 70s.

Every girl gets a rose when you walk in - I probably have gotten more roses from this bar than I have from dudes.

The owner is great. He's usually around, he's great to talk to, and he gives out tons of shots.

    Only con: Cash only.

Any establishment that resembles the bar in the basement of my grandparents house in KS gets 5 stars in my book!  The retro motif just does it for me and it's a cozy little joint.

The girls and I decided to stop in for a drink before dinner one Friday night.  We bellied up to the bar and were instantly given a fragrant, fresh rose.  The bartender was friendly and occasionally joined our conversation with some hilarious stories...and she sure didn't skimp on the Jameson in my cocktail.  She informed us that Pete, the owner, left some credits on the jukebox, so I scurried on over and played a little Dusty Springfield and Steve Miller Band.  High five on the older tunes, Pete!

Some other patrons had ordered pizza from the adjoining restaurant and it smelled heavenly...and they actually deliver it to your table!  Had we not already made dinner plans, I would have ordered a pie and kicked it at P S a little longer.  That being said, I WILL return for some pizza, good music and interesting stories from cool-bartender-chick!

Wow do I love me some PS Lounge.  Aside from the cheap booze, the cool clientel and the great atmosphere that is PS Lounge you get free shots!!!  How can you not like a place like this.  I love rummaging through the Juke and finding some great old school classics and just people watching.

They have a nice little room for the pool table if your into that and they are attached to the pizza place next to it so that doesn't hurt either.  If anyone is feeling like a divey time and is on that side of the 'fax I definitely recommend hitting PS Lounge up!!

You know those places that make you think...I bet if I had more to drink I would really like this place...that is the PS Lounge for me.  The place is utterly hilarious!  Being a huge fan of dive bars I was immediately drawn to PS and from the shag carpeting to the cash only bar (they do not have an ATM...the closest one is at a dodgy liquor store down the block) I was a fan!

The place has huge booths for big groups and ladies you get a rose and a free house shot with your first drink!  Now that is service!  The night I went was pretty calm but many of my friends got good and silly before walking down to the Rock Bar.  I am quite excited to go back to PS and go back in time for a night!

This place is pretty unique amongst dive bars. The ambiance definitely screams of 1970's lounge and the bartenders will not create a tab so bring plenty of cash.

The owner is a pretty funny Greek dude that kinda dwells in the background of the place and occasionally comes around and talks to you.

They have a great selection of bourbon.

    Great for sittin' and talkin.

Who cares for the LoDo BS when you've got PS?! Seriously, this is the kinda bar I want to hang in.

A large group of us went for happy hour on a Sat. It was dead, I mean dead. For the longest time, we were the only people in the bar, it was like our own private party hosted by none other than Pete! Man, he treated us so good. He knew we were celebrating birthdays. He kept the shots comin, I mean tray after tray after tray full. They were not the "house special" either. He kept giving us beers too! Let's just say this, we all walked outta there quite tipsy! Our tabs were all less than $20...amazing, especially after a solid 3 hours of drinking!

I will be updating this review, but I just had to share what an awesome time we had and how well Pete treated us. He fit right in our group too, conversing with us all as if he had been our friend for years!

What, what, what? How can I not have written a review of PS Lounge? It's one of my favorite divey Denver bars. Wow. I'm shocked at myself! Although it's a kinda long walk from my apartment, it's not too bad if I need a place to chill with my buds, have a beer and some slices from Enzo's, or shoot some pool.

There's a killer jukebox filled with classics, and if Pete is in there, he'll often spot you a few bucks to fill it up. Look for the older gentleman in a track jacket, usually, hanging out at the bar and watching tv or listening to the juke.

When you order, you'll get a complimentary Alabama slammer and if you're a lady, you'll also get a rose. Although this struck me as cheesy at first, the last few times I've been in there I've actually stuck my precious rose in water and hung onto it for a few days. (You can tell your friends that some dashing guy at the bar gave it to you.)

A few things: the bathrooms are, well, frankly, kinda raunchy, and I discovered if you forget your ID (this happened to a friend of mine) you'll be immediately booted to Enzo's. Don't expect to be able to hang out in the pool room. Nice to know they take that id thing seriously!

PS: It's cash only, so stock up before you go. The closest atm's are at Lost Lake Lounge, or the liquor store right next to LLL. Be prepared!

I've made the drive past PS Lounge hundreds of times to frequent the many unoriginal bars of downtown, however, I finally made my bar traveling miles much abbreviated by finally stopping in at this joint.

I met up with a few friends here on a Friday evening and found the interior exactly as I expected.  Dim lighting, jukebox, side room with a pool table, photos of regulars on the walls, and brown leather booths.

Must say that the complimentary shot and the flowers for the ladies is a nice touch.  Needless to say, we were quite certain the complimentary orange shot was absent of alcohol, but hey, it's still a nice gesture.

What really was most appealing was Pete's hospitality.  Whether  he overheard our comments on the liquorless fruit punch shots or whether he is always looking to gratify customers, he offered up a supplemental round of free shots to our table that were indeed infused with a lot of liquor.  Also, his management skills are exceptional as when we had a fifth member of a party arrive at a four person booth, he quickly helped us play booth swap with a single couple occupying a six person booth by the juke box.

My only qualms on this trip to PS Lounge is the fact that they only accepted cash.  At this day in age, people including myself rarely carry cash.  Patrons  without cash have to venture, as we did, down to Goosetown where there exists the closest ATM.  Not sure it's in their best interest to inconvenience customers and send them into the arms of competition.  But maybe the complimentary shot is their way of alluring them back.

Ohhhh was this ever fun.  Walking back into my own little era there, the one I should have been born into but missed by several decades.  The bartender/waitress was utterly lovely, Pete was interesting and mystifying as he sat with us for a while and told us his story, we ate a yummy pizza and got pleasantly schnockered in the rat pack feel of utter diveyness.
There is some odd wackyness with how the money works (well, what I mean is you can't use a credit card) and the food comes from another establishment, and the patrons of each sort of migrate back and forth.  One must have a food license, one must have a liquor license, and ne'er the twain shall meet.  Or, they shall meet, but it requires some fancy footwork and what surely is a procedure frowned upon by licensing committees.  That's Ok.  It was worth it.

My purple rose was perfectly fresh the next day (despite my having forgotten it under the car seat) and for reasons I cannot explain, STILL looks exactly the same in the vase on my nightstand.

The free shots are wonderfully generous and the juke box was perfection.  It's super-dark and tunnely and everything you want in a dive.

Thanks, Pete, for moving to Denver in the 60's and starting this place!

A long time ago, I used to spend a little too much time at the PS Lounge.  It's been a while, but last night brought me back, in full effect.

We were at the Bluebird for De La Soul, which brought us to the PS both before and after.  It's as great as it ever was.  It was a perfect evening of reclaiming old times.

NOTHING has changed in the last decade. Well, there's a new "Walk the Line" poster between the restrooms. Other than that, nothing has changed.

There's still a beautiful bartendress, albeit a different one.  Pete is still quite generous with shots. The vintage photos are still in place. Bourbon cocktails are still ridiculously strong for the price. I still neglected to bring enough cash with me. (No cards accepted here)  The juke is still loaded with some seriously great stuff. We punched in an odd mix of Tom Jones, the Clash and the Cure that seemed absolutely perfect for our booze-infused reminiscing.

The PS Lounge is timeless, and truly one of Denver's best drinking-class bars.  I'm glad to add another five star recommendation to the many already on Yelp.

Trouble. T is for Trouble. P.S. Lounge = Trouble. The Best Kind!
God love this place and Pete and all his fine, sassy staff. All the black velvet art, Greek memorabilia, smoke stained kitsch. This is where old school classiness survives, where the ladies get a rose just for walking in the door and everyone gets a free shot on the house of their signature orange/peachy sampler. You're on your own from here with some stiff cocktails - but bring the cash. No cards at this joint.
Slide in a booth, throw some money in the juke box and soak in the best bar on Colfax. Home sweet home.

Being relatively new to town, I've spent the last couple of months sampling different businesses, hoping to discover which ones will be "mine" so that I may frequent them on a permanent basis. I can't say I've visited enough bars in Denver to have settled on "my" bar, but this is far and away the leading candidate. For sure one I will be coming back to time and again, especially when entertaining out-of-town guests to show off the best of what my city has to offer.

PS is my kind of place. For starters, the location could only be more convenient if it were walking distance from my house. It's on the perfect stretch of East Colfax, close to plenty of restaurants and music venues and less than 10 minutes from any place downtown. PS is just the right size inside, with an adorable bar and several booths for larger parties. The lights are turned down low, there's a jukebox and the decor takes you back to Colfax's golden days as Denver's true neon marathon. That nostalgia alone can make me appreciate its cash-only nature like few other businesses can. Those who have reviewed previously and been here many more times than me can say it better. It's a unique dive that Denver so desperately needs; removed from the crowded and flavorless LoDo scene.

Making the Colfax circuit on any given night, you can catch a show at the Bluebird, stop here for the after-party and cap it off with breakfast at Pete's. But the best thing is, you don't always need to do those other things either in your evening plans. The PS Lounge is good enough to stand on its own.

Do you know those big huge sunglasses in the late '70's/early 80's everyone was wearing?   Now they're in style again.

THAT'S what PS Lounge is.  It reeks (literally an figuratively) of the '70's.  It's ideal for both sexes, because a guy can take his gal in there, and looks good because she gets a rose.  Ladies feel wonderful going out and getting a rose.  Fantastic gimmick, really.  Also, you get a free shot if you can stand.

When Pete's behind the bar, he is the most gregarious business owner that ever lived.  The last time I was there I splurged on my favorite gin, Hendrick's, and tonic.  He gave me one for free.  Just like that.

All the barkeeps pour a great drink, and those shots go down like candy.  It's a mixed crowd for a dive bar, but everyone interacts well and it's one big happy family, whether in a booth, the bar, or the pool table.

Love it!  Love the shots of Alabama Slammers, the roses, and the bartenders!  They were very good at letting us know that happy hour was going to end and even gave us markers for the drinks we bought at happy hour prices but didn't receive until HH was well over!

I thought the decor was amazing but I am in love with the button chairs.  :)

This place smelled like dirty feet.

BUT. They gave me a free rose and (hint to boyfriend) I cant resist the charm of some murdered plant sex organs. The bartender forewarned us that the bar was cash only and we had enough cash to avoid the block-long trek to find an ATM somewhere. We also received a free shot each of something akin to spiked commodity orange juice. It wasn't that good but it was free and I can't complain. Applause for the very friendly attentive bartender! I would definitely hit up this place again, especially on a long weekend bender.

    Awe.

    Some.

(Thanks again, Yelp. Wouldn't have thought to pop my head in if not for your very accurate and thoughtful direction.)

Tricia and I had a few INCREDIBLY reasonably priced cocktails in what has become (after a solitary visit) my favorite Dive Bar in the greater Denver Area. Pete is as cool as "all get out" (as you like to say), the walls are filled with snapshots of happiness from years passed and the customers are as colorful as they should be.

Wood paneling, pizza delivered from next door, $4 Stranahan's Whiskey, a rose from a gentleman for my lovely lady, a jukebox the way one should be, free shots of Alabama Slammers... Wow-ee.

    I love this place.

We went here again for office hours yesterday and I realized I wish I spent more time at this bar. I love the dim interior with the big booths. I love the cheap drinks. I love Pete himself and the fact that he gives ladies roses still.

The jukebox kicks ass. The pool table doesn't have a bad shooting angle. The bartenders are friendly. The drinks are stiff. And for my own P.S. - there is a picture of me somewhere amongst all the other photos hanging on the wall - taken after a long summer night of bike-riding and bar crawling. Don't worry though I'm behaving perfectly acceptable in it. :)

Going to the P.S. Lounge is like bathing in nostalgia...  The jukebox is filled with wonderful tunes from a simpler time, the ladies get flowers and everyone gets a complimentary shot, the bar is cash only, the top of the walls are lined with the coolest vintage football helmets you could imagine, and pictures on the wall evoke thoughts of the Rat Pack and John Wayne.  My grandfather would have frequented this place in his prime had he lived in Denver, that's for sure.

Add the fact that you can order Enzo's End pizza from next door and eat it in your comfortable booth while Elvis looks down on you and you've got a magical evening that doubles as one of my favorite dates with Tiffany.

So today at my place of employment the boss decided it was time to stop the cell cultures and protein experiments and go for a drink. This place is close to said place of employment, so we moseyed on over P's way. Us 6 were the only ones in there at 3:30, and the owner P(ete) served us some standard brew. The boss handed him $40, he gave back a $20 and asked if my boss wanted more change. The drinks for 6 were definitely worth $20 so we were happy to decline.

He then gave us all a free shot of an Alabama Slammer (did I detect tang?). Never had one and was quite good....after about 30 minutes of shootin' the shit with the boss, he came back and gave everyone another free round...?!

    Simply awesome. 5/5 for sure.

    6+ drinks for $8...

Came here based on ya'lls recommendations. Actually someone casually mentioned it in a Tommy's Thai review.

I had no intention of coming here, just wanted to go somewhere new and was driving in the general direction of it so we stopped.

There was some heavy petting going on when we first rolled in. Literally every booth was full of folks necking. Awesome.

The bartender was super friendly and seemlingly bored. In addition to the alabama slammers, she was making up any other shot we wanted on the house. She gave me $2 to pick some jams on the jukebox.

The owner Pete came out and we talked to him a bit then he bought us drinks. That was fun.

    Will return for sure.

The best bar in Denver, hands down... Pete, the owner, is a straight-up good dude.  The bartenders are always friendly, and, in most cases, pretty damn hot, too.  Every lady gets a rose, every patron gets a shot... Fantastic...

The crowd is unpretentious and eclectic... The music from the jukebox is the same... No taps, so beer is either bottle or can (which doesn't hinder the PBR crowd).  The limited wine selection is completely made up for by the fact that he stocks Effen Vodka...

For a fun and fantastic time in the bar with the coolest ambiance in the Bluebird district, hit up the P.S. Lounge...

Hands-down, my favorite bar in Denver.  I used to live 5 blocks away, and I can't tell you how many times I stumbled home from this place (no really, I can't tell you... I have no idea).

You can tell a lot about a bar by it's jukebox.  At the PS, the music on the juke is varied, but it never ever changes.  Just like the PS.  It's the quintessential neighborhood bar, and the patrons are as varied as the people who live around (and above) it.  Neighborhood drunks, pre and post Bluebird showgoers, Colfax freaks, LoDo service industry workers just getting off work, and Colfax pub crawlers deciding to get "adventurous" after one shot too many at the Goosetown.  And you know what?  It all works.

The PS has always been a place that, no matter if it's empty or standing room only, I could go in, grab a spot, and feel comfortable.  It's the type of place that no matter what your scene is, the person sitting next to you is likely to strike up a conversation.  Everyone's welcome here, and a lot of the credit for that goes to the proprietor, Pete (no, not THAT Pete, though he gets that a lot).  Pete is usually floating around, talking to the regulars, and making sure everything is as it should be.  He's a good guy to get to know, as you're likely to get a free round of shots the next time he recognizes you.

And yes, there's the free Alabama Slammers (aka alcoholic Tang) and the roses for the ladies.  It's classy, and a testament to kind of place Pete wants to preserve.  So don't call it a dive, ok?

    Cheers!
